Lee Keung Kee North Point Egg Waffles

Gets busy at certain time and a line forms as signage has this place as Michelin rated. Ordering queue starts from the right hand side (as per signage) but etiquette lacks in places like this - I say this because someone pushed in from the left whilst we were waiting to order. Luckily the lady at the store saw us first and took our order. Constantly making fresh batches of the egg waffles. Which is super popular at this store. Absolutely loved the flavour and texture of this egg waffle, crunchy on the outside and pretty much mochi texture on the inside. Not too sweet and definitely not an eggy flavour - which I personally love and prefer! I personally would recommend it! Hype was worth it!

Who would have expected such a simple snack in the streets of Hong Kong would end up in the Michelin Street food recommended guide? I have tried a lot of egg waffles before in Hong Kong and decided to give this a try as well, and true enough it really does stand out from the others that I have tried. I felt that the waffle tends to be slightly thinner and much more crispy than the others, and the fragrance of the egg waffle smell is quite prominent it lingers throughout eating and you even think of it after finishing the waffles. I have to say the way the egg waffles are made are really local and traditional, and this shop has maintained the standard and principle to keep to the original flavour only and not expanded to variety of flavours. The price of it also seems to be slightly cheaper than the others. I can only say you will not be able to resist trying it when you walk past the shop and you get the whiff of the smell and you look at the queue. It's definitely a queue because the egg waffles are freshly made to order but the queue is not crazy long that you have to wait for long to get one. Light, crispy and not sweet. Highly recommended.

Walked by this spot and caught a whiff and immediately knew I had to line up. Such a yummy afternoon snack, very crispy but also soft and buttery and satisfying. Line moves fast even though there was only one guy running the place when I was there. Definitely gotta try an egg waffle before you leave HK. Hou Mei!

There’s something with the flour mixture that just make this 雞旦仔much better than the competition. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. And the taste is balanced, nothing overly sweet. It’s more expensive than most but it’s worth it and you can taste the difference. Sometimes, it even make the long queue worth it. Just sometimes

I visited this place because of the waffles' lovely smell while crossing the street. Super delicious and generous snack!

Just so we're clear, this is pretty much a street-food thing that's commonly found throughout Asia and Southeast Asia. If you're in the area you can pop by to try, but it's really not necessary to make a special trip for it. Having said that, the 蛋仔 here is quite decent: nicely crisp on the outside, not oily, not too sweet, light-enough texture. And I believe they add pandan essence/extract to the batter (the wife thinks it's vanilla essence). Interesting that only the plain version (no filling) is sold here, which is a bit sad because I have tried some really fancy ones in other countries. As of April 2024, price is 28hkd for 1 waffle or 1 蛋仔, quite pricey for a snack. I'm not sure if this is a HK cost-of-living issue, but I'm happy to have tried it, although I doubt it's something I will eat everyday.

Beautifully thin and crispy egg waffle with an emanating fragrance which entices you into the line. It’s very hard to walk past without having the delicious smell just waft into your nose. The store is very traditional and local given its appearance. Additionally, there is only the original flavour available unlike other egg waffle stores which sell flavoured waffles eg. matcha or chocolate chip. There is also often a line when I pass by. Highly recommend as a filling snack. Price is $28 HKD for 1.

Out of the three different gai dan jai I tried during my Hong Kong trip, Lee Keung Kee's was easily my favorite! Everything about their eggette was PERFECT, and it was definitely worth the short line. With a heavenly eggy and vanilla flavor, it was beautifully and evenly golden brown, light and crisp on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside, and not too sweet. The worker had all four waffle irons going at the same time, and it was fun to watch him make them as we waited. He efficiently took orders and payments (cash or Octopus card) in between pouring the batter and flipping the irons. The gai dan jai cost 28 HKD (3.60 USD). To compare, in the Bay Area, California, we pay double that price for a mediocre eggette. I'd highly recommend this spot!

