Le Monde Hotel (Edinburgh, UK) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"From the outside, this classic Georgian building, just north of Princes Street Gardens, couldn’t be more obviously Edinburgh. Once inside the rooms, though, it’s easy to get lost; each of Le Monde’s 18 suites is named for one of the world’s great cities, from New York and Dublin to Cairo, Havana, St. Petersburg — and they’re decorated to match, in a style that fairly accurately conjures the atmosphere of each chosen town." - Tablet Hotels

We were only in Edinburgh for one day so wanted a central location within walking distance to all the sites and amenities. Le Monde did not disappoint. A beautiful hotel, excellent service, fantastic rooms, great cocktail lounge, and the best bathroom (tub and shower!). Wish we would have had a few extra nights to enjoy Edinburgh and Le Monde. Highly recommended.

Awesome little hotel. The rooms are themed, we stayed in the Dublin room. It was pretty cool. Enjoyed the breakfast too. The location was great, easy to walk to the sites or to public transit. Id come here again!

Today we had probably the worst service I've ever had in an Edinburgh bar. From table #14 outside, we ordered and paid for 2 drinks using the QR code at 18:00. A waitress came with drinks that weren't for us and then found the correct table. My wife's gin arrived after around 10 minutes. Five minutes later, we asked the waiter about my missing red wine. He asked how it had been ordered and said it would arrive soon. He came back after another few minutes and asked if it had arrived which it hadn't. I was then asked to go inside to show my online receipt to the bar staff to prove I had ordered the missing drink. After waiting another few minutes I was assured it would be delivered to the table, so I sat down again. At 18:30, a full 30 minutes after I had ordered, I went in to ask for a refund. The manager came and processed the refund, but also told me to phone them if I hadn't received the money within 6 business days. I can see several opportunities to improve customer service.

One star to get your attention! We got a couple of drinks from the bar here last weekend. I walked up to the bar, ordered, paid, took the drinks and sat down. £15.39 for two pints, which, being an odd number, got my attention. We queried it with a different waitress, who let us know the price and why we'd been charged the extra - it was a service fee. Why did I get charged a 4% service fee for going and getting and carrying back my own drinks? The only service provided was the job that your staff are (hopefully decently, but I suspect not) paid for.||Look, I live in Edinburgh, and will happily pay £7.40 for a pint; I know i'm in the centre of the city, I know we're sat outside and the sun is shining, I knew they're going to be expensive pints. I couldn't have cared how much they cost. That was my decision.||What I do mind, however, is having a sneaky extra fee added onto my pint without having the option to decline it. If this had been advertised to me by the bartender who charged me, even by a notice next to the card machine, yeah, I probably would have paid it, it was 59p. That would have been fine. It's the deceit in not telling me i'm paying an extra fee that really p*ssed me off. (This is when they'll come back and say 'Look! There is a sign! You were warned!' and it's a tiny sign behind the bar where nobody will see it.)||Provide me with good, or even just mediocre, service, I will tip. Polite chit chat and the option on the card machine to add 5%? I will pay it. Provide nothing more than the most basic service, and deceive me into paying a service charge? Way to alienate a local, guys. ||I don't think i'll be coming back; we had a much nicer time witnessing a fight in the Wetherspoons down the road, where my pint was £3.99.

We were a party of 6 who were celebrating a birthday with afternoon tea. We had to wait approximately 50 minutes from our arrival for our food. That said, the ambiance was lovely and we were given complimentary cocktails to apologise for the wait, our food order was also wrong, but was quickly rectified and our bill had a 10% discount. The service was brilliant, anc although there were issues they were dealt with brilliantly. The food was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for us. I wouldn't hesitate to give a 5 star review and if I visit Edinburgh again I would definitely recommend and rebook.

Perfectly located within walking distance of restaurants and shopping centres. Plenty of taxis outside too. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, special mention to David and Cammy who went out of their way to help make our stay seamless and comfortable. Great hotel, will definitely stay there again when I’m in Edinburgh.

Booked 2 nights for my birthday. Hotel easy to find from Edinburgh station and when we arrived we were upgraded free of charge to the Tokyo suite! Lovely room but no windows that open and ac not very powerful so we did get abit hot but overall perfect! ||Perfect location for everything in the city center! Castle was 10 mins away! And plenty of restaurants nearby! We even ate at at hotel as part of the Edinburgh Eat Out and was a lovely evening! |Highly recommend and will definitely be back

My partner booked us in for the bottomless brunch, the food and drink was plentiful and delicious. The ambience was also great. Cameron who was looking after us was exceptional, we were so well looked after! We had such a great time and will be back again in a heart beat!

