On the Grid : Lee's Doughnuts

"Others have tried to copy and steal their recipes and techniques time and time again, but Lee’s Donuts has never been matched. One of the originals on Granville Island, this wonderful family-run shop is one of Vancouver’s best places, period. Peek into the shop window early in the morning to watch 33-year veteran, Alvin, hand roll, cut, and dip every donut. They cannot count the infinite amount of donuts they have made since 1979 because each batch is made-to-order; and it’s never been about the numbers, but about doing it well. Regulars know the daily schedule and buy out the day’s first batch of donuts, freshly glazed, before they have even left the cooling racks. The classic honey-glazed is without compare." - Arithmetic Creative

Lee’s Donuts is a Vancouver classic and totally worth the hype. The line was long when we arrived (wrapped around the building!) but it moved surprisingly fast. We tried a variety of their glazed donuts, including the famous Honey Dip, jelly donut, cookie monster and maple donut. Everything was super fresh, moist, and just the right amount of sweet. You can really taste the difference in quality. This was our second visit in four years, and both times the donuts have been consistently delicious. A must-stop if you’re visiting Granville Island!

Google
Yummy & fresh donuts. I got the butter crunch, vanilla curd, and honey dip as recommended by the employee and enjoyed them all. Only downside was they came in a plain old paper bag - they had just glazed the honey dip so it made quite the mess… wish we got a box but you probably have to buy more to achieve that luxury lol. The logo & graphics of the business are super cute & memorable!

First time here& continuing my food tour of the city through Granville Island. I’m not a fan of cake donuts, but was pleasantly surprised at these donuts. The cake donuts were not overly dry & perfect for splitting between 3 people as a dessert tasting. We split the raspberry jelly donut which wasn’t overly sweet. We came at a good time on the weekend & didn’t have to wait very long in line. Per my cousin (who lives here) it is quite busy in the morning when they open up due to the fact that they have more varieties & the freshness of them. They have a big variety & I recommend trying them.

Google
A must stop! Absolutely delicious cake donuts worth the wait in line and braving the crowds at the public market. The line moves quickly and the staff is very friendly. Donuts are a generous size and filling. Bavarian cream was fantastic and Lee’s does not skimp on the filling. You’ll be sorry if you visit Granville Island and don’t have Lee’s!

Google
Im a big sweets lover! Specifically donuts. This was suppose to be a cinnamon churro cake donut. It wasn’t good. Lacks flavor, the texture isn’t good. Dry. Took one bite and threw it out. Tim’s is better.. disappointing!

Google
Vancouver classic for a reason. I stopped by Lee’s Donuts inside the vibrant Granville Island Public Market, and the experience was delightful overall. Their honey-glazed classic is absolutely worth it—soft, pillowy, and just the right level of sweetness. Waiting in line was quick (worth it for that warm donut), and I could even see them preparing the goodies behind the counter—love seeing that freshness in action!

Google
Got a combo of 3 for $10. Soft and just right in texture, generously filled, with a perfect level of sweetness. The glaze and the dough are both delicious. Although the line is long, it moves quickly and is absolutely worth it.

Google
Lee's Donut Shop in Granville is a must-visit whenever I’m in Vancouver and this was my third visit. The donuts are always fresh, and there's an enormous selection to choose from..with prices that are reasonable. I've tried several varieties during my recent visits and the raspberry fritter and the peanut donut are still my favorites! The service is quick, whether it’s busy or not, but I’ve noticed that the smiles aren’t always as present as the donut shop’s logo. customer service is pretty standard, but I would still return. It’s definitely a must for tourists!

Yelp
I am not exaggerating when I say this was the BEST donut I've ever had in my entire life. I can't wait to come back to BC just to try Lee's Donuts again. They were fresh, affordable and had so many options to choose from. The original sugared donut was my favourite! So sweet and fluffy. I couldn't get over how FRESH they all kept.

