"You can depend on Leo’s having killer mozzarella, because it’s one of the city’s old-fashioned latticini, which make fresh Italian cheeses. For decades it was presided over by Nancy DeBenedettis, known as Mama, who died in 2009. Her magnificent hero features soft salami, a ham known as prosciuttini, pickled red peppers, and mozzarella (mushrooms optional), and she sprinkles on plenty of black pepper." - Robert Sietsema

Google
After nearly 15 years, I finally made it back to Leo's Latticini (aka Mama’s), and it was like stepping back in time! The same wonderful ladies are still running this authentic Italian deli, keeping the tradition and charm alive. If you're looking for true Italian food and products, this is *the* place to be. I ordered the Mama's Special, a perfect combination of Prosciuttini, Salami, and Mozzarella with Mushrooms and Peppers. It was as amazing as I remembered—packed with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. Every bite took me back to why this deli has stood the test of time. Leo’s Latticini is not just a deli, it's an institution. Whether you're a regular or it's been years since your last visit, the warmth and authenticity here never change. Highly recommend for anyone craving a taste of Italy!

Google
I flew down from Buffalo just to eat that sandwich. It was so delicious. The Italian, with mushrooms and sweet peppers. You go next door to the bakery and sit down to eat. I got a delicious cappuccino after my sandwich. It was a true treasure hunt. I highly recommend it.

Google
A bit overrated tbh. The cheese was nice and succulent but sandwich was kinda dry. Portions are huge however

Google
Traveling through the city and stopped for quick sandwich on way to LGA. Ordered it and ate it on the back number of pickup on the corner. Looked like the owner out front, she nicely smile and said Hi! Next thing we know Adam Richmond shows up they were filming. Just a chance visit heading back to Maine! But nice people and a GREAT Real Italian sandwich. No doubt I will visit if I am anywhere close again! A+!, even if no Adam!

Best Italian hero’s in Queens. Worth the stop. Be warned that they close early so make sure to check store hours. Excellent outdoor courtyard to eat your lunch.

Yelp
I was greeted by the owner after placing an order for the Turkey Deluxe. She was so incredibly nice and welcoming, and shared with me this eatery is indeed fact and institution to the area since-what? 1920? It's incredible that this place is still around and it is absolutely important that these New York originals do what they have to remain. It is these places that keep the spirit of New York as special as it is. The Turkey deluxe was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The gravy, made fresh daily, was perfectly savory without being salty or overpowering in flavor. The turkey felt like it was the best leftovers the evening after thanksgiving. You know how sometimes the turkey your grandmother made is somehow even better the next day? It was exactly like that, and with mozzarella. I had mine cold but definitely will have it hot next time for the variety. The bread was soft, fragrant, and had just the right amount of bite. The flavor profile was deepened by the gravy being soaked up. Again, big day after Thanksgiving vibes. All in all, I'm very happy and proud, as a native New Yorker, that these important places remain stalwart. Hope I can visit again soon.

Yelp
I got a nice italian hero with salami, ham, prosciutto, fresh home made motzarella, marinaded mushrooms, ref peppers, perfectly baked italian bread for lunch. I really wanted a hot sandwich but on weekends there is none. This means i will have to come back on a weekday to try the hot menu offerings. I was able to share my sandwich, as its loaded with meats, really hit the spotin taste and freshness.

Aaron Y.

Yelp
Great deli spot for classic Italian sandwiches. Got the mamas special and mozzarella hero. Both solid sandwiches filled with fresh ingredients and impactful flavor! Friendly staff, got to meet Irene too! Clean on inside and gives off homey vibes. If you also want to eat sandwiches at their garden, it's on the same block inside the cafe they co-own

Andrea U.

Yelp
This is the most famous Italian deli in Queens. It has been here and run by the same family for over 100 years. I've always wanted to stop and try their sandwiches, which are supposed to be outrageous. The food at the U.S. Open is notoriously expensive, so I'm happy were able to make the stop. I ordered the Mama's Italian hero special by phone & will pick it up in :30. Once I was here I realized that they had piles of ready made sandwiches to grab and go. Everything looked and smelled delicious. The shop was packed with gourmet Italian items piled up to the ceiling. Our sandwiches were delicious. The bread was so fresh, there were thick slices of fresh mozzarella, and the meat was generous. Lunch was a real treat.

M M.

Yelp
I'm so happy that we found Leo's! We had the Friday special eggplant parm hero. One was huge and enough for 2 of us to share. Super good, filling hot, homemade authentic Italian sandwich. Irene is wonderful and sweet.

Matthew A.

