Leeu House

"With its thatched roof, whitewashed walls, and ornate gables, the new 12-room Leeu House is right at home in a historic town known for its Cape Dutch architecture. Interiors balance out this old-world vibe, pulling from contemporary South African design: latticed partitions fashioned from tea-dyed kudu leather; splashy canvases by renowned artist Lionel Smit. More important, most of the wineries and restaurants you’ll want to visit are less than 15 miles away."

Leeu House (Franschhoek, South Africa) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For a crash course in the good life, Franschhoek style, you could do a lot worse than Leeu House, a beautiful Cape Dutch guesthouse right at the top of the village’s central Huguenot Street. This is the in-town twin of the Leeu Estates vineyard resort, which means the luxe living on offer in its twelve sunny suites is complemented by a first-rate restaurant by chef Oliver Cattermole, where the dishes are accompanied wine list that's predictably first-rate." - Tablet Hotels

Leeu House is a stunningly beautiful boutique hotel situated right in the heart of Franschhoek, and if you appreciate a more personal touch to your stay in a deeply attractive looking establishment, we cannot recommend it highly enough. The entire property is fabulously decorated, showcasing an impeccable sense of style that makes every space feel both sophisticated and welcoming. This beautiful setting is matched by the exceptional service delivered by the small, dedicated team who truly make you feel cared for. Our room was very spacious and well presented, though we’d note the bed, while comfortable, was on the firmer side. Not an issue for us but may be for some. The public areas are just as inviting: the pool and garden area are very well kept and easily make for a lovely, tranquil spot to spend an afternoon. The attentive staff in this area are brilliant. In the evening, we enjoyed cocktails at the front of the hotel—a truly pleasant spot to unwind and watch the town go by. As for dining, the breakfast was lovely, with the French toast standing out as a must-try item. While we didn't dine for dinner, the quality of the breakfast suggests high culinary standards across the board. Two key notes for future guests: be prepared for a few mosquitos, even on cooler days (we visited in October). Also, my wife highly recommends the Spa, which is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. She described it as one of the best massages she’s ever had, so it's well worth checking out if you're looking for world-class relaxation. Overall, Leeu House is an absolute gem and the perfect base for exploring the Cape Winelands.

Leeu House is perfect and ideally located in the heart of Franschhoek. The rooms are stunning and the garden and restaurant are delightful. The staff are unbelievably efficient, kind and helpful and are always happy to assist with anything you need and to give advice. And if you have the fortune to come across Honest you will want for nothing! He is utterly charming and will make sure your stay with them is everything you could wish for. Other than wine tastings which the reception staff will happily arrange for you, we would strongly recommend arranging a tour with Crisben who runs the Huguenot Museum (3 minutes walk away). He is full of the history and culture of the region and is a wonderful reconteur. We will be coming back to Franschhoek and will definitely stay at Leeu House.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Right on the Main Street of Franschhoek, everything is in easy walking distance with lots of good options for food and drink. The staff were extremely helpful and always polite and wanting to help. The art in the hotel is really cool and gives the place a real nice feel. Our room was very nice but very close to some construction taking place next to the hotel, so the noise at times wasn’t great. The hotel did offer to move us but to their sister hotel down the road, as they couldn’t offer us anything in The hotel, but as we had unpacked and were only there for two nights we declined.

The thoughtful little extras and surprises throughout our visit were such a delight and really set this hotel apart.||Each morning, we looked forward to breakfast thanks to our wonderful waiter, Honest, who was not only professional but also genuinely warm and welcoming. We absolutely loved Leeu House! The staff is amazing and so friendly. Breakfast is delicious. Location is great - walking distance to many restaurants. Definitely recommend the complementary wine tasting at their wine cellar (about a 5 min drive). We couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

The staff were so helpful|and professional, the rooms were perfect and the breakfast superb. It was also great to use the spa at the nearby Leeu Estates hotel where the treatments were fantastic.