Yelp
Needed lots of jelly donuts for Chanukah and Lees didn't let us down. We picked them up at the Steveston location where the staff were very helpful around helping me place an online order. They were fresh and tasty . Not too sweet ! They were enjoyed by everyone at our table !

Yelp
When I was doing my itinerary planning of Vancouver, I saw a lot of recommendations for Lee's Donuts, and of course I had to try it. Since we were at the Granville Island Public Market, this was the perfect opportunity to get it. Now, we came on a Saturday, and the line was insanely long! Since we were already there, I decided that I might as well do it. Fortunately, the line moves pretty quickly so don't be intimated if the line happens to be long! You'll get up to the front pretty quickly. I ended up ordering one honey dip and one blueberry filled. One thing I do have to mention is that I wish they had put up a menu or a list of donuts they had somewhere outside facing the line because I was stumbling over the options once I got to the front. The donuts were good and fluffy, but they weren't spectacular by any means. Just your regular ol' solid donut. I will say, I do prefer the honey dip. The blueberry filled one was a little too messy and hard to eat. I also preferred the honey flavor as opposed to the tartness of the blueberry. Lee's Donuts is a good donut place, but it's not "out-of-this-world" good. Definitely overhyped, but if you're craving a donut, it's the place for you.

Yelp
Came to Vancouver for a vacation and Lee's Donuts was one of the highest recommended places to visit. Lines could get long but if you arrive in the morning the wait isn't long at all. There are so many flavor and cake options. I ordered the pumpkin cheesecake donut and was very happy with my choice! The cake and frosting were amazing. I'm so glad it was recommended to me, if you're nearby check it out!

Yelp
Lee's and Honey Doughnuts are my two favorite donut shops in Vancouver. I'm a sucker for a good traditional donut, and Lee's honey glazed can hold its own against any I've ever had! It's definitely a rather filling donut, compared to an airy, pillowy donut like Krispy Kreme. The other flavors, especially the filled kinds, are also good, but I never find myself gravitating to any other flavor as much as I do the original. There used to be a crazy line every time, before it expanded to so many more locations, but even then I thought it was worth the wait!
google avatar

Yelp
We heard about Lee's Donuts and since there was only a line of two people we decided to try one. We were surprised the line was so short but it was late afternoon. Of course trying to decide on one out of the many flavors on display was hard. We decided to keep it simple and chose the Honey Dip since it was the one they were well known for. This glazed donut was sweet but not overly so and soft.

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because these donuts are apparently an institution and I'm glad I tried them. --- --- --- I was told that when visiting Granville Island Market, the one thing I absolutely had to try were the donuts from Lee's. There were a million options, all of which looked great, so we just went with two of the most popular, which were noted on the menu: The Honey Dip and the Bavarian Cream Filled. Both were high quality, enjoyable donuts. I wouldn't label them amazing, but I think they could have been if I'd had the ability to warm them up a bit. I shoveled these down as we walked through the market and would love to stop by a Lee's again if I ever find myself in Vancouver. Do they have the "Hot Donuts Now" sign like Krispy Kreme? If so, I'm sold.

Yelp
FOOD - Dutch crumb, chocolate-glazed sprinkles, strawberry-glazed sprinkles, and coconut donut: they were all good. 4/5 SERVICE: the line was out the door but it moved fast. 4/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: nothing special but good donuts for a decent price. If the line is out the door, I wouldn't wait in it again.

Yelp
Great addition to any get together or party! Our friend brought these to our BBQ party and it was a hit. So many different flavors, there was something for everyone.

Yelp
Get the one without any toppings or sugar coated. Get the one without any toppings or sugar coated. Get the one without any toppings or sugar coated. It's very important so I repeat this three times. The donuts are soft and fluffy, it's great to eat them without any extra sugar, the so-called #1 honey dip is in fact a market "honey dick", it's just a normal sugar coated donut, all their donuts are made overly sweet. It's wasn't a line when we ordering, the staffs were not busy but this guy still served us with a sour face. I suggest to go other places for better donuts, their donuts are just average.
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
Lee's Donuts. Now these were some good donuts, and the price is spot on. Yellow branding really catches the eye and gives off an overall relaxed cute vibe. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. I just wish it were easier to see the donuts in the back and read the flavours -- though I get that keeping them away from customers is more hygienic. They weren't greasy at all, a bit dense, and nicely sweet. If I get the chance to go back, I'll definitely try some of the filled ones.
google avatar

Sheena B.

