21 Places to Get Back Into the Beatles

"Tucked away into a nondescript street away from the touristy hustle and bustle that usually pervades Prague, the Lennon Wall takes your breath away. Every inch of the wall has been filled with Lennon-inspired graffiti and Beatles song lyrics. It is a quiet, almost respectful space as visitors walk down the length of the beautifully painted wall.  An image of John Lennon was first painted on the wall (opposite the French Embassy) after his murder in December 1980. Soon, it became a prime site for political and Beatles-inspired graffiti and a sounding board for disgruntled youth. Several attempts were made by the police to whitewash the wall, but in vain. Artists continued to paint on the wall, refusing to be pinned down. The wall is the property of the Knights of Malta, and after repeated attempts to keep the wall clean, they finally gave in and the wall now stands in all its graffitied glory. Visitors may even see someone working on the wall whilst you’re there. Often it is students keeping the tradition that began 40 years ago alive. Update as of October 2019: The wall has been covered by tarps and is undergoing renovations. The site plans to reopen as a gallery for professional artists." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Around the corner from the Prague’s famous bridge and castle. It’s funky and colourful. I would say it’s for the younger generation who are interested in a selfie. The garden behind a the wall is well maintained and feels like a sanctuary in a very busy touristic area. There is a small shop where you could pick up a little present 🎁

While traveling in Prague we learned the story of the John Lennon wall. When Lennon died, local musicians came to this wall and played Beatles music. Over the years people of all ages have stopped by to put on the wall messages of peace and love, and just some plain old graffiti. The images of Lennon have changed over the years, and all that is left is an outline of the top of his head, his hair and glasses with peace signs on the lenses. For Beatles fans especially, it is worth seeing if you visit Prague

The wall is dynamic and quotes and art keeps evolving. One can write your own message. It's a 'PEACE' of art - pun intended. The wall is a quick walk from Charles bridge.

A beautiful colorful wall that attracts crowds of tourists. A great place for young artists to leave their mark.

The Lennon Wall: Prague's Canvas of Freedom “La musica può cambiare il mondo perché può cambiare le persone” (Music can change the world because it can change people). This sentiment perfectly embodies Prague's vibrant Lennon Wall, where artistic expression and political resistance have merged into a colorful testament to human resilience. A Living Monument to Peace Unlike Prague's more ancient attractions, the Lennon Wall emerged organically in the 1980s as a spontaneous tribute to John Lennon and his ideals of peace following his assassination. During Communist rule, when Western symbols were forbidden, this wall became a daring canvas for youth expressing desires for freedom and change. Like a wolf's howl breaking through the silence of oppression, these colorful expressions signaled to others that they weren't alone. Ever-Evolving Artwork What makes the Lennon Wall extraordinarily special is its constant transformation. Unlike static monuments, this wall breathes and evolves daily as visitors from around the world add their own messages, artwork, and dreams. The layers of paint represent generations of voices, creating a visual dialogue that spans decades. A Touching Encounter During my visit, I witnessed an elderly Czech man showing his young granddaughter the wall. He pointed to a faded portion and explained how he had painted Beatles lyrics there in 1985 as an act of defiance. As he spoke, a young artist nearby offered the child some paint to make her own mark. In that moment, three generations connected through this living canvas—past rebellion nurturing future expression. Beyond the Surface The Lennon Wall demonstrates how shared spaces can transcend their physical dimensions to become repositories of collective human experience. In the business world, we often talk about creating platforms for expression, but this humble wall demonstrates that authentic connection needs no corporate structure—just the freedom to speak and be heard. What would you write on this global canvas of human expression if given the chance, and what walls in your own life might benefit from a splash of colorful truth?

This wall is nice, it has an interesting story, its appearance is only moderately impressive. You can include it as part of a trip to the area, but I don't think you should come here especially.

