An insider's guide to Milan, Italy - SilverKris

"A pizzeria celebrated for its thin-crust pizzas; ideal for anyone craving a well-executed, crisp, and flavorful slice rather than deep or heavy styles." - Paola Guallini

Google
I visited this restaurant recently with high expectations, but unfortunately the experience fell far short of its steep prices. First, the pizza arrived practically cold and lacked any real flavor. At €30-35 per pie, I expected something exceptional—yet I’ve enjoyed far superior pizzas at simpler places for €10–15. Those were fresh, hot, and genuinely delicious, whereas this one was anything but. The Milanese risotto was equally disappointing. It didn’t taste like a proper risotto—there was no depth of flavor or al dente texture, just a bland, mushy plate that felt unfinished. The only dish that showed promise was the steak tartare, which at least had a clean, balanced taste. Service only added to the frustration: our order was mixed up, and we ended up waiting nearly an extra hour for the correct dishes to arrive. And even the tiramisu failed to redeem things—a plain white cream reminiscent of a mass-market supermarket dessert, with none of the authentic texture or flavor I look for in a classic Italian tiramisu. The sole highlight was the restaurant’s atmosphere—the warm décor and soft lighting create a pleasant, romantic setting. But sadly, neither the food quality nor the service justifies the high prices. I can’t recommend this place unless you value ambiance over taste and efficiency.

Google
The pizzas are amazing especially the parma pizza, the pastas we ordered were also good but a bit too creamy and heavy. The waiters were friendly and accomodating.

Google
Don’t believe the google rating. A traditional Italian restaurant which is incredibly popular between locals, especially higher status people. The atmosphere is old and incredibly Italian. Yes, you need to prepare for waiting time, to get seated to get served but it worth it. Book in advance and lunch is a better choice to get your table as you reserved. Sunday lunch time is the best to see the local families and soak in the Milan lifestyle. Food is amazing, the pizza is paper thin and fantastic. Tiramisu is must have. It’s a pricey place but do not miss. Go and enjoy.

Google
Fantastic local restaurant, confused about the low reviews as this place serves some of the best pizza in town. We went for Sunday lunch and the atmosphere was great - very classy, service was spectacular and the pizza… wow paper thin and crispy. Pricey but well worth it!

Google
Le Specialità offers good pizza with quality ingredients, but the prices feel excessive. While the dough is well made and the toppings fresh, paying such a high price for a single pizza makes the experience less satisfying. Service is polite and the setting is pleasant, yet the value for money is not quite there.

Google
The first time I visited Milan, my local friends brought me here. It’s now a staple and go-to favorite I find myself a couple times a month. The freshly made gluten free pizza with dedicated gluten-free ovens and pages of pizza options that are all equally delicious. Very friendly service and a great wine list. You’ll feel like a local and enjoy one of the best pizza places in Milan!

Google
Stumbled upon this place by accident. Easily the best restaurant we’ve visited in Milan. Excellent service and food. Really good with allergies too, I’m gluten and egg free and had lots of options.

Yelp
Popular restaurant in Milan famous for its variety of pizza . Order your own pie. Even in Monday night was busy. Older warm atmosphere.

Yelp
Ambiance very Italian, service excellent, food delicious. Prices okay for food and dessert. Didn't like the 10.00 euro cover charge?!? Also had three big glasses of wine total 128.00 euro

Yelp
The thinnest, most delicious pizza I've had on my 52 years on this planet. Impeccable, prompt service and a quick turnaround from ordering to eating a slice of heaven!

Yelp
Le Specialità has hands down the best pizza I have tried. The atmosphere is fun and lively with lots of big groups and families. They recommended a pizza per person since the crust is thin, but we thought three pizzas for four people was perfect. Despite the name, the Emrata was a table favorite.

Yelp
Posto solo di tendenza , se vuoi andare per mangiare male e spendere tanto è il posto che fa per te ,la pizza fa schifo e costa un patrimonio...

Yelp
Worst service I've had in Italy so far. I never write yelp reviews but knew I had to after this experience. We sat around 8 pm and waited almost 30-40 minutes for a server to come to our table/take drink orders and almost an hour and a half to order our food. In the time we are sitting waiting to order, three tables next to ours got sat and were served before us. We are not Italians and are aware of the culture, but this is absolutely ridiculous no matter where you are from. I have traveled all around Europe, Asia, and the Americas and have never experienced anything like this. It almost seemed like the waitress wasn't serving us because we are foreigners. We felt ignored throughout the entire experience. The food was delicious when it eventually arrived, but not a good place for foreigners. This review is based solely on service. I went to several restaurants around Italy and Milan and did not experience anything like this. Do not recommend if you are visiting Milan, especially if you do not speak fluent Italian.

