"The Spinnerei is a huge creative complex founded on the site of the former cotton mill, including more than 100 artists' studios, a potters' workshop, print studios, galleries, a cinema, an arts supply store, a Café/Restaurant, and much more. The historical industrial site was founded in 1884 and employed as many as 4000 workers at its height. "In the early 1900s, the Spinnerei was Europe’s largest cotton-spinning mill. Today, the 750,000-square-foot space is the epicenter of Leipzig’s artistic renaissance, housing 14 galleries, more than 100 artists’ studios (including that of famed German artist Neo Rauch), and a host of rotating exhibitions. It’s all contemporary art, all the time here, from paintings and photography to sculpture to video, with a range of German and international artists featured.