Yelp
A great place in new Edinburgh... Right in the main thoroughfare one block off the river. Very quaint and romantic place. The food was delicious and the staff were very attentive... It's a great place for afternoon tea as well. The portions are generous, and the preparation isexceptional

Yelp
Location is very convenient but just a heads up there is a nightclub that happens close by. Weekends are understandable but it's a nightclub that goes down on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9pm to 3am. So we could not sleep being there during our trip. Music from the night club and then party goers outside afterwards so yea prepare yourself or avoid those days. Each room has a theme and is beautifully decorated. We were given Barcelona. Bed is comfortable and there was a towel warmer in the bathroom which was nice. It was very useful for our rainy trip. We were provided nice robes to use also. The employees were very nice and friendly. The elevators are pretty quick here but small. One downfall is there's no ramp so we had to carry our luggage up a short flight of stairs outside. Also too many doors to open throughout the hallways just to get to our rooms. Overall the hotel is in a very convenient location and close to everything.

Yelp
Me and my friend went to try out the lunch moue in Le Monde Restaurant and regrettably the worst restaurant experience in Edinburgh. The choice is limited with zero excitements (as how they describe their dishes). We both ordered chicken and waffle with maple syrup. Each plate came with two pieces of overheated frozen waffles (because they were impossible to cut through) and two small pieces of chicken thighs that must have gone through hell in their back kitchen as they came to be ridiculous dry and tough. This poor qualify has been consistent across both of our orders. I did not enjoy it at all and left more than half on the plate. I trust this stringy chicken stacked on the stone hard waffle and glued by viscous lustrous artificial looking 'maple' syrup has found its way to the bin, where it should be in in the first place in my opinion.

Yelp
We stayed across the road at the Principal on George hotel and discovered this place. We came in early enough to get a seat at the front bar. The amount of people coming through the front doors was crazy. Earlier in the evening it was for a meal and or drink, where later in the evening it was for drinks and night club scene and dancing. The bartenders were very attentive. We ate at the bar and the food tasted great. I had the rump which was ordered medium rare and it came medium rare. The chips and onion rings were tasty. We ended up spending time in the back bar section and we had a blast with the music and people dancing. I would recommend this place for a meal or drinks for anyone up until 9pm. After 9pm, its ore for the younger crowd and if you're in the 18-30 age group you're right at home. Beware, its very popular and after 10pm a line can form to get in.

Yelp
Le Monde's Thursday-Sunday offer, obviously not valid during August, is an absolute cracker. You can get the best room in the place for not much over 100 bucks a night, and considering each and every city-themed room is entirely unique from all the the others, it's up there with amphetamine as an expensive and addictive habit. For your crumpled wad of tenners, you get a spacious room with air-con, a huge TV, rainfall shower, and a fridge stuffed with booze and snacks. You even get a couple of DVDs which are linked to the theme of your room, which is a nice touch. Given we were in Atlantis, the only room modelled on somewhere that doesn't exist, ours were just loosely based on water, drowning or shark attacks, but for example, if you were in the Paris room, you'd likely get feelgood comedy Irreversible among others. If I were to nitpick, I'd point out that the centrepiece fish tank in our room needed a scrub, and that the bar and restaurant, which emits the misguided bling bling attitude of George Street as a whole, isn't as good as the hotel. They did still give us two free Mojitos as part of our stay though, a far cry from the bottled beer or glass of house plonk you'd expect from a free "welcome drink". Overall, it couldn't really have been much better. Very impressive.

Yelp
If you are looking for somewhere a little bit different to stay whilst visiting our beautiful capital city then I can heartily recommend Le Monde. I stayed here last week and was impressed with everything from the immaculate rooms, the phenomenal service, the excellent standard of food and even the toiletries in the bathroom which were from L'Occitane. Le Monde is a beautiful boutique hotel with 18 rooms each based on cities around the world except the one we stayed in which was Atlantis. Our room was amazing and there was even an aquarium with cute fish above the bed and a funky wall with gorgeous turquoise backlighting. The room was peaceful had a huge LCD TV, DVD player and a selection of underwater themed DVDs too. The mini bar was choc-a-bloc, came with complementary still and sparkling water and we scoffed a couple of Mars bars as a midnight snack. The rooms are around the £200 mark but if you stay from Sun-Thur you get them cheap and some start from £99 a night. Other cities include, Rio, Paris, Tokyo, Miami, Los Angeles and London to name a few. Le Monde is very chic and trendy but not as pretentious and cool cat as you might expect. The bar and restaurant attracts all kinds of punters of all ages which is nice to see. We decided to have a late lunch in the Vienna restaurant and they had a weekday early bird deal of £5.95 per course between 5-7. I opted for the bangers and mash which is something I haven't eaten since I was around 5 so it was a nice change. It was delicious and I scoffed it down in record breaking time. The mash was more-ishly cream, the sausages had rosemary inside and everything was drench in a delicious gravy which was the icing on the cake. On arrival we were given free drinks vouchers and strolling up to the bar we expected to get an orange juice so were shocked and delighted when the friendly bartender said we could get mojitos with our vouchers and they were £7 on the menu! My strawberry mojito was amazing and I sipped away in a comfy leather booth in the Paris bar feeling like Lady Muck. I can't big up Le Monde enough, I would recommend it to anyone... I just can't wait for my next trip back, I think this time I'll opt for the Tokyo room.

