Tacky is a kind description for this place.
What happens when you build a rural outlet mall and combine it with obnoxious entertainment venues like Dave and Buster's, a standard megaplex, and a Rainforest Cafe on HGH (T Rex)? The Legends at Village West...unfortunately.
Legends is a knockoff of a Cali-style venue like The Block at Orange or Universal Citywalk. Unfortunately for its developers, the concept's success has been mixed at best in the Midwest. Many of the nightlife-geared places have already bit the dust (Saddle Ranch, Caliente, Corona #1, Banana Joe's). Why would young people want to dance and party in a rural, outdoor mall when the Plaza, Midtown, Westport and P+L exist? What remains is a garrish mix of outlet stores, bad chain restaurants, and a few remaining entertainment venues.
The place pipes in really bad music through its corridors that makes it almost uncomfortable to enjoy being there. It's got a like a World's of Fun meets a suburban big box center type of vibe. There are a few redeeming factors (the pizza place is decent, good selection of business wear at BR, Ann Taylor, Brook Brothers, Ted's, Jazz, Pin-Up Bowl) but overall the place is just abusive to your senses.
Legends is mostly for family tourist types and I get that. There are a lot of value-oriented stores, but I'd prefer as a family to stay Downtown, Crown Center or the Plaza before I stepped foot in this area with my family. Enjoy the cultural attractions of the city and limit the Legends to an afternoon of shopping-- it deserves little more.
It would kinda tragic if a shopping center this large flopped, but I can't imagine that without a major overhaul it'll still be as popular in 10 years. It's just a big monument for the excesses of the early 2000s, SUV, buy it on credit, live beyond your means lifestyle.
