Leonardslee House at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (Horsham, West Sussex) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"High on a valley ridge in West Sussex, Leonardslee House is a 19th-century Italianate mansion set within the famed Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens. Its 10 bedrooms are each individually styled: statement wallpapers, hand-picked antiques, marble fireplaces with views over rhododendron gardens, vineyards, and rolling Downs. After-hours access to the gardens adds to the sense of escape, as does the restaurant, where dramatic, foraged tasting menus unfold against a backdrop of tiled floors, mirrored walls, and vineyard views. A quiet spot with good rooms, good food, and a view worth waking up to." - Tablet Hotels

Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens is a stunning place to visit, with its series of peaceful lakes, colourful plantings, and winding woodland paths. The gardens are beautifully maintained and offer a mix of open spaces, shaded walks, and sculptures, making it a lovely spot for both relaxing and exploring. Facilities are good, with toilets located near the main entrance and café, and there’s a small play area for children. The grounds are hilly in parts, so not every area is easy to reach, but overall it’s family-friendly and well set up for visitors. It’s worth noting that camping is not available here, as it’s a garden estate rather than a campsite. There are a couple of eating places on site, ranging from casual cafés to a fine-dining restaurant, though some visitors find the food pricey and limited at busy times. Still, as a day out, it offers beautiful scenery and a memorable garden experience.

A really beautiful private park. The flowers are in full bloom in April and May, but bustle of people are there then too. There is a large children's playground. There are beautiful sculptures located all over and they are for sale. There is a small lake where a model boat club has events occasionally. There are two cafes and a huge gift shop. There is a doll house museum containing the most amazing miniatures from 1900.

I love Leonardslee Gardens. They are always working hard to take it even more stunning. A new children's area has been built which is fantastic. Saw one of the wallabies today... the cafe is fab and standard pricing for a garden of this quality. Card only. I liked the large glass house which has newly planting in. Fab sculptures and trees. The main house, which is stunning, has 10 guest rooms and a Michelin star restaurant called interlude which I'm hoping to try soon. Also has a vineyard

Extensive grounds and lakes. Beautifully maintained. Adventure play park for children. Love the sculptures that are dotted around, though prices bring tears to the eyes ☺️. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dolls House museum was a delight.

Leonardslee offers a beautiful experience to walk around the tranquil grounds and see sculptures, rock garden (incredible btw), wallabies, plants & flowers, lakes and even a Dolls House museum. They have a plant centre, cafes & the obligatory gift shop.

Such a beautiful place to visit any time of the year. The gardens are stunning and there are many wonderful sculptures to see. The staff are always friendly and helpful and they hold various events throughout the year. The Christmas lights in particular are outstanding.

We visited today, an early April Saturday, and spent about five hours. There is lots to see, including flowering shrubs and trees, woodland walks, the lake and wallabies! I'm currently using crutches so I was apprehensive about some of the sloping ground, but there was a useful shuttle that took us down to the lake and back. The driver was very pleasant and helpful. The cafe stocks a variety of good quality sandwiches, snacks, soft drinks and cakes, as well as pizzas. I really enjoyed my visit, although I think we chose the wrong weekend to visit; we were between many of the early spring flowers and before the bluebells and late spring/early summer blooms.

First of all, thank you to Jean and his appearance on the Great British Menu, for drawing our attention to the delightful place. We visited in early April: the camelias were out in force and early Rhododendrons too. The gardens are no less than stunning; the sculptures are plentiful, tasteful and accessible - by which I mean they are not wacky or too modernistic. Admission is not cheap and parking adds £4.80 if you're not a member. It is "not permitted" to take in your own food and drink but we saw several couples and families sharing a picnic, discreet or otherwise. We picnicked in a grassy area next to the car park. Food could easily double the cost of your visit. Having commented on the cost, we felt it was excellent value and one of the most beautiful and well-maintained gardens we have ever visited in the UK. A special mention for the dolls house exhibition: that would not normally be my thing but it was very impressive. See the photo of the haberdasher's shop at 1/12 scale.

Yelp
Room unbearably hot. No a/c and poor customer service. Our friends stayed in another room and were given a portable air conditioner which cooled their room well. The hotel desk staff told us they were sorry but only had one unit. We asked to speak with the manager but never heard from anyone in management. We stayed four nights and couldn't sleep due to the heat of the rooms. The windows only open a crack for safety reasons. I would not recommend this hotel from June through October due to no ability to make the room comfortable. For a luxury hotel with high prices, it is disappointing that no one made an effort to make us comfortable in any way and didn't even make an effort to speak with us. Can't recommend this hotel at all.

Yelp
Beautiful gardens located on the edge of the High Weald of Sussex. Specialising in Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Camelials in incredible settings including numerous lakes and a very pretty rock garden. Other highlights include the wallabies and the dolls house exhibition. It's a real shame that the gardens will be closed to the punblic at the end of this month.

Yelp
small gardens, but lots to see. art in hidden amongst the plants and trees, and there is a fantastic miniature world of dolls houses in the old out buildings. Sadly the original house is not open to the public, but the wallabys in the grounds make up for that. Open 1 Apr to 31 Oct
