On the Grid : Le Silence de la Rue

"A music junkie's dream come true. The perfectly named Silence de la Rue has a wide selection of vinyl and CDs, particularly world music and indie rock, but black music, rock classics, and hip-hop. Affordable prices and incredible variety make this a place to satisfy anyone's appetite for tunes." - Violaine & Jérémy

I had such a great experience here. Owner played a bunch of records for me, even opening new ones. I hope they can reopen soon, there’s a resurgence of love of vinyl and this is the kind of store that can thrive. At least I hope so!

Solid shop for new issues, reissues, and a smaller selection of Used vinyl - in most all genres you can imagine! I stumbled into here on the way to another shop and was pleasantly surprised. It took some digging but I found a couple vintage/used pieces to bring home. If you're into new pressings though, you'll be very happy you made a visit.

Easily the best record store in Paris, you can find pretty much anything here, for a good price too! And the owner is the best guy ever! 10/10

Worst experience ever in a vinyl record store after more than 30 years buying and playing vinyl records as a DJ. The owner has been unreasonably extremely rude and disrespectful to me. I then left the store without saying a word and will never come back. I definitely don’t recommend.

I don't usually leave reviews on Google, but this time I think it's necessary. First time in the store. Having seen the bad reviews I was kind of hesitant to visit, and specially to initiate in conversation with the owner. He was so open and welcoming that I felt bad thinking I was distracting him from his work, cause he went out of his way to chat with me ( although I didn't buy anything !) Also, he seems to know about music, which is a plus cause it shows he's not just selling a product. So: five stars!

I find it curious that a lot of reviewers have said negative things about the owner. I stopped in there today, and I dunno, maybe it's because I'm an American, but he was as nice and as friendly as could be, and we had an enjoyable chat. The variety of the stock was better than average and the prices were very reasonable, but the vinyl stock was maybe 85% new and 15% used, and I am mostly looking for vintage pressings, so I left empty-handed. The records were also packed extremely tightly in the bins, and some shelf wear was visible.

Awesome store! The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. The selection is extensive, and if you can't find something, they're more than happy to help order it for you. Definitely coming back :)

I've visited La Silence de la Rue 4-5 times now from Australia, always with a great selection and prices. The reviewers commenting on the owner's alleged rudeness or lack of greeting should stick to online shopping - a record store will thrive or fail on the important criteria mentioned earlier. The owner has always been extremely inviting and pleasant, chatty, funny and helpful. Personally I'd prefer to lose many of the artist header cards to create space in the bins - they could keep the main ones but all those artists there is only one LP available do not need a section divider. Looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
We visited this shop as part of a record store circuit while vacationing in Paris, and I have to say it was the best store we went to that day. Great selection of both new and used LPs, especially indie and garage rock. We also thought the shop was organized nicely. I ended up purchasing a couple records and I can see myself returning to the store again in the future.

Yelp
In general, I didn't have much success in my record shopping Paris. Silence de la Rue was one of the few stores where I purchased something. It's a good-sized store, though not nearly as big as it should be for the amount of stock they have. This was very much my biggest pet peeve here. All the bins were stuffed full to the point where you could not flip at all. It meant pulling several records out of each row everytime you wanted to browse through. But this was worth doing in that their selection was strong across many genres. I ended up walking away with a cool Tighten up collection. Otherwise, I would say pricing and service were about average here compared to other stores I visited. That is to say, records were priced fairly and the staff let you do your thing without too much fuss. Check it out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Good for new vinyl and reissues. A very small used vinyl selection. Records are packed in pretty tightly so it makes it hard to browse.