Yelp
This review is soley on the restaurant & patio tables right along George Street and not the hotel itself as we did not stay there. We found this gem on our last day in Edinburgh, wished we had found it sooner! We had checked out of the Sheraton and decided to walk with our luggage in tow across town to the car rental office @ Picardy Place instead of taking a cab. Not a totally bad experience on a nice day but it would have been helpful if they actually had a car for us at the other end, never mind making a reservation & paying nine months in advance or confirming the reservations a few times in between. I can honestly say it was our only bad experience in Scotland, as luck would have it we bounced back quickly from the rudest service to the friendliest service we had in our whole time in Edinburgh, & that is saying a lot since we found most of the places in Edinburgh very friendly. The service was super, our server was a young Australian lass who along with her husband were working their way around the world and we just happened to find her here. She was very pleasant and we spent a few hours watching all the people going about their business on busy George Street, I cannot tell you what an attitude adjustment the experience was, a few beers didn't hurt either. The food was quite good, we ordered (several times) off their Bar Bites menu and found everything delicious, this is a great place to enjoy a lazy & carefree lunch at.

Yelp
Only popped in for a cocktail whilst wandering about edinburgh on Sunday but liked it! The cocktail menu has a load to choose from and the prices fairly standard for a city centre place. Went for an apple and pear mojito which was yummy - what's not to like? It was sweet and fruity and full of rum ;-) boyfriend went for a dark rum cocktail which I forget the name but he loved it and we had a nice time in relaxed but busy surroundings. Would go back again if looking for a drink in Edinburgh or some food as it looked pretty tasty.

Yelp
IF THERE WAS AN OPTION FOR NO STARS, THAT WOULD BE THE RATING! We booked a room for two nights on March 26-28 2020, that were non-refundable. However, two days before we were supposed to leave on our vacation, the US president banned travel from Europe. I work at a hospital and have had potential exposure to Covid-19. We did not want to cancel our trip that we have been planning for 9 months, but with the ban and potential exposure we thought it was in the best interest of everyone that we don't go. We could not risk getting stuck quarantined in a foreign county and potentially exposing others. Although, this was a very upsetting reality, we really had no choice. This pandemic has caused so many unexpected issues that we all are forced to deal with. Professional sports, performing arts, national events and life as we know it has been cancelled. Most of these events that have been cancelled, have assured refunds to their customers. However, the Le Monde Hotel refuses to give us a refund. We were giving them a two-week notice and explained the situation, but they don't care. I understand in normal situation that there would be no refund, but considering the circumstances, are you kidding. I have another trip booked with Interval International and they are allowing cancellations with no penalties (which of course is not the regular policy), but we have a pandemic happening. However, they understand the problem this virus has caused the entire world and the don't want to screw their customers like the Le Monde Hotel does. The Le Monde Hotel does not care if you put their employees or their customers at risk, they want to keep your money at all cost. When I rebook my trip, I would never stay at this insensitive and money hungry hotel. I would recommend you think of how this hotel does business before you book a room at this hotel. Most companies are trying make a bad situation a little more bearable, but the Le Monde Hotel is making a bad situation worse by keeping the money we spent for our room, when we don't have a choice in this matter. If we continued with our booking we may never get back home, at least for an extended amount of time. We all have jobs to get back to and can't get stuck in a foreign country. We had booked nine hotels on this trip that were non-refundable and we were able to cancel all of them with no penalties, because they understand the degree of this situation and our concerned about their customers and their community. In the US, it is complete chaos, there is no food on the shelves, no toilet paper anywhere and the lines to get into Costco are wrapped completely around the entire building. I would think there would be an exception in this case.