North point egg waffles now located in TST. The name must be popular as there is a lengthy lineup. The service is non existent. They go through the actions and serve up your good. The product... geez. There is definitely no taste. The crunch yes but no chew. No golden fluffiness that these should spoil your mouths with as they fill your nasal cavity with the vanilla fragrances with each bite but none here. Quite disappointed with the claim to fame they claim... Pass and save your stomach quota for better offerings

Heard rave reviews about these egg waffles from my cousin but wasn't a huge fan. They're much crispier than their US counterparts for sure but I didn't like how the inside was much pretty much hollow and didn't have much substance. Flavor was ok. They're made to order so had to wait a while in line even though there weren't that many people ahead of us.

I stumbled upon this place during a night time stroll down Nathan Road to Tsim Sha Tsui. There was a short line, and I was in the mood for some gai daan jai. Seems like we hit a popular spot. A customer joined in line behind us, and said to her friend "this is the OG, everything else is shit!" Well, I'm not an expert in gai daan jai, but these were pretty damn good. The lady who makes them is extremely nice and friendly. You can pay via cash or Octopus Card. This is strictly takeaway.

I found this hidden treasure from social media and it turned out to be a very pleasant experience. My son loved them so much!

This is coming from a non-Asian Asian, so maybe I don't know what I'm taking about. But I just don't get what the hype is about Egg Waffles in Hong Kong. There were a few other people around me enjoying their egg waffles. But I just didn't understand. Maybe I was expecting a life changing event when I ate it. But after eating it, I thought to myself, where's the Nutella or ice cream to make these plain egg waffles stand out. There's just way too many bakery's and sweets being served in HK to settle for this. Even one of those good pound cakes downstairs in the MTR stations are more satisfying in my opinion. So while this sweet treat isn't bad, it just wasn't great.

Always my go to egg waffle stand when I'm in HK! Literally opened since more than a decade ago and still standing and always with a line! Unfortunately the states just doesn't offer this type of airy and crispy egg waffles! I can always eat two batches every time i come here. The regular waffles are good too. Curry fish ball was just okay.

LKK came recommended by a good friend in HK. Since I had recently had Mammy's 鷄蛋仔(which I had thought was good) LKK was even better. A short walk from the MTR station, this little stand is located on the corner of the street. We lucked out and only had 2 people in front but we arko ended up waiting close to 15 mins before we got our order. Keep in mind everything is made to order and be sure to enjoy it hot. What set LKK's 鷄蛋仔 apart from Mammy's was how crispy it was and reason why I prefer it here. Definitely worth the effort to make the trek out to North Point and one can easily see and taste that not all 鷄蛋仔 are alike.

#FlashbackFriday - Remembering Hong Kong... Egg puffs (a.k.a. egg waffles, eggettes, puffles, gai daan jai, and a few other names) are popular Hong Kong street snacks so what better place to have them than in Hong Kong itself! LKK specializes in such so I had it bookmarked before our trip. It was one of the many stops along Nathan Road that the family agreed to check out. A block away from the Jordan MTR station, it was easy to spot this hole-in-the-wall because of (1) the line, and (2) the eggy scent that filled the Kowloon air. We stood in line, waited for our turn, watched the vendor perform the magic, and voila! There they were, those honeycomb-like, oval-shaped balls connected by a layer of thin baked batter and folded neatly to fit the small paper bag. We each pulled an egg puff so we can all try them at the same time. It had a nice crispy exterior and an almost-hollow interior with enough cake-like texture to provide a delightful contrast. The whole thing was so light... perfect as a snack! And the aroma... Woot! It looked good and it smelled good. But did it taste good? Unfortunately, no. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't good either. It was so plain, there was just a very slight hint of sweetness in it. It was a big letdown after all the build up that just happened. It was meant to be eaten as it is, but in all honesty, where's a waffle syrup when you need one? T4 makes better egg puffs than this...

Where, oh, where are you? The best of the best: Egg Waffle aka Eggettes. $22 HKD ~ $3.03 USD. Tina's Travel and Tabloid - Located on Nathan Road about a two minute walk from the Jordan MTR Station. - North Point Waffle sign covered. Missed it, but look for a cart filled with magazine like cut outs of famous people with waffles. - Soft doughy on the inside and crunchy on the outside! - Why don't we have this in the US? (Easily Accessible!) Hahah, I'm joking.. I know where they sell it. Just not as great! - Popular joint/cart that people stop by for from all around. Line can get long, but they go through it so quickly!

