We loved the original bakery so much that we decided to make a stop at the truck after a snorkel at Hanauma bay. Tastes just as good, but not as many flavours as the store. We got the haupia this time. But my favourite is still custard.

Barb P

Google
The original malasada was the best and SO delicious!! Cinnamon was fine. I didn’t like the Li Hing (sweet and sour). The Haupia custard was good. Highly recommend getting 6.

I’m not a guest

Google
Sooooo good! Love the texture of the donuts! And they’re fresh. Not too sweet either. We ordered all 6 flavors.

Google
Was on the Oahu to do list. Definitely have to try. Oddly enough I liked the dusted malasada's better than filled (though it was also good). Better than ones I found premade as these were still steaming doughy tasty.

Nothing hits harder after a hike than these babies. Especially for the price. My favorite are definitely the custard and coconut but all of the flavors are amazing and I recommend trying every single one. The service is pretty awful I’ll be honest 😂 but I’m sure the workers aren’t paid a nice wage and probably tired of all the influencers showing up and taking the same photo and asking the same questions they’ve seen and heard 400 billion times, so I can’t fault them for the chip they have on their shoulder. I still come here all the time regardless. They also take card now! For a while it was cash only, but now it’s card only, at least at this specific Leonard’s, so be sure to have one on you.

Ronald

Google
Freshly fried, soft on the inside, and delicately crisp on the outside. I tried the chocolate and the coconut. The fillings are generous, the dough is melt in mouth tender, and the flavors are just sweet enough without being overwhelming.

Debby

Google
Came here after Koko Crater. Exactly what I needed and it’s as good as everyone is saying especially the li hing flavor. SO GOOD. There was no line at this truck. Definitely stop there if you’re on that route. Yum!

We were driving around the island exploring and stopped at this Leonard’s location. We got one of each malasada. They were hot, fresh, and delicious!!! We got there just in time before the crowd rolled in behind us. Parking in this shopping center is tight, but well worth the visit.

Yelp
This is a food truck located in a plaza with lots of parking. I got the haupia (coconut) filled malasada. Since it was made to order, it was super crunchy and had a really nice texture. The filling was also a strong coconut flavor like coconut milk or cream. I loved it since I love all things coconut.

Yelp
One of my Uber drivers recommended going to Leonard's to try the malasada, so here I am in front of this food truck. We ordered three different flavors to try out. The Haupia (Coconut) ($2.25) and the Cinnamon Sugar ($1.85) were really good. The Li Hing (Sweet & Spicy) ($1.85) we would have passed on. For sure a great dessert option. Lower rating due to the service itself. The guy we ordered from was more interested in being on his cell phone than taking our order. Was not friendly and the overall interaction he was rude.

Yelp
Visited Leonard's Bakery after a hike and it definitely hit the sweet tooth. We ordered a 6 piece box for Malasada Puffs. We ordered 2 of each of Custard, Dobas, and Haupia. In order, my favorite was the Haupia following with the Custard and Dobas. Husband's favorite was the Custard. Be liked the others equally. None of them overly sweet, which was perfect and the filling was throughout the inside of the puff. It wasnt a quick squeeze and done. Overall, I definitely recommend for malasadas!

Yelp
We had just hiked Koko Crater and our friend wanted to show us his favorite spot for malasadas - Portuguese styled fried donuts - which are a very popular snack in Hawaii. This spot in particular was located in a shopping center and had the convenience of being a food truck! Easy to order for takeout. There are a few tables to the side to enjoy your treats while they're fresh and hot. There's options to choose either original malasadas with various flavored sugar, and an option to have them with cream filling. Honestly if I got the chance to visit again I'd get the cream filling option, the filling is so light and the donuts are so fluffy! I'm glad I was able to try this popular Hawaiian snack and at Leonard's no less as they're very well known to locals.

Yelp
After a long, sweaty hike, there's only one thing that can truly restore my energy, hot, fresh malasadas from Leonard's. But my excitement quickly faded when I remembered that Leonard's was out of the way for us - super sad face . As we drove on my husband caught a glimpse of the Leonards malasada truck in the Koko Marina Center parking lot. Omg! We speed over to it, only to find a long line. But in a rare twist of fate, this was actually a win, the line was long enough to keep them open past closing time (score!). I've never had malasadas from this truck before, and I have to say they might actually be better than the Kapahulu location (they seem more fresh). They even have picnic tables to the side to enjoy them right out of the fryer before you head in your way. The guys running the show were so friendly and awesome despite their closing time of 6pm, they kept serving up batch after batch to take care of everyone, sadly we saw them turning people away at around 6:30 pm but gotta applaud their efforts! And the malasadas? Still the same fried, sugary perfection from my childhood... golden brown on the outside, warm, and pillowy goodness on the inside. The original will always be my number one, but the haupia filling? So delicious Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Thank you malasadas gods for making my deep-fried post hike dreams come true.