Yelp
Fantastic sandwiches. Had the Super Italian with oil/vinegar and hot peppers. Excellent choice! Great bread and great mozzarella. Will be returning.

Kevin

Yelp
Everything. This place is wonderful and old fashioned at its finest. I wish you would deliver

Franny A.

Yelp
Mama reigns supreme! The top tier Italian deli/ cheese shop on a key corner Corona that's big on the Mets and keeping Italian traditions going.. she's an ideal ambassador for culinary legacy here in Corona. Big stop for Mets fans I hear. I understand the sandwiches are top notch but we bought Italian staples like fresh mama made mozzarella and imported Italian olive oil & artichoke. All Jarred goods were wrapped on Leo's butcher paper and you feel the love and traditions here.

Perry S.

Yelp
Great stuffed Schell's and sandwiches, the best! Meatballs are wonderful. Everything here is delicious, almost as good as my grandmothers.

Nancy L.

Yelp
The special is a great sandwich! Love it! And the pastries next store are the best! Owner id a lovely lady and very welcoming

Jim B.

Yelp
The last bastion of old-school Italian sandwich joints in Corona. Make sure you stop by and pick up a Mama's Special before this famous landmark fades away like nearly everything else has in Corona.

Jake S.

Yelp
I would say this is the best place to get a sandwich in New York City. I've come back many times. I love watching them make the sandwich and putting on the gravy. You always get a full sandwich and they are not cheap or the meat or the sides.

Cinthia K.

Yelp
This place has been around for a long while, but I only came here for the first time this past summer, and now, whenever I find myself in the area, I try to come by here for a nice fresh sandwich for lunch. I'll usually get their fresh mozzarella hero, and I'll add tomatoes and peppers as well. They have hot tray daily specials, as well as other specialty Italian ingredients. I love that they're Mets fans and I want to try to support these guys as it's rare to see businesses last for decades now.

Mark R.

Yelp
Love this place!! Awesome Hero's and sandwiches. Can't go wrong with the Turkey-FresH Mozzarella-Peppers-hero with brown Gravy. Also have great hot dishes like home-made ravioli. Great place to stop when going to a Mets game or other event at Citi-Field. Owner is great!!

Sean C.

Yelp
Momma Mozz is an amazing lady. There's few places left like this and this place is a gem.

Alan K.

Yelp
Great sandwich. The turkey and mozzarella was amazing. Going to make it my sandwich place of choice.

Brent L.

Yelp
All around great! I've been here many times. Never disappoints. Classic in the area and a must for anyone who knows what to look for.

Thomas R.

Yelp
Been going for years. Always excellent. The new girl needs to put more on the fresh roast beef sandwich. Kind of short changed me today. Hopefully she gets better.

Rubian S.

Yelp
Great hero's and hot food weekly specials. Staff are friendly and super attentive. Shop is an icon for many years and the last block left of the old Italian neighborhood. Highly recommend you eat your lunch in the backyard bakery.

Moshe F.

Yelp
A unique neighborhood landmark that lives up to its reputation for old-school homemade quality and value for money. Their sandwiches can't be beat.

Natasha G.

Yelp
Mama's is fiercely local, deeply rooted in the neighborhood, and consistent in its delivery of Italian American classic sandwiches. Don't come here expecting dainty, hipster-nouveau-rustic, European food: this is not the place you're looking for. But, if you want a thicc sub that will delightfully fall apart in your fists during your sunny picnic in nearby Flushing-Meadows Park, Mama's will help you out. You can also come here to get cold cuts, various antipasti, Italian pantry goods, and, down the block at their bakery, Italian pastries, but I've really only come for the classic sandwich with a bunch of layered meats, cheese, pickles, and mushrooms. I am tbh always too scared to ask for any modifications to the Mama's special sandwich but I am always thrilled to eat what they give me. Is it the absolute best Italian American hoagie you're ever going to eat? I'd probably pick, locally, Stretto Bros in LIC over Mama's. But, there is something that feels "authentic" (I know, I know, the word is cringe now) about Mama's, and it's a real local mainstay that seems to have been here for generations, with the original "Mama's" daughter running the show. Come for the sandwich, find vibes that are increasingly rare in NYC, and enjoy their hospitality!

Rvgdallas R.

Yelp
It is absolutely delicious!!! Friendly service, everything is fresh and clean. I also had a latte, and it was made perfect. Coffee was fresh.

Fran B.

Yelp
Everything is amazing. You won't be disappointed. I drive 40 miles there because there is none as good nearby.

Mike M.