Yelp
SO GOOD!! I was hesitant to try Lee's thinking it was just mid donut shop like dunkin donuts/krispy kreme (I'm from the US) and boy was I wrong. I got 6 different donuts to try and I enjoyed all of them. You must try the honey doughnuts and the seasonal flavors. The line was somewhat long but it goes by fast, highlyyy recommend if you're visiting from out of town!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not a fan of donuts but was willing to give Lee's Donuts a try to see what all the fuss was about. The line was short on a Monday at 4 PM, with fewer than 10 people ahead of me so the wait was probably less than 5 minutes. I ordered one sugar cake donut and one chocolate donut. Both were fluffy, not overly sweet, and tasted fresh. One donut is a perfectly sized afternoon snack. If you're looking to satisfy your sweets craving and you're a fan of donuts, I'd recommend Lee's. Don't let the line deter you; it moves quickly especially if people know what to order.

Yelp
Famous after Seth Rogan featured this Granville spot in a foodie episode. Line goes quick when there is one. Fresh, dense donuts of interesting flavors! Pretty good for a quick try- would go again. Loved the matcha dream donut over the honey dipped and chocolate, but just a pref. Honey dip is more fluffy than dense

Yelp
On our most recent visit to Granville Public Market, we kept seeing everyone walking around with yellow boxes of donuts. We didn't notice these on our previous visits and so we were curious. We walked around looking for it in the food hall area but could not locate it. After a short while, we finally found it towards the produce section and eagerly decided to say yes to getting donuts. I love a good donut and not all donuts are equal. And these donuts are definitely top tier. The honey dip donut - oh my gawd. It's soft and pillowy but still the perfect bite with that subtly sweet glaze. It doesn't just melt in your mouth either, it's more substance to it than just sugar. It's truly a deli donut in every sense and just reminiscing of it makes me wish I had a couple now. We also tried the Dutch crumb, butter crunch, and Dutch chocolate. Their cake donuts were just as heavenly. Not heavy or dry, they were moist and tender and made with love. We will definitely be back and enjoy these again. Just don't do what we did and cut everyone. Since we came from the inside l, we didn't realize the line went out the door and down the building. What's crazy is no one said anything to us. We didn't realize how many people we cut until we walked out to sit down and enjoy our donuts. All we could do at that point was laugh and say wow.

Yelp
The interior design of this donut shop was so aesthetically pleasing with its vibrant colors. The donut placements were so intriguing and it really made me wanna try every single donut they had. The service was quite quick with packaging and payment. The donuts were quite good and they had so many flavor options and it was so hard to choose because they all looked good. I got the chocolate Oreo donut and it was pretty good. It was only slightly dry compared to the usual donuts I eat but it was still quite tasty. It was one of the most recommended donut shop by my local friends.
google avatar

Yelp
I was recommended this place by girlfriends who love Donuts. Happened to be at Granville Market in Canada and walked by it. Line was long and you have to stand outside the door before going into line. I asked their 5 most popular so I can choose from. It was so loud in there that 8 could not hear them all. So, I picked the 3 that I heard. Honey, raspberry jelly and churro. The churro was cake batter type. Honey was light and fluffy). The raspberry jelly donut did not try because hubby ate it before I could taste. They take credit cards. Placed in brown bag. No napkins given. The person behind counter was not excited when I ask to name the most popular. I think they should put a reader board so sign up for faves so they don't have to repeat themselves . As I paid my order, the 2nd customer after me asked the same thing.

