How to Navigate Paris's Louvre Museum Like a Pro

"Le Nemours is a café located near the Louvre Museum, known for its welcoming atmosphere and classic French fare. It's an ideal spot for visitors to relax with a chocolat chaud or a croque monsieur before heading to the museum." - Elaine Sciolino

"This quintessential café, just across from the Louvre, is on my list because it is in my ‘hood. When I was a young girl first visiting Paris, I gazed with wonder at the lit-up grand dames of the 1st arrondissement—the Regina, the Hotel du Louvre, the Lotti—so distant in every way from the dump with the bathroom down the hall where I was staying. Now I book the Regina whenever I am in Paris and spend my afternoons at the Place Colette, under the Roman columns of Le Nemours."

Delightful establishment, with a prompt and friendly staff. Fresh and tasty options for lunch. Great for people-watching.

Google
The service was quick and friendly. The food was decent. The outdoor seating is nice. It’s not too close to the road but still plenty to watch. Tables are not right next to hundreds of people rushing by your table.

Google
Perfect location near the palais royal. We sat outside but the cafe has a beautiful inside space too. The stuff was polite and the service was quick. We tried a Croque Monsieur and a Quishe Lorraine with spinach and blue cheese . They were delicious . We also drunk americano coffee. It was a Saturday afternoon and in the square there were many dance groups that made our stay there pleasant.

Google
A good place to have a glass of champagne on a sunny day. Nicolas Feuillatte champagne and Sancerre white wine are always a good idea. Service is friendly and professional. Sometimes there are dancing events on the Place Colette and you can watch people dancing Swing while you enjoy your drink.

Google
Perfect location near the Palais Royal. We sat outside, but the indoor space is beautiful too. The staff was polite, and the service was quick. We tried a Croque Madame and tartare—both were delicious ❤️

Dropped by for some coffee and dessert, both were super tasty! The place had a chill and cozy vibe, really enjoyed it.

Google
We arrived at around 10am. They only serve 3 types of breakfast sets and drinks. I ordered a 13€ set: Orange juice, hot drink, croissant and bread. Croissant is cold. Bread is hard with very little butter. Unexpected. Location is great. Service is quick.

Google
Service here is almost negligible! Our waiter was quite rude and impatient with us. We called for the bill, and he just waved his hand and grunted. Food was mediocre for the price you are paying. Basically, paying for the close proximity to the Lourve. Once and done experience.

Yelp
We needed a warm treat after exploring Palais Royal in the morning rain and the breakfast set menu was just what we needed! Comes with two beverages - we chose orange juice and hot chocolate - and a beautifully buttered baguette and croissant with jam. The seating area is a bit tight so just be careful, as the servers will move quickly behind you.

Yelp
After the claustrophobic chaos from the museum, chilling outside and drink is badly needed. Service was prompt & polite. Amazing how many tables our waiter was hustling. Kept the drinks coming with the utmost proper posture and smile! We enjoyed a appetizer plate with giant capers and the most savory truffle spread. Delicious. When you imagine Paris ~ a busy cafe across from the Louvre, a vast courtyard filled with pedestrian traffic, everyone drinking bubbles with Parisian sunglasses on. Just like a movie.

Yelp
Le Nemours is a lovely cafe in Pont Royal, a short walk from the Louvre. The food is typical and service is good. Excellent for a late evening cocktail as well.

Christy T.

Yelp
Very good coffee and toast with butter and jam. Ambience is casual . Service is good. A short walk from the Louvre.

Yelp
We were around in this area. We saw so many people eating here and want to give it a try. My friend and I ordered the chicken bowl. It's so tasty, but the chicken is very dry. I can't finish it. The Le tuna is pretty good the baguette is soft inside and crisp outside. The rest of the dishes are average. Customer service is just okay. :)

Yelp
We stopped here on our first morning in Paris. The breakfast menu was very limited but I think they just served a traditional French breakfast and that's why options were so limited. I had a cappuccino, croissant and had my husbands baguette slice that came with butter and a delicious jam. He also had some freshly squeezed orange juice, which was also great. Service was ok. They were busy and did a good job getting our food and drinks out quickly. The croissant was light and flaky. A great breakfast to kickstart our day of sightseeing! Located close to the Louvre.

