Where to Stay in Paris (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated this small, cozy hostel’s view of Sacré-Coeur and its location surrounded by bars, restaurants, and supermarkets; there’s a French breakfast each morning or you can use the large kitchen to cook, the beds are comfy, rooms are bright and airy, and they offer female-only dorms." - Matthew Kepnes

The staff is very lovely, and it is hard to write this knowing that I feel bad even having to point it out but this place is a MAJOR SCAM. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. We booked the “Superior room”. The only thing it had going for it was the view. 1: Filthy, bedding had hairs, velvet bedding felt disgusting to touch, as if the pillows and throw blankets have never been properly washed. 2: Photos do not match at all, they need to take un retouched recent photos and place them on the website, I know they don’t because no one would ever book this unless they were desperate. 3: Filthy rooms, horrible design, it looks like mid “remodel” gone wrong, bathrooms are completely different and old world. Hairs in the tub, hairs on the bed. Bathroom pipes smell terrible the rooms smell like the drains. Paint and wallpaper peeling, dirty tiles, the back boards of the bed were broken. 4: Location felt unsafe, our uber driver literally told us to be careful as we were getting our bags out. The street its on is populated by what seems to be displaced people getting in fights and up to no good. This one is not their fault but if you are concerned with safety. 5: Here comes the scam. We were given the wrong room with ugly outdated bathroom, then moved to the room allegedly in the photo with the clawfoot bathtub that was not even clean and had hairs in the drain. Windows dont even open and the handles are broken. We saw another room before it, that had dirty walls, it’s like not one room is decent enough. There were bugs on me as my boyfriend was downstairs trying to get a refund for the stay so that we could immediately go to another hotel. They would not give us our money back. It was genuinely a nightmare experience. I feel so bad for the employees who have to deal with this, an absolute shame on the owner of this place. It’s disgusting, not even an american motel would do you this dirty. We have reached out to Delta where we made the reservation to make sure this place is not listed in their suggested offerings. So sorry for anyone who has to work here, it is dismal and the grime and smell is not something I could handle more than once. Again, the staff was very sweet and seemed to understand how dire the situation is at this place.

I stayed at this hostel for a week and had a wonderful experience overall! The location couldn’t be better — right in Montmartre, close to both Anvers and Barbès Rochechouart metro stations, and surrounded by cute cafés and interesting spots like the painters’ square and the stunning Sacré-Cœur. My room was small, but that’s to be expected in Paris. It was cozy, clean, and totally worth the price. The patio was one of my favorite parts — a peaceful place to unwind with a lovely view of Sacré-Cœur. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and the 24/7 reception made check-ins and questions really convenient. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, but I have to give a special shoutout to Nathalia, who checked me in on my first day. She was so kind, gave me great local tips, and even helped me practice my French! The only downside was the thin walls — you can hear a bit of noise from neighboring rooms and showers. Luckily, my stay was quiet overall, and I was usually too tired from exploring to notice much. I’d definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable stay in a fantastic part of Paris!

I had a lovely stay here. Right when I entered I felt welcomed and comfortable. The receptionist Nelson was super helpful and friendly. He always has a smile on his face, is open to chat and can give you all the basic information about Paris as well as the insider tips. The hostel is simple, yet clean and offers everything a humble traveler could need. The kitchen and common area makes it easy to socialize and if you want you can play the guitar, look at the book shelf or just enjoy the cozy athmosphere.

We booked our stay here fairly last minute for a budget friendly 1 night in the city and couldn't believe our luck with this find. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the room we were given had a gorgeous view. The location was very easy for the metro and Gare du Nord so is perfect for short visits. The only small downside was that we were woken by a lot of shops opening their shutters up for the morning, fine for a city break if you want early starts but if you are looking for a lie in then bring some ear plugs! Would definitely recommend and will return.

Within 24 hours of arrival at this hostel, I had developed severe bed bug bites. I had no bites beforehand, and the pattern and location of the bites were fully consistent with nighttime exposure while sleeping. I had to unexpectedly relocate and spend the rest of my trip treating all my belongings. Upon reaching out to the hostel, they denied that the bites came from their room, despite the timing and severity of the bites pointing strongly to my stay here. They only refunded 1 night of my stay, dismissing my concerns over the incident. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again, and I hope the hostel takes this issue seriously for the sake of future guests.

I stayed there in both the 4 beds and the 12 bed dorms. Clearly the 4 one was much more private, clean and overall nice. The common area was great, I could work even at late our there. The staff was simply incredible, shout out to Maika and Fiji, just the sweetest most accommodating ladies ever ! Thank you, you made Paris even better for me.

