The decor inside is simple but inviting. I had a nice cebiche as a starter, with great bread.
And then the beef + fries came, and everything went to hell. Good fries, but 5 on the plate, as if potatoes cost the price of truffles. My steak (entrecôte) was so sinewy that I could not cut it, let alone chew it.
My wife's piece (faux filet) had a definite funky smell and taste. The guy two tables from us sent his back, and they apologized to him that the piece has been overaged. They said that they usually age this cut for 3 weeks but this had been aged for 5.
Also service was mainly MIA. I had to stand and walk up to the waitress to order an extra plate of fries. Then she never came to ask whether we wanted more wine (we did), nor did she check on how we were doing with the entrees (very badly, thank you very much).
The problem is that when this place was called Le Bis it had access to meats from a fantastic butcher, Hugo Desnoyer. This is no longer the case. The meat quality has gone downhill, and for a (casual) steakhouse, that's a deal breaker.
We will never be back.
