Leisure Inn Penny Royal, Launceston

Our room was directly above the adjoining pubs cooling fridge compressor. We’ve had 24/7 loud ongoing noise from that. Hence the earplugs we found in the room. Rooms are tired, only 1 window opened and the far end of the room smelt mouldy. Aircon was working intermittently also making added noises, complementing the compressor. The site has 2 accommodation sites. One directly by the adventure park and one adjoins a pub and busy road. We were in the latter one. Disappointed considering what we paid. Plus point: great house keeping.

It was a great place to stay for a decent price. The location was perfect, being a short walk into town and right next to Cataract Gorge. The staff were very lovely at reception. The room was spacious enough for myself, clean, the wifi was very responsive and I appreciated the Smart TV which had YouTube and Netflix on it. There were a couple of issues, there wasn't a lot of natural lighting (window was very small) and the fire alarm went off three times while I stayed for no reason it seemed. But besides that, I would highly recommend!

Location great. Room was not very nice. Stained lounge, cups for coffee or tea were stained, terrible noise on flushing toilet. Too noisy with party goers milling around the carport making loud, loud noise after 9pm, had previously read management were going to do something about this, obviously it has been ignored. I must say the receptionist was lovely, charming and full of information, she is excellent....(for you J). So no I would not stay there ever again, not worth the nearly $300 for a night.

Penny Royal is very much a product of the 70s. You feel that when you stay... the room is rather dark and seemed a little cold. Put that aside and our room was very comfortable, immaculately clean and tidy and very very quiet. Large shower with plenty of hot water. The hotel location is excellent, with plenty of free on-site parking, some great eateries nearby and the staff onsite are professional and helpful during check-in and check-out. Value for money is very good. We usually stay at another hotel nearby but that was unavailable for this stay. However, we will look more closely at the options available to us next time we search for Launceston accommodation. We may well return as guests. Our overall experiences were very positive. Attempting to check-in online prior to arrival did not work for us. The system has a significant IT flaw that no-one appeared interested in rectifying. We were told to just ignore it and check-in at the hotel. That is not a proper solution to an in-house IT issue. Fix it!

The Penny Royal Inn was simply incredible. When you walk in and feel that rustic, charming atmosphere that reverberates through the walls, you know that you've made a good choice coming here. We stayed in the George Suite, which was clean, comfortable, historic feeling and overall wonderful. When we went down for dinner, the staff at the inn were incredibly nice and welcoming, and the food was delicious beyond compare. One big plus is that your only about 140m from the Penny Royal adventure park, which is amazing. Overall, this hotel had great rooms, great food and service and a great destination just a short walk away. This motel is a must if you're stopping in Launceston.

My husband, my sister-in-law, and I spent three days at the hotel, and the experience was wonderful! We arrived late at night, so the reception was already closed, but that wasn’t a problem — there was a lockbox next to the entrance with a code to access an envelope containing all the information, the room key, and the parking card, all clearly explained. I was really happy about that! The room was great, the location was amazing, and we highly recommend this hotel!

A stone and timber, sort of midevil, facade. It photographs nice from the front, pretty beat from the side and back. It's a tour bus motel. Earplugs are provided in the rooms. Nice amenity, but a forewarning of the potential noise level. Although the room was clean, the corriders and elevators were filthy, Clearly they run a lot of people through there. Box continental breakfasts are marginal at best.

This was my second stay at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was tidy, and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay overall. However, there was noise from road works outside during the night, so we didn’t sleep very well.