Yelp
Unfortunately the most unfriendliest of waiters/staff we have encountered in France. Went there for breakfast and after being seated the waiter did not come to our table for 15 minutes, and only came because we flagged him down several times. We were then informed that the kitchen was closed and only coffee and breads were available. If I could give them negative stars I would.

Yelp
This is the only cafe in Paris where I thought to myself, "I need to eat there." It's exactly what I pictured a cafe would look like in Paris. Small round tables for two, lined up in rows, perhaps 2-3 feet apart, all facing away from the restaurant. I chose a table at the end, in the front. The waiter was nice enough to move the table next to me a foot more away from me, being a non-smoker. Ashtrays at all the other tables, with everyone else smoking. I ordered a coffee with milk and a croque madame style sandwich. It was simple, but delicious. I enjoyed the entire experience.

Yelp
If I were to describe the classic Parisian café, Le Nemours would be it. This establishment has a number of outdoor tables that span out onto a courtyard that is bound by classic French architecture, a busy Paris street, and the Louvre in the nearby distance. They also have indoor tables that are surrounded by very nice French interior decor. They offer a wide variety of meals at this café. Plus, of course, the have the various expected espresso orientated drinks. Many of the staff possess that aloft, verging on the annoyed, attitude of French food servers, so it is always an adventure to dine here. As is common in Paris, and other French cities, you will commonly find locals coming here, ordering a single espresso, and sitting at a table, viewing their phone or talking to their friends, while smoking cigarettes, for hours on end. Again, this is an ideal example of a Paris café and, if for no other reason, this is one of the reasons I recommend trying this restaurant. The other thing is, the food here is unexpectedly good. It is obviously prepared with a lot of focus on high-level ingredients and presentation. So, you won't be disappointed in your meal. Great Place! A Paris Must!

Yelp
To get my point across about how good one of their sandwiches is ... I first came here while on vacation in Paris in 2014 and ever since then, I kept thinking about the same sandwich. When I next came back here many, many years later, it was still on their menu, and I just about died when I saw it there. I had to have it again, and it lived up to the memory of how good it really was. It was the Le Bollywood baguette, and it had chicken, tomato, red onions and a curry mayo and it was pure heaven. The first time I came here I sat outside, but opted for indoors this time to avoid the disgusting smoke outdoors. It's a cute interior and the service was good and friendly and fast and it's very near to Le Louvre and in good walking distance to many other places one might visit whilst in Paris. Each and every time I come back to Paris, I will be sure to stop by Le Nemours, as it's a great little casual spot for yummy breakfasts and lunches and one of my favourites.

Yelp
Very busy, lengthy menu, not overpruced considering location next to Louvre. I had mixed ham and cheese baquette, coke zero and water. "In the know" tip. Ask for carafe l' eau and you wont get charged for water.

Yvette 'Divie' E.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here on a Friday afternoon! Tip: for a lunch on a weekday, get here before the 12:30 workday rush! Food/drinks: Niçoise was excellent, served with tuna, anchovies, bell pepper, olives, green beans, and other yummy stuff. A little heavy handed with the oil at the bottom, but light, refreshing, and fresh. I heard the croque monsieur was good enough to eat again. House rosé was cool and just dry enough, just like I like it. Service: It was pretty good (which i can't always say while in Paris). Quickly served. And we were checked on. Probably gets worse as the crowd increases but our timing was good. Ambiance: This is what I come for. Outdoor seating, perfect for people watching. Beautiful weather. C'est parfait! Would come again to prendre un verre and read a good book.

Yelp
Decent restaurant to get a quick bite at. Seems to be packed quite often considering the location is really close to the Louvre. Came here for a few drinks and the complimentary pretzels. Great spot for a bit of outdoor scenery. We were seated quickly. The service seemed a bit slow due to the amount of people. We enjoyed it!

Yelp
Delicious salads, great service, beautiful location sandwiched between the Louvre and Palais-Royal Garden.