Eh, if this was home, I'd be giving a higher rating but since this is HK, where 雞蛋仔was invented... My cousin recommended this place and I visited one evening after dinner. It was a short line, which was good and the turnover is quick. The 蛋仔 isn't quite my style. While it's very crispy on the outside, there's very little substance on the inside. I'd prefer one that's a little more substantive and soft on the inside. The positive was that the 蛋仔 wasn't too sweet. For $22 HKD, the offering is actually rather pricey. I can get a reasonable decent egg waffle (and one that is more to my liking) for about $10 HKD in Mong Kok.

Stopped by for a dessert treat and around 20:30 on a Tuesday. There were about 5 to 10 other the people waiting around for their order, but the line moves very fast. We wanted the classic egg waffle, and it was easy to point to the photo. The total cost was HK $22. This is a great treat to share and easy to eat while walking around. Granted, I'm a tourist, so I don't know how it compares to other is waffles, but it certainly tasted good, and I take the crowds to be a positive sign. It was surprisingly satisfying dessert!

I was walking on the street and this girls was giving an interview and kind of waved me over. I ended up getting a complementary waffle for an interview! The line was not long because it was raining but I was told that the line can get long, you can see them make the waffles right in front of you so you get hot crunchy on then outside and soft but empty on the inside waffles for 22khd. The smell is irresistible.

This is still my favorite egg puffs! Tried Mammy pancake and it doesn't compare. I'm glad they have the TST location as it's a lot closer than going to North Point. We always have to come here when we're in HK. Came here after dinner and it was sold out (the person in front got the last one!so come early :( Definitely add this to list!

Hong Kong egg waffle is a very popular street food in Hong Kong. I am not sure the origin of the egg waffle but waffle is definitely not part of the Chinese culinary invention. The Chinese name for egg waffle literally means tiny chicken eggs. The sheet of waffle looks like a bunch of tiny eggs connected together. Back in the old days street food hawkers would be pushing their carts and selling egg waffle on the sidewalks but now all the street food vendors sell from shops. Lee Keung Kee is a famous shop for egg waffles and have several locations in HK. What they serve is the traditional plain style, no chocolate chips, no dipping sauce, no green tea or whatsoever. It is the pure original egg waffle. The proper way to eat the egg waffle is not to fold it up and starting taking bites like one would eat a sandwich. One should pull one "egg" at a time to eat and perhaps share a couple or three with your friends. What I did like about the LKK egg waffle: - It had a hint of coconut flavor - It was super crispy from the time it came out of the waffle iron and was still crispy after 15 or 20 min, What I did not like about the LKK egg waffle: - The inside may be except a couple of the eggs was mostly air. The inside of each egg should be slightly chewy, perhaps more batter was needed. - The eggs around the center were darker than those on the outside, perhaps the iron was not heated up evenly. BTW, if you want to make HK egg waffle at home after leaving HK, Amazon sells electric HK egg waffle iron and if you can make one as good as LKK, please send me your recipe.

I don't get the hype at all for this egg waffles. The line is long and slow moving and the egg waffle was crazy crispy with no filling in the eggy part. I ended up throwing it away after a few bites. Lee Keung Kee is a total hole in the wall. The closest MTR station is Jordan off the Tseun Wan line. You can find it easily once you get close to it because the line is crazy long. They only have 7 waffle pans so be prepared to wait. The best egg waffle I had was actually at this no-name place on the first floor of the Kwai Chung Plaza, directly off of the Kwai Fong MTR stop.

Came for the eggettes, they were fast and cheap. Didn't go for any flavored options and not sure if they even had any. But it was so good, warm and not soggy. Definitely glad I tried them but I would recommend getting some flavor inside next time like chocolate or red bean. But again, not sure if they have flavored options there.

