We came here for the 6 course degustation dinner, open only on Saturdays, and one of the few wineries open for dinner in Margaret River.
The decor is simple, and the dining room had full ceiling to floor windows that would make for a great view during the day. The tables are made from gorgeous weathered wood slabs, but the overall decor is very sophisticated rather than rustic. The service was great and the food and wine even better.
I highly recommend doing the wine pairings, and if you can, try the Current releases as well as the Museum releases so you can compare them. They're both amazing, and some of these glasses are so expensive on their own at $30+ by the glass, so for an extra $46 for the Current releases and $82 for the Museum release, the pairing seemed worth it.
First course was a creamy oyster paired with lime, very delicious and simple.
The second was a scallop ceviche, which was so fresh and flavourful yet very delicate. The puffed rice and yuzu gel really tied together the whole dish.
Third course was a perfectly cooked salmon, slightly rare in the middle, with more puffed rice, a horseradish cream, and a crunchy rice cracker.
Fourth course was a tender juicy chicken with a whole roasted carrot, potato puree, a blanched snap pea and shaved truffle, all sitting in a creamy mussel sauce. It worked very well together, and even my husband who was skeptical about a "boring chicken" enjoyed it.
The fifth course was a braised duck breast that had a some shredded duck underneath, poached cubed persimmon, and celery root puree. The duck was perfectly medium rare and everything was well-balanced.
The dessert course was a simple gorgonzola piccante cheese with a bit of quince, apples and a few crackers. We had the option of adding a chocolate brulee as well for an additional cost but we didn't need anything else.
While it was a lot of food, we were eating it over a few hours and the servings were just right so we didn't leave feeling either overly full or slightly hungry.
All in all, a great dining experience and though pricey seems well worth the money. Beautiful and careful presentation of food and wine with local fresh and seasonal ingredients can't be beat.