Yelp
Good food Delicious hot chocolate Great service Wonderful location across from the louvre

Yelp
A short walk from the Louvre, in the heart of the metro area of Paris, this café, like most has exactly what you'd expect. The charm of this café comes from the service and quality of the drinks. The building itself isn't too impressive but that's what I like about cafés in Europe, especially France. I recommend this café for anyone who'd like a quick coffee and perhaps a quick bite during the day or even in the evening.
google avatar

Daira R.

Yelp
Super just okay. We stopped here while awaiting a tour of the louvre for a quick drink and snack. We ordered a glass of wine, a beer, and a crepe. The wine and beer came out quickly. The crepe was perfectly adequate. No major complaints, but nothing really jumped out. It was fairly expensive - but that's no surprise based on where it was. For the location, it's worth it stopping by if you're waiting for the louvre. Otherwise, I wouldn't return

Yelp
Good services, excellent place to have a dinner an enjoy the local food! Amazing day with family.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a great snack here after two hours at the Louvre. The staff was friendly and did their best to understand our high school French. The cheese plate was to die for. The location was great for people watching and cocktails. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab something warm on a cold rainy day and came across this charming bistro cafe near the Louvre museum. The hostess and the waiter were not so warm and friendly by Canadian standards but when you are paying 7 euros (10$ CAD) for a hot chocolate, the least you can expect is a smile and friendly service. The hot chocolate was nothing to brag about as we were expecting a real authentic hot chocolate but didn't quite get that. I guess pretty walls and being located steps away from the Louvre justifies the 21 euro bill for 3 hot chocolates. I wouldn't go back but do check it out if you want to add another pretty pic on Instagram ;-)
google avatar

Annika H.

Yelp
Yes it's pretty loud and touristic, but in the end we enjoyed our stay! The food was delicious but really expensive (17€ for a salad, even a good one, and even for paris, just too much...). I understand why people criticize the waiting times, but hey, it's pretty busy there.
google avatar

Kyle N.

Yelp
One of Paris great cafés, located near Palais Royal and the legendary Comédie Française, right across from Le Louvre, the patio seating offers a great view of all three. Nice cocktails, a good food menu selection, coffee not too great, but truly great service; the waiters are so nice you would forget you're in Paris until the views reminds you! All jokes aside we loved this place.

Yelp
We stopped by after just arriving in Paris and were pleasantly surprised. Our hostess was very friendly and immediately set a table for our party of 6. She was very patient with us trying to order in English, even though the menu has English descriptions. We did not have coffee or tea but had a quick lunch composing of 3 sandwiches, fois gras, and a plain sugar crepe. I had the croque madam which was very good. The fois gras was served with fig jam and toast and was very tasty. Our server recommended a wine to pair with the fois gras, and it converted this dish to a delectable experience. The plain ham sandwich my dad ordered was..... Plain. I forgot the third sandwich, but it was also good. It was a great experience here with very good service. There is allot of seating outside, but inside is quite tight. They also have a bar but we did not partake.
google avatar

Yelp
We had lunch at Le Nemours after a day trip to the Louvre. I was not expecting much from a touristy restaurant. I ordered the ham and eggplant sandwich and all I could eat was the red pesto and the eggplant , only a tiny slice of ham . My daughter had the salmon and lentil salad, it was so dry no dressing. The food was less than average but the 3 stars are for the good and fast service.

Magnolia Event D.

Yelp
Poor service. They really ignore all your requests. You basically beg to be seated and then beg for a check when you realize how horrible it is. Ordered gin fizz- they only make the 5 drinks on menu or wine and then pate and they served it premade in a jar with label and lid. Steer clear
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
It is a very classic french bistro and a conservative choice for lunch or dinner. A place to get your croque madame and croque monsieur. Staff is quick and the food is good. Especially their nos speciality is great. My parents like classic French food and they enjoyed this place. Me and my wife are not a fan of classic french food but we still liked it.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
One of our best meals in Paris. Our family of four stopped here on a day we were visiting the Louvre, and it was one of the best meals we had during our stay - even with picky eaters. The portion sizes will leave you very satisfied but not sick. Expect slow service in Europe - I see that as a complaint in here from Americans, but it is common everywhere we visit. Visited June 2013

