"Why book? Anyone who travels to the Cote d’Azur should stay at least once at Le Negresco, an iconic independent property since 1913. The hotel has welcomed A-listers and cultural elite throughout the past century, from Salvador Dalí to Princess Grace of Monaco to Louis Armstrong and more. Don’t be misled by the stunning Belle Epoque exterior—inside, you’ll find an impressive art collection from a range of eras—Louis XIII to contemporary French. Set the scene When in Nice, there’s no better jumping off point than Le Negresco, perched on the baie des Anges or “Angel Bay,” overlooking the Promenade des Anglais. In fact, 80 percent of the hotel rooms feature views over the shimmering bay. It’s a 10-minute walk to the narrow streets of Old Town. The Matisse Museum, the Chagall Museum, and the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum are all within a two-mile radius. The backstory First opened in 1913 by Romanian hotelier Henri Negresco, the hotel was instantly a destination for European jet setters. After being commandeered into a hospital during World War I, the hotel was purchased in 1957 by Jeanne Augier, who restored the property’s former glory—and then some. Augier created a true “hotel d’art,” adorning the rooms and common spaces with over 6,000 pieces from her personal collection, from Chagalls to Picassos to original portraits of Napoleon III. With soaring ceilings, the entrance and the Royal Salon are sumptuous—there you’ll find a dazzling chandelier of 16,800 Baccarat crystals juxtaposed with a Nouveaux Réaliste Nana Jaune sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle. Augier passed away in 2019 but the hotel continues her artistic legacy. The rooms Each of the 102 rooms and 26 suites has a completely unique design. Themes range from the Marie Antoinette suite, decorated in true Louis XIII fashion with a canopy bed with lush yellow-gold upholstery and Sèvres vases in muted tones (recently, the temporary abode of a certain Jenner sister during Paris Fashion Week), to the Parisienne suite, channeling a modern Riviera jetsetter spirit, with a giant “valise” headboard, clean lines and a monochrome color palette. Guests can request the vibe they’re after. Rooms have Nespresso machines and a selection of teas, and bathrooms are outfitted with products from the French brand Lalique. Sea-facing balconies offer some of the best perspectives for taking in the heart of Nice. Food and drink Dining options include Bar 1913, a historic space with original walnut panelling and Louis XIII portraiture, where diners can share plates and sip cocktails like the Legend royal Negresco, with Lehmann kirsch, raspberry syrup, orange zest, blanc de blanc champagne, and gold flakes (priced at a cool 35 euros). Inspired by a carousel, La Rotonde brasserie is decorated with horse sculptures and copious amount of gold, from the walls to the warm lighting. Dishes are refined and satisfying—a Friday lunch in February included an avocado quinoa salad with paper-thin radishes and chimichurri, roasted scallops with barley risotto and a chilly glass of the house brut champagne. Finally, the Michelin-starred restaurant, Le Chantecler, helmed by Normandy-born Virginie Basselot, offers a gastronomic experience, with dishes like foie gras “en cocotte” with stewed green asparagus and oyster mushrooms, or roasted duck breast in Chartreuse with sweet potato-foie gras purée. The spa Inaugurated in January 2024, N Le Spa is second to only the sea itself when it comes to rejuvenation on the Riviera. It features over 7,500 square feet of soothing space outiffted in Carrara marble, Nero Marquina marble, porcelain stoneware, and oak parquet flooring. The Finnish sauna, exquisite with pink marble backdrop, sits next to a spacious hammam, between which you’ll find a light snowfall to cool the skin after a sweat session. With options like Atlantic Ocean mist, the shower is over-the-top in the best way, and the heated swimming pool is gently illuminated, creating a peaceful lagoon-like vibe. The spa has a full body and facial treatment menu, with products by Toulouse-based Olivier Claire, Vinésime, and more. In the relaxation area, you’ll find gold-leaved baked goods curated by Chef Virginie Basselot. The neighborhood/area Le Negresco overlooks the Promenade des Anglais, a four-mile stretch from the airport to Old Town along the water, lined with hotels and restaurants and the Casino de Nice. It’s the heart of the city, home to cultural events, exhibitions, and the annual Carnival. Nearby, you’ll find the serene Albert I Garden, dating back to 1852, and the Place Masséna, one of the most famed squares on the Cote d’Azur. The serviceLike frocks you’d imagine in a storybook French castle, the staff uniforms hint at the level of service you can expect—very attentive, professional, and (sometimes a rarity in France) smiley. Guest services check in at least daily to ensure that rooms are stocked with everything desired. For families Negresco is a great option for families. Suites are spacious. The private beach club, with a restaurant and sun beds for rental, is just across the street. And the hotel offers art workshops for children ages four to 10. Eco effort Le Negresco has undertaken a concerted effort to become more sustainable. Since 2015, they’ve been certified as an “Ecolabel” hotel, an important environmental certification in Europe. Their efforts include choosing biodegradable, organic products, replacing plastic with plant-based products, and recycling food waste onsite. Accessibility The hotel has an exterior access ramp and two guest rooms to accomodate people with reduced mobility. All of the hotel's retails spaces (such as the Jeanne boutique) are wheelchair accessible. Anything left to mention? It’s remarkable how Le Negresco links the past and the present. Staying there, you feel immersed in the rich cultural history of the French Riviera—with all of the modern amenities you could ask for."

