Le Sutra, Mumbai, India - Explore & Book

"Look out for this little hotel or you might miss it altogether. However, once you’re past its unassuming frontage there’s plenty to capture your attention. Conceived as an 'art hotel', this little suburban sanctuary is a great entry point for first-time travellers to India who want a rapid initiation into its art, philosophy and culture. Small enough to be a guesthouse but with the conveniences of a large hotel, including a spa and concierge services, Le Sutra packs quite a punch with its 14 original and immaculate themed rooms. From the minute you enter, there’s plenty to look at - amorphous sculptures, installations tucked into niches, literary quotations scribbled on walls and intricately inlaid flooring. The owners mobilised over 150 artists, designers and visualisers from across the country to help with the design, which was spearheaded by Mitali Bajaj of Dr. Art + Design, the Mumbai design studio. But don’t expect expensive, auction-worthy pieces; many of the artists were art students. Set in the lively northern suburb of Khar (adjacent to Bandra), Le Sutra has fantastic access to some of the city's most popular restaurants and vibrant bars. A hop, skip and jump away is Carter Road, a waterfront promenade that comes alive at dusk thanks to its long strip of street-style eateries. It’s also perfect for that early morning jog. In a city filled with either pricey signature chains or indistinctive mid-range hotels, Le Sutra is a cool addition to the pack. Highs Close to Mumbai’s most popular suburb, Bandra, which has a thriving nightlife, cosmopolitan feel and great shopping The design concept makes for an interesting stay. Ask for a guided tour of the rooms, each a one-off, with a unique carved chairTwo restaurants, serving excellent food: Out of the Blue offers Indian fare, and is super popular with locals; Olive has Mediterranean meals in a cool Ibiza settingThe themed rooms, based around the 3 gunas of Hindu philosophy, are full of beautiful detail: Buddha frescoes, horse-head beds, mirror sculptures, lotus-pond showers. Great value for money tooBooks on Indian art, philosophy and yoga in your room Lows You might be disappointed by the lack of facilities: there is no swimming pool or gymNot child friendly; best suited to single travellers or couplesIt can get noisy during the day, and we've heard that the next door bar plays loud music until after midnight on Thursday-Saturday nightsNo inspiring views from the bedrooms, despite the hotel’s proximity to the seaService can be laid-back but overall is very friendly and helpful" - Arati Carroll

Best places to stay, eat, shop and visit in Bandra, Mumbai’s hippest 'hood - SilverKris

"A boutique, 16-room art hotel whose interiors were conceived by a team of fashion and interior designers and inspired by Indian mythology; traditional fabrics and contemporary artworks create a stylised, artsy stay and one of the rooms features a mural painted by an Australian film director." - SilverKris

I had the loveliest stay at Le Sutra , truly a gem of an Indian, mythologically inspired boutique hotel. My room was beautiful, filled with artwork and details that made it feel like stepping into a story. Every corner has an element of culture, symbolism, and creativity woven into it, which I absolutely adored. The breakfast was delicious , fresh and generous, but what truly made my stay special was the warmth of the staff. A heartfelt thank you to especially Anjali and Vishrutha, who were incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout my stay. They made the hotel feel like home away from home. I left feeling rested, inspired, and taken care of. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to be back again on my next Mumbai trip.

4 out of five. Very well located hotel in Bandra. Friendly staff gives a homely & relaxed atmosphere. Good breakfast restaurant which also is a nice relaxed place to work and a turns into a casual bar in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will surely return to this hotel in our next trip back to Mumbai

I stayed at Le Sutra earlier this month for a few days and had a very disappointing experience. On the first day, I ordered their French toast and became extremely ill afterward. Initially, I didn’t assume it was the food, but the hotel closed their breakfast restaurant the following day, which raised concerns that the food may have been spoiled. The staff appeared disengaged and were neither attentive nor courteous. I also noticed a roach in the breakfast buffet area, which was unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. Due to these issues, I canceled the remainder of my stay. It has now been 15 days, and I still have not received my refund. The hotel has not responded to emails or WhatsApp messages. I am in the process of escalating this matter to the appropriate authorities. Based on my experience, I strongly advise against staying at this hotel due to concerns regarding cleanliness, food safety, and poor customer service.

Had the most amazing experience. A small Boutique Hotel, booked by a friend and I wasn’t sure what to expect but I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a beautiful property, located in the heart of Bandra and has the most hospitable team at the helm of things. An amazing Spa experience added to the most comfortable stay in a while !!!|I will be back here every single time I’m traveling to Mumbai !!!

Great place, atmosphere, staff and management. Guest friendly, very well located and a positive contrast to the standardised hotel experience. Highly recommended from a frequent traveller to Mumbai.

I had to cut a reservation short. This place was shockingly not what they claimed. They said they were lgbt-friendly. They were not. As soon as potential visitors came about it was a hard no. The front desk said it was policy even though nothing s posted and they did not explain it upon check in. They also claim they treat all guests as if adults. Yes that’s not true (as discussed above). I cannot believe they call the rooms for advertising for their own services. I was in a nap and they called to see if I would book their spa for the weekend. The spa? I witnessed a group of 4 loudly complaining about it today. I was not tempted to try it. On the plus side, it’s a great location.

I recently stayed at Le Sutra Hotel in Khar, Mumbai, and honestly, it was one of the most unique and memorable hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place wasn’t your typical hotel. The artwork and themes in every corner are absolutely stunning. Each floor and room is inspired by Indian philosophy—mine was the “Krishna” room, and it was beautifully done with paintings, sculptures, and a calming blue color palette. It really felt like staying in a little art gallery. Rooms: My room was super clean, cozy, and well-maintained. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linen fresh, and the lighting was soft and peaceful. They also had all the essentials—tea/coffee maker, mini fridge, and a well-stocked bathroom with quality toiletries. Service: The staff were incredibly polite and attentive. From the front desk to housekeeping, everyone made me feel welcome. I even got a small tour of the art theme behind my room when I asked—such a nice touch! They really take hospitality seriously here. Location: It’s in a perfect spot—just a few minutes away from Bandra and Carter Road. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shopping spots nearby, but the hotel still feels peaceful and quiet. Food: I had breakfast at the in-house restaurant Out of the Blue—delicious! The spread was fresh, and they had good options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I also tried a pasta dish one evening, and it was top-notch.

The hotel was alright but the Spa was HORRIBLE. The masseuse was under experienced and did not have any proper skill. I went in to make my back better and the masseuse hurt it more and the swelling got so much worse, even after telling her the pressue is too much she did not slow down and now i have a bruise on my thigh too. Untrained professionals and extremely tiny spa.
