"Stepping onto the quiet Via San Tomaso it’s hard to believe the bustling city centre and tourist-swarmed Duomo are quite literally around the corner, but it's in this secret spot that you’ll find Palazzo Segreti; a stylish boutique hotel that boldly embraces Milan's culture of creativity. From the snaking hallways to the 18 unique bedrooms, every inch is a canvas used to show off carefully curated vintage furniture, custom pieces and curious modern art. After checking in we managed to pull ourselves away from admiring the artwork to try out the small but well-stocked bar, ready to serve at any hour (all 24, in fact); perfect for a pre-sightseeing coffee, a post-shopping spritz or a late night tipple. Later, after a hot and sticky day exploring Milan’s designer streets, it was a sweet relief to come back to the serene soundtrack of soft jazz and our cool, uncluttered room. Opening the French doors and sliding back the wooden shutters on our twin balconies, a gentle breeze and faint buzz of the city drifted in like a wave of calm - no mean feat at the heart of a metropolis. Whether you’re here to shop, sightsee, or simply rub shoulders with the world’s fashionistas, Palazzo Segreti ticks all the boxes for a contemporary city stay. Like many Milanese residences, Palazzo Segreti doesn’t look like all that much from the outside — just another typically stately 19th-century edifice, albeit one in a remarkably central location, just to the west of the Scala opera house, and not far from the Duomo cathedral.
