Lefteris O Politis (est. 1951)

Lefteris o Politis is a legendary place in Athens that has been doing the same thing since 1951, and doing it fantastically well. What they serve here is not exactly what you would call a typical souvlaki. It is a small grilled pita bread filled with a beef kebab/burger, tomatoes, onions, parsley and spices. The pita is grilled together with the meat and then filled with the special beef meat, a bit of onion and tomato, some spices and that is it. Very simple, but incredibly delicious. The flavor is amazing and everything comes together perfectly in this small pita. The place itself is extremely casual. You just go there, stand in line in front of the cashier and say how many you want, one, two or three. Most of the people there are locals who clearly know this place very well, although there are also tourists who have discovered this little temple of flavor. You take your pita, grab a drink, and stand outside at one of the high tables to eat it. There is no real sitting down, you just enjoy it there quickly and go. The taste is so good that it is very easy to eat two without even thinking. I barely managed to stop myself from ordering a third one. It is definitely one of those simple places that you absolutely have to visit in Athens just to experience this classic taste.

A hidden local gem in Omonia. It’s not well known by tourist, locals were even surprised to see us in line. But the flavor… unbelievable. We had three souvlaki (at €2.70 each). The pita, the meat, and the spicy sauce were all incredible. Since the pitas are small, it makes sense to order two per person. The atmosphere will feel familiar to anyone who loves places like Karadeniz Döner in İstanbul, you can really feel the historical character of the place. It was the best thing we ate during our Athens trip. The taste is still on our minds. 🤤

Honestly the cheapest and best souvlaki I have had till date. This place only serves one dish- Beef souvlaki. If a place serves only one dish, you can imagine the confidence they have on their single item menu. The place is always crowded but service is fast. You will have to stand outside and eat. The beef was melt in the mouth and bread was soft and juicy. Reason, while the beef is being grilled, the bread is kept on top of the beef thus making sure it sucks all the juices from the beef making it soft and fluffy! The prices are unbelievable too! Single beef kebab on bread was 2.5 € and double beef kebab was 3.8 €. I don’t know how they keep prices so low, obviously it’s a volume game which u can see with the crowd flocking!

Amazing traditional souvlaki spot! You can really taste the quality and history here - they’ve been serving since 1951, and it shows. The meat is juicy and flavorful, the pita is soft, and everything feels authentically Greek. Perfect place for a quick, delicious bite in the city. Definitely one of the best souvlakis around!

You are here for the food, not the vibe. And damn is it good food. They have two items, spicy and non spicy beef souvlaki. Tried both. Absolutely smashing. If uou dont eat here at least once you are seriously missing out.

The BEST souvlaki place in whole of Athens! I first ordered one souvlaki as I wasn’t really hungry. As soon as I took the first bite I knew I would get another one. The meatballs in the souvlaki were very bouncy and juicy. The staff were happy that I came back and they made a new one straight away. If you are in the neighborhood try to swing by!

Best souvlaki in Athens ! You definitely have to go there. Each sandwich is really cheap. Souvlaki is not that big so I recommend ordering at least two per person (but you will order more because it’s so good). Meat is delicious, juicy and well seasoned. Very friendly staff, family atmosphere. Many if simple (attached) but you don’t need anything more. Don’t go there right before closing time because they can be sold out. It’s a must visit! Highly recommend

Timeless place. It’s got its character, charm and vibe. The food was quite basic though: a bit oversalted, lacking taste but cheap. A must try in any case.
