"Leidseplein: Fun Squared in Amsterdam It's easy to have a love-hate relationship with Leidesplein (Leidse Square), a colorful if sometimes frenetic entertainment hub near Vondelpark, at Amsterdam's southern end. Accessible via trams 1, 2, 5, 7 and 10, the square is the stage for street performers from acrobatic break-dancers to comedians and guitar duos like The Famous Unknowns. In winter, an ice rink and olliebollen stands appear, delighting holiday tourists. Grab a front row seat at The Bulldog, where you can smoke weed, eat burgers and drink beer. At the adjacent Sports Cafe, €10 buys a bottomless plate of ribs or 10 shots of Jagermeister. Also on the menu are Dutch pannekoeken topped with sweet or savory add-ons. While you'll walk away full, don't expect gourmet food or attentive service; most Leidseplein establishments cater to tourists, relying on prime location rather than repeat business to survive. In addition to virtually every ethnic cuisine, there's ample nightlife in Leidseplein. Amp it up at renowned music venues like Paradiso, Melkweg and Sugar Factory or chill at an Irish pub or brown café. The regal Stadsschouwburg, Amsterdam's city theater, offers dramatic and musical productions, while the 1,500-seat De La Mar Theatre stages musical, cabaret and drama. The upscale American Hotel is popular for Sunday Jazz Brunch. There's an Apple temple as well as an H & M, plus banking/money conversion services in the square. Taxis line up for tourists who will likely pay dearly for a short trip."

"Pump Up Your Shopping on Leidsestraat With shops offering enough pumps, boots, spike heels, designer clothes, cosmetics, suitcases and specialty foods to satisfy the fussiest shopper, Leidsestraat attracts droves of tourists, locals and fashionistas. Whether you're searching for high style, camp shoes, Dutch cheese or soft drugs, you're likely to find what you're looking for in the boutiques, high-end department stores, specialty shops and coffeeshops on this busy passenger byway and the small streets shooting off from it. Running from Koningsplein to Leidseplein, Leidsestraat continues the shopping adventure where Kalverstraat ( Amsterdam 's other pedestrian shopping street) leaves off. Walking south, you'll know you've reached it when you come to the flower stands at the Bloemenmarkt. Popular draws include Sissy Boy, Replay, Abercrombie & Fitch, Metz & Co., Cora Kemperman, V & D, Eicholtz and a Henri Willig Cheese & More shop. As you approach Leideseplein, one of Amsterdam's entertainment squares, more souvenir shops, fast food options and money changing outlets appear. Watch out for trams running down the center of the pedestrian byway!"

Since I moved to Amsterdam, I really love this street despite it being crowded and noisy it definitely has its charm.

It is a beautiful street😍 with a very interesting history. On the top floor of the Metz & Co department store on the Leidsestraat is the "Rietveld Dome", designed by Gerrit Rietveld (furniture designer) in 1933, which offers a unique view of Amsterdam city centre. Actor Louis Bowmeister (best known for his interpretations of Shakespeare) lived in house 103. The facade of rooms 86-88 is decorated with an ornament in the Art Deco style with the image of Christian Huygens, the inventor of the pendulum clock. (Dutch mechanic, physicist, mathematician, astronomer and inventor. One of the founders of theoretical mechanics and probability theory. He made a significant contribution to optics, molecular physics, astronomy, geometry, time affairs. He discovered the rings of Saturn and Titan (a satellite of Saturn). He invented the first practically I use the clock model with a pendulum. He laid the foundation for wave optics). The Gay Emancipation Association COC was founded in 1946 in building #67-7. Being a connecting route between the COC Club De Schakel (From 1955 to 1978 De Schakel was the club of the COC Gay Emancipation Association, it was very popular among gays and also attracted many foreign visitors, contributing to Amsterdam's position as the gay capital) on the Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 49 and the gay discotheque DOK (De Odeon Kelder 1952 to 1989) on Singel, Leidsestraat also functioned from the 1950s as a place where men could engage in sexual contact, with or without payment. Therefore, among homosexuals, Leidsestraat received the nickname Rue de Vaseline, which was later also applied to Reguliersdwarsstraat. Leidsestraat is the second most expensive street in the Dutch version of the board game Monopoly

One of the streets where you just HAVE to go to, if you're into shopping.

I was looking for an open chemist on a Sunday, which it was! We caught a tram from Centrum, which was a cheap, quick and visually pleasing journey. The local surrounding area has all types of shops and restaurants.

Amsterdam’ın en işlek caddesi. İstiklal Caddesine çok benziyor.