We are complete newbies with regards to 'hostels' and this could have been a disaster. In preparation, I did pay for a superior double room with private bathroom! The location was excellent, just in the area that we love and so close to Montmartre and basically at the bottom of the Sacre Coeur! |We were early to arrive, but checked in and left our luggage with the lovely girl on reception, then went for a wander.|We returned later and Alex gave us our luggage and offered a couple of different rooms which was great. (I think we're a bit old for a roll top bath in the middle of the room, so we opted for the private bathroom with shower ;)|The hostel is located just at the bottom of Montmartre and the reception is in an open plan area with tables, chairs and comfy seats. There is a drinks machine where all the drinks are free until 10am! There are glasses, cutlery, bottle openers, toaster, microwave, etc for anyone to use. |On the first floor there is a terrace with outdoor seating, swing chair and has a great view of the Sacre Coeur. |There is a small lift to the rooms, so you don't have to take the little wooden spiral staircase, but you do need to see that, it's lovely with all the open beams. |The building has a lovely traditional feel to it. |Our room was small, but comfortable with great views again. A good shower, nice lighting and a comfortable bed! |There was a breakfast served in the morning (included in our booking) which was croissants, bread, jams, orange juice and hot drinks. Small, but enough to get you going and it's all self service. |There are two supermarkets within 10 metres of the hostel where you can buy supplies and G20 has hot food to go, such as chicken, potatoes, etc.|We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we sat on the terrace and had a bottle of wine, chatted to a few guests (hostel vibes we assumed) and had a great evening. |We slept really well, enjoyed the breakfast and checked out with the same lovely girl on reception to continue our holiday. |We definitely recommend and we would book another hostel too as it's so friendly and chilled.

Honestly? Worst hostel I've ever stayed in. No kitchen amenities other than a bar fridge between 40 odd people, beds were uncomfortable, no atmosphere whatsoever, the bathroom door had a full inch gap at the bottom so any time you needed to use it the entire dorm room could hear you doing your business. The staff were nice enough, but that didn't come close to making up for the amenities and services.

Yelp
This trip to Paris, I stayed five nights here and two nights at a large, finely-polished hostel with tons of amenities. The difference is stark in almost every way. However, Le Village has much of what you need and is right across the small street from a Franprix which can supplement most of what Le Village doesn't have. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They do well making you feel at home. While the decor is weathered, they keep it clean. That's essential. This hostel attracts the quieter, more mature crowd of any age. I also loved that it's not right there amongst the crowds of a major train station or maddening tourist area. It's a few blocks from a tourist area just far enough that it's quiet. They don't have laundry facilities but they are a few smaller blocks from one. It gives you the opportunity to interact with locals and see how a local laundromat works. It's been several years since I've used one, but I was surprised at how the technology has advanced, like with super fast drying dryers. If you're looking for a quieter experience, check out Le Village.

Yelp
Le Village is a cool place to stay. It's tucked away in Montmartre but still close to public transportation. The people that worked there were super nice and helpful. They gave us directions, let us store our bags, and had little cards with info on it that we could take with us. Our room was clean and so was our bathroom. They even had shampoo and soap for us to use. The walls are a little thin so you could hear everything and they didn't clear off the patio at 10, but it wasn't too loud to late. All in all it's a great place to stay. I'd definitely recommend it again.

Yelp
Great location in Montmartre about 3min walk away from Sacre Coeur. Super convenient location, easily accessible by train. Rooms were clean and hostel was secure, requiring doorbell and keycard access. They provide directions to all the touristy sights/ locations. There's also towels, toiletries, etc for rent/ sale. Conveniently located next to a grocery store so you can also get stuff from there if needed. I stayed here for 3 nights and had a great experience. Will return again!

Yelp
I *almost* don't want to sing the praises of this place because it is so truly wonderful, in a beautiful neighbourhood, close to everything in Montmarte! $60 for a private room with private bath. Views from 4th floor. Impossibly clean + quiet.

Yelp
Great location. Only a few minutes walk to the metro, and Paris has a great transit system so you can get everywhere. I loved their continental breakfast - the croissants were delicious, I ate so many. Staff was super friendly, especially the guy at night who spoke great English. The lounge was nice. They check bags for free. There's no soap in the bathrooms so bring your own. They rent towels for 1 euro (payment, not a deposit). We got a 4-bed girls dorm with the bathroom in the room, which was nice. We didn't have any problems but if it had been raining (it did sprinkle a little) it might have sucked, cause you have to cross an outside patio.

Yelp
Pros: Super clean, good rates by Paris standards, friendly staff, and a location that is close to three metro stations. I recommend walking to the Absesses station and avoiding the Anvers and Barbes stations which are sketchy day or night. This hostel is located right on the border between a really sketchy neighborhood and a really nice one (Montmarte), and is pretty close to some really nice attractions such as the Sacre Coeur and Moulin Rouge. Cons: I personally did not have the best experience with the staff. I initially wanted to shorten my stay and changed my mind about that as the manager was unavailable for two days (and by then I decided not to change the reservation as it seemed like too long a wait and too great a hassle), but this wasn't effectively communicated from the front desk staff to the hostel manager. As a result, out of a 7 night's stay I was asked to move rooms three times. Once was in the middle of the night while I was already deep asleep so that a couple checking into the hostel could stay in the same room (it says on the website there is no guarantee that groups booking together will share the same room). The staff member who did this was crossing all sorts of boundaries and not acting in line with the hostel's policies- he had given me the wrong room key, so I ended up sleeping in the wrong room and I was asked to wake up in the middle of the night, move all my belongings, and wake up everyone in another room so that the new customers could have things their way. So overall, honestly there were a lot of great things about the hostel and a lot of the other travellers were wonderful to converse with, but the miscommunication, the extreme difficulty in getting a hold of the manager, and the extremely rude behavior of the tall, thin young man with glasses on my last night there really left a terrible taste in my mouth.

