I booked a day spa at this hotel, and I was looking forward to it, unfortunately the mood started to shift right as I received their confirmation email.
1. First, they made it seem as if it was a huge deal and a great exception that they are letting us come in on Sunday, even though on our voucher Sundays were included. I can understand that maybe easter sunday can be quite busy, so we could have agreed on another date had they said so, instead of making us feel unwelcome in the email.
2. Once we arrived, we wanted to buy the package with the slippers and the bathrobes as it was an extra, however they apparently didn’t have any slippers anymore, which is very weird for a 5 star hotel spa. From what I’m reading now in previous reviews, it doesn’t seem to be a one time occurence. We were a bit taken aback, so I asked the employee why they didn’t send us an email so that we could have brought our own, as we didn’t want to walk barefoot. She just shrugged and told me that if I’m making this much fuss about slippers, I can just take my voucher and come back with it another day. When I was obviously getting upset, as it already took us 3 hours to get there, she thought she made up for it later by not making us pay for the bathrobes…
3. The pools were quite outdated and the temperature of the outdoor pool was lukewarm at best. I also nearly slipped in the pool area so the lack of slippers is clearly a safety hazard.
4. Another client of the spa came up to me to ask for sanitary pads. I apoligized and told her I didn’t have any and that probably the spa reception would have some or at least help her, but apparently they also couldn’t provide her with anything nor any help…
All in all, if you’re wondering if you should book a day spa at this hotel, do not; I have never felt more unwelcome. For this price, you may as well go to other well deserving 5 star hotels in Gstaad or Engelberg, which have way better spas and professional personnel.