Attending a meeting at this hotel and didn’t know it has been declared a national monument since 1974 and it’s over 100 yrs old. It is like stepping into a museum because the corridors and halls are densely adorned with art works and sculptures, the decor has been painstakingly restored to represent French culture. Best of all is the service which was welcoming from the doorman, reception to the restaurants and bars. For instance Ludivic at the breakfast service was wonderful and even offered to show me around eg Louis IxV portrait in the bar. Steve also was attentive at breakfast service. Everyone would greet you nicely and courteous. My room was on the first floor and close to the streets, but they have installed an electric blind so it’s very quiet and dark at night . The room has been renovated and beautifully decorated, clean. One shortcoming is the lack of USB ports and PowerPoints for recharging phones and things. The bathroom is clean. The bed was very comfortable and bed linen/ duvet were of top grade. There is a mini bar and expeesso machine. Housekeeping is meticulous and they would turn the bed in the evening. The concierge is helpful. The dinner party was very memorable. The location is amazing and ideal for morning runs (around 10km if going from one bed to the other end of Prom Anglaise. I read some negative reviews on Serivce over a year ago, but I think they have improved a lot - I am not white and dress very casually when not working , in sport shoes and T shirts but didn’t feel I was maltreated in any way. There were two Picasso drawings but only one is genuine acc to the staff due to security reasons. Very memorable !

I’ve stayed at some incredible five-star hotels in the past, but nothing compares to Hotel El Negresco. The experience was, by far, the most amazing I've ever had. I can't stop raving about the staff! Juliette and Philippe, the concierges, truly went above and beyond to ensure our stay was impeccable; they are the stars of the show. They arranged a car rental for us and recommended the most incredible places to see. This trip was very important for my family, and Jerome was incredibly attentive from the moment we arrived. He had our keys ready, an umbrella on hand, and ensured that we had everything we needed. The rest of the staff, including Tom and Eric at the front door, were also extremely attentive and welcoming. I can't forget to mention the wonderful ladies and gentlemen at breakfast. The service was top-tier! I’m sure I’m missing a few names, but every single staff member was amazing. If you're looking for an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend Hotel El Negresco!

This hotel is absolutely beautiful, blending historic elegance with quirky contemporary art. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Our room beautifully designed and offered a stunning view. We truly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend.

Located on the Promenade des Anglais and within a short walk to Vieux Nice, Le Negresco is literally filled with museum quality art. The rooms are very comfortable with stunning Mediterranean views. The service is impeccable and the food is excellent. The concierge team was extremely helpful, particularly Juliette and Diane. Housekeeping was excellent without being intrusive. We can’t wait to return.

This is the definition of a 5 star hotel. The staff was perfect. The art and the architecture were unlike any hotel I've experienced. The location in NICE was perfect, absolutely on the beach, the walking street near old town and easy to get out of town for day trips.

I stayed gratis for only one night as a conference moderator but of course had a spectacular and HUGE room for just me. As expected, impeccable concierge service and even doorhop service as well. Immaculate, quiet room and comfortable bed. I appreciated the heavy curtains too. Great WiFi. Very happy with the commitment to the environment with the absence of mini toiletries and instead bigger bottles. Great bathroom lighting. Only slight disappointment was the fitness facility. Stuffy and cramped, but enough equipment for a good workout. The breakfast buffet was also delicious and had very good hot and cold options including for vegetarians.

A wonderful hotel with a unique atmosphere, adorned with art pieces throughout and colors lovingly chosen by its original owner. The rooms offer stunning sea views, though they might feel a bit dated if you're used to more modern hotels in this category. Room was clean, quiet and bed comfortable. What truly sets this place apart is the outstanding staff — genuinely kind, welcoming, and one of the true gems of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety and delicious French pastries to start the day just right.

Google
A very beautiful historic hotel with a truly interesting history. A very fine breakfast where you can eat outside. I would order an omelette or scrambled eggs rather than the eggs benedict which is not perhaps what you might expect when ordering eggs benedict. Very fine linens. A lovely toy waiting for my son in the room. Bravo for that touch. He loves it. The only disappointment was the beach club, and arrangement for towels. I think that the hotel should provide beach towels for guests for free but perhaps that is American of me. In addition, I had not realized that Nice beach/sea has a trash problem with a lot of floating plastics in the water. I had been thinking of having a day at the beach but decided against it for that reason and did a historic tour instead of nice by velotaxi which was a fun activity.

Yelp
Quite possibly the most expensive drink we got during our whole stay, but it was well worth it. We had a lovely last group meal as someone in our party was leaving the following morning to go back home to LA. We still had an additional night in Nice before continuing on to Italy. We ended up walking here after having dinner at the other side of town. First of all, this whole hotel looks majestic from afar. It probably took us a solid 20 mins to get there and for a good portion of it we saw the building from afar at different angles. It looked just as majestic during the day, but more dreamy at night. We were greeted by a nice gentleman out front who led us inside. Someone else seated us. Thank god we dressed up for dinner because it's fancy as hell inside here. We ended up taking a tour of the premises between sips. Make sure you use the WC facilities. Our drinks were easy on the eyes. They certainly pay attention to details. My gold drink was decadent. Every single person working was not only professional, but super personable. We were well taken care of. I'd make it a point to drop in here the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
The Eiffel Tour of Nice! Can you see that azure blue in the photo? Multiply it by 100 and that's what it really looks like. Such a dramatic hotel. The ART WORK rivals any museum. And you live among it. Unique doesn't begin to describe its majesty. Add the luxurious rooms and 5 star dining and service to the mix and this hotel is an absolute must for the discerning traveler. Plan on a beach day as well!