Yelp
Recommended by hotel people because of gluten free menu for me. A pleasant 1 mile walk from the Starhotel Rosa Grand, Milan. We went for lunch and had about the best food EVER, anywhere. I had GF pasta with anchovies and fresh tomato. SO good! But so rich (olive oil, cheese??) I could not finish it. Very freshly made. My wife had veggie soup. Ordinary, right? Extraordinary in this restaurant. Obviously freshly made for her and not soggy from sitting in a hot pot. I saw fresh chestnuts as we entered the restaurant. I've loved them all my life, but sometimes they are not easy to find in the States. We had them for "dessert." Freshly roasted for us. Management gave us (no charge) homemade breads (fantastic GF for me) and biscotti (again, even GF for me) at end of meal. Yes, for fairly little food ordered (1 soup, 1 pasta, 1 bottled water, 1 hot tea, chestnuts) our meal was expensive (around $70 USD), but we enjoyed it so much and ALL the people were so wonderful. We WILL return. They have several branzini dishes calling to me. Service and people were simply wonderful. I cannot say enough good about them. * * * Two days later, after a disappointing meal at a different restaurant, my wife and I returned. I HAD to return before leaving Milano! This time a ordered branzini al forno with olives, capers, potatoes and tomatoes. Again, YES the food here is not inexpensive. My fish cost €28. But I was served a large portion of branzini filet. My wife ordered chicken filet and was rewarded with also a large portion and a salad. The food was OBVIOUSLY freshly prepared and was delicious. Again, service at all levels was exceptional! When you sit, you are brought these awesome, huge, delicious olives as an appetizer plus fresh bread (even gluten free bread for me). This is all included in the "cover charge" ubiquitous to at least Milano. After dinner, you are brought wonderful almond biscotti that would compete with my mother's Mandel bread and maybe ice cream filled chocolate bon bond. NOTE: unlike other restaurants that buy bread and desserts, Le Specialità makes their own including gluten free bread and the ice cream bon bons. If I am ever back in Milano, this is where I am eating!

Yelp
The place is nice, there's a parking area in a few meters. The waiters are kind and the food comes fast! This is for sure the BEST pizza in Milan

Yelp
Deliciously thin crust , freshly baked pizza! Clearly a Local's favorite , it was nice to see many families coming to the restaurant together for their weekend gathering. May be best to make reservation for weekend dinners, or come early as the restaurant opens at 7pm. We ordered a pizza each and that was perfect for dinner! Thin crust with fresh tomato base, many Parma ham / cold meat topping options and seafood as well. Highly recommended for off the beaten path , authentic Italian pizza experience!

Caroline G.

Yelp
Maybe we ordered the wrong thing (one of the pizzas allowed you to sample four different kinds of pizza, the name escapes me) but we were disappointed. This was recommended by a local, but fell flat for us. It was expensive, unremarkable, and the pizza tasted overly fishy/salty/soggy. Service was fine, but again-nothing special.

Yelp
The best gluten free restarurant we have eaten ever worldwide!!! We have been here a few months ago and came back with all the family when we vacationed in garda. . , .

Yelp
The Best Pizza in Milano! Friendly Fast service with an extensive menu. Local casual dining at its finest.

Hannah F.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Milan, and one of my favorites of all time! They have an extensive gluten free/friendly menu and can do almost anything GF. I also came here last year when I was dairy free (and GF) and there were plenty of options. Their risotto milanese is incredible, as as their GF arribiatta pizza. Also, once we tried to go on a visit and their AC wasn't working, and the owner kindly gave us delicious prosecco to thank us for trying to come. Worth the cab ride, worth every calorie, one of my most favorite places on this planet!

Yelp
A neighborhood joint. Nothing fancy, it was a weekend, and full of families. Don't expect tourists or English speaking waiters but if you are like me, They have Gluten Free pizza Crust! And it's good. They have three pages of pizza choices, any can be made GF. Thin, classic and yummy. I was happy to say I got to eat pizza in Italy.

Yelp
Loved this place. A good 20 minutes from the Duomo on foot. Reservations are suggested, but they took us promptly anyway. Exquisite food, great local atmosphere. Families, couples, business dinners and tourists. Truffle oil pizza was great. Nicoise salad was so light -- it was the perfect compliment, The Babylon is sort of a chocolate cannoli filled with dark chocolate ganache and was sinfully rich. We shared everything, making for a great meal that was not too hard on the wasteline or the wallet.

Yelp
The pizza here is absolutely delicious. And the appetizers! I have never seen so much beautiful ham and cheese in my life. The Four seasons concierge recommended La Specialita and it was the best food we had while in Milan. No meals afterwards quite kept up. Sweet people and certainly a family atmosphere. I cannot imagine a bad meal here. BUONISSIMO!