I must thank Luca S for suggesting my upgrade since I am crossing so many countries. Yet to return the car when I posting here! But I trust it will be good ☺️. 25 April I returned the car and the staff on duty is really helpful. Cheers guys!

Google
A colorful wall full of graffiti representing freedom of expression. Got a chance to write on it using a marker. Wasn't crowded at all when I visited in the evening and had very few people clicking pictures.

Yelp
Great living memorial to John Lennon and what he meant to the people of the Czech Republic under communism. John's view on Peace, Love and Freedom were a beacon for them under communist rule. The wall features artwork from local artists and everyday people. A must see after you cross the Charles Bridge.

Yelp
Love the concept of the wall, but so sad to see how much graffiti has destroyed the wall. For example, the mirror with his face has been completely covered with various stickers, you can NOT see any part of him. Hard to really look at.....
google avatar

Yelp
The John Lennon Wall symbolizes freedom of speech and the non-violent resistance of the Czech youth. The wall started in 1980, shortly after Lennon was murdered. Although John Lennon never visited the location of the wall, it was crafted as a symbolic burial site by the youth of Prague. Very cool that it's still here after 40 years. It definitely doesn't look like it did back then; it is constantly changing as new art is added over old art. Only con now is that you cannot see his face any longer as it has been completely covered. Once again arrive early to avoid tour groups.

Yelp
I loved the graffiti and the message of peace and love on the John Lennon Wall. Spent time smiling in looking at the layers of art and song lyrics written there. And, for the rest of about 2 blocks of the wall, I walked through Czech's history of political liberalization and of protests of the time! CHEERS!

Yelp
Yelp Review 2023 #86: Located between two museums: Kampa and Kafka, is this wall. The art installations I wanted to see while I was in Prague were blocked due to construction. Since I was already in the area, I decided to stop by Lennon Wall. Nobody was there at 7am. My mom was a Beatles fan so I'm familiar with them and Yoko Ono and all that. But I failed to see how this place is a landmark and tourist attraction. Graffiti is a modern expression of political sentiments. In the late 1980's, Czechs turned to this wall. It's been painted on, repainted over and over. Sure, it's colorful but I've been to many cities with much more impressive graffiti. It's free. It's there. Go visit or not. But don't make it a priority to see this wall. Trust me, there's plenty of free things you can do and see in Prague.

Yelp
Groovy wall of street art dedicated to John Lennon. It was interesting, but not a big "wow", unless you're a die hard Beatles fan. Its not far from the western end of the Charles Bridge and easy to find with Google Maps or following any one of the large tour groups. Lots of people trying to take pictures of course, so be patient!

Alison V.

Yelp
Interesting, lots of graffiti/tagging but interesting to look at. There is also a museum but we went at night and it was closed.
google avatar

Natalya R.

Yelp
It is peaceful and a cool place for a short walk and to take plenty of pictures! This is a dedicated area to John Lennon. I'm not a big fan, but it is still a "cool" place to see while visiting Prague. It's all about exploring the city and checking off places.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Graffiti art with history! A great pop by to drop by and stroll through the streets of the wall! I was here when it was being remodeled. Nonetheless, a wonderful spot to be and learn the culture!
google avatar

Del Y.

Yelp
This is a great piece of history to check out when in Prague. The wall art is beautiful, and it's a great spot that's really easy to find. If you want a clear photo, I recommend getting there early in the morning.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
What am I looking at? Don't take a plane just to see this please. It's lots of street art and of course a John Lennon art piece. I went at night so it wasn't crowded. I guess since I didn't grow up listening to the Beatles I don't have many emotions towards it. See it, take a pic and move on to the CASTLE or DEGAS Art gallery or the famous astronomical clock. Just my opinion...
google avatar

Louisa M.

Yelp
I love street art because it's free, it's usually politically charged, and it's ever-changing. The John Lennon Wall is worth a stop if you're in Prague. Be forewarned that it's a lot smaller than you'd expect and much of it is covered it ugly graffiti and swear words instead of art that's meaningful, but the wall's charming rough-around-the-edges, colorful glory is beautiful in its own right. Be sure to research the history of the wall, it's pretty rad. And all my fellow pacifists: don't forget to flash a peace sign in John's memory.
google avatar

Curt C.