Yelp
I enjoyed the li hung mui and plain- the filled ones were a bit too sweet in my opinion, but were fun to try. The parking space is limited but people come and go so you'll just have to wait a bit for that
google avatar

Yelp
These Malasadas are legit! Those filled ones, I could easily smell the fragrant coconut and vanilla creams before I tried to pick them up with one hand and nearly broke my wrist they were SO stuffed with deliciousness. Super quick service with a smile! Hot and delicious! We honestly could not have asked for anything more. We went to the truck at Waikele outlet Center. Easy parking and multiple other opportunity for bits and pieces to grab for the day.

Yelp
If you're going to Hawaii and watch any travel vlogger, you probably heard of Leonard's Malasadas and debated if they are worth standing in line for. You're in luck. You can try with virtually no line by finding one their food trucks. Just Google map it. The malasada, a small, deep fried dough confection, has become integrated into the broad spectrum of "local food." The Portuguese sweet treat was first brought to Hawaii by Portuguese laborers from the Azores and Madeira Islands who came to work in the sugar plantations. Leonard's Bakery has been delighting locals and tourists alike with their delicious Portuguese-style donuts since 1952. The malasadas themselves are, sugar intensive, sweet perfection--crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. If that's not your deal, you can probably skip, but they are worth trying if you've never had one. If you've thought, you know what would make a donut better, more calories, then this is for you. Whether you prefer the classic sugar-coated version or the stuffed Malasada Puffs filled with flavors like guava, coconut, chocolate, and more, there's something for everyone. We usually stick with the original. The staff at Leonard's Malasadas food truck are friendly and accommodating, always ready to help you choose the perfect treat. Plus, the food truck is often parked at convenient locations like shopping centers, making it easy to grab a box of these delectable pastries on the go. In short, Leonard's Malasadas food truck are a great alternative to the store. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a long-time local, you won't be disappointed by the warm, freshly-made malasadas that will leave you craving more.

Yelp
Leonard's Bakery Food Truck is an absolute gem! If you're visiting the island, this spot is a must-visit for any donut lover. Their fluffy fried donuts are nothing short of heavenly. I tried the chocolate, coconut, and cream-filled varieties, and each one was a delightful treat--perfectly light and bursting with flavor. The classic sugar donuts are also a standout. They're so simple yet so satisfying, making them a timeless favorite. The best part? The friendly service and the welcoming vibe make you feel right at home while you indulge in these delicious treats. Don't miss out on this island favorite; it's a destination in itself! If you're on the hunt for some of the best donuts around, Leonard's Bakery Food Truck should be at the top of your list. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Very highly recommended when in Honolulu!!! Malasada is the famous Portuguese hole less deep fried doughnuts. They are coated with sugar , fluffy inside and some are filled with coconut or vanilla custard! This food truck mobile is located inside the Koko Marina Shopping Center parking lot. Donuts are so delightful to eat and am so happy to eat them !!

Yelp
Hawaii's original malasada bakery [Honolulu HI] The Leonard's mobile trucks are a nice option when we couldn't make it to their bakery on Kapahulu Ave. We stopped by the Koko Marina Shopping Center for their delicious hot and fresh malasadas and got one each of the Original, Cinnamon and Li Hing malasadas. There was a line at 9:00a but it went fairly quickly -whew- right after I got in line a whole tour bus parked and lots of tourists got behind me. That same Saturday morning also there happened to be a flash flood warning that alerted our phones. It was raining off and on but, luckily, we were still able to get our malasadas LoL! Yummy pastry dough w/ golden brown crust. Inside is fluffy and light... the Li Hing flavor was new to me (sweet and sour sugar). The truck is located in a shopping center in East Oahu, near Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach. If you can't get to this one look for their other mobile trucks also at these locations: Waikele Shopping Center, Pearlridge Shopping Center and Windward Mall. Review #3581

Yelp
Last time we were in Hawaii, the line was wrapped around the block....this round the rain probably kept some people away. I believe my family really enjoyed the malasadas....they were warm, sweet and fresh! They were gone quick. I enjoyed the macadamia cookies mostly. Customer service was great. Glad we got to try them!
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Best Malasadas on the island! Always a line but it doesn't take very long to get through it.
google avatar

Yelp
These are similar to donuts, no offense. I had a custard puff which was very good. It came out very hot and it melted in the mouth with the coffee I bought down the stripe Mall that it's located near. They cost a little more than a donut and worth it. Parking can get difficult . They have outdoor seating.