Yelp
Nestled in Vancouver's Granville Island, Lee's Donut Shop is a haven for donut aficionados. Their diverse selection offers something for everyone, from classic flavors to bold creations. Each donut is freshly made with premium ingredients, ensuring a burst of flavor in every bite. What truly sets Lee's apart is their dedication to freshness. As soon as you step in, you're greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked goodies. You have to get at least 1 honey dipped one!
google avatar

Yelp
Heard about these donuts and had to try them. $30 for a dozen sounds steep but in the end, well worth it. Got a variety of donuts and all of them were excellent. Really can't go wrong! Barely managed to snap a quick pic before they were devoured!
google avatar

Yelp
We FINALLY tried Lees famous donuts on our recent trip to Canada. The line is always so long when we visit the market and with two littles with us, it's hard to justify the wait time. Luckily we checked out the market on a week day and it wasn't too crowded by the time we got there. The donuts are delicious. I'm usually not a cake donut fan. But they're a lot less dense than you'd imagine. They also have a nice crispy edge thing going on. I feel like they're a blend of cake and old fashioned donuts, in the best way. We devoured this box. My hubs loved the honey flavored one. The girls loved them all because...well..sugar.
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
Lees is always a solid stop when in Granville island. Do not be worried about long lines the staff does an amazing job moving the lines. The Ube selections are all phenomenal. Enjoy.all their other selections soft, flavorful can't go wrong.
google avatar

Isabelle C.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time on vacation. Donuts were good but wouldn't say life changing or anything super special. Just a good classic donut. Service was good, line moved fast. Located was inside Granville island.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Delicious donuts.lots of flavors. I typically like the variety of flavours here. I throughly enjoyed their pumpkin version donut. Every bite is soft. Although they don't stay soft and fresh after 2 days. But most donuts don't. So buy how many you can eat. I always buy way too many!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally was able to try Lee's and wasn't disappointed! I got the Honey Dip while Mom got the Butter Crunch. I really loved mine, soft and airy, and that subtle hint of honey was just perfect. I'm sure these would be even more amazing heated up but I gobbled mine down before we even left Granville Island. I had a few bites of the Butter Crunch and it was alright but I prefer the yeast donuts over the cake donuts so I wasn't a huge fan. We ordered them around 10am and there was no line which was nice. I'd definitely come back and get another Honey Dip and a few other yeast donuts flavors! They also had a container of stickers with their logo by the checkout. I asked if I could have one and she said of course so that was fun too :)
google avatar

Yelp
Here is my general take on donuts - if the place has great donuts, then it's definitely worth it, but I am not otherwise a donut guy. Grocery store donuts, for example? No thank you. But the donuts at Lee's were excellent! The honey donut was definitely a standout, but every kind we tried was really good.
google avatar

Cheyenne T.

Yelp
Some of the best donuts I've ever had! The texture wasn't too cakey or bready- the perfect balance of fluffy and airy, but moist. The filled donuts were delicious and the jam wasn't too sweet or too overpowering. The matcha cheesecake wasn't too sweet either. Service was super fast and friendly! The line wasn't too long and moved pretty quickly. I'd say it'd be very worth the wait even if it's a longer line!
google avatar

Denise L.

Yelp
Long line for these donuts and had the simple honey dipped donut. It was fine, but a bit dense for my liking.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
Lee's is my go to donut spot in Vancouver. It's always very consistent in quality and can't be beat for variety. They've got a mix of both yeast and cake donuts (yeast being my favorite). There is almost always a line - so be prepared to wait and you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a classic donut I recommend the honey dip!
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Lee's Donuts was highly recommended by many YouTubers so this was my first priority to try in Granville Market. As expected, there was a line but it went by very quick. I tried the matcha, strawberry, maple and honey dipped. I honestly thought it tasted like an ordinary donut but slightly more dense. I was very disappointed with the matcha. There was no matcha flavor at all and it was just green colored sugar on top. Overall, the donuts were good but nothing out of the ordinary.
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
Last spring, we stopped by this donut place at Granville Island. The queue was not too long and it moved pretty quickly. I got the honey dipped and matcha doughnut. The donuts were fresh. I liked the honey dipped one. It was soft and pillowy. However, the matcha doughnut was more of a cakey donut and it didn't have much matcha flavor.
google avatar

Allen Y.