Was recommended to try this place for some eggettes. definitely did not disappoint as they were crunchy on the outside, light and custardy on the inside. there was a short line, but it moves quick. that said, you really can't go too wrong with eggettes anywhere in hong kong, as long as they are fresh and hot. I don't think I would make a special trip to come here, but if you are in the area, it's definitely worth a try.

Please don't virtually sentence me to death by stoning. These taste like a crunchy waffle. I don't understand the big hype. Simple pancake/waffle batter cooked until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a hot iron. Mine was ok, but nothing to write home about. To me this was on the pricey side for such a simple street food at $3 or $4 I think? You would be able to find this in Taiwan for $1. This is a pass for me.

Mini egg waffle puffs! How can you not eat this thing, it's so good! There is something to be said about the deep satisfaction one can in have ripping a piece of puff and plopping it into your mouth. The butter and juices just seem to explode at first bite. A must try, if you are a HK tourist. Although these little things are super good, these mini egg waffle shops are a dime a dozen in HK, especially in TST. In my view, there isn't much difference between egg puffs from one shop to another. If you can't stand the line at LKK, there are many more in TST with less fanfare. Overall great, but not the only party in town.

The eggettes are freshly made and delish. Light, crispy crust w/ an airy middle. Nice, light snack. Hubs brought me some fish balls and they were super salty. Had to chug a lot of water after. That's how salty it was. The texture was firm and chewy though so it was just the salt content that bothered me.

Egg Waffles!!! One of the most popular Hong Kong desserts/pastries. I am very surprised this location did not have a Yelp. It is very popular location but it is a hole in the wall joint. They only serve the Egg Waffle after 11:30 am. Constant flow of people all day when they start serving. HKD only! Egg Waffle - 22 HKD - Pockets of fluffy waffles in the shaped in little eggs. Perfectly sweet. The thin crispies around the eggs are my favorite. Comes out piping hot, fresh off the waffle iron. Huge portion. Great to walk and snack on.

The moment I started exploring HK for snacks, I knew I had to look up places for egg waffles (egg puffs). This is one of the more popular food stand for egg puffs. As I walked down Nathan Road to find this place, I can see that there was a long ling with many people queuing for egg puffs. I can also smell the delicious cooking of the egg puffs. There was also other snacks available, but they are known for their egg puffs. The egg puffs are cooked as you ordered, and is really fresh, hot, and crispy. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside just heaven on earth for your taste buds. I would say these were definitely great egg puffs. Many pictures of HK celebrities eating their egg puffs are posted. In my opinion though you won't go wrong with their egg waffles. I have been here a few times already for their egg puffs, and the wait isn't too long. It costed $20 HKD and is about $2.50 USD, so may be a bit more but definitely worth it. Location: very busy on Nathan Road, and you may have to wait in line most of the time, but it is very fast. food stand and the service was good. Awesome egg puffs in HK, and I personally love all egg puffs in HK, and these are just great as well! HK egg puffs are to die for!

If you think mini egg waffles aren't your thing, then you obviously haven't had LKK's. The little shop stand is located on Nathan Road, a street light away from the Jordan MTR D Exit. The crispy and thin exterior with a chewy, warm, and soft interior is worth the 20 HKD, short line, and occasional grogginess of the lady workers. LKK's egg waffles are one of the must eats in Hong Kong. Trust me on this.

Even though it's been over a year since I've last been, I knew I was getting close when I saw a bunch of people carrying egg waffles walk past me. ~yay for context clues!~ This stand is really easy to miss if you've never been because it's literally nestled between shops, but there's typically always a line so you can identify (don't worry, it moves fast!) There aren't many places that sell these egg waffles anymore (WHYYYY????!!!11), so I honestly don't think there's much competition around here, but they are definitely a lot better than the ones I've had in the US. They make it crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, a perfect steet snack that won't leave you feeling gross or greasy. Although they've hiked the price to 18HK dollars, it's really still affordable (at least that's my mindset being from the states.) If you've never had these before, the "egg waffles" really just taste like waffles, but super convenient, no mess, and fun to pull apart and nom on. Haven't tried anything else from this stand, but we'll definitely be back because who knows how long it will be until I can get my hands on this again! :( :(

