Lebo's backpackers is unique and one of the best. As always it's the people that make or break an experience and it's know exception at Lebo's. I could see the team here are a close knit group and are here to give their guests the best time. They have showcased to us the resilience of the Soweto township and it's people. Great food, comfy bed, clean rooms and common areas. We had a room with ensuite. Tents and dorm rooms are available. Plenty of in-house activities; biking tours, tuk tuk tours, walks, food tours and cooking classes. The team including guides immersed us in the history of Soweto, showcasing life as it was and imparted the positive developments of the new. We felt very safe while in Soweto, including our 4 night stay at Lebo's. We enjoyed a walk on our own, going to Nelson Mandela's house, Desmond Tutu house, Vilakazi street, and Hector Pieterson museum. Great interaction with Sowetites, welcoming us to their township. Also enjoyed a bike tour , tuk tuk tour and a story telling event including song. Thanks goes to the Lebo team for arranging airport shuttle anfy a driver to take us to a local shopping mall.

If you want an authentic, educational and entertaining Soweto experience, Lebo’s is the place to go! Many tourists come to Soweto on tours in buses and don’t interact with local people, Lebo’s is the genuine way to go! It’s a spacious hostel with cool decorations and lots of social spaces. The food is delicious and made from fresh ingredients grown in their community vegetable garden (which they converted from a rubbish dump!) and is all authentic cuisine made in house by the lovely chef, Dikeledi! That brings me to the best part of this hostel, which is undoubtedly the staff, they are so friendly and go above and beyond to help. Special thanks to Nonhlanhla in reception, Lungile who did our tuk-tuk tour where my son got to play football with the local children (his highlight of the holiday!) and especially to Nthabiseng in the bar who took extra special care of us. If you want a real Soweto experience, skip the tour buses and just come here!

I took the 4 hour bike tour today and can not explain just how amazing the experience was. I was collected from my hotel by the wonderful Issac who graciously shared with me tales of his life living in Soweto, which included being there during the student shootings in 1976. On the tour itself you become immersed in township life, and are welcomed wherever you go. I will absolutely never forget the smiling faces of the beautiful children who high fived us as we cycled past. Thank you Lebo's for all you do for your community, for this humbling and hopeful experience and for sharing your stories with us ❤️

I took the 4 hours bike tour and it was a wonderful way to discover the different facets Soweto, getting really close while feeling very safe thanks to our wonderful guides Yéyé and Brilliant. Being greeted by kids all the way, stopping to shop local food, landmarks, and of course a lot of explanations and stories of Soweto, it felt so fulfilling and enriching!

was a unique experience, we did the tuk tuk tour of Sowero (so touching) and slept in the hostel. All the staff is so kind, the food deliciois and the guides competent and friendly. The common areas are wide and cozy. The double rooms are very well furnished, while the 6 beds dprmitory is more basic.

Staff were phenomenal and made you feel right at home. Great location in Soweto also if you want to avoid the heart of Joburg.

I did the Soweto walking tour yesterday and absolutely loved it. I learnt so much about the Soweto history and culture, and had a delicious lunch. I'd strongly recommend it to anyone visiting Johannesburg!

We used only the bicycle tour service and they could not be nicer and better organized : the bicycles were in very good shape, the tour was customized on our interests, the length of the trip was adjusted to our schedule, the tour guide was very professional, they were flexible enough to allow us to leave our luggage and to allow us to use their kitchen facilities. Great experience indeed. Highly recommended. They even offered food: we are vegan and it was accommodated.