Yelp
One of the donut staples in Vancouver Pros - wide selection of freshly baked donuts with a variety of unique flavors. Cons - long line but moves fast A neat place to get some well loved donuts. Get a sampler box to enjoy when you are here
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
An instagrammable donut that is equally delicious as photographed. I grabbed a half dozen and slowly ate my way through the box--shares of course. The classic maple is not as sweet as you may be used to making a great balance of sweetness (sometimes I feel like I need to chug a gallon of water to dilute the sugar but it was not the case here!). The cream / jelly filled options are a must try. I've heard the lines are usually quite long but in a Sunday morning, it wasn't too bad--granted I got here when it was only open for a few hours. Standing in line you'll get to peer into the window to see all the donuts being carefully made and crafted by the team. It may be a little chilly standing outside so make sure you've got a jacket. Line didn't go super fast but it also wasn't super slow. Ask for their recommendations!
google avatar

Maddy B.

Yelp
This might be the best donut I've ever tried! I got a maple donut and a pink sprinkle. The dough itself is so flavorful, not too heavy, and not dry at all. The maple flavor is so strong it scented the car! I even had the donuts the next day and it was still way fresher than your average donut. Really great spot that's a must when on Granville Island.
google avatar

Gloria N.

Yelp
Really fresh donuts but definitely on the sweeter side. Waited in a long line to try Lee's Donuts as I've heard good things about them. I'm not a huge donut person but was willing to try them. I opted to try their honey dip donut which is their most popular and an ube donut. They were good donuts but definitely a little too sweet for my liking. However, I did like that they had many flavors plus rotating seasonal flavors. There isn't any seating by Lee's Donuts but there is some outside seating and some indoor seating around the market. Overall, if you have the time, I would still try Lee's Donuts!
google avatar

Anton F.

Yelp
Amazing! Bought a half dozen for late night snacking. Made fresh, prepared with the tastiest flavors and toppings. Soft, warm and light. Line wasn't long, took a few minutes to order. The staff was great, serving up the yummies while keeping the line moving.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Lee Donut - Honey Dip and Raspberry Jelly ($2.5/each) 6/10 A very famous donut brand in Vancouver, Lee Donut's always has a long line in Granville Island. I'm not really a donut fan but got some for my parents. We picked two of their signatures flavours, honey dip and raspberry jelly donut. The texture was quite fluffy and cakey, unfortunately both of these are still too sweet for me. Both my parents and I thought Lee's just okay and prefer Honey's at Deep Cove, but who knows maybe we're just not that into donut?
google avatar

Lina A.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday so not sure what other days are like but there was a long wait line outside but it moves pretty quick. Took us maybe 10 minutes to get in and order. They have a large selection but I only tried one donut I overheard in the line several times. The Bavarian Cream donut. It sounded legendary and it did not disappoint. Would've liked a bit more of the filling bu the donut itself was soft and sweet so i don't mind. Also, the donut wasn't just fresh, but it was warm, and that's the best way to have a donut!
google avatar

Steffi N.

Yelp
The famous donut shop in Granville Island! This a family owned donut shop that's been around for many years serving up some of the best donuts I've ever had. There's normally a line out the door and way down the property, but I got lucky during my last visit--which was especially odd considering it was a Saturday afternoon. I had the Dutch crunch donut and matcha donuts. Both of which I just inhaled. Donuts were soft and not too sweet. Just the perfect amount of sugar and carb levels to not knock you out after finishing a donut.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Lee's donuts landed on my itinerary for a must visit while staying in Vancouver for my fiancés birthday. Visited the Granville island location and this was our 1st stop. We ordered a half of a dozen donuts. We could not keep our hands out of the donut box. Donuts and flavors were amazing and delicious. Service here was fast and friendly. I definitely recommend stopping by. I would definitely come here again if in Vancouver!
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Tons of hype regarding Lee's Donuts and in my opinion, it definitely lives up to it. When we went, there was a pretty long line, but it was worth it! They carry a number of great flavors, but whatever you do, you need to get at least one honey dip..and I know a lot of other reviews say the same. There isn't really any parking right outside of Lee's, but there are quite a few lots in the area.
google avatar

Courtney O.

