Great photography museum. I loved the exhibition on Helmut Newton (1920-2004), which provided a comprehensive overview of his career from the beginning until his late work. While all his "classics" were there, the show also had many "unknown" pictures (at least for me), especially from his early career. His early pictures often have more or less explicit narratives or storylines with a heavy dose of surrealism, whereas the later ones are more impactful in terms of pure effects. Some of his early pictures reminded me of Cindy Sherman's Untitled film stills. It was a "must see" show for all fans of Helmut Newton. The current exhibition on Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) is also fascinating. It includes many of his greatest "hits" as well as some lesser known works such as some of his portraits. You can see the influence of photographers such as Edward Weston (1886-1958) and Horst P. Horst (1906-1999).