Yelp
There are not many bars/restaurants in Edinburgh that I visit time and time again and never get bored, but Le Monde is definitely one. It is super cool and always busy, which just shows it's popularity. For the suave amongst us, you will know that 'Le Monde' means 'the world' and indeed there are several sections of the bar with different themes, Paris, Milan etc. It is very cool. I can't recommend it highly enough. As if the decor wasn't enough to lure you in, they have a great drinks menu. At the bar, ask for Gregor, he whips up a mean Raspberry Mojito! Furthermore, for a mere £4 you can buy a loyalty card with amazing food and drink discount, you can recoup your £4 within the first round. On a Monday everything is 2 for 1 and they have great offers, sometimes even giving away free food just for being there. I can thoroughly recommend the Thai Curry - yummy yummy yummy. One of the best parts of Le Monde is the fact that they have two female toilets. On a busy Saturday night there is virtually no queue for the loo, and they are very clean. It's the simple things.. I have heard people talk about Le Monde saying they wish they had found it sooner. Well, my friends, you have no excuse. Trust me, it's worth it.

Yelp
Officially, Le Monde calls itself a hotel, but it's also a cocktail bar and restaurant in equal measure. And it's one hell of a cocktail bar at that. The bar/restaurant is spread over two levels, with different areas themed after different cities, each with it's own bar so at busy times it's never too difficult to get served assuming you can't flag a waitress down. My favourite area has to be Paris. It's only open on weekends, but it's worth waiting all week for: think Moulin Rouge-inspired opulent décor, with cosy booths to sit in or marble bars to perch at on the swanky red velvet stools depending on your mood. The bartenders are some of the best-trained I've ever seen in Edinburgh, and even though you'll pay up to £9 for a cocktail it will definitely be worth it. Whoever came up with that done-to-death phrase "you get what you pay for" obviously drank here. Before it's cocktail o'clock though, I'd definitely recommended trying their food menu. The á la carte is fairly pricey, but no more so than any other George Street brasserie, and the quality of service and lovely surroundings definitely make up for it. There's a slight scottish twist to their menu too, so it makes a change from all the blah-blah bar food that you'll always find wherever you go. . The downstairs is more of a chilled out bar, which is open every day. What I love the most though is the huge floor-to-ceiling window that runs the length of the place and has fairy lights hung all across it. When you're nestled in one of the booths by the window, it's dark and cold outside and you've got a nice glass of rosé in front of you watching the snow falling outside, it definitely puts this bar among the best in Edinburgh. I've only stayed in the hotel once. The international cities theme is extended here, with each room styled around a capital city. We had Barcelona, and I have to say it was the most incredible bathroom I think I've ever seen... although the black loo paper did freak me out a bit. I would have said it was impossible to have a themed hotel without it being tacky, but Le Monde somehow manages it. Even though it's right on George Street, we couldn't hear any of the noise outside, and the bed was so comfy I really struggled to make the 11am checkout the next morning!

Yelp
inconsiderate of travelers experiencing COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak health crisis. refusing to refund my advanced booking through Hotels.com while other travel companies have their customers' health in mind by springing into action with flexible cancellation policies.

Yelp
Came for a Christmas Day meal and was very disappointed. Service was slow, everyone around us was served well ahead (waited for full two hours before our main meal was served given that they took pre-orders of meals well in advance). Appetizers were small and tasteless, main was fine. The only thing they did well was decoration of both the tables and meals. When we asked to have the Christmas pudding be packed for take away as we wanted to leave, we were told it's not possible (not sure if they were still cooking it?). They did apologize for the delays and did not charge us for the tea we ordered. But overall, definitely not worth 70 pounds per person...waste of time and money.

Yelp
First time in Edinburgh, and the Le Monde hotel was the most accommodating and comfortable hotel, we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. From the moment we got there the reception was very on top of our stay and making sure everything was up to par. We even made friends with our handy man who came to take a look at the the tub James. He gave us the most incredible recommendations for our last full day of the trip! Sent a complimentary bottle of Prosecco up to our room, and continuously checked in on us to make sure we were having a great time. Even surprised us with two little souvenirs each from Scotland. Thank you James and everyone at the Le Monde for making our stay so memorable! Hope to be back again in he future. Aubry and Rachel

Yelp
Ok for a drink but ild never stay for the food again!! Overpriced, deep fried and bland thats all I can say really!!! Staff are hit ot miss as well as to whether they are any good at cocktails. Arguably had my best and worst mojito experiences there...! Overall skip it and go tp 99 Hannover if you want to be trendy and spend a few coins or All Bar One to keep things cheap and tasty!!