Yelp
Incredible, life-changing, perfect... I'm at a loss for words to describe what it was like to try a Leonard's Malasada for the first time here. Given it's a malasada truck, they don't have a few of the flavors that you can find in their bakery location. They serve all the non-filled malasada flavors (original, cinnamon, li hing), but they only had 3 kinds of filled puffs: Custard, Chocolate, Haupia (Coconut). My family unanimously ranked them 1) Chocolate, 2) Haupia, and 3) Custard. The truck is located at the back of the parking lot close to the Walgreens. They have a few tables outside next to the truck where you can sit and eat your warm malasadas while they're still fresh. My pro tip: Do the famous Koko Crater Tramway hike 6 minutes away and then reward yourself afterward with these malasadas. After all that exercise, you'll deserve all the malasadas your wallet can buy!
google avatar

Ethan C.

Yelp
We got all the different malasadas they had with and without filling. My favorite was the one with haupia filling.
google avatar

Claire L.

Yelp
I had my first malasadas in Maui and definitely missed it greatly. The Leonard's fresh malasadas didn't disappoint us. However, the malasadas are kind big compared to what I had in Maui. But we had a lot of fun trying to finish the 6 we bought.
google avatar

Luis S.

Yelp
What more can I say? It's Leonard's--on wheels! The classic Leonard's malasadas, served fresh from a food truck. You might think they won't be as fresh as the ones from the iconic Leonard's shop, but trust me--they are. Fluffy, delicious, and everything you'd expect from Leonard's. If you see the Malasadamobile, do yourself a favor and pull over for one (or a dozen)!

Yelp
Luckily we were at haunama for the day and this was on our way back. The one in Waikiki was closed for renovations. The line moved at a decent speed. The custard is my fav. They were nice and hot when we got them. Grabbed some napkins and sat outside on the tables by the truck and gobbled them down. Nom!
google avatar

Cheol K.

Yelp
Love this location. We were on our way back from snorkeling at Hanauma Bay on Thanksgiving Day and saw they were open with limited hours. No line and place our half dozen order of malasadas. They were done quickly and were that amazing fluffy and warm maladies that I always remember. We had a plain sugar, haupia, and Bavarian cream version. All were amazing, warm, and cooked just right. Don't know anywhere else that makes them as good as Leonard's!

Yelp
Quick stop for breakfast / Snack Served hot and smell delightful Sweet crisp outside and choose the filling you like
google avatar

Yelp
This gem is located very close to Hanauma Bay. We stopped here four times for malasadas on our five day trip because they are so tasty! We had the original cinnamon sugar, custard and haupia (coconut cream). They come out hot and tasty! Nice crisp chewy outside and soft and tender insides! Our favorites are the cinnamon sugar and custard. service is not always the fastest, but well worth the short wait. If I had to complain, it would be that the fillings, custard or coconut cream in the haupia is light- they is only a couple bites of cream and most bites have no cream inside, but still delicious!

Yelp
Another spot the locals and tourists cannot resist. Very warm Saturday morning breakfast. Original served nice and warm. It was ok. Good location, great presentation, and service.

Yelp
I heard a lot about this place before my trip and was really excited when I saw all the positive reviews. We found the truck in a parking lot and there was a short line but it moves fairly quickly. After ordering it took us maybe 5-7 mins to receive our order. Only downside was that it was raining and there was no shelter/coverage while waiting. We ordered the custard filled malasadas with cinnamon sugar. The malasada itself was super fresh and pipping hot when we received it. Perfectly crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. The custard had a slightly coconutty flavor to it which I wasn't a fan of. I wish I ordered the chocolate filled one too. Overall I would try again if I'm back and def recommend to anyone!!
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
Located in a parking lot across from Walgreens. I heard it's great local spot for on Hawaiian twist on donuts. It was well worth it. Service was excellent and fast. Malasadas were made fresh on the spot. Tables were outside to sit, eat asn enjoy. I'll be back.

