A Review of Hôtel Swexan in Dallas, Texas

"A graceful 20th-floor restaurant that evokes a picnic in the treetops, offering expansive Dallas skyline views and a relaxed spot for morning cappuccinos or starry al fresco-style dinners."

This place is a literal dream!!! The decor and atmosphere is top tier. Service was impeccable and food was delicious. Came on a Monday night for the “Taste of Léonie” and it was not very busy, so we were able to take plenty of pictures and even check out the little shop by the pool. This is the kind of place people dream of having lunch or dinner. For Primo, I ordered the hot honey & fennel ricotta - it was creamy with that delightful hint of sweet and spicy. My friend ordered the Caesar salad and it looked so creamy and crisp; she said it was one of the best Caesar salads she’s had. For Secondo, we ordered the 8oz HWD strip - it was good - not great. I ordered medium rare, but it was closer to rare (I didn’t mind too much and it still tasted good), but my friends was definitely more Medium well cooked. The strip had grit on one side of it, so I just cut that part off, but other than that, it was a good cut of meat and flavorful. I enjoyed the sunchoke purée with it - it was reminiscent of a chimichurri. The star of the show though - the Mille-Feuille!!!! The pistachio with the tart cherries and sweet sugar coated puff pastry - literally was on a way one ride to heaven. It was a flavor explosion on my tongue and I will be back specifically just for that!

We had a great time doing the Tea at Hotel Swexan. The atmosphere within Leonie was excellent and the staff were all extremely friendly. We got the Noel tea and an English breakfast tea which were both of high quality and tasted great. The food that they bring with the tea was also all very good. The scones were phenomenal and we really liked almost all of the middle tray finger foods. The desserts had great attention to detail and were also of high quality. We were blown away by this experience and would definitely come back.

Overall, the afternoon tea experience has room for improvement. First the positives - valet service was friendly and efficient when I arrived with four other friends. Guidance to the Leonie, which is tucked by the pool and has nice views of Uptown, was done with ease and polish. Ambience was as delightful as it appears in the photos. Service was somewhat inattentive. Our server Rodney did not walk us through the tea selections in detail and was unavailable for our questions about tea steeping. He reappeared to upsell us on champaign several times. When my water glass ran dry and I asked for it to be refilled, he said yes and never did. Tea sandwiches were precariously perched on metal trays adjacent to the table, which required pivoting and using tiny tongs to lift. Inevitably someone dropped one on the floor. Food overall was just ok compared to other high teas that I have had with the exception that the scones were well executed and showed good variety. The oddest sandwich was a bready pimento cheese with a small square of bacon on it. Desserts were so tall that one of them flopped over as seen in the photo. All in all, a bit mystified on why D Magazine called it the hottest new tea in town as service and food were underwhelming.

Came to Leonie for their holiday tea time and this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, perfect for a fun girls' dress up tea time or brunch. The tea service was $85 a person, 2 plates of sweets and 1 plate of savory, we enjoyed most of the bites and service was really great. My only two issues were: 1.) You only get one tea option per person, they do not offer tea coursing with the food like other tea times, the French Room for instance, serves several tea choices. 2.) The restaurant was almost empty the entire time we were there, yet they sat us at a table in the middle of the room with no view, would have been nice to give us a table in front of a window with a nice view considering we were one of very few reservations that booked several weeks in advance. It was a nice experience but likely will not return to this particular restaurant.

The starter bread was delicious, the main course salmon was nice and toasted on top with well cooked asparagus

Views are great and service was impeccable. Food was not good. We had the chicken polenta and meatball pasta. The chicken tasted overcooked / reheated, and the meatball pasta reminded me of the school cafeteria. Hope they get a decent chef and turn things around. The place is great otherwise and has a lot of potential.

Yelp
This review has nothing to do with the service, it was great. The food was terrible. The steak tastes like a boiled piece of meat - no flavor. The caesar salad's dressing is water. Also, a Tito's and soda is $20 and they tried charging $27 for a tequila soda. The best part of the meal was the bread. Save your money, go anywhere else.