Yelp
This hotel is in Nice, France has a Restaurant and a beach spot associated with this Hotel Le Negresco it was absolutely amazing. I simply cannot express how much we all needed a day to just chill at the beach. After we had already spent a week in Belgium and a day in Monaco we were already exhausted. So luckily when someone asked does anyone want to go to the beach??? we leaped at the chance to relax on the beach oh yasssss beach please!!!! This beach spot belongs to the hotel that is just behind and across from the street is Hotel Le Negresco a beautiful old hotel and crazy expensive $$$$$1400 per night. The views are gorgeous the beach is beautiful and the best of all is we got full on restaurant on the beach, the servers brought us menus so we ordered French Champagne Moet Chandon Ice Imperial, my favorite of all French Champagnes OMG lucky meeeee lol Because we had access to this amazing and beautiful restaurant we could either eat at the open air restaurant where they had tables with umbrellas or we could order food from the restaurant and they will bring it to you on the beach so you can enjoy your food and the gorgeous views ah excellent! So we had a beautiful salad with chicken and frites with mayonnaise as the French do lol And of course we greatly enjoyed our delicious lunch and French Champagne while loving that spectacular view. They have big white chaise lounges and they give you towels and each with your own umbrellas, that these darling boys would adjust for us as the sun moved, I love love loved it all. La Plage the Restaurant was delicious and for me it was Champagne bliss! This is not free obviously you're paying for the food and bubbly considering it came to a little over $350 per couple for Lunch and a bottle of French Champagne and personal servers so we were there the entire day around 5 hours of heaven on a beach in Nice France. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, I very highly highly recommend this place and you will not be disappointed I can assure you! À votre santé means to your health in français. Cheers ALL see you on Yelp Review 315 -06/01/23

Yelp
As a loyal and repeat client, I was treated to the junior suite la parisienne. The decoration was on the theme of coco chanel. It has been renovated with exquisite taste and with a touch of luxury without being ostentatious. The double sink bathroom was tastefully decorated and very spacious. There was a good Malongo coffee machine and the rest of the room equally comfortable and classy. Needless to say, the view of the Mediterranean was stunning. The room service was pristine ! For me, the best hotel in Nice by far ! I would stay there again in a heartbeat specially for the service , the room and the location!!

Yelp
What a place. It's like staying in a super luxe museum. The service, the room, the food and all of the other amenities the Le Negresco has to offer is just so sumptuous. Our king size bed was just so divine. The linens were extra smooth and super soft to lull you to the deepest slumber. And the robes and slippers that were provided were extra soft and toasty. And most importantly the location cant be beat. It's smack down in the middle of everything that Nice has to offer. The private beach was just across the hotel. If I had tons and tons of money I could easily live here year round. The hotel itself should be a destination. There was one day in our almost weeklong stay where we could really not venture outside to explore since the weather was just downright nasty. So hubby and I explored the hotel from top to bottom. The collection of artwork here is just incredible. Although, it is very eclectic, there is a theme to every floor or so. As an example, the 2nd floor we thought was modern art but it was so much more. the landing had modern art pieces, but half the floor had African themed pieces while the other half of the floor included drawings of dresses and such from some of the major French fashion places. If you are ever in Nice, make sure to book your stay at Le Negresco.

Ali L.

Yelp
Amazing service! Treated like literally royalty. The staff was kind, accommodating and really made our stay special. Remi, in particular has been a gem!!! The beach is amazing, close to restaurants and just an amazing experience. Wish I could give it 10 stars! We had a terrible experience at the cap d'antigue beach hotel. And had to quickly arrange a new place to stay due to being treated like trash, but the staff at the negresco quickly set up a room and seamlessly created a magical experience in just 30 minutes as a heads up! Highlyyyyyy recommend the negresco!

Marla F.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful hotel bar. What classic regal decor and top tier service, food and drinks. Stopped in here with 2 friends while in Nice for the day and so glad we did. The champagne cocktail I had was blissful! Don't bat an eye at the prices though, you get what you pay for. Cocktails will run you approx ~30 euro and the exquisite food menu offers a prix fixe or regular menu items for around ~85 euro.

Yelp
I was super exited to have lunch her on the patio! When I walked in with my family, we wanted to have a small look around because it is beautiful...when we walked a couple feet out of the waiting area we noticed someone following us. When we said hello they asked immediately why we were there- like we were criminals. I told him we wanted to have a lunch on the patio. He rudely responded with I don't know if there will be room for all of you on the patio...talk to the concierge. So we walked over and Asked, he quickly called the restaurant and made room for us (they were very nice). Fast forward to the lunch we where having a nice time and the waiters where excellent. It was until we noticed my son and his friend got the same dish but one of the had vegetables in their pasta and the friend got none. We asked the hotel about why one was missing vegetables and the other has a lot!? When we asked the server she quickly got the manager but the way he explained it made it seem unsanitary and made him look ridiculous! The manager said "we make the past the "Italian way", where they make a big batch of past and some people get vegetables and others get none...we scoop it out of a pot. Yet the sauce was on the bottom of the plate and the shrimp was on the top.. after being there for 3 hours we decided no desert and we need are bill. When we asked if we wanted desert we politely declined and asked for are bill.. again. It was hot and we just wanted to go, they brought out 6 desert we did not want but not just that they didn't listen! We are a couple bites from all the desserts to be polite but we had to ask for the bill again and after a ten minute wait we got it and left.