Yelp
Malasadas we're yummy We got the puffs and didn't disappoint Definitely recommend $15 in total

Yelp
I have to say, I was rather disappointed by experience at Leonard's bakery. This was my first time trying a malasada from Leonard's, though I've heard and seen great things. I drove to one of their food trucks, which was located in a shopping plaza parking lot, so it was super convenient. They also had some outdoor tables set up, too. I ordered six original malasadas to share with family and friends. (Gotta try the original before trying the flavored versions!) The service was relatively quick, and the box was steaming hot with the fresh goodies! However, upon opening up the box, I quickly realized that the color of the malasadas was a dark, dark brown. I didn't know if this was normal, so I just shrugged it off. When I ate it though, I couldn't ignore the suspicion that the batch I had received was burnt. Indeed, the bitter taste of burnt oil was overwhelming in masking any other flavors. Truly, I couldn't taste anything else. And all six of my malasadas were like this, which was a bummer to say the least. I even looked on Yelp to see other pictures from past reviews, but they didn't look as burnt as mine! So overall, I was disappointed. Hopefully, this was just a bad day for them, though.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
Great spot and no line unlike the one closer to Waikiki. They are in a parking lot so ample parking. We came around 11am and they still had ample to choose from. A must hit spot.
google avatar

Vivian A.

Yelp
Alright.. who's brilliant idea was it to park a malasadamobile over here? I was bummed when we missed the turn off to the one downtown but low and behold what do we got here?!?!? Skee skirted our way back (going to Hanauma Bay) and ordered our hot, fresh malasadas. They don't have as many of the filling options as the one downtown (your basic vanilla, chocolate and custard but didn't have ube or guava or any of the specialties). Darn you for parking one here: OK, we'll take a six pack please!
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with a fresh hot Malasada!! There's never been a crowd when I've been by between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., I love the custard and cinnamon sugar. I also hear the lihing is good but haven't tried it yet. On one occasion I had a malasada that was over fried and it was not pleasant, but otherwise it's always been good.
google avatar

yvette s.

Yelp
So this is one of those things that's super hyped up to try when in Hawaii that unfortunately for me was not it Wish I would of only bought one I didn't even eat the second one Customer service was meh They were just way to crispy on the outside for my liking and the inside was very soft and warm but had somewhat of a vinegar smell and flavor that I didn't like So this was a NO for me
google avatar

Dung N.

Yelp
These are the best malasadas ever! I love getting them whenever I visit Hawaii. We happened to be driving by and noticed that they have a food truck with no line! I got a box to 6 to share with hubby when I got back. I enjoyed the first one before getting in the car and it was hot, soft on the inside, with a slight crunch on the outside. I got a variety of plain, custard, and chocolate. I personally like them plain or with chocolate! They were so good that even the seagulls were about to attack me while holding my box LOL.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Love the Malasada's here. Got the custard and came out hot! Nice texture with delicious cream filling. Came out quick and cheap snack to go!
google avatar

Val R.

Yelp
Leonard's has been around for over 70 years since the early 1950's. Leonard's has the best malasadas on the island. The original store location is on Kapahulu Ave near Diamond Head. I stopped by the Mobile location in Hawaii Kai on my way to Kailua beach . I ordered 1 traditional malasada and 1 coconut cream filled (Haupia) . All I can say delicious! I highly recommend.
google avatar

Kim V.

Yelp
These are best eaten fresh so if you want to get some for later, just come by again. We got a dozen of them and even the next day they lose their luster quickly. But... fresh... hot damn! I tried the chocolate custard filling and it is quite chocolatey. My cousin tried all flavors and likes the original the best, but I think it depends on your taste. They are all good if you eat them soon after getting them! Keep in mind, these are not small either. When I've had malasadas elsewhere, they were about 1/2 the size of these. They are the legit size of regular donuts and they are cheap! $1.85 for non filled and $2.25 for filled donuts. An inexpensive treat that is really great with coffee or tea! They have several tables on the side of the truck if you can't wait to dig in.
google avatar

Phillip P.

Yelp
The og malasada portege donut u love. Pearl ridge by sears good get ono grindz w/ local and get knack!!!
google avatar

Alicia P.

Yelp
We were unexpectaed surprised to find the Malasadamobile on our drive back from beaches on the east side of the island! Luckily there was no line and I ordered a box for myself. They came out piping hot and crisp! So delicious, as I remembered. I think my favorites are the cinnamon sugar and the haupia filled! Leonard's has been making malasadas since 1952. It's no wonder they're the best!
google avatar

Dennis D.

