The Lee Chiang is a small, family style 3 star hotel located centrally in an extremely quiet part of the old town just behind the Wat Phra Singh temple in a small backstreet. The front of the hotel is attractive with water features, plants & orchids & a very comfortable elevated terrace. Crucially, there is a laundry just a few metres down the street (40 baht/kilo of clothes, which come back smelling of flowers!) & a laundromat nearby.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are perfectly adequate & all have air conditioning & are cleaned daily. The beds in particular were very comfortable (& better than a 5 star hotel we stayed in for a couple of nights at great expense in Bangkok). Breakfast consists of a continental breakfast, a Thai dish that changes daily, fresh fruit, yoghurt & a choice of eggs. Really good & simple.
The staff are always smiling, friendly & keen to help, while the owner was very welcoming & a goldmine of information. We relied on him every day to organise a Grab car or taxi with driver for wherever we wanted to go, & then again in the evening to go out to eat. The day rate for a car with driver varied from 1000 to 1600 baht (£22 to £35) depending upon distance for the whole day! And there are plenty of places to visit. Hiring a Grab car is surprisingly slightly cheaper than a tuk-tuk, but less fun. Our air conditioning would be turned on for us 1 hour before we got back in the afternoons! And the WiFi worked just fine.
We stayed for 2 weeks & loved it, despite the heat which we found draining (March to May is the hot season). All in all, the Lee Chiang is the perfect 3 star hotel: very comfortable & clean, central & completely quiet location, good breakfasts, extremely friendly & helpful owner & staff, overall great value. We’ll be back in October.