Yelp
I tried to visit the Bar at the Negresco. The experience was bizarre. They had a sign out front about The Bar. They have window decals about it. I called the hotel to ask about availability and they said that the bar was open and that reservations weren't required or accepted. So, I went there on the last night of my honeymoon thinking it would be a picturesque place for drinks before dinner, walked into the hotel and through the doors to the wide open bar area, and there wasn't a soul there. Not even a bartender. Then, as we were walking out to ask how one can get a drink in their establishment, a hotel employee rushed up to tell us, in polite terms but a little condescendingly, that the bar (the one described on their website and on their window decals) wasn't open in the summer (this, btw, was mid-August, easily late enough to correct the website, signs, window decals, and/or information from their receptionist) because it was "on the other side" of the hotel, in a venue with a different name, different menu, different decor, etc. (i.e., a different place). And that, while when we'd called, we were told that they didn't take and we wouldn't need reservations, it was full at a slow time on a Monday. Then he shuffled us out of the hotel. We later walked by the area he was talking about, and it was half empty. We got cheaper but perfect drinks in a more picturesque establishment on the beach instead, so it worked out fine for us. But, it's baffling how this place stays in business under current management. Their website was wrong. The sign out front was wrong. They literally had window decals up that were wrong. And their receptionist repeated the incorrect information they provided. Then, when people who trusted that they were an at least marginally competent business who wouldn't advertise incorrectly through multiple channels showed up, pretty likely looking to spend hundreds of dollars on a few drinks, they didn't even try to find two chairs for us in the half empty space where they /were/ serving drinks. The current owners/management got a pretty building with some history, but they're clearly not up to running a contemporary business. It worked out fine for me... I got what I needed from a more competent business nearby and will go home with a funny story to share with friends in their industry to laugh at their expense. But, I'd recommend against relying on them to provide an acceptable level of service, even when they explicitly advertise it. There are too many good bars, hotels, and restaurants in Nice that work hard to get things right for it to be worthwhile to waste your time on these clowns play acting a pastiche of silly anti-French stereotypes of alleged French snootiness.

Karen H.

Yelp
Came just for drinks, but thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and my drink was delicious. The decor is at once old world and a little eccentric. Great people watching.

Camila M.

Yelp
SUMMARY: If you would like a hotel that tolerates smoking that penetrates your room and makes you sick, the constant smell of mold, stained carpets, non-working air-conditioning, only one elevator that constantly breaks down, and a dismissive staff that will offer you a worse room than you paid for if you dare complain about your horrible experience then look no further than Le Negresco. For anyone who doesn't know true luxury and has seriously low standards, this is the place to stay. Full review available on trip advisor (character limit won't allow the full story here).

Mimi D.

Yelp
Have to upgrade my previous review this morning's cappuccino was well staffed and came with a mini cinnamon bun. Now for the brand new beach club!!! My family has been coming to the south of France (nice, cap ferrat, st tropez) for 20 years and I can't believe Nice finally has a luxury beach club that rivals all others. For incredible food and great ambience spend your days here - we had the catch of the day which was carved at the table and it's not any different than the same dish at cabane bambou/ club 55. Love it! Service impeccable. Thnk goodness Negresco finally has a place on the beach xoxo

Ricky D.

Yelp
I had a great few days staying at Le Negresco and though I've stayed here before I always find something new and interesting to see in the hotel. If you like historic hotels than Le Negresco is for you and its architectural richness as well as location, make it a perfect choice. The hotel is certainly quirky and more idiosyncratic than any other hotel I've have visited. Le Negresco combines turn of the 20th century design with some disco-era furnishings and other time periods with an incongruent and interesting result. We had a spacious suite with a balcony that had a beautiful view of the sea and The Promenade des Anglais. The bed was comfortable and the linens were excellent and the period room furnishings were unique. Le Negresco will enhance and even define any vacation to Nice and once again I enjoyed my stay.

Tracy M.

Yelp
The El Negresco is royal. Live music starts at 10pm. The staff is exceptional! J'dore. So many art pieces you can't see them all. What a great experience.

Gilli G.

Yelp
I think this hotel survives mostly because of the legend built around it, almost like people are trained to like it before they experience it. Once you pass the reception and the illusion of high class that you get at the entrance, you find out that the hotel is just old, rooms show this and you can smell it too, you can even smell if someone has smoked is like the walls keep the smell in them, all and all this hotel is way overrated in my opinion, and expensive for what it really offers. I think most of the reviews here are high because people had so much expectation for this place and once here they did not want to ruin that image in their head and simply started lying to oneself.

Kara R.

Yelp
How on earth is this hotel rated highly on trip advisor??!! I will never trust TripAdvisor again! We stayed here last weekend for two nights, I could have cried. It was the most run down dated shit show I've ever slept in. The moment we walked into the lobby, I knew we were going to regret it but unfortunately we had already rebooked and paid. And it was over $600 a night for a basic room! They will not give you more than one key because the keys are archaic and obviously they will not invest in updated system. This makes for inconvenience on a level that is parallel to a family of drivers sharing one car. Our room had an ocean view but it was difficult to look pass our hideous room. Our room resembled an eight year old girls bedroom from 1940. Our bathroom was down right gross. When you showered, their was no curtain or glass divider to catch all the water. After showering, there was so much water on the floor, I imagine the water was dripping onto the ceiling of the guest beneath us. I can only imagine the black mold lurking in the walls of this relic. The tub and toilet looked like they were casted out of elmers glue and glitter. Good luck charging any of your devices because their are no outlets? This was a ton of fun, especially for my husband who had to do some work while we were there. The internet was slower than a sloth and we constantly lost connection. There is a ton of art all mashed together around this hotel with no rhyme or reason. The breakfast room was like sitting inside a broken haunted carousel. It was a creep show with eggs thrown into it. The staff is top notch but in no way make up for this way overpriced one star motel.