Yelp
Love, Love, Love! This is such a cool idea! Someone who owns this big wall by the Charles Bridge decided to make it an homage to the memory of John Lennon! Anyone can graffiti on this wall, but John Lennon type graffiti is encouraged! When I went, they had a portrait of John, along with anti-Trump works, and pro-Hong Kong graffiti, which made it sorta political. I made sure to draw my own graffiti and tag it up. Around the corner, there was a guitarist at the Love Locks Bridge playing Beatles songs, and the John Lennon Pub. The neighborhood asks that you not graffiti anything other than the wall, and leave the trees alone, which is a reasonable request. The coolest thing about this wall is that since it's been painted over so many times, that it's centimeters thick in layers of paint, and if you're lucky, you can find these stratified layered paint chips that look other worldly. If you're a Beatles fan, this is a must-see. It's an ongoing art project that seemed well coordinated and thoughtfully done. It seems that there was some coordination between the artists, the stuff I saw was pretty recently painted, and not covered in gibberish tags.
google avatar

Guy K.

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -The John Lennon Wall was just okay to check out. -It's basically a graffiti representation of the face of "peace" during that time of the Czech Republic's history. -If you want to get a clear photo, I would suggest walking here early in the morning. Overall, it's easy to find and worth checking out in the small town of Prague.
google avatar

Yelp
All You Need is Love Started as a tribute/memorial to John Lennon after his death, this wall became a protest outlet against communism in the student movement deemed "Lennon-ism". As the wall was painted and the graffiti was white washed, the following day it was painted again. Today, it carries messages of love and peace.
google avatar

Kathleen D.

Yelp
I LOVE this wall of graffiti. A must, must, MUST visit for anyone planning a trip to Prague. It's a moving exhibit of ever-evolving art centered around the hope for peace. You'll find inspirational phrases, lyrics, and a bunch of people who signed their names. It will never look exactly the same, which is so cool to me. I originally visited in 2010 and returned recently. The cool portrait of John Lennon is gone but there's plenty of other neat tributes in its place. I know it's a touristy move, but I'd also recommend a visit to the John Lennon Pub after your wall visit, even if just for a little while. They have awesome beer, a good food menu, awesome art, and fair prices to boot. Big fan!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
I mean.... it's cool and all, colorful and great for your instagramable moments, but it's like, it's just a wall. I read the significance behind the wall, inspiring, but unless you happen to be walking by or maybe you're a huge Lennon fan, there's other sites more interesting.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Can I be honest and say I don't think Lennon would be super impressed by the bullshit folks are writing on this wall and then taking selfies in front of? It appears that this used to be a wall filled with inspiring quotes of unity but now that wall is filled with "f**k this" and other less than inspiring slurs. This spot lacked the peaceful reflection I had hoped for expected from a memorial to Lennon. Regardless, only a few blocks off the Vltava River you'll find the Lennon wall on a quiet unsuspecting side street. It's a jumble of graffiti and notes that I imagine were once about love and acceptance but now it's basically a jumble of phrases with f**k attached to them. I suppose I sound cynical but it hurt my heart a bit. If you go there, please add a note of love on my behalf. I arrived unprepared.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
The John Lennon Wall is a pretty neat little wall that essentially has graffiti all over it and changes nearly on a daily basis. The wall itself is pretty cool to look at as it boasts some extremely bright colors and for some reason makes you think. The wall is actually fairly small and does have some vulgar writing on it which makes it a bit less appealing IMHO. Overall its worth a trip to snap a couple of pictures but I wouldn't come to this particular attraction expecting greatness. Pros- Historical significance Bright colors Picturesque Location Ever changing and can be inspirational Cons- Smaller than expected Vulgar language Crowds everywhere
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
You don't need to be a Beatles fan to appreciate the heartfelt artistic tribute to one of the great musicians of our lifetime. This is urban art at it's best and respect to this great city for allow the graffiti to remain on these walls. It is just paint on concrete but seeing the contributions of many makes you realize that there is a common thread in humanity. We all want to imagine a better world and John Lennon inspired us to dream it up and also to make it happen. No time better than the present for us to dig down and do something daily that will help bring the vision to life. All that said this is one of the better instagram-able photo ops in the city. Even in the gloomy rain. You're going to get mad likes, I guarantee it.
google avatar