Yelp
I fell through a wormhole in space while sitting on a seat in Le Monde. I arrived at 6pm, met some friends and sat in the bar area near the door. It was a pleasant venue - quiet, with attentive staff, and altogether a bit like meeting in the foyer of a posh hotel. We ate - tasty mussels (though I'd have liked fries with them) and delicious-looking burgers - and drank some wine, and at around 10pm it was time to leave. And somehow, I was in another world. Wrapped up in in conversation, I really hadn't paid much attention to what was happening around us, but we had moved from a quiet hotel foyer to a world of glamour. All the women around us seemed to be wearing more make up than clothes. The men were more covered-up, but still done up to the nines for a Thursday night out. Walking through the fake-tanned flesh to get to the loo and back, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. So I have to give le Monde a middling score - it was a perfectly nice place to meet up for a drink, but it's not somewhere I'd choose to go any later than 8pm, for fear of getting entangled in hair extensions.

Jeena L.

Yelp
The restaurant inside the hotel wasn't very impressionable. The macchiato was ok and the porridge was average and dry. I was only given honey but they did have cinnamon that I could add onto. The service was also lacking especially since we were one of the few guests that came in for breakfast on a weekday morning.

Yelp
The most amazing cocktails ever! Hard to choose which one to have. The food is gorgeous and the service was excellent. A fun place to be and a great night. I would definitely recommend to everyone I know!!

Yelp
Went with my girlfriend during the fringe, expecting the place to be slammed but it was surprisingly quiet which suited us perfectly! We were seated and offered drinks quickly, all service was pretty quick and with a smile (always a bonus!) We decided to share a start to begin with and went with the haggis bonbons. The moment they arrived we instantly regretted our decision to share as there were only 3 bonbons, all smaller than golf balls! Despite the tiny portion size they were delicious and I would definitely recommend. For a main I went for the roasted lamb and my girlfriend went for fish and chips. The lamb was beautiful and cooked to perfection, again lacking slightly in volume but I suppose that's fancy right? On the other hand my girlfriends fish was falling off the plate it was that big! It was that big that she needed a helping hand. Great for me as that filled a gap left by the bonbons and lamb! Overall the meal was really tasted and cooked perfectly BUT the portion sizes were SO small, especially considering the price tag £5.50 for three tiny bonbons seems slightly off but then I suppose it's fancy to have nothing on your plate right? There was a great selection of beers and I really like the design of the place. Only thing I can fault is that I'm a big eater and I feel that they got the line between food quality and portion size slightly off, if my girlfriend had finished all of hers then I would've been starving!

Yelp
We were told we could sit in their heated "terrace", in the street glasshouse rented for Dec. It was blinkin cold! So cold, that i sat in a coat and scarf during lunch. My son ate his dinner with his gloves on. Service was impersonal, taking 35 minutes for food to arrive. My 2 sons ate macaroni cheese, £20 in all, honestly heinz do a better canned version. Dont be fooled by "mozzarella" and "parmesan" in the description, we could'nt see any nor taste any. Even my 12 & 15 year old sons gave up on eating it and they love mac cheese! My £8.50 pastrami and sauerkraut sandwich was nice, but for £8.50 well overpriced. The goats cheese filo main course was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all the average home cook could accomplish more. Le Monde is a jumped up has been, the average restaurant could easily compete. Best to go next door into The Dome or to Jamie Olivers. Good luck Le Monde, we wont be back for another £45 lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids, thouroughly disappointing.

Yelp
I really like Le Monde. A lot of my friends disagree with me but I think it caters for everyone really. From a nice lunch with my mum, drinks after work - or a night out, it's always good fun. I had my birthday there last year and ended up in Shanghai, which was pretty good fun (though I tend to like more rock n roll joints in town) there was a good atmosphere (maybe just a little bit pricey!) I would say the chef at lunch is far better than dinner time, so if you want to try the food, I think it does tend to be better at lunchtime. The staff are all very trendy, sometimes I think a bit 'too' 'trendy' - but they tend to be very pleasant. All in all, a good place to go. What is nice is that they didn't leave it too long to get revamped, unlike some other joints in town, and all the little booth areas are really nice -it's a huge area which they've managed to divide up really professionally.

