Leonardo Trulli Resort (Locorotondo, Puglia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The conical structures known as trulli are among the most distinctive of Puglia’s traditional building forms, and it’s perhaps unsurprising that Leonardo Trulli Resort leans all the way in to the charm of these whitewashed stone buildings. It’s set on the outskirts of Locorotondo, an inland town midway between Bari and Brindisi, and it benefits from the pastoral tranquility of its rural setting." - Tablet Hotels

My wife and I spent three days here at the end of our visit to Puglia, and it was one of the top two hotels of our trip. I was looking for a luxurious massaria in the countryside to serve as a base to explore the trulli area and to relax after 3 weeks of traveling. Leonardo Trulli resort fit the bill. |The weather was a bit too wet and chilly for us to try the heated mineral pool, although there were other guests using it. The grounds are lovely, with herb gardens and olive trees. We were there for the annual olive harvest. We were there also for an annual local run which the owner, Rosalba, helps sponser. Lots of local runners of all ages and abilities.|The restaurant is exceptional. Delicious breakfasts with an array of fruits, pastries, and fresh yoghurt, as well as hot dishes on request. Although we had planned just to eat one dinner there, we ate there all three nights. The chef is quite creative, using local ingredients with international style. There is a small but good quality selection of local and Italian wines. He noticed that we were eating butter, rather than olive oil, with his delicious local bread, and he made brioche rolls just for our table because he felt that that went better with butter! (Both breads were excellent.)

We first found Leonardo Trulli Resort whilst looking for our wedding venue. From the moment we arrived we knew this place was special and then as soon as we met Rosalba the owner, we knew it was the place for us. We have been to the resort over 4 times while planning the wedding and every time has been like a tranquil holiday with a beautiful setting, incredible food but most importantly impeccable hospitality. The staff are just wonderful, in particular Alessia who could and can make anything happen. Our wedding was everything you could had dreamed of. Every little detail was taken care of in the most beautiful way and in a very unconventional way, even helped us move the wedding day to the next day due to a very unexpected and uncommon rain. It felt easy and stress free because that’s how they made us feel. Leonardo Trulli Resort will be a place we visit every two years if not every year. The team are incredible and the venue can only be described as luxury but with a family run vibe. Oh and shout out to Michael the amazing chef. Very generous, friendly and creative. I could keep going on and and on about this place..!!!

Leonardo Trulli Resort is something very special indeed. We have visited here many times over the years and it never ceases to amaze and impress us. There is such a beautiful calmness about this place as soon as you arrive. Leonardo is surrounded by lavender bushes, scented herbs, lots of olive trees, lemon trees and rose bushes. Beautiful stone paths lead you around the stunning grounds. On arrival, you will be greeted by either the fabulous Rosalba, Alessia or Giovanni with such warmth, kindness and a great willingness to help you on your arrival, be it with your lugguage or the offer of drinks and snacks, either outside by the amazing natural salt pool, or in the bar. After you have been shown to your beautiful room, you may even wish to go into the restaurant to have a delicious lunch. There is always someone available to help you. Leon is full of so much knowledge, a very kind, sweet and gentle man, or Stefania, Pasqua and many more lovely members of the Leonardo team always willing to help.|The food here is incredible, with the evening menu changing daily. The very talented chef Francesco will cater to your every need. Along with the amazing selection at breakfast all of the food is so fresh, seasonal and locally sourced; some of it will even come direct from the grounds of Leonardo itself. This year we were lucky to be able to watch the harvesting of their olives on site, which was quite a thrill. Leonardo staff show pride, passion and kindness in all that they do. The rooms are spotless and cosy, the beds are very comfortable.|There are many beautiful hilltop towns to visit, none better than the very local Locorotondo - a very pretty place to explore. We walked into Locorotondo for a bit of exercise one morning! So many cafes and restaurants to choose from if you wish to eat out. Lots of quirky little streets to investigate; a very pretty town.|The whole experience is one of understated luxury and tranquility, above and beyond our expectations.|We shall continue to return again and again.

Hands down one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in my life. My husband and I recently stayed for a few nights at Leonardo Trulli resort and were amazed by the attention to detail at every moment. The staff were attentive and helpful at all times and we enjoyed our chats with Luciano and Simone in between service. What a wonderful team! We enjoyed a cooking class on our first night (we are actually recreating that meal right now as I type this review), enjoyed a bike ride through the country on our second day, and on our final morning we had a lovely yoga class on-site. I can’t wait to come back again with friends and family soon!