Yelp
I was in Milan for five days and I wanted to eat Pizza. The suggestion was made through the Concierge at The Principe Di Savoia were I was staying. The concierge warned me about the prices. We were seated immediately since we had a reservation. We order two pizzas one Margherita and one with red peppers. The pizzas came within 10 minutes after we placed the order. Yes it was bigger than the plate, very crispy on the outside and very thin. The inside contrary to the outside was soft and tasty. I literally wanted to order another one for myself because it was that good. You also do not feel full after eating one by yourself. In my opinion the price for the pizza is well worth it. I will come back to Le Specialita every time I will be in Milan, I did not go to this restaurant for anything else than Pizza. Yes the ambience is rustic, the place was full on a wednesday night, but the service was attentive and welcoming. Make a reservation prior to go to the restaurant!!! I have nothing to complain since I was aware of the place and once I was back to the Hotel I made sure that I thank the concierge for the wonderful suggestion. The Restaurant has maintained over time the characteristics that set it apart, like the family atmosphere and discreet, the constant search for quality ingredients, friendliness and hospitality. It has been in Milan since 1977. After speaking with the waiter I found out that the Pizza is one of their points of pride. The dough recipe is a secret, and, at first glimpse, you will have the knowledge to enjoy one of the best pizza in Milan. To the traditional pizzas, they have more than 35, something for all tastes, they combine an excellent focaccia of Recco and new proposals for gluten-free pizzas, which have nothing to envy to the traditional pizzas. And 'the ideal place to spend nice time with your family but also for business meetings or romantic dinners for two. I did not try any other food so I cannot review it. As you read from the review if you want PIZZA GO TO LE SPECIALITA`...BE AWARE OF THE PRICES.... IS WORTH IT EVERY PENNY....

Yelp
Wanted to have great pizza while in Milan and this place came highly recommended. Ity did not disappoint. The pizzas, which are not sliced (same as most of Italy) and it was very large. I had no problem eating the whole thing and could have kept going! Living in Texas I have really learned to accept some average pizza. This place was a real treat. The key to a great pizza is a great crust and this was top shelf. Lots of choices. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them!

Yelp
Wow! Atmosphere was amazing, lots of locals which makes you feel like your in a great place! Service was great and food was out of this world, want to go back tonight lol!

Yelp
Best gluten free Italian food we had the entire trip. Gluten free heaven, my companions couldn't even tell the pasta and pizza were GF. Staff was very friendly, spoke multiple languages, lots of Italian regulars in attendance which is always a good sign! Be prepared to wait for a table around 9pm. Call ahead for a reservation to expedite the process.

Yelp
Super delicious thin pizza! Great value. The staff is really warm and friendly. Nice casual vibe

Yelp
This has been the greatest experience I've had in Italy. Not only was the food spectacular but the service is like no other. The true Italian experience. We were in Milan for 4 days and came here twice. Please try the Parma ham and burrata, best in Italy!
google avatar

Yelp
I always judge a pizzeria by its marinara, and it is amazing! Incredibly thin crust, delicious tomatoes, intensely aromatic basil, and excellent olive oil. I ate the whole thing and still felt great. Service is amazing considering how busy the place is. Be sure to reserve.

Yelp
AWESOME gluten free pizza! NEVER had pizza that good. Crisp, thin, not cheesy like American pizza. I'm going back in two days!

Peter G.

Yelp
This restaurant was a huge disappointment. First when you walk in this place you are hit with the obvious that there have been little to no updates done inside in 20+ years. The fish wire across the ceiling (enclosed building) was more than odd. People are crammed together. It would be easier at a picnic table to eat. The menus were unclean and put poorly into a greasy binder. We took the chance that this may be a diamond in the rough, however it was only the carbon we got. Service was ridiculous. Asked for 2nd bottle of water I was delivered a beer. We ordered two pizzas based on reviews (not much current). Really can't screw up a pizza right... Well if you like no flavour, over oily and raw bacon you are set. Two different pizzas same result. Unlucky night I don't think so. At 15€+ each they were already over priced. When we asked for our bill, the pricing had been altered!!! When we questioned the bill waiter got upset and ran and brought us a different menu than we ordered from. He said this was the new menu! And new pricing! He had took the menus from us so he knew we were on to him. He didn't adjust the invoice but rather asked for the corrected amount. Just as a side warning a communal jug of biscotti and candies is passed around at coffee / desert time. No tongs are used and caps kept to keep it closed. I would strong suggest that this restaurant audited financially and for health regulations!

Elisa M.

Yelp
Excellent gluten free food! They can do almost anything on the menu gluten free, and it's all delicious. We had the stuffed squash blossoms, then pizza, then tiramisu, along with gluten free beer. I was in heaven. I used to live in Italy, and this food was as good as the gluten-full stuff I used to eat. I would seriously travel back to Milan just to eat here. One quick note, the address is not number 24; it's on the same block across the street - don't give up!

Samantha M.

Yelp
Great service and great food! One of the most welcoming experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and they still waited on us well past closing, and even called a taxi for our group. The service was amazing and the food was even better. One of the best pizzas I've ever had! If I ever find myself in Milan again, I'd love to go back.

Ocim K.

Yelp
Short visit to Milan. Great restaurant, superb food, excellent service! Will do again.

Deepak S.

Yelp
Oh my! What a great dining experience on our first night in Italy! The food was superb--my wife and kids loved the pizza and I thoroughly enjoyed the risotto. The service was supreme with authentic ambience and the restaurant quickly filled to capacity by 9 pm. My daughter said it was the best gluten free pizza ever. They even had gluten free bread for her. We are looking forward to our return visit. Of course, the barbaresco recommended was amazing.

Snickers I.

Yelp
Wait there are two places in Milano for gf pizza, Italy is awesome. The pizza here was also great. There was an option to also have dessert....I was once again in heaven. The only problem is all of the gf pizza places in NYC are well...just not as good as these places in Milano.