Yelp
Thanks to Mike G., we were able to find sustenance after a loooong art day at Le Louvre. We had lunched beautifully at Le Fumoir, and knew we would be late for dinner. Paris seems to run on an 8pm dinner schedule, with only one seating. If we arrived at 9 or later, the kitchens were universally done, and if we arrived at 7, the restaurants were deserted, so we found cafes and wine bars the most convenient for this mostly art trip! Le Nemours has that generously columned terrace with rows of tables, and brusque, but curiously professional waiters, who do know their menu. We staggered in around 10pm, suffering from museum fatigue, and got the last open table. A high spirited late night crowd of locals, students, and tourists enjoyed the view of the world going by from the terrace. The special of red wine and a blue cheese and raison baquette was spectacular as a late night snack! Also, service was compris (or free)! Don't miss the redesigned metro entrance across from Le Nemours that looks like a palanquin for an Indian elephant!

Yelp
My friend and I stumbled upon this place and I am really glad we did. We ended up going twice during our stay in Paris. The croque monsieur was delicious and for a drink I recommend the saint germain, it was the best drink I had in Paris. Our waiter James was also very friendly and was patient with me when I was trying to speak the little french I know.
google avatar

Audrey C.

Yelp
I will have to add this Cafe/Bar to my top 3 favorites in Paris. Excellent for people watching at Place Colette, just in front of the Louvre Museum. Made famous for recently by a scene in Angelina Jolie's movie "The Tourist". Waiters are friendly, even took time to take our photos. And most of all capuccino is good! We had a simple breakfast of Cafe au lait with croissants & pain chocolat, just to jumpstart our morning before heading to power shopping at the nearby shops at the famous Rue Faubourg St. Honore. Very easy to find and the nearest metro is Mussee Louvre/Rivoli.
google avatar

Gavrilo I.

Yelp
The Cafe is in walking distance from the louvre. In side is very updated and the staff was quick and spoke English. I had the Croque Madam and a glass of wine. The sandwich was amazing. Seriously was. When you order a sandwich with hams, melted cheese and a fried egg you expect it to be very heavy. This was just perfect. I would recommend to everyone!
google avatar

Thomas F.

Yelp
Slow service and over priced food that isn't available at most times of the day. Go to the cafe across the street.
google avatar

Ken C.

Yelp
6€ for the worst cappuccino I've had in a very long time. Like gas station cappuccino machine bad.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Le Nemours is a cute Parisian cafe near the Louvre. We stopped in for lunch and I really like this place. I ordered the ham and eggplant sandwich. It was warm and tasty, but I wish there had been more ham on it. The service here was pretty good. We were in and out relatively quickly, which was what we were looking for.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Following a trip to the Louvre and Notre Dame, we had received a recommendation to try Le Nemours. It was a great atmosphere, but the food was underwhelming. My wife and I both got the Le Bascou, which is ham, tomatoes, and grilled eggplant. There were plenty of tomatoes and eggplant, but left me desiring more ham. Service was quick to get the food out, but a little slow following up and also with the check.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
Beautiful, scrumptious french desserts, crepes and wonderful coffee & wine options, with an adorable outdoor (but packed) seating area. Enjoy the wonderful view & entertaining 'people watching' at this park/square. The service wasn't very friendly and took awhile to get a waiter's attention but food & drinks came quick after ordering. Walking distance from the Louvre. Prices were actually decent compared to the rest of the area.
google avatar

Brittney B.

Yelp
It was cold outside, but because they have outdoor heaters, it was quite pleasant sitting outside. I enjoyed a ham and cheese sandwich (croque madame) and the best cup of coffee in Paris. My French is weak, but it seemed to help to order in French, so try that if you are a tourist.

John F.