LKK is probably the most popular egg waffles place in Hong Kong. They have at least five or so branches, with the main one at North Point. This review is the one located near Jordan Station. It's a small stall that usually generates a large lineup, but if you go here after the evening rush there's usually no lineup. I got lucky and came here at around 10pm on a weekday, and indeed there was no lineup. Ordering a simple egg waffle, I had pretty high expectations considering the hype of this place, plus the fact I've had some fantastic egg waffles across the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, I found the egg waffles in this place to be...just okay. It certainly wasn't bad tasting or anything, but nothing really stood out compared to the other egg waffles I've had. It has the same buttery taste as other places, they make it fresh, and it's a very affordable snack. I also heard that the original branch at North Point is better. Perhaps give that place a shot instead. If you've never tried egg waffles, then definitely come here and order one, since you get the no frills kind with the original taste. However if you've been accustomed to egg waffles...I'd probably skip this place.

If you come during the afternoon you will have to wait in line... a long line. And that's the usual at this place, since a lot of stars come here to have the Gai Dan Zai (egg waffles), waffle with honey peanut butter, and other small snacks like fish balls etc. It's truly nice to see an old small traditional business still flourishing. People usually come here for the Gai Dan Zais, I came for everything. 18HKD for that is pretty expensive if you consider how cheap these things used to be years ago. But still you should come and experience it yourself.

While refueling on free wi-fi at Starbucks, I made small talk with 2 school-aged girls that were sharing a table with me. I was feeling peckish (what's new?) so I asked them what they would recommend for a typical Hong Kong snack. One of the girls suggested I go for one of the most popular HK street snacks-- "gai-don-jai" (eggette waffles). As soon as she mentioned it, her friend's eyes got wide as she exclaimed, "Go to LKK! The gai-don-jai there are AMAZINGGG." There was just something about the way that she said "amazing," that convinced me to check it out. They were both nice enough to look up the address for me and tell me how to get there. 178 Nathan Road. (I will remember that address forever!) I knew I was in the right place because the eggy/sweet/vanilla aroma was getting stronger as I walked closer! Instant drooling! There was a fast moving line outside, and I was able to quickly peer into the tiny shop to see the rows of waffle molds with fresh waffles being made on the spot. I eagerly handed over $15 HKD, and received my fresh, piping hot eggette waffle. I know they're best when eaten right away, but I couldn't help but take a few selfies with it first! They were subtly crispy on the outside, semi-hollow, soft and fluffy on the inside, and held together by the most delicate crunchy crust. The taste was eggy and slightly sweet-- perfect! So good, that I will go on record and say that these are the best "gai-don-jai" that I've ever had. I'm so surprised the ratings here are so low... CNN also seems to agree they're one of the best! To the most delicious egg puffs in the world, Why must you remain in Hong Kong? I know you love the hubbub of Nathan Road, in your easy-to-miss stall at LKK, but I would totally get you a passport if you would travel here to the USA. People always tell me that it's not the outside that counts but you, my friend, are perfect. Super crispy on the outside, delightfully chewy on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness. It's no wonder that there's so many pictures of movie stars and other celebrities paying homage to you. You are worth every one of those $18 HKD, especially considering how those inferior imitations to you are now going for $12-16 HKD. Please don't leave me drooling for the next 3-4 years. Easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for as you are walking down Nathan Road. My mom had received this place as a recommendation from an uncle so we sought it out. The place is a hole in the wall stall covered in photos of the HK celebs with the owner...oddly this makes the store blend in more than it stands out. Not normally a huge egg waffle fan but it was a really nice treat. The waffle was fresh and had a hint of sweetness to it. The waffle had really good chew (ohhhh the chew) and it was substantial; From the pics you will see its a huge waffle folded in half and its about the size of 2 - 3 Eggos combined. We also go the curried fish balls. Nice treat but I don't see how the 2 dishes would be a natural pairing. Maybe its a Hong Kong street food thing. Regardless worth a stop because everyone ends up walking up and down Nathan Road anyways.

