On the Grid : Legacy Trail

"Lexington’s shared-use greenway is open to all manner of bikers, walkers, runners, and skaters. The 12-mile trail crosses an incredible landscape from the Isaac Murphy Memorial Park at East End of downtown all the way to the Kentucky Horse Park. A showcase for public art, a neighborhood connector, and a green space – the trail allows everyone the benefit of the beautiful Kentucky landscape." - Bullhorn

We rode from the dead in front of the Kentucky Horse Park all the way to Mary Todd Lincoln’s house in front of Rupp Arena! We loved being able to access the trail from the campground and being able to stop and eat at a local brewery on the trail in Lexington.

We started at the Iron Works trail head. The ride was beautiful until we got to mile maker 2, then we were in a not so nice part of town many home less and the obvious trail ended and there was ZERO markers and at one point we rode on the road in a "Bike lane" but the problem with that was it was mostly filled with parked cars. So take the trail but turn around at marker 2. BTW we never saw marker 1.

Nice bike path through some farmland, not as nice near the city though.

My favorite biking path in Lexington. Start at the Horse Park or Berea Roads Soccer fields, and make your way into downtown Lexington if you want (a little sketchy on that end, and poorly marked). Rarely crowded, easy elevation changes, a bit of variety in the scenery. Great way to spend a couple healthy hours! 🚴‍♂️ 🚵‍♀️

Wonderful bike, walking trail, however when within 1 mile of downtown Lexington it gets really questionable. I felt unsafe, uncomfortable and I decided to turn around.

Best place to go cycling uninterrupted in Lexington without worrying about when you will have to use a highway or larger road with high speed limits