Yelp
When I lived in New York it was one of my Favorite places to have lunch or dinner. I would say it's one of the best sandwich places in NYC . It's been around for as long as I can remember. And even today the same family is still there. If your in Queens by Citi Field its a MUST visit. Whenever I have to travel to NY I try to visit this place. Real authentic and old fashion. Don't forget the fresh mozzarella on anything you have.

Grace P.

Yelp
This place is a neighborhood gem. Stopped by on Tuesday to pick up couple of heroes for a Mets doubleheader - Mama's Special and Roast Turkey with gravy. Each hero was longer than a foot long and stuffed like crazy. The Mama's Special had red peppers, mushrooms, salami, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. The Roast turkey had some tasty bird, gravy and fresh mozzarella as well. The sandwiches were heavy, tasty and provided enough sustenance so we could enjoy eight hours at the ballpark. Total was $23 - may seem pricey, but they were damn tasty and a bargain compared to what they're peddling at Citi Field.

Lou D.

Yelp
This is an absolute MUST. Worth the trip if not in the area. This place is a legit NYC ICON! Family owned over 100 years. Best sandwich in Queens, if not NYC. Momas special is a classic sandwich and personal favorite. The sandwich was hand made and designed by Momma her herself. Mommas ides was to pre make the sandwich and have a few at the ready for the cops and firemen, so they could come in and grab and go back to work. The sandwich dont seem to last more than a few minuets. The recipe and concept is carried on by her children. Perfect sandwich! I get it every time. They also have some other fantastic menu sandwiches and daily hot specials Mommas also has a very good Traditional Italian bakery that is a fantastic place to wash down a Mommas Special with a perfect cappuccino and fresh cannoli. Worth the trip, highly recommend!

Michael M.

Yelp
Mama's is one of the best old school sandwich shops in the city. I recommend the Turkey or if you are there on Tuesday the pork hero's.

Sabrina K.

Yelp
Had one of the best sandwiches of my life from hear. The bread alone was so good, and the fresh mozzarella.

Debbie E.

Yelp
It's a good thing my hubby waited in the car because he only wanted to share a giant sandwich. Hell no, mamas sandwiches are that good I got two. I wasn't sharing just one. A mamas special and a spicy Italian. Everything plus oil vinegar. Two sodas. 30 bucks. Very fair price and very delicious.

Christos A.

Yelp
The Backbone of Corona. This fine Italian deli style kitchen serves up satisfaction and beyond. From their weekly specials to their imported meats and cheeses, you'll feel like your visiting you long list Italian Nana from the moment you walk in. Portions are large and robust. I suggest their Sopresata which is pre-sliced and any special from either day of the week, from eggplant parm to meatballs, to fill your void of good Italian feasting. R.I.P. Mama. Sad to see you go but your memory lives on strong.

Kevin R.

Yelp
Home made old school food. Sandwiches are great and the staff is excellent. Grab a sandwich, sit next door in the bakery or the bakery court yard then end your meal with a cappuccino and a pastry!

Billy C.

Yelp
I don't understand the hype about this place. The sandwiches are as thin as can be. I've been here multiple times and pray that the previous time was just a mistake but I think this is the last straw. They always disappoint when I open my sandwiches and see slivers of whatever you order. They go cheap on the cold cut meats!. Let's dive into the details: Place - not ideal for parking because the area is congested all the time. If you do come here by car, plan accordingly. Also keep in mind they have a bakery/cafe section on the block. Be sure to go into the one in the corner for the average sandwiches. Service - average. Food - I got the mamas special because hey...it's mamas special! BUT be warned, they pre make these god knows how long in advance. That's a no no I'm my book. I want my sandwiches fresh. Like I said above, they do not pack it with much. You'll be hungry if you're a normal sized person. The taste of the sandwich was good though! I also tried the super Italian - I would recommend this over the Mama's special because instead of it being pre made they take the cold cuts that was pre cut from a container and then make your sandwich....yeah...but it wasn't a bad sandwich. Overall, the sandwiches are not bad but for the money you can get better elsewhere. I will not be coming back as I am not a fan of pre cut & pre made sandwiches just because they can get busy at times.

Chad T.

Yelp
This is a legit italian deli in the neighborhood at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend the italian hero, they make a ton of these and know what they're doing. They also make home made mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, and tons of different varieties of fresh made pastas. Come for a sandwich for lunch and take some pasta home to make dinner for the family!

