We had the best meal of our two week trip here. The owner prepares, cooks, serves everything and the care and pride shows through. He explained every item on the menu and how it was made, how long it was cooked and this helped us order things we may not have from just reading the (hand written check board) menu by ourselves. The restaurant is small and popular and doesn't open until 8pm so reservations are recommended. The wine list is fabulous.
We were a party of 6 and so were able to try just about everything on the menu. The horse charcuterie and smoked herring and eel starters were stunning.
For main course, the horse steak was beautifully tender, perfectly cooked and delicious. We also tried the braised pork cheek, caillette (kind of liver meat loaf, slow cooked) and a rabbit dish made with slow cooked rabbit in full pastry. Each dish was perfectly cooked and presented and came out hot with a selection of interesting vegetables and complementing sauces. If I have any complaints it would be that I could have eaten more.
We had one of each dessert, and even desserts I would never have chosen were delicious - I hate rum baba normally, but would have ordered a second portion here as it was light with a perfect combination of sweetness and liquor. We had the best cheese I've ever eaten.
We came on a Thursday evening, arriving at 7.30pm but service didn't start until 8.20pm ish. We stayed around four hours, ate everything on offer, drank four bottles of excellent wine and the bill was just over €400.