Katy S.

Yelp
This is the most beautiful hotel I have ever seen. We stopped here for tea in the drawing room and it was divine! Everywhere you look is a work of art. Even if you don't spend the night please have a drink, order some tea and take a walk around inside. It's breathtaking.

Art C.

Yelp
Go for the truly excellent service, over-the-top architecture, and tasty Royal Negresco cocktail. But know you're going to pay for it (30 euro cocktail). Is it worth it? Well it was really hot outside the day we went and their air-con worked really well, so... no, not worth it otherwise. But something to see nonetheless.

Keeley G.

Yelp
My absolute favorite part about Nice!!! Please read up on the history of the Negresco, it's owner, and all of the beautiful art inside it's it's walls before or after staying here because It's absolutely fascinating! The hotel is a museum in itself! We stayed here for 4 nights in August and had the most wonderful experience. It is pricey but definitely worth it. Not because the service is necessarily outstanding or the staff is overly endearing but the hotel really is one of a kind. On the day we arrived it happened to be a national holiday in Nice, we were informed there'd be fireworks at 10pm, and that we should arrive at the outdoor terrace by 7pm to get a good spot. We arrived at 7 but the place never really filled up, I'm assuming because of the menu prices. But we didn't mind- we were on vacation! Plus we were starving and the food was delicious. They have a dj and live music on certain nights. One evening we got a drink and wandered the halls looking at the artwork for hours. We explored all 5 floors! There's an entire wing basically devoted to Dhali. And the woman who owns the Negresco is absolutely fascinating, she's hosted some of the worlds most famous people, and has even been consulted by a Shah of Iran. We did not have the pleasure of meeting her unfortunately. The rooms all seem to have a different then. Our room had quite the color scheme- bubblegum gum pink and lime green, I loved it! The headboard had to be made for a princess. Make sure to check out the authentic outfits the bellhops wear. And the bar to the right as you enter the hotel was a wonderful place to relax, it had such an old school almost maritime feel. If I ever make it back to Nice I will only be staying at the Negresco

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Expensive, but worth it. Beautiful rooms, wonderful people, and great service! This is where you stay when you want to treat yourself and/or your family in Nice.

Mark S.

Yelp
A gaudy trashpit. Disgustingly pretentious and far past its prime. The tacky design would be laughable if it weren't just sad. There are far better hotels in Nice. Don't be fooled by the Negresco's history. It's an unpleasant, nasty place you should avoid at all costs.

Peter K.

Yelp
Le Negresco is an odd eclectic, but beautiful hotel. I was here in September of 2004 for a 24-hour business trip. In fact, my colleagues and I flew to Nice and back to NYC with the same Delta Airlines crew. Negresco is uniquely decorated, seemingly in the style of Nice's heyday. Eclectic antiques line the hallways and furnish the rooms. My small suite faced the internal shaftway but was very large for a hotel room in France, where hotel rooms are known for being miniscule. The location is breathtaking, the Promenade des Anglais is perhaps the center of Nice and walking anywhere is a breeze. One of these days, I will have to visit off-season to get a break on an upgrade.

Tawnie G.

Yelp
Tourists: Worth a trip to Hotel Negresco, just because it is So Beautiful!!! Ask to be sat on the outdoor terrace for the best view! Quite pricey, but possible to have free refills on the tea!

Bunny G.

Yelp
Driving down the French Riviera-which is a spectacular coastline, on our way to our hotel, I was captivated by this stunning charming hotel and I knew I would be making some reservations for dinner since sadly I was not a guest. I love love love to learn about historic places when I travel and Hotel Negresco, which I found out has earned its place as a National Historic Monument had plenty of it. We came here for Easter and had a fabulous dinner at the restaurant. Gorgeous French furnishings and a Baccaret chandelier with over 16,000 crystals-only two like it in the world! Dinner was five-star! They must have brought out like 12-16 courses, it was amazing. Service impeccable. We topped off our night at Le Relais where we had some Port and more champagne. As I was making my way down the stairs to the gorgeous English style lounge, I saw pictures of Sophia Loren and when I learned how many other legends visited this hotel I was star-struck. The list is really a Who's Who, starting with Queen Elizabeth, Princess Grace of Monaco, President Truman, Sir Winston Churchill, Nicholas Sarkozy, and the list of celebrities is another one that will leave you speechless. The Beatles, Alfred Hitchcock, Louis Armstrong, Elizabeth Taylor, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Gary Cooper, James Dean, Michael Jackson, Henri Matisse, Orson Welles, Clint Eastwood and Bill Gates...just to name a few! My vacation was fabulous but I will forever treasure the night we had dinner at Hotel Negresco. I also learned that the hotel was once a hospital for wounded soldiers! The dome inside was designed by none other than Gustave Eiffel and the hotel was named after its founder Henry Negresco. I learn so much when I travel! Add this place to your bucket list! Au Revoir!

Yelp
My husband and I just returned from a 10 day trip in Nice, France. We had a wonderful time except when we walked into this hotel to visit and sit for a cocktail. We came in from the rain and although we were not staying there we thought we would have a cocktail and take a look at the art. We were completely turned away by the man at the front desk entrance. He told us there was no availability at the bar and crossed his arms in an action to say no. It was the most unwelcoming and pretentious action I have ever experienced in all my years of travel. We believe he based his action because of the way we looked. Whatever the reason I would NEVER stay at this hotel.