Yelp
If you see a line on Granville Island, it's probably for Lee's Donuts. There are certain places that just get insta popular and Lee's is one of those places. We had to know what the fuss was about so we got in line. It moved very quickly! The donuts were great! You could tell they were fresh and had that perfect crisp and fluffiness to them. The only issue is that you can't see the options until you get to the front, so all of a sudden, you've got to throw out your order. Because the line is long, you're pressured to think fast and I feel like I missed out on some of the flavors I actually would've wanted to try because I had to keep things moving along!
google avatar

Annette M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Our donuts were so good we finished them before taking a photo! Hands down the best jelly donut I've had.
google avatar

AJ L.

Yelp
Solid donuts, with a very fun variety of flavors to choose from - the selection we tried, including Matcha and Reese's peanut butter weren't especially different from anything I've had before; tasty but a tiny bit on the dry side... Maybe we got there at an unlucky time, maybe we just didn't try the best of what they had to offer, but all in all they were still good, and it's a real cute spot. Not much in the way of seating or parking specifically for the donut shop but it's a section of a much larger market so no real reason to fault them for that, there's plenty of tables and benches nearby. Definitely worth a try if you're already visiting Granville Island - if I went again, I'd go out of my way to try the Honeydip #1 and the Bavarian Cream as recommended by other reviewers here :)
google avatar

Keizzel C.

Yelp
After seeing Lee's on Netflix I had it bookmarked for my Granville visit. I came early so even though there was a line they crank out the boxes super fast. Be sure you check the flavors ahead of time since the line moves quickly but be sure to get the honey dipped donuts. I loved the chewiness of the donuts and are so good same day! I will say they don't hold up as well the next day so be sure you devour these ASAP. I've tried other Lee's donuts flavors in a box of a dozen and they were good too but the honey dipped was the winner in my book.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
We got the Bavarian (vanilla custard) and Honey Dip doughnuts as they were recommended by the cashier. These were very tasty doughnuts, and they were $3.25 each. I really liked the flavour of the vanilla custard as it wasn't too sweet.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Not much of a wait when I was there on a Sunday afternoon. Many flavors to choose from and the donuts were soft and cake-like. Not dense, but moist with fine crumb. Just the right amount of sweetness.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Honestly overhyped if you have had doughnuts from anywhere in PNW/California, this is just mediocre and boring. Lines do get long with tourists, everyone's watching YouTube travel videos. They do accept US credit cards. Located right inside the market, so it's a bit loud but hard to miss.
google avatar

P T.

Yelp
I wasn't too impressed with this donut shop. I came about a year and half ago and I had gone through a door that I guess was the market exit and saw this shop so I decided sure I needed a snack so let's try it. I did not know the line started outside lmao. Knowing now? Isn't worth the hype in my opinion they are just ORDINARY donuts with various toppings and every single one was sweet sweet sweet. I tried to find one that was less sweet but ultimately I had to find a napkin in the marketplace and wipe off the sugar. So grossed out it was so sweet. And I can't believe the lines go out the door apparently it's the norm and this place is "the place" cuz even tourists come here just for the famous donuts. I will pass I wouldn't want them even if free. But I'm not a fan of sugar so that may be why. If they had plain donuts I didn't see any. Staff was polite and let me buy even after I found out I had cut the line by oh like 10-15 mins worth of people.

Anokhy D.

Yelp
I saw a long line for this place the first time we were in town so I skipped it. FOMO got the best of me the second time so I got in line while it was only three people long and grabbed a chocolate glazed donut. Classic donut shop, classic donut!