Yelp
Service is getting better, would nt say the food is though. My first meal here the waiter put a reserved sign with someone else's name on our table during the starter and informed us we had to eat quickly, we were in our starters! Needless to say I wasn't happy. The food was....... alright nothing special to be honest. Went there last night, service has improved but the food is just a standard level. The place looks nice but that's all it's got going for it ( personal view)
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
This place is probably more well known for being a swish bar/restaurant with a nightclub attached but it's actually an amazing boutique hotel. I stayed here a few years ago in their Shanghai suite and loved it! It was really big and amazingly well-themed. The only problem is, they don't let you choose what suite you stay in (they are all so different!) which is quite annoying considering how expensive it is!
google avatar

Yelp
I ended up in Le Monde after our last elite event and to be honest...... I ain't feeling it. Not one bit. As soon as you walk in it is soo ridiculously over the top... with shiney things, sparkly things, fancy things and lots of different shapes and sizes and colours of lights..... but still, if I am honest, looks kinda cheap. They probably have thrown so much money at trying to make it look upmarket that I think they have kinda done the opposite. Right, so I only had like two drinks here, and they were beer. So sadly I cannot comment on how well the cocktails were made or how good the service was cause I did not have either. All I can say is £4 for a Corona...... four whole Squid, yes.... FOUR Spondulicks. Had I not had some wee Card thing of Joe's to get a cheeky wee discount on my drinks I would have been having water. That is just beyond a reasonable, normal, acceptable price. That is just daylight robbery as far as I am concerned. I do not own one of these fancy wee 'student card' things, even though I was actually the only student in our group. But purely on the Corona-Gate Fiasco I doubt I will return.

Yelp
Although I am pretty anti-George St when considering which bar or restaurant to visit of an evening, I don't actually mind Le Monde. This place is modern and the 'style' has been cranked up to ten, everything is sleek and expensive looking; leather seats (and occasionally walls) feature heavily and there are lots of shiny bits (floors, tables, chandeliers, beer pumps etc). I am somehow the owner of a discount card which gives me 2 for 1 on meals and 20% off drinks all day, all week - this is a bloody good deal and I have had quite a few decent and inexpensive lunches here. The menu is quite large and relatively unadventurous, think modern pub classics like burgers, pastas, salads and the obligatory Thai green curry. It's all done quite well though and everything I've tried has been good, if not exactly exciting. I wouldn't come here to pose as quite a lot of the clientele blatantly do, but it's nae bad for a bite to eat in nice surroundings.

Yelp
I love Le Monde, particularly the Paris-inspired upstairs where you can relax on throne-like red velvet chairs and pretend you are Belle in Beauty and the Beast. It is definately a bit pretentious and alot of the people there are there to be seen but as a George Street hotspot this is to be expected and, let's be honest, sometimes enjoyed. It's an excuse to get dressed up, indulge yourself and pretend for a little while that you are fabulous enough to feel at home there. The drinks are expensive but the cocktails are beautiful, authentic and worth every penny. Be prepared to wait for something made so lovingly, it's worth it. My friends and I have probably worked our way through the cocktail list and there don't appear to be any clangers. The bar staff are very knowledgeable aswell so you can let them know what you're into and they'll happily recommend something you'll enjoy.

Yelp
Le Monde certainly looks the part, with its super fashionable interior and expansive premises that seem to go on forever. If I'm to use the word hotspot, which it looks like I'm going to, that would describe Le Monde pretty well, due to its prime, popular position right on George Street. The bars are themed into cities, with Milan, Vienna and Paris rooms making up the main bar. Le Monde has been immaculately designed in every way, so it would be hard not to be impressed by the modern and uber stylish interiors. This is a very good looking place to sit and have a drink, but it's probably just a bit too pristine for me, as I like somewhere I can slouch about a bit more, and I find that the heavy weekend crowds can make the important task of obtaining a drink quite tricky.

Yelp
Le Monde does chic and trendy very well, and is one of the few George Street bars which are worth paying that little bit extra for. When scouting venues for a charity event, Le Monde was on of our options. The staff were incredibly helpful and professional and offered us so much it was hard to turn it down. But being a student event where maximising the profits for charity were key, we ended up going with a cheaper bar. With three bar areas all being ridiculously cool you instantly feel sophisticated in here. The cocktails are made very well, a little expensive but these places are. I haven't yet tried the food but reading the other reviews makes me want to go back for something to eat pronto!

Yelp
Ignoring the odd £4 pint and overpriced cocktail, Le Monde is can risk high prices due of its wealth of quality offerings. Admittedly, it's decor is a direct result of today's plush bar style that seems to be everywhere but nonetheless the level of polish applied to everything certainly works for me. Grand seating and mellow decorations ensure a relaxed place to drink and help prove Le Monde to be a quality option for George St drinking.