I am really struggling with this review. Our arrival didn’t start off too well. We had been traveling around all day in a chilly rain, we got lost multiple times close to the resort trying to find the entrance because the signage is NOT obvious until you’ve already seen it once and Google Maps can’t find it. Then we got to reception, and the screen door was open but there was no one there, no note (we are thinking that we must have gotten buzzed through the gate by someone). Finally after almost 15 minutes, Giovanni arrived. He walked us to our trullo (oregano), then said he’d drive our car around. It was about another 20 minutes when he arrived with the car and helped us bring our luggage in. We travel pretty light-a rollaboard and secondary bag each, but the paths around the trullo are narrow and fairly overgrown (given the rain, we were brushing against wet foliage to get through the path-not a huge deal, but not a resort sort of experience). The trullo is small, which we expected, but very cool, with nice linens and reasonably comfortable bed but no place to sit other than the bed (it was too cold and wet to take advantage of the loungers nicely placed outside of the trullo). Nice electric pot for hot water. The room was clean and serviced well. Two quibbles with the room, though-one, it’s very poorly lit. If you need to do makeup, you’re essentially doing it in the dark. I realize there’s an atmosphere to be created, but this is a little too much. The second quibble is personal — the front door has full length hanging chains all the way across it. I have no idea what purpose they are supposed to serve, but they can’t be retracted, and getting out the door with a backpack or suitcase is a little ridiculous.||Giovanni was the only managing staff member we met during our entire 3 night stay, so the frequent comments in the reviews about owner Rasalba drew a blank. We did have two wonderful cooking classes with Chef Francesco, and also worked with Stefania and Leone from the restaurant, and they were all very good. ||It was difficult to resolve some discrepancies in the package we bought and paid for a year ago with management. We are not typically demanding guests, but feel like services offered and paid for should be provided (the first dinner was four courses and not the six paid for), or notice should be given that they can’t be. We went back and forth via WhatsApp with Giovanni to try to get closer to what we had previously confirmed (starting times, duration, purpose of the lessons) after we were told the day we arrived that plan had changed. Ultimately, we left relatively satisfied (the second dinner was seven courses 😎), the chef clearly stepped up the second lesson, which was excellent, but we had a fair bit of stress before that about scheduling our classes (we had day-long trips planned during those days; activities we had also already paid for and, frankly, did not want to miss). To us, it seemed that there was some disorganization at the management level.||Finally, if you are staying in one of the trulli, it’s more like glamping, as you will be walking through overgrown shrubbery to the restaurant for dinner and breakfast (both of which are lovely). There doesn’t seem to be any place in the main area like a lounge or sitting room, where one could relax or have a cocktail (if there is one, we weren’t made aware of it). There’s nothing wrong about this, of course, but people should be aware that this may not be what they think of as a luxury/exclusive resort. ||That said, with a few bumps along the way that some staff training in customer service and hospitality could resolve, it’s a unique and lovely experience.

We stayed for 5 nights. There is definitely room for improvement here. |Giovanni and the girl on reception were both very friendly and helpful with any questions that we had. |However, the service around the pool could be massively improved. Not once did someone come round and ask if would like a drink - we had to get up from the lounger and wait for someone to come to the bar and serve us if we wanted a drink. They also didn’t provide any nibbles with our apertivo - we had to ask for nibbles and then on check out they had charged us a couple of euros for them! |The sun loungers are really close together, and they let people smoke around the pool and on the loungers which is not nice for non smokers. The jets along the length of the pool didn’t work for the entirety of our stay (just 2 on the side worked). Nobody showed us where the spa was or padel court. |The room was clean, with nice bedding, however the aircon was poor. |The grounds could benefit from a good tidy up. Appreciate they may be going for the ‘rustic’ look, however it did look quite messy in some areas. There was also a lot of noise from ongoing construction work near by. |The owner walked past us several times but sadly never once stopped to speak to us or ask about our stay.

This is the best place that we have stayed in Italy so far, It is beautiful and very well maintained with a beautiful pool. The dining room is great with a wonderful breakfast and dinner. We loved the location and found it convenient to all of our planned activities. I was particularly happy to stay in a trulli house. Giovanni was very responsive to all of our needs. I can not say enough nice things about The Leonardo Trulli Resort.

A hidden gem in Puglia...Our plan was to stay for two nights and we extended our stay for 6 nights. We had the pleasure of waking up in different trullo everyday and we were able to get to know each of the rooms. We got to know the hole resort and felt like in a fairy tail, nature high. All of them were wonderful and cozy. A magical garden that delights with the scent of herbs and flowers. A beautiful landscaped vegetable garden, olive trees and lemons... At least 8 different kind of butterflies spotted. The breakfast was lovely with the own growth from the garden, homemade cakes, bread etc. The dining experience was excellent. We had the perfect break and couldn't ask for more. The stuff was incredible friendly and assisted us in all ways. We had a wonderful time and getting back there in winter time to enjoy family & friends and not forget to mention, the heated pool then! |The highlight was definitely the trulli with the private pool - cave pool.||Especially thanks to Alessia.|See you soon again!!!|Best wishes from Athens,||Kat & Giannis