Crystal N.

Yelp
Beautiful wall full of graffiti/art walking distance from other popular landmarks in Prague. My favorite part is the guy with the guitar playing Lennon's songs as visitors stop by. The wall is rather smaller but still adequate for grand pictures. Most of the graffiti here seems to cover what could've been better in the past- the top of the walls were my favorite because it reflected the message of John Lennon and seemed to be uncovered by people wanting to leave their marks. Regardless, the wall was great to look at and to read.

Yelp
We stopped by here on May 10th' 18 during our vacation in Prague. There were a lot of people there and you have to wait in line and find a space for taking your photo. The Lennon Wall or John Lennon Wall is located close to Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic. Once a normal wall, since the 1980s it has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs. The wall itself is colorful and beautiful to see with bright vibrant colours & paintings. Now, a lot of people have put their own mark on the wall with tags and other quotes and so it's less of a 'John Lennon' wall. I recommend if you have fifteen minutes of your time and plus it's also a free attraction. Further down from the wall is the Lovers Bridge where you can leave a padlock on the fence with your and your loved ones name on it. After you cross the bridge you will find the John Lennon pub.
google avatar

Sudipto G.

Yelp
Make your way here after you've fought with a million tourists while crossing the charles bridge. The alleyways around this place are quaint and cute, and are as much fun as the main wall itself. The graffiti keeps changing is what I'm told, and it is a great place for a photo-op!
google avatar

Sonya V.

Yelp
I am so sad all the tourists blocked my pics! This is a block-long area in Lesset Town near the River/bridge. There is a tall wall dedicated to Lennon with art, displays, graffiti. Down a bit is the John Lennon Pub. The street is pedestrian and cobblestone with shade trees and a few benches. Take a few minutes after a meal in Lesser Town to stretch your legs and experience the current culture of the City.
google avatar

Abegail A.

Yelp
Although smaller than I thought it would be, this bright, vibrant wall is worth a visit before crossing the Charles Bridge into Old Town. When I went it was mainly covered with graffiti art, but had some inspiration quotes and messages mixed in. I like how the wall changes constantly as it gets painted over and people keep adding to it daily. In the late evening during the week there was a fair amount of people there taking pictures or just gazing at the wall. However, taking pictures in front of the wall wasn't difficult at all.
google avatar