Yelp
Looks great from the outside and lobby area very nice. Rooms on other hand in need of major refresh. Poorly equipped bathrooms, limited seating in room, many layers of paint, very slow WiFi. Room size was good and they were clean. The 3 star reviews listed here are very accurate. Ignore the 5 star reviews - probably written by guests who frequent Motel 6 or Comfort Suites. Bottom line: Probably could do better elsewhere for same or less.

Yelp
This hotel is known for its grandeur, but that was 100 something years ago. Now it's just something out of American Horror Story hotel edition. The hotel is very old, run down, and smells like the the 1920s has risen from its grave and has thrown up all over the place. Tacky and chaotic to the point of being tasteless are my choice of words to describe this hotel. The whole decoration is a mess of classical paintings, vintage art nouveau, and something out of pedophiles' creepy fetishes nightmare. Each room has different themes. And let me tell you, it smells. Everything smells. The sea view will not help you if your room smells like a creepy hoarder grandma. Or a badly run museum. It's just sad to see some wonderful piece of art being butchered by being hung on a pink wall in a rainbow carpeted hallway on a Chinese themed floor. Think of a really bad acid trip with a splash of clockwork orange. The bathroom smells. There are cracks on the wall. There are mould and stains. The bathtub angle makes it difficult to get in and out because it doesn't have a proper railing that you can hold onto. Also there's no AC controller so you kind of have to sleep in a freezing cold room. The service is poor at best. The staff were not accommodating whatsoever since the moment I walked in. The valet guy dismissed me when I asked him politely if I could valet my car. He didn't even help calling another person over. We just had to get the attention of another guy by ourselves. When we check in, our rooms weren't ready. We said it's fine but if they don't mind call us to let us know if the room is ready that'd be great. They said yes of course. But did we get any phonecalls? Nope. Nada. None. Also, they almost cheated us by charging breakfast for five people for two days even though two of us went down to breakfast. They insisted that the manager 'confirmed' that all of us were there. We had to argue with them. Because I didn't even sleep at the hotel for one of the nights. Yes, it was bad enough I went to sleep at my friend's. THEY GIVE YOU ONE ROOMKEY HERE. When we requested another one, they said no because it's 'the hotel policy.' However, you need this punch out, old school room key to be able to operate the light in your room. So if one person decides to go out, the other person has to either stay up to open the door or stay in the dark. Unless that's the vibe you're going for. Also, you pay €600 a night to have a nightmare. For the same price, you could secure yourself in a beautiful new hotel secluded away in Cap Ferrat or Cannes rather than a this. JUST DON'T. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED.

Yelp
Hotel le Nevreaco is a beautiful hotel in Nice, very posh with everything you could want in a luxury hotel. If your in Nice I would highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp
We stumbled on this really quirky brasserie after trying to find somewhere to eat in Nice that wouldn't bankrupt us, or having a dodgy takeaway. This was a god send. Granted it won't be everyones taste but the restaurant is themed on a fairground carousel with old horses still on their podiums. Some of the tables are situated in booths which again is like being in a mirrored walzter. There is a dodgy dummy in the middlle of the restaurant which plays an accordian type thing every half hour. The food is great and is reasonbly priced with club sandwiches, steaks and fish dishes, the deserts are amazing with the likes of baked alaska. If I ever return here I will be back, a sureal kitch kinda place. The Negresco hotel is worth popping your head into, trully amazing place well worth a visit.

Yelp
NOT FOR BUSINESS TRAVEL! Beautiful architecture and well located. Rooms good size but definitely need new carpeting (a little crunchy). Just a bit of a musty odor. Problem: no irons allowed in rooms (safety) so you are forced to use their laundry services. Feels like clothing hostage - i need to go to work and wrinkled clothing from international travel is not advised. Could you at least offer 2-3 items cleaned at no charge???? Extortion is usually a crime. However, staff is very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Annually, for almost a decade, we have stayed at the Negresco. as a matter of fact, We look forward to our visit after leaving the Ritz in Madrid each year. Up to this year there has not been any fall off, but this year was truly a heartbreaking disappointment. We have always looked forward to the omnipresent original art, the unique, beautiful rooms - the Blue Room, the Red Room, the Napoleon Suite, the Dali floor - and the friendly, personal service, but this year was sadly different. This year, we were given a sea-view mini-suite with a great bathroom so, at the on-set, we were pleased, but as we settled in, we began to hear VERY loud hammering and drilling. We called the front desk and were informed that 40 or so rooms were under construction, and although the construction would not go on over the weekend, it would resume Monday morning. (We were checking in on Friday for five days.) My wife went downstairs to discuss the matter because we had a non-refundable arrangement. The desk clerk was stubbornly unhelpful, but the general manager offered other rooms even at a lower rate, but these were rooms we had lived in on previous visits. One of the beauties of this place is to experience the uniqueness of each visit, and we could not be assured that we would not still hear the construction, so, after considerable haggling, we finally negotiated to stay two nights and move Sunday before the constructions resumed. That seemed fair, but as soon as my wife got back to our room, the now somewhat mean-spirited desk clerk called and said that although Sunday and Monday would be forgiven Tuesday would still have to be paid. My wife immediately asked for the manager again. Adding more insult, while we sitting in the room waiting for the manager to call us back, my wife noticed a roach crawling up my leg. Feh! The manager finally called back and forgave the Tuesday charge, but the issue of the roach was also on the table. To their credit, Management did send up a bottle of gratis champagne, but we were at that point too disappointed for it to make a real difference. Importantly, it seems that Madame Augier, the live-in owner and long-time friend of Dali himself, (See http://frankpleasants.blogspot.fr/2013/05/the-decline-of-madame-augier.html) is very old (90+) and, and according to staff, very weak. The hotel is rapidly being transformed from her personal museum/hotel into a profit-centered commodity. For example, the historical Versailles Room is just a remnant of its original self. Its Louis XIV furniture has been replaced with conical plastic chairs. Horrible! Residents have to satisfied with a photo of how splendid and awe-inspiring the space used to be. It seems like it will not be long before the gigantic original oil of Louis XIV will be replaced with a velvet Elvis or something else as gauche. The weird unique sculptures in the gigantic, beautiful rotunda have been moved and replaced with lines of chairs and a temporary stage for events. The old long-time staff - doormen, bellmen, desk clerks, waiters - has been replaced to a person by very young, beautiful/handsome 20-somethings. Their attitudes are courteous but minimally sincere, thin and tenuous. The management and staff seem to be on edge waiting for Madam Augier to pass away so that they can begin full throttle to change this wonderful art and living phenomenon on the Cote D'Azur into a tourist drawing, money-making enterprise. Our two nights there this time were very bitter sweet. We moved to the Meridien up the street to a mini-suite with the panoramic view of a lifetime, and as we looked back at the brightly lit cupola of the Negresco, we were drawn to it by our years of fond memories wishing to feel again how we felt living there in the past. But my wife says that it like our years in Havana: When you go back, your heart sinks with disappointment of something irreparably changed and gone forever. Capitalism is a mickey-fickey and change can be so painful sometimes. In the case of the Negresco, a true institution is disappearing before our eyes. Madam Augier will be spinning in her grave when she does pass, but bless her soul for the many years she ruled over a true masterpiece of art and experience in the south of France.

