It’s a nice restaurant. We had the “experience” plan on a Sunday evening. This $65-plan is basically a Brazilian rodizio-styled all-you-can-eat. The food is good and tasty. I loved the shrimps and chicken. The beef is tasty but could be less oily. The side dishes are nice. The dessert options are also so good. It’s a good deal for the price. And oh, the drumming is a vibe too. Suggestions: more interior decor that is inspired by Africa would be nice. In addition, some of the tables would need either a table cloth or polishing so that the vibe is as upscale as the place promises. Also, there was an over reliance on chicken. Maybe have more beef or goat meat available too. I wanted more of the shrimps but only got one serving. I really look forward to the promising future of this restaurant. It’s so far the nicest and most unique African restaurant in Montreal.

Brought my friends and family to Le Uptown last week. Great decor; very forest-y. It was quite pricey and the food flavours were a little off. The 3 mini shrimps on a stick for $17 were overcooked and chewy. The salt fish is beyond salty. The grilled fish was burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside. My family member enjoyed the lamb dish but complained about the portion being mostly bones. The rice had zero flavour. The service was interesting and entertaining as it was a young new staff who was funny and innocent. The best part of the meal were the plantain and beignets. I’d only return for a cocktail Lingala and dessert.

The food taste great, but there could be room for improvement to make it authentically Congolese. The atmosphere is amazing, the service was really great, it a lovely set up, with a drum session and face painting that just add to the experience, i would definitely recommend this space, amazing family atmosphere. *edit: the portion are very generous, even for a big eater like myself, and kids 5 and under eat for free, and they also have generous portions

We made a reservation on open table to celebrate my birthday. From the outside the restaurant looked exciting, fun, hip and friendly. We were kindly let in, greeted with a big smile and given the run down for how the “experience” works. We were excited to try the food and hear the music. We were seated and immediately given water. As we were looking around, taking in the vibes, it was nice. Cool music. Looked kind of run down but not too bad. Floors were disgusting and our table extremely wobbly. There were a handful of couples and a large table of guests. We sat there for 20 minutes with a glass of water staring at the drink menu. Not one waitress looked after us. Owners and waiters walked right by quick and not one checked on us or asked us if we would like to order. We weren’t even given a menu! I pulled one up on my phone and we were ready to order. We tried making eye contact several times and that was completely avoided by staff. Eye contact didn’t work so we spoke up and that went unheard, multiple times. It felt like we were absolutely being ignored. Watching how the waitresses worked, I could visibly see other customers annoyed by the lack of care and attention. Shocked, we got up and left. Absolutely insane way to run a business. If we could rate service a zero we would.

Congolese food without too much seasoning, tastes original and healthy. The sauce for the stewing lamb is not strong, but very fragrant and rich texture. It is very filing when come with a full staple food. There are 3 ways to cook African food : grilling, frying and stewing. Stewing is usually the way to prepare African food. Meat is cut into large pieces and stew slowly with different spices. A portion of corn paste or fufu, a portion of stew meat and a portion of soup or frying banana is a more classic meal. Perhaps, all African dishes are like this, and it fits people's perception of the land : simple, mysterious, warm and multiple sensory experience.

Love this place! Very immersive with the music. The food is excellent and the portions are big enough!! Love the cocktails too!

The atmosphere was nice, with pleasant decor and a cozy ambiance, however the noise level was overwhelming making it difficult to have a conversation. The food was a major let down with it being dry and lacked flavor. Given the high prices, paint 202 dollars for 2 people, I expected much better food. Overall, it felt like the meal was not worth the cost at all