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
If you have time, cross the Charles Bridge and take a short walk to find the John Lennon Wall. This wall was known for its graffiti art based on Lennon-inspired lyrics on peace. However, nowadays people have also spray painted messages on other global issues. The artwork on the wall is still worth checking out. Note that the wall changes all the time. It keeps getting repainted over. One day it can be bare white, and the next it can be completely covered. When I was there, there was a guy singing and playing Beatles songs.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
The youth of the 80's painted this wall currently owned by the Knights of Malta. I was filled with inspirational quotes and song lyrics about peace, love back in the day, but now it's filled with none sense. I read that it keeps changing, and people keep adding different types of art. I'm still a fan because I like graffiti art. Hopefully, someone will add something more positive and inspiring.
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
A visit to this wall is a must when in Prague. Go back the next day and see how it changes with new urban art. Early evenings are best for fewer crowds and a more chill experience, especially if someone is busking some good tunes. Good times in Czech Republic!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Was mostly just graffiti, so was underwhelmed compared to what I expected. But still cool to see!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Its ok, kind underwhelming, I was hoping for great graffiti artwork, but most of the "art" are just amateurs.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Honestly, the John Lennon Wall is a bit of a let-down for me especially given the hype behind this place for visiting Prague. First of all, most of the traditional John Lennon Wall designs were completely overwritten by newer and worse graffiti, which does not make sense. I am not sure how this wall is maintained, but whoever is doing the new graffiti update to the wall is doing an extremely poor job. Given the famous nature of this wall, there is an unusually large crowd. Most people are walking around with selfie-sticks or asking their friends to take a good photo. So be prepared to wait a while if you want the crowds to clear. But as I mentioned, the wall is now a mess, so I am not sure if there is much aesthetic value left in visiting this.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
Eh, it's a graffiti covered wall, not the coolest thing there is to see in Prague, but I can vibe with what it stands for. You'll see many tourists posing in front of it, and it is definitely a cool place for a portrait, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make sure I see it. The area it is in is great for just strolling on your way to get to the Prague castle area, easy to get lost though.
google avatar

Kailyn T.

Yelp
In the 1980's Czech youth painted a portrait of John Lennon on this wall in Prague, along with song lyrics and inspirational quotes. Despite attempts to cover the graffiti, art continued to spring up until the Knights of Malta (current owners of the wall) gave up trying to get rid of it and let the painting continue into the evolving project it is today. Our tour guide told us ahead of time that one of the coolest parts of the wall was the fact that it changes each time he comes back to visit as new pieces are added. Even as we stood there we watched it transform as other tourists, and us once we borrowed the spray paint, added our marks. Layer upon layer of sharpie and paint on the wall have come to represent peace, love and freedom - and it's a really awesome thing to see. Although this wall may not satisfy your needs to see super artistic graffiti, and not everything is themed on John Lennon anymore, the majority of the wall (at least at the time I saw it) still does embody the peace and love aspects that it was originally created for. It's a short walk away from the bridges, and is definitely a neat little spot to stop to add some color to your foggy day.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
This was a quick stop. It's a wall with inspirational messages of peace. It's a good photo opportunity which also makes it slightly annoying and crowded since many people were posing in front of it. It's great because it's free and quick but I wouldn't go out of your way just to see the wall. However, it is in an amazing area (Mala Strana) which you should check out either way. It's close to the Charles Bridge so just add it to your walking plan and keep it moving.
google avatar

Clay G.

Yelp
The Lennon Wall is an interesting location. I'm not entirely sure why it exists, but we decided to stop by here on our last day in Prague. The lower levels have been painted over a number of times, but you can see the upper levels are older. This is something to stop by and take a picture at, but not a necessity. It's cool to say I saw it, but my trip would've have been any lesser without it.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
It's free, colorful, and close to all the cool sights in Prague. You should absolutely go see this wall. Close to Kampa park and Kampa museum, this wall is just an easy walk over the small waterway. There are no markings to show the way, so bookmark it and then follow your map. You'll know when you arrive! The nice things about this wall are the color and messages from all over the world. It's a brief stop of no more than 10 minutes and it's a great photo op!
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
This is definitely worth visiting but you will be with 5000 of your closest friends. If you're looking to have less people in your pictures I would advise going early in the morning or later in the evening. However if you go in the evening you may not get the full effect as there is a lot going on and very vibrant colors.
google avatar

Derek W.

Yelp
Interesting history of how new ideas and people can make changes! Since the 1980s, this wall has been painted and repainted with graffiti and lyrics from the Beatles, flows typically appear, and other peace/revolutionary symbols. To this day, the wall is continually painted over with new symbols even though in the past, it was covered with white paint and other colors to have the graffiti stop, but never did. Very easy to see since it is not far from the King Charles Bridge.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Some sights are meant to be super serious such as certain museums, battlefields etc. The John Lennon Wall is a serious piece of art but it exists in a whimsical kind of way. It is not easy to find even though it's not very far from the Charles Bridge. We are very good with directions but gave in and asked some local girls who guided us to the wall. Take some time to look through the various graffiti which is interesting and very colorful. The won't find a better place for a photo op. I would like to tell you to look for certain artwork but the wall is constantly updated with new graffiti. One more reason why The John Lennon Wall is special.
google avatar

Connie N.