Yelp
Stopped in after a long walk around the castle. It was about early dinner time. I had the salmon dish that had light citrus so it was enjoyable and refreshing. Also got dessert pudding and ice cream in a pool of caramel. Sugar high! Nice atmosphere modern decor.

Yelp
Le Monde on George Street is such a lovely place to stop by for a drink or two in the afternoon/evening. The bar is split over two floors into themed areas based around Vienna, Milan and Paris, which are all beautifully decorated. My favourite place to have a drink is at the Paris bar upstairs which is a circular shaped bar. You can either sit in booths around the room, or at on one of the plush bar stools around the bar area. Drinks are expectedly expensive, but they are served by attentive bar staff and the wine is always properly chilled. Food at Le Monde is really just fancy pub grub, so it's not really somewhere I'd choose to eat. Saying that, when i did have food it was very nice and perfectly acceptable. Perhaps a little pricey though, for what it was.

Yelp
This bar is typical of George Street. Very expensive, very busy and ruthlessly trendy. If this is what you're looking for, then Le Monde is one of the better places like this on George Street. They do some good cocktails, not as good as those at Tigerlily, but slightly less extortionate as well. Not really my kind of place, but quite nice if I'm trying to act classy.

Yelp
We go here for breakfast on the occasional Sunday and absolutely love it. Staff, atmosphere and food are all great quality and we are never disappointed. We sit to the front in the big posh chairs in front of the fire and soak it up. Brilliant place

Yelp
We stayed at the Le Monde Hotel - in the Paris Room - in mid-late November 2018. Our room was very pretty, spacious, and had a separate large dressing room & bathroom. The people at the front desk were accommodating and gave us a tour of all the rooms which are all very well designed and themed to different international cities. The hotel restaurant was also good and the service even better. The hotel is located on a very pretty street and is centrally located. Just make sure to ask the front desk when student night is. The students party in the street until after 2am. Enough said.

Yelp
The fanciest bar I've ever been to in Edinburgh! imagine going to here and opium on the same night. Jokes! the cocktail i had blackberry martini was delightful. i tried to make a james bond style joke but the barman didn't seem too bothered hhahahaaa.

Yelp
It is what it is. All my visits to le monde have been on packed Friday evenings, surrounded by post employment drinkers. Fair enough, it's the kind of place that seems to appeal to the suited and moneyed amongst us, though I'm not sure why. There is table service, which is a bonus seeing as the place is always absolutely rammed and full of posers.

Yelp
Excellent cocktails and service. Food very very tasty too. Obviously being on George Street it gets very busy on weekend evenings and noisy too. Enjoyed a great birthday meal and have been several times during the day for snacks and cocktails which have all been lovely. Would love to stay in one of the very swanky rooms one day. Very glitzy but attractive decor throughout. Would reccomend x

Yelp
Lovely, luxury appointed rooms? Check. Right in the middle of the New Town? Check. Located directly above a loud, raucous, obnoxious, loud (did I mention loud?) nightclub that goes until the wee hours of a midweek morning? Alas, check. Protip: If you value sleep, stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Is it a night club? A bar or a restaurant? Actually they are trying to be all 3 at the same time! The place looks big on the outset, gold fish bowl door and entrance lounge/bar. Very 70's blue, green and pink neon lighting, Go further in and you are hit by a monolith black (sparkling marble?) central block of a bar. To the left and right you have seating areas which is meant for dining and drinking. A spiral open staircase (pick neon chase lights adorned) takes you to the restrooms. Which are clean(ish) where music is piped down to the speakers. - actually they play music in all areas. LOUD. In the back is smaller bar with a place that can be cordoned off. I was explained this is used a a VIP area or large group private dining. The latter I had experienced and which was well organised, but not so in execution. They had a lack of waiters, well no actually, there were enough staff serving, but they hadn't allocated not enough serving staff to our group. Food was not delivered to all at the same time and drinks orders kept being messed up. This all caused our meal to last longer and we were still eating when the place turned full on night club (23:00) with gyrating people bobbing in your view when on your coffee and cake. On a different visit the wife and I went for a romantic anniversary meal. Their menu is extensive and a little pricey. I found the waiting staff friendly but difficult to summon. Did I mention the loud music before? Try having a meal for two in the same room were people are shouting drinks orders and are dancing around handbags around you, while in the meanwhile trying to hold a dinner conversation. Fail. It is not a nice experience having to raise your voice and sometimes even shout to the person sitting next to you. As a result most of that meal was spend in silence and using eye contact and hand gestures. An experience? yes. Romantic? no. The last time I visited was with few friends from Italy and Switzerland and we used a booth in the corner, and oh.. what is that white thing on the wall pointing into that booth? yes.. a loudspeaker. We persevered and with a few cocktails and several shots of vodka it was easily overcome - just huddle together and shout like you were giving instruction to a rugby team. Italians are very well adapt to this, they actually enjoyed themselves - so a hit for them and a good choice if you are into this kind of environment and atmosphere. Loud, lively, bubbly and no chance of a conversation (no way you can use a pick-up line under these circumstances) So on all occasions it was the noise that ruined any experience of a nice evening, that... or maybe I am getting too old for this.