The best curry fish balls I have ever had. Coming from the United States, it's really hard to find something as good and well made as this. It's certainly something new for me, adding satay sauce to the curry, and it's genius. What I love the most is the bounce and sweetness in the fish balls when you bite into it.

It's madness how long you have to wait for a puffle...or are they called HK waffles??? This is a little cart on a busy street and to get one of the famous HK waffles my local friend was highly recommending we stop by. Unfortunately when we arrived, we had to wait in a line that wrapped around the building. I'd say we waited about 20 minutes before we were able to order ours. I suppose that's how you know you're going to get one freshly made. You can see the intense assembly line of waffle makers and workers pouring batter into the sizzling molds. I thought the waffles were good, but I question whether it's worth the wait. I'd recommend getting this if the line is short, so maybe try to come right when it opens.

Super fresh and tasty egg waffles! Equally crispy and fluffy! Everyone around was also earing curry fishcakes, so I'd definitely give those a try next time. You'll really have to push your way to the front and get a number after you pay!

I was here during Chinese New Year earlier in 2017. This is a standard egg waffle stand that you can find in various places around Hong Kong. Normal egg waffle flavor.

My friends and I were walking along Nathan Road and chanced upon LKK. Seems like a really popular egg puff pancake place since it has pictures of celebrities plastered all over the shop. The queue was fairly short so we decided to try one. In less than 10mins, we got ours. And it was pretty good! I've had my fare share of bad egg puffs pancake. A good one should not only taste good but the exterior would be crispy with a fluffy interior. That means that the amount of dough mixture poured in to cook has to be just right to ensure the crisp but yet thick enough to have some fluff. I have to say we were pretty lucky cos on the way back, the queue to buy got really long!

This is one of the most famous egg waffle carts that I know of. There's been plenty of places in America that started selling egg waffles, but I haven't found a place like this one. I prefer the crispy, hollow egg waffles here over the other dense, heavy ones I've tried so far. If they had condensed milk to dip this in, it would be perfect. The pork dumplings and fish balls are good here too!

Super convenient and easy to find. Just follow your nose as you get closer. It was tasty but cooked a bit too long. The inside wasn't as gooey as I prefer.

The eggettes here are crispier and less eggy. Line gets long fast but they give you a beeper that vibrates when your order is ready. They actually serve bfast before 11 then eggettes start at 11pm. They have curry fish balls too. Not my particular favorite in texture of the eggettes but more for those who like it crispier.

Always a crowd at this location. Smells great and there're choices for filling for their bo lo buns but I came for their egg tarts which just came out from the ovens.

We came here at 12pm during a weekday and it was closed. There was no sign or anything and a few other people came confused as well. I decided to wait a few minutes and someone finally came and opened the place up at roughly 1215p. We were first in line and was told it will be a few minutes as they are just opening. We were handed out numbers and I waited maybe 10 more minutes for my eggettes. Honestly, this was nothing special. For such a hyped up spot this place was disappointing. Luckily for me, I did not have to wait in long lines. Don't get me wrong...it was still good, but nothing memorable.

I love the eggettes here. They are consistently crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I also love that the batter isn't too thick and it's not too sweet. I usually bring visitors here. I just recently tried their waffle too and also loved it. I was expecting it to be super sweet because of all of the stuff that's sandwiched inside (butter, condensed milk, sugar, and peanut butter) but it was actually just perfect. The line is usually pretty long with lots of tourists, but I think it's worth the wait. Also, they are on the expensive side for eggettes, coming in at $15, but again I think it's worth it.

I grew up on these egg waffle snacks in Queens, sadly these have all disappeared as of about 10-12 years ago and there are only a handful of stands left in Chinatown in Manhattan. When I found out my sister's friend/tour guide was taking us to a spot where we could get these, I reverted back to my chubby adolescence. These are the kind that come in one large waffle where you pull the "eggs" apart. I'm used to the individual ones being separated, but gosh these were really freakin' good and moist with a crunch to it. We also grabbed the fish balls which were pretty decent. It's literally a little stand/opening that I totally would've walked right by if this wasn't the destination.