Yelp
I was nervous when I read, prior to checking-in here recently, that this hotel has been owned by the same family for more than half a century. I suspected (rightly, it turns out) that that meant little to no reinvestment in the property. However, it's consistently listed as THE place to stay in Nice, has a five-star rating and is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World... What could be wrong with it?? Well, it turns out, EVERYTHING! This is one of those baffling experiences where it seems that all the information out there on this place is extremely misleading or flat-out wrong!! How can anybody give this a five-star rating? Honestly, I've stayed in better Best Western motels! I stayed in a two-room suite with full view of the sea and promenade, one of the nicest rooms in the hotel. The place looked like the setting of a horror film - stained fabric walls, dirty carpet, old velvet furniture with spindles missing from the back of one of the chairs. The colors were dark and dated. The bed was as hard as a board and barely larger (if at all) than a full size - for a €1000/nt suite! On top of it, the bathroom was something out of a cheap Vegas dive from the '70s - gold glitter bathtub and sink, bizarre shower (with just a wand, btw) and a cracked wall by the toilet. The staff was friendly enough and the 2-Michelin starred restaurant was fantastic. However, those are the only positives of this incredibly dated and neglected hotel. Definitely don't recommend!

Yelp
Such a pity that this high class hotel was so unyielding when I had to change my booking.  I think that is a pitiful service ethic, particularly as I was clear it was a family emergency that was unavoidable.  Hopefully they'll use my "donation" and unused room for some customer service training.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here in Feb. 2013 and were upgraded to a mini-suite with ocean views and 2 small balconies for $200/night. The service was wonderful, there were no foul odors, and had we been offended by gold sinks, we wouldn't have stayed at this hotel. It was and I hope still is a wonderfully unique hotel that I will someday take my daughters to. It successfully managed to mesh classic antiques with whimsical modern design while maintaining it's architectural dignity. And the staff was uniquely dressed to match. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Okay... I get it. This place is incredibly old with a lot of history... but you know what gets old? The fact that it's old. I feel a bit cheated by the fact that this received 5-stars in Nice. Granted we only stayed in a Deluxe room - nothing was really 5-star quality. Maybe I'd take my kids back here one day; then I'll try and convince them that this is where they filmed "Night at the Museum 2." BUT, the beds are incredibly comfy (with a 100% mohair throw) and they use Fragonard shower products. AND the staff is incredibly accommodating - that definitely counts for something.

Yelp
This review is for the bar at the hotel. The two of us were there on a Tuesday at around 6 PM. We each ordered a vodka tonic, splash of cranberry. We were astonished when our bill arrived - €56 total!! We were charged €9 each just for the tonic portion of our drink. While the ambience is unique unique, and we are well-traveled, we've never paid that much for two drinks.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. They cater to your every needs. The walls are stitched padded fabric, amazing. Eclectic art throughout the hotel. Very fun. Amazing history here vs a cold modern sterile hotel ie. the czar of Russia's! chandelier is in the main sitting room! Michelin rated restaurant. Others may may complain of some vintage furniture pieces but we loved it. Will be back for sure.

Yelp
We got the room at a huge discount which was wonderful for a 5-star hotel, however, other than the service and the beautiful artwork, not much else was 5 stars. Our trip started off great when we arrived. The bellman and concierge were very helpful and informed us that we had been upgraded to a larger room...The room was old and quite tacky (e.g. sparkly gold sinks and tub). While it was very large, our 'queen' size bed was actually just two singles that they had put next to each other and 'connected' with one queen size fitted sheet. This, and the horrible pillows, made it very difficult to sleep. In addition, there was no continuity among the artwork/decor. The hotel looks like it has received too much artwork and they are running out of places to put things, so they have just mixed it all together into a billion dollar eyesore. There is no cohesiveness. I must say, however, that the location was PERFECT. We were in near immediate proximity to the Mediterranean, shops and loads of restaurants. If I could be promised a better bed, I would stay there again.