Yelp
The first time I ever went to Le Monde, shortly after it opened, we left after 15 minutes of being ignored by all the waiting staff. Those 15 minutes had given us enough time to consider the menu of this french bistro and reject (among other things) the stuffed jalapenos peppers. Visit the Second; we were greeted by a hostess who radioed our arrival up to the restaurant. Climbing the stairs we were meeted and greeted by the manager, escorted to the bar and introduced to the bar manager. All this attention could have gone to a girl's head! But the barman had never heard of a Kir, made it with a new world Sauvignon Blanc and charged us over £7. Reality bit. Fortunately the menu has moved on from American snack food to some damn fine mini haggis and other local delights. Still not French, but delicious nevertheless. The service was attentive, but not overwhelmingly so. All in all it should have been an enjoyable evening.. But the noise! OMG the noise! I know, I know, if your sitting atop a George Street bar on a Friday night there will be music. But does there have to be so much of it so loud? I'm too old? Very probably.

Yelp
The restaurant had a stunning interior and the staff were very friendly. Food came within good time and was very tasty. I think the portions could have been slightly larger however I would definitely recommend Le Monde for a nice meal as a treat. Slightly pricier so you wouldn't go every night of the week! Very stylish and a great night overall. :)

Yelp
The food was cold and overpriced- that's what you get for eating on George st I guess.

Yelp
Per coincidence we checked in at Le Monde in December 2010 after having a spontaneously decisive flight to Edinburgh for the weekend. Nice ,comfortable atmosphere - the small reception seems to be a living room - very kind staff. Every room (categories : 6 superior rooms ,6 executive rooms ,6 junior suites) has an unique style named by several famous cities all over the world. Weve chosen the Atlantis executive - nice small (executive?) room (better than a description is a view to the hotel homepage) . The best thing in this room was the aquarium behind the bed looking into the bathroom-shower ...Sometimes better program than in the flatscreen TV ! The hotel is located directly in Edinburghs club mile, the George street ! Next door : the amazing "The dome" and also "Tiger Lilly" is not far away. The hotel itselfs also contains 4 different bars/restaurants/clubs - choice of drinks is great , food reminds to (better) convenience products... Summary : We have had a great time, but we think 25-30% less of the money we need to pay for the hotel would be a better ratio to the size of "executive" . try it !

Yelp
Le Monde which is themed on three cities, Vienna, Miland and Paris is amazingly done. It is gorgeous, always busy and the food menu, is good although there isn't a huge choice. The fact that there is a club just underneath it makes it even more of a popular spot. Watch out for the glass stairs girls with dresses and short skirts!

Yelp
Le Monde is a fairly new addition to George Street's collection of trendy bars, with the slight change that this is actually a hotel as well. On several floors, the decor is tasteful and the bars light and airy. I've been twice - once on a Saturday for a hen night for a quick drink to one of the upstairs bar, which was busy & I was only in for about 5 minutes so couldn't reach a conclusion about, and the second time was for lunch in the ground floor bar. The service was fast and the staff friendly, and the food arrived quickly and was delicious - the side of fries were especially yummy (not your typical string fries, these were large and plump chips). A great place I'd recommend for a quick lunch (we were in and out in 45 minutes).

Yelp
I've always liked Le Monde although I understand it's not to everyone's taste. It is a restaurant/bar located on George Street next to the Dome. Le Monde's theme is based on different cities around the world and I think they have done a great job with the décor. I've been there for lunch, dinner and just drinks and I always think you get good service, good drinks and decent food. The food isn't fine dining, but its perfectly OK for fancy bar food. If you even want somewhere nice to have a coffee during the afternoons, Le Monde is fine. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Another George street style bar i just found it a tad bitty a bit of France a bit of Germany etc. Does everything competently but nothing well, all things for all people but nothing for the discerning.