Yelp
It was OK. For some reason, our malasadas were still raw. I think this is an anamoly and will try it again next time.
google avatar

Izza M.

Yelp
Definitely worth trying when you're in Hawaii. The malasadas were affordable, hot, and freshly made with excellent flavor. I'm taking off one star because the wait for four malasadas was over 10 minutes, which felt slow for a food truck with no line. Overall, though, it was a great experience.
google avatar

Staci L.

Yelp
It's like a light fluffy airy elephant ear donut. Warm and delicious. Definitely check out this food truck!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
When in Hawaii, I was told that I MUST try Leonard's malasada's. As I was in a time crunch before heading to the airport, we decided to go to the Malasadamobile aka food truck. It's located in Hawaii Kai on a parking lot of a big strip mall. Nadine C. met us there and treated us to these deliciousness. Mahalo! I got an original and huipa (coconut) malasada. Out the box, they were fresh and HOT! The Original (sugar) is a giant donut without the hole and comes hot and fluffy. It was yummy but mine was slightly undercooked which made it lack the fluffiness inside. It was still good and kind of reminded me of the mochi consistency. The Huipa filled one was delicious! The cream was not too heavy and the coconut flavor did not overpower. Leonard's Malasadamobile is the way to go if you don't have the time to go to the original location, refuse to wait in a long line, and deal with poor parking. However, you will need to forfeit the original experience and the additional flavors offered at the original location.
google avatar

Gage G.

Yelp
Omg these donuts are so good! We were originally planning on going to the actual Leonard's Bakery location but given our evening plans we didn't think there'd be enough time, but thankfully we drove past their food truck! I could smell their donuts as soon as I stepped out of the car this is a good, quick stop if you want to quench your sweet tooth cravings on
google avatar

Rey L.

Yelp
stopped by after lunch for this iconic treat. lived up the hype. warm and sweet and delicious. easily accessible in the parking lot of this strip mall. prices are pretty reasonable. we recommend.
google avatar

Jacey M.

Yelp
When you see the bright red striped food truck, you know you're in for a treat! We ordered 2 donuts and were taken aback by the warm donut sprinkled with sugar and filled with an oozing gelatinous filling. The chocolate filling was especially delicious. Even my mother, who usually doesn't like sweets, was astounded. Great donuts, great price, definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Ruth I.

Yelp
100/10!! If you love fluffy pastries, you HAVE to try this place out! If you like custard highly recommend getting the Custer filled masadas!! If you don't like the flavors get the empty one. They are sooooo good!! I will come here every time I go to Oahu!! I heard about this place and while we were driving around. I saw the truck from far away and asked my husband to turn around and get some pastries there! We did not regret turning around one bit! Def try this place!
google avatar

Jeancarlo P.

Yelp
FIRE!!!! Got the original, cinnamon, coconut, cream and jeeez these malasadas were so good! Need to come back and try the rest of the flavors!!
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
This is the first time I've had malasadas and the ones from Leonard's are absolutely delicious. The malasadas here are quite possibly the fluffiest doughnuts I've ever had in my life, not to mention they were not oily tasting at all. Though I personally not a fan of cream filled doughnuts, my wife passed on to me that she really enjoyed the custard and haupia ones. For $2.25 a piece, I thought these were very appropriately priced for the quality. I only ordered four in total so I did not receive my doughnuts in a box -- only a pink plastic bag. If you're snorkeling nearby at Haunauma Bay, definitely make a stop here for a sweet treat after a tiring day out in the ocean. Around 2:00 p.m. when I visited, there was not a single person in line waiting to order and finding a spot in the parking lot was relatively easy.
google avatar

Dagriff'S G.

Yelp
I am leaving a score of Three stars due to my lack of customer service from the mobile truck. I bought four Malasadas and didn't leave a tip. The service from the worker abruptly changed with somewhat of an attitude. I enjoy having a snack from Leonard's but today was an exception to the normal rule. Please correct accordingly by informing staff that TIPS ARE OPTIONAL AND NOT AN OBLIGATION. From a Loyal Customer
google avatar

Yelp
Yummmmmy, if you see a Leonard's bakery you MUST get some delicious Malasadas! They're soft and sweet, we got the sugared, filled custard and filled Haupia