Yelp
This hotel is an old beauty which is nor maintained properly and under no circumstances comply with its 5Star raiting. 3 star is a very max it really deserves. Pathetic toileteries fixed to the wall, no hair conditioner, no cotton pads, no shower cap, no nothing in toilet applieances. Ugly and shaddy lavatories, falling wall paintings. At breakfast wait for 30min to get coffee and dont expect much anyways, even celection of cheeses (in France!) was only 2 choices. Overall, a real disappointment. Not even talking about value for money. Make no mistake, this is in reality a 3 star hotel.

Yelp
We stayed here on our honeymoon! So just be prepared that everything about this place was perfect!! We stayed here for a week and the staff could not have been nicer - the entire staff was just wonderful! The room was beautifully decorated and the view was just killer. I couldn't believe that this place was a hotel as it is truly a museum. The place is amazing. My husband and I spent several hours our first night just getting lost on every floor to see everything that they showed there. The location of the hotel is perfect on the promenade and near all the great restaurants. Since most people are from out of town staying here definitely ask for restaurant suggestions. They know what they are talking about. Its a once in a life time kind of place to stay and you should definitely do it at least once in a life time.

Yelp
Money was stolen out of my bag after I gave it to security for safekeeping while I went for a walk in the afternoon.

Yelp
This place is a hotel and museum in one. Incredibly beautiful. There is no other hotel like this in the world. Pillows are the best I've ever had in 50 years of travel. Bed is great, too. If you get a sea view, you will never want to leave. At first, the breakfast was a little off, but they quickly made changes to turn it around. That alone is a sign of excellence and shows that they care. Pastries alone are tastiest in France. I would return again and again to this hotel. Prices in Nice overall are far better than Paris, making a place like this historic 5-star hotel an awesome deal. This is true for food in the area, too. Large portions and good prices on food and drink everywhere in town.

Yelp
The Bad: The room furniture is old and scratched, no maintaining of finishes. The pictures on the wall are always crooked. I had to wait an hour after my first call for someone to come open the fitness center. There is an entire display case dedicated to the owner, very weird. The fabric inside the elevator is ripped and worn. The trim buttons around the elevator control panel are all different and some light up while others do not. There is nothing included in the price of the room. It says beach access, but unless you're going to lay on rocks it will cost you €40 a day. The booking should have included breakfast, which magically disappeared from our reservation. The air conditioning barely works and smells foul. Other than the head concierge, the rest of the concierge staff is rude and downright undermining of your stay. The bathroom has no shower. The prices in the bar are outrageous, €22 for a mixed drink. The internet disconnects every 30 seconds. The Good: 1. Room attendants are excellent. 2. The location is excellent. 3. The view is excellent. Suggestion: Stay somewhere else... Not worth €600 a night.

Yelp
I havn't stayed at this hotel but I have ate in the quirky and somewhat strange Carnival tea room. This place is Kitsch to the max and quirky would be an understatement. But it's a great experience and reasonably priced for Nice, the lemon tea and cake I had was really good. I would recommend going here as it really does offer something different.

Yelp
If your visiting Nice, I cannot suggest anywhere better to stay. The hotel is bulging with character, from the artwork to the ambience, to the ghostly lift doors (you will see what i mean when you get there). The interior is quirky yet exquisite, and the location gives you instant access to Nice with a frontage onto the promenade for the beach or walks overlooking the sea. The staff are passionate about the hotel, which adds a lot to the experience. This hotel is a bit of a cote d'azure legend, and after staying here, you will see why

Yelp
Front desk lost our bags, gave us the wrong room and refused our first request for the correct room. Found our bags after an hour myself. They were in the hallway on a different floor. Paid for ocean view and got a view of a courtyard. Was given a BS excuse that we were upgraded. Had to find original documentation of ocean view suite on booking myself. Eventually, after we had unpacked, hotel agreed to switch us. Carried my own bags. Gave us a room where WiFi did not work and room had another guest's belongings in it. Complained 3 times in person at front desk about WiFi and was ignored. Next time, I'm staying at the Hyatt 2 blocks away for half the price.

Yelp
I am not sure what to rate this place because honestly I didn't like it so much but my husband loved how it was old and gaudy and historic. I love comfort and clean and service and food. This place is old and wants to take you back in time and the rooms are whatever and it was really expensive, comes with no breakfast and I was just not that into it I would rate it 3.5 stars actually.

Jeremy J.

Yelp
Staff is great. Hotel is average. Very nice LOOKING until you see that its really outdated inside your room. My 30" TV had only 3 channels that worked. 30euro for breakfast?! Carpet has been there since the 80's! Twin beds pushed together to make a king.

Anonymous N.

Yelp
We visited Hotel Negresco's hotel bar on two occasions last summer. We heard Negresco hotel was beautiful and considered a major attraction in Nice. I can honestly say it was one of the most beautiful and luxurious hotel bars I have ever visited and I have been to many. If you enjoy champagne cocktails you must visit their first level hotel bar. The cocktails are 20 euro if I remember correctly so keep this in mind! All in all I give this place 5 stars for service, cocktails, music and ambiance.

Yelp
Don't have any intentions of getting drunk or even a buzz at this gin joint. You'll need the smoothest of moves to get any action in this place. Takes about 45 minutes to get the WRONG drink after Don Juan de Marco finally returns to your table. Drinks are 20 Euro and it will take 20 to get you drunk as their drinks are as strong as a Shirley Temple. On the plus side, the hotel lobby is very opulent and your girlfriend will be delighted at all the photo ops.
