Guide to Great Smoky Mountains National Park

"There is just one lodge within the park’s boundaries, but you have to hike 5 miles to get there. The rustic cabins of LeConte Lodge are in a stunning setting atop Mount LeConte. The lodge is generally open from mid-March to mid-November, closing during the winter season. And when it’s open, demand for a spot is high; people book early, and there’s a running waitlist." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The LeConte Lodge is exactly what you’d expect for a mountain top experience; quiet, disconnected, communal, and gorgeous. The group dining room for breakfast and dinner was charming and comfortable. The food was perfectly fine for the conditions, served family style so you get to meet other hikers.||Facilities are fine - we stayed in a small cabin (two bunk beds filled 70% of the space), and the group toilets are a nice perk up that high.||Highly recommend.

truly a trip of a lifetime - the shuttle service provided by Erika was great. The views at the top of the mountain were phenomenal. The food was plentiful and hearty. The entire trip was something out of a fairytale. Thanks for a great experience!!! Definitely recommending to everyone. Thank you Danielle, Maggie, and Erika for your efforts into making this a great trip.

LeConte Lodge is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. After a strenuous hike, we arrived to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The check-in process was smooth, and the afternoon drink service was a lovely touch—lemonade, coffee, hot chocolate, and even tea on request made for a comforting welcome. The lodge was cozy and quiet, even during a very rainy stay. (At one point, the stairs looked more like a stream—but it all added to the adventure.) Despite the weather, the staff stayed upbeat and friendly. Though I’d heard they were slightly understaffed, it never showed—they were helpful and genuinely happy to chat. Dinner is served family-style with assigned tables, which led to some great conversation with fellow guests. The food was hearty and satisfying. The room was warm and comfortable overnight, and the shared bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. Breakfast the next morning was the only part that felt a little underwhelming—biscuits and grits didn’t quite match the standard of dinner, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. We picked up our sack lunches and headed down the mountain already talking about our next trip. Highly recommend—it’s a rustic, communal, and truly special mountaintop getaway.

I was a little pissed when we got there. We drove 4 hours and check in was at 3pm, we got there at 8:40 pm our room was still getting cleaned and we had to stand in the hall for 10 mins with language in hand till they finished. The location was great, plenty of restaurants and stores near by. The beds were good, the tub was small and there was no faucet so could only take a shower. And there was stink bugs everywhere!!!!

Place looks cozy with stunning views. Didn’t stay the night there, but used the public restrooms and walked around to watch the llamas relaxing. They use them to bring supplies up as the only way to arrive here is through hiking trails.

Took a challenging 8 mile hike up the mountain with a group of friends. Stayed overnight in a rustic cabin with some squeaky bunk beds, but I suppose that is part of the charm. The food was really good and the attendants were really nice.

Great, rustic experience… If you’re looking for a place to sleep at the end of the trail… This place is it but only if you make your reservations a year in advance… Even if you’re just stopping in, these folks are very kind and hospitable… Be sure to get your I Hiked-It T-shirt!!

Be careful with a trip to Leconte Lodge, like everyone I was excited to hike Mount Leconte, and stay in the rustic backcountry cabin, I was thinking after a long hike, I would enjoy a hot meal, a clean bed, stars, peace, quiet like other back country lodges in the area This is not a quiet place, it is super busy and unfortunately. I experienced bed bugs. I sent pictures of the bed bug welts to management, and their response was I could have sent them pictures from anyone or anywhere, ( smart phones provide time date and location of all photos......) Other Details Leconte lodge is book to capacity each night with focus on large groups that take over a large section of the small property During the day, many many hikers, visit Leconte lodge via alum trail, people hang out, have lunch, etc It is a continual flow all day The lodge runs on a strict list of rules so they can manage the very small dining room/meeting space the is available at this time, so you may or may not get a positive helpful response to questions or needs, manager on duty anxious, and likes to draw attention to situations.