Yelp
Cool wall; however, I think it has lost its significance because a lot of the graffiti/art that is on the wall has no relevance to John Lennon anymore... Positive - there was a street performer on his guitar singing Beatle's songs which provided a nice nostalgic ambience
google avatar

Kanchan B.

Yelp
Love love love the artistry of this wall and how the graffiti and sentiments are not at all cloying but instead heartfelt and an outpouring of emotion for a man and his music that has touched countless of millions of people. The afternoon we wandered by, there was a band playing Beatles songs so simply a perfect moment! One tip- walk on up from the wall and round the corner is a wonderful church of Maltese Knights from the 14th century!
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
This colorful fun wall near the Charles Bridge is a worthwhile visit on a quiet shady street. On the day we arrive it wasn't over crowded. Just time it before the tour groups flood the area or patiently wait until they leave. It is like a flash mob and then they are off! There's only so much time you can spend here but then take time to wander around the quaint quite neighborhood away from the mass of people on the bridge.
google avatar

Eddy P.

Yelp
We stopped here part of the tour of the town. Such a cool and inspirational wall of art. Take the time to admire the art from one end to the other . Great place to relax, take a break from exploring and to take photos. A must visit when in Prague.
google avatar

Kanika B.

Yelp
So colourful. Lovely sayings on the wall. There's a guy singing Lennon songs which added to the whole experience. There's a wall close by wirh locks . I just wish there was somewhere we could buy a lock and write on it and add it.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
A must see while in Prague. It was super crowded on the day I went so it was a bit difficult to get a picture in front of the wall without a stranger in it. The wall does provide an excellent backdrop for photos. It's very close to the Charles Bridge so it's definitely possible to hit these both up around the same time.
google avatar

Michaela P.

Yelp
I would love to share with you this Hidden Gem in english, as although I spent few years in Prague, I only discovered it recently! Jirka K. had some gorgeous insights about it. First one is, that in the 70s during strict regime the wall was often painted white and the next day was again filled with signs. At this moment, when I was passing with my guests, unfortunately I found out that the popular portrait of Lennon, is already painted over : ( a pity, but he stayed there for quite a few years. Although we do miss John on the wall, now there is a bright yellow submarine that really light up your tourist pictures. Last fun fact from Jirka is, that the wall is owned by Knights of St. John, that approved the drawing on the wall, so feel free to add some of your art, police will not chase you :)

Gene H.

Yelp
Was here last year and enjoyed the John Lennon Wall and the John Lennon Pub around the corner. Went back this year while visiting Prague and was sorely disappointed with both. The Lennon Wall has successfully been turned into the Wall of Pathetically Bad Graffiti. In a year this Wall has been transformed into a Lennon exhibit with some decent artwork to a filthy mess of nonsense graffiti by hack artists. The Lennon Pub too is run by rude girly men and stupid waitresses who should in no way be working in the service industry. We were treated so rudely here by the staff that we left without paying. The staff tried to block the door and force us to pay for food we hadn't even received yet. These folks are crooked, unscrupulous, and extremely rude. Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other really nice pubs, cafes, and restaurants to eat at in the same area. If John Lennon was alive today he'd slap the stink out of these fools.

Yelp
Amazing intersection of Iron Curtain demise and impact of western iconic cultural voices.

Yelp
I loved coming here it's a definite must if you ever visit Prague! The wall is so colorful and filled with so many different and meaningful messages. There's also a man who plays and sings Beatles songs which I find adds so much to this site. Many great photos to be taken here.