Yelp
Good brasserie near the Louvre. It's on a relatively quiet square so sitting outside is pleasanter than at nearby sidewalk cafes overwhelmed by noise and exhaust fumes. The only fumes here are from the smokers at the next table... Service was efficient and friendly. The Bordeaux red was quite inexpensive and good. The quiche Lorraine was outstanding and the sardines in lobster oil were tasty with a generous serving of toast, though I was surprised that they cami in their tin (which, fortunately, had been opened before they arrived on the table.) I certainly recommend this brasserie as a reasonably-priced oasis of (relative) quiet in a busy part of Paris.
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
Extremely busy, both inside and out, because of its phenomenal location between the Louvre and the Garden of Palais Royale. Not the cheapest cafe around, but great setting and atmosphere.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
We have been going to Cafe Nemours for years, for lunch or simply Cafe. Situated in the shadow of the Comedie Francaise Theatre and the Palais Royal, the setting is splendid as much for people watching and the ambience of afternoon coffee or tea. Food seems secondary. Nemours is located in a colonnade at Palais Royale so expect both a local clientele but many more tourists from tout le monde. As you will hear as much Japanese, Italian, and English as you do French, the waiters can sometimes be frazzled but nonetheless remain professional. Le Nemours has all the usual salads and specialities along with drinks and Cafe. On a recent visit I had a really nice warmed tomato and mozzarella sandwich on a baguette. My wife had a very good goat cheese quiche. Food is standard bistro fare but not exceptional, yet the setting and the prices remind you you are in Paris.

David F.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches. The waiter didn't speak English, but he was very friendly and we got along fine. As we ate, a small ensemble set up in front on the square and started playing classical music. So delightful!!!
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
Excellent, friendly, prompt service and good food. Wonderful and relaxing after a day in the Louvre!

Georg G.

Yelp
We went there for lunch - we liked the location, and thought it may be nice to sit in a nice spot with a window. That spot they told us was "reserved" though, so they (rudely) sat us at a place too close to the bar where folks where standing a bit cramped having a coffee. The waiter had quite the attitude, but so did his colleague - she told a lady with a small scooter helmet that she wasn't allowed to have that with her, and put it down on the floor where people may fall over it. It was almost funny ... we just had a tea and decided to have lunch somewhere else.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
After an exhausting search for somewhere to eat a quick dinner, without a reservation, we spotted Le Nemours & it was mostly empty. Sold. The food was OK, nothing spectacular by any means, but it filled me up so I could go home and get some much-needed Zzzzz's. The server was decent enough, but nothing really stood out to me as great. To top off the just-OK experience, there was a very handsy couple gettin' it on the entire time we were there, practically in our laps. If this is your idea of "people watching," then you are in for a treat.

Christopher T.

Yelp
I did not expect much from this place as you can see the Louvre from this restaurant and places near big attractions can get away with poor quality food. But the food here was excellent. I had the croque madame and someone else had the quiche Lorraine. Both were sumptuous and served with a tasty salad. The waitstaff is hard working and pleasantly switched to English after my abyssal attempt at French. I was pleasantly surprised!

Pam M.

Yelp
Convenient to the Louvre, with decent bistro fare and very charming waitstaff! Sandwiches, particularly the curried chicken (Bollywood?) were good. Charcuterie board was excellent! Nice place to sit and watch the crowd.
google avatar

Nuoc M.

Yelp
Great location, nice terrace, beautiful building. But : very unpleasant staff, dirty toilets just next to the kitchen !

Meghan W.

Yelp
Delicious Niçoise salad! It was huge and definitely filling. I also got the croque madame and oh my gosh...it's a good thing I got a salad too. Lots of delicious cheese, good ham and an egg. Very rich and not for the healthy, but so worth it! Service was fine, no better and no worse than anywhere else I went in Paris. Great lunch before going to the louvre!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
here's where i park my toosh a lot. on lazy summer days with a cold drink or espresso, an aperitif before dinner or a late nightcap. the terrace fronting the square is usually packed but comfortably spacious. and always a steady parade of stylish locals, random tourists on a stroll and actors from the theater smoking on balconies. service is friendly if tardy...the garçons are in no rush. sit back and enjoy the view.