Yelp
About the least expensive option around for the budget solo traveler in Paris. Steps from the metro at Annvers, go a block north, then take a right. You'll see a large white "hostel" sign accompanied by a red awning. After hours, you'll need to be buzzed in. So close to Sacre Couer nestled in Montmartre, it is well situated to form a good base of operations. The accommodation are relatively clean, as far as hostels go. Bring all your own essentials, excluding a pillow, sheets, and a blanket. Take special note: There are NO lockers in the rooms. You'll need to get creative with valuables, if so equipped. Otherwise, you are getting a basic spot to sleep, with a good view a place to prepare meals, a rumored WiFi connection, and a lot of friendly like-minded travelers to mingle with. Happy travels!

Yelp
This place sucked. Maybe because it was our first time in a hostel?... But it was in a ghetto area that had trash and poop in the streets. We shared the room with 6 other people and people were coming in and out at all hours of the night, the doors were so damn loud and squeaky, it was impossible to sleep. The lobby played horrible music! It was Christmas time and they were playing screaming loud punk rock and blaring it so loud at early in the morning, it was not pleasant at all! The internet only works in the lobby. But hey it's cheap! Lol. Never again.

Yelp
In my experience, once you've decided to abandon the fancy hotel route and go hostel, you are expected to drop all expectations. The only thing you need your hostel to do is 1) provide clean sheets and a pillow (no towels here, but they do let you 'rent' one for a euro) and 2) the ability to take a number #2 in peace. If that were the baseline, then Le Village passes. They also offer a better than usual breakfast and a fantastic balcony for late night drinking/winding down. Being close to the metro (it's literally down the street) doesn't hurt either. Be forewarned, there are no early checkins, though they do allow you to drop off your bags until your room is ready. Venturing there from the airport goes through certain rough neighborhoods, so I wouldn't recommend arriving too late.

Yelp
Eh. A pretty bad horrible first impression. Montmartre at night is shady as hell. A guy tried to pickpocket me after I walked away and said no and kept trying so I had to yell help. 5 mins later, on a different street, two guys were waiting for me to walk on a street and I could feel them waiting for me, so I turned back right away. Now, for the hostel, they have a very strict 48 cancellation policy. One of the staff was pretty great, and the facilities are adequate. The reason for the two star? I stayed at a hostel in La Marais that was only about 5 euros a night more but everything was significantly better. Super close to two metro stations and a block from the river. This hostel doesn't advertise on hostel world, so consult your guidebook because it is pretty local. The fact that I already want to leave after being here less than a full day warrants a 2 star rating, in my opinion. I'm glad I only have two nights here. I consider myself a pretty savvy traveler and have traveled around the world (and staying in almost exclusively hostels), and this is the first time I didn't feel safe in my area. Summary: take a trip to Montmartre to see Montmartre, but just don't stay in Montmartre because it's a shady area.

Yelp
Spend three days at this Hostel. Location in Montmartre was great. It's literally around the block from the Sacre Coeur. It's also easily accessible by public transportation. We had a private room. It was clean, but tight. The shower was extremely tight! I can't emphasize TIGHT enough. Lol. Variety of people were there from all over the world. The staff was kind and helpful. The elevator was only big enough for maybe one person and their luggage at a time. This hostel also had a cute deck area. There was a kitchen and tables to hang out. It's next door to a bar that is associated with the hostel.

Yelp
Excellent customer friendly place. People at the desk are really helpful to give directions to the city and they'll let you know about the secret little gems around the Monmartre neighborhood. Excellent breakfast, but spotty wi-fi internet. The commute to the central is not so great but then again it's an ideal location for exploring the vibrant Montmartre itself. The rooms are okay - not super clean. It will do you a good job, if you are in the city for a few days and don't want to break your bank by living in a trendy place.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights in a private double. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Pros: Bathroom in room Comfortable mattress and clean sheets Located near two metro stops and sacre-coeur Cons: One of the more expensive hostels we stayed in The room was small Hand held shower

Yelp
I couldn't fault this place at all. The staff are friendly. The breakfast is acceptable. The beds were fine. The lift was a little unreliable but nothing you couldn't climb out of between levels. The price and location were both good too.

Yelp
Just a quick walk from gare du Nord train station. The staff is friendly and the rooms are nice and clean. There are several common areas so you can meet fellow travelers if you want. It's close to several metro stops so you can get around very easily. Free WiFi too. I'd stay here again for sure.
