This Deserted Soviet Resort Town Is Attracting New Visitors Through Art
"Once an elegant Soviet destination that attracted the elites of the Communist Party, including Joseph Stalin himself, for its natural springs, Tskaltubo is now an array of crumbling hotels, bath houses, and sanitoriums."
I was very disappointed with my stay. The service was awful—there was no toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, or even coffee in the room. When I called reception, I was told they don’t provide coffee and that I could buy it in the restaurant, but the restaurant was already closed at 7 pm. Also, there were no towels available at the pool. This level of service is unacceptable for a hotel.

This is more an experience rather than an accommodation.
This Hotel is the only Soviet Sanatorium in operation in the city.
It’s not perfect but it’s a rather unique experience to sleep in an historical place.
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. A personal thank you to Omar who kindly showed us around the building.

A historical place. In an accessible place. The staff deserves gratitude . Even after returning, they asked, how things were going. Nice.

Huge recommendation to stay here, and this is why; if you come to Tskaltubo to see the former Soviet sanatoria, this hotel is a must stay, as it is the only place where the past is brought back to life in a great way. Rooms breathe the sanatorium vibe. Decorations are in original state and so is the furniture. Rooms are comfortable and the owner is very eager and enthusiastic to tell you more about the hotel, it’s history and may even be willing to give you some peeks in parts of the complex that are still in original(!) state.
I have read some negative reviews here too. Do not go here if you think the buffet is some Turkish riviera all-in-resort. It’s not and it does not want to be. Don’t go if you want the most luxurious hotel on the planet. It’s not the purpose of the place. Do not go if you don’t want to understand that the furniture
is actually dating back from Soviet era and that you are actually having the opportunity to sleep in a time capsule.

Stayed there yesterday, don’t expect like a crazy fancy hotel. It’s a former bath with an amazing swimming pool, a beautiful garden and a lot of lovely dogs! The building is impressive and the service was very good. Didn’t have the chance to try the breakfast but the room was very comfortable with a good AC. I honestly don’t understand other reviews (4,1/5 🧐)