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
This place is a gem!!!! The smell walking in is so inviting. Irene who I believe is the owner, greets you with such warmth. My husband and I are so happy we found this place. Today we ordered 2 subs. I got the Turkey Deluxe which tastes like Thanksgiving in a sandwich. My husband got the combo which had salami, ham, cheese, peppers...AMAZING! Sandwich is so big i was only able to eat half. Also, do yourself a favor and visit the bakery...two doors down, Tiramisu...perfection.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I love this place. It's a few blocks from my job and it's a wonderful walk in the spring or fall for a delicious sandwich. The mamas specials are bomb! But I am biased since living off salami and cheese are my goals in life. The sandwich usually consists of salami, ham, fresh mozzarella. You walk in and all the cheese hanging off the ceiling makes the most delicious smell, as if you've been wrapped in a blanket of cheese and might walk outside and be in Italy. The lunch specials are really good too. Their stuffed shells and chicken parm are also good! Another plus is you can always buy fresh cut salami or cheeses and a bunch of other goods from Italy.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Simply the best. I have never had a bad or even "okay" sandwich here. The service is fast, efficient and friendly at the same time. Every morsel of the sandwiches are perfect. They are big enough to share but you won't want to.

Lisa E.

Yelp
5 Stars for old school Queens Italian pork, broccoli rabe, roasted red peppers with gravy... need 2 hands to secure one half and more foul to wrap up the other half to go. On our way home from 10 days in Boston we were looking for lunch in the vicinity of Guida Funeral Home in Corona before a 2 pm wake. Luckily the pastries caught my eye in the far left store front and we wandered in to see others eating their Mamas hero's at the tables... shoot down a few doors to the meat store for the hot sandwich of the day that is the size of a newborn. Lee and I should have split one. Crazy !!! Enjoyed the sandwiches and then some coffee and pretty unexciting cookies... hey Boston, you win in the pastry department !!

Kerri G.

Yelp
This is an Iconic New York Italian Deli. It's pretty much my husband's favorite place to get food at and he was ecstatic we happened to be in Queens the other day to get lunch. So, for my first time, I will say I agree. I ordered my own custom sandwich. Some items they didn't have in stock but it was still delicious. And I love spice. So I asked for hot peppers. Whatever it was they gave me, made the sandwich absolutely delicious. I can't believe we inhaled our food without even taking photos to post.

Gregory C.

Yelp
Finally made it to the source. I've been to their outposts at old Shea Stadium (field level behind home plate) and at Citi Field (field level, left field corner), and I finally made to the original location in Corona. I was biking 32 miles around Flushing Meadows Corona Park and made a lunchtime detour to here. I'm glad I did. Old school Italian deli. The original deli counter is still in use. Even met Mama's granddaughter who now owns the place and lives on the second floor above the establishment. Nice friendly woman. $10 for a massive hero. A couple of outdoor tables to dine al fresco. Loved it. I will be back.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Amore, Amore, Amore!!! Lovely owners. Wonderful authentic sandwiches. Go there early before a Mets game. Miss their Citi Field concession

April A.

Yelp
Always worth the trip out to Corona! You cannot go wrong with Mama's! The pastries are delicious and made with skill + love!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Citi Field offers tons of food options from the classic ballpark foods like burgers and fries all the way through Pat LaFrieda steaks. One of my go to options when taking in a ballgame is the classic "Mama's Special" at Mama's of Corona (also knows as Leo's Latticini). Their signature sandwiches have long been a staple in Corona but have made their way to Mets games as well. Their special includes Pepper Ham, Salami, Homemade Fresh Mozzarella, Mushrooms and Peppers within a Toasted Sesame Hero. You can grab one of these bad boy's in Section 105 or 415 at the stadium or at their storefront location on 104th Street in Corona. Play ball!

Steve G.

Yelp
Mama's incredible. Service, presentation & the food, of course! Very friendly and homelike environment.

Sara R.

Yelp
The best place in Corona. A legend!!!! Must try the Italian sandwich, the ravioli and the fresh mozzarella.

Roger H.

Yelp
Definitely not in the majority here but again this is why yelp is yelp and opinions are opinions and are really to be taken with a grain of salt. Came here raring to go as I love neighborhood staples and remnants from a different time, Leo Latticini from what I've read was a remnant from when Corona used to be a blue collar Italian neighborhood, as I was thoroughly impressed by restaurants like triangolo I came here with equally high expectations and was extremely disappointed that it did not live up to them. Ordered the super italian along with a 1lb box of rainbow cookies. Super italian was incredibly bland, couldn't really taste any of the cold cuts while the mozzarella didn't have any of the slight cheese punch to it, this sandwich tasted like it was slapped together by a school cafeteria lunch lady who just pieces together cold cuts like lego pieces, was very disappointed and wondered maybe if they forgot something like salt, pepper, oil, or vinegar, anything would have made this better, and was eternally yearning for some kind of condiment to really add flavor to it.....not good. The rainbow cookies tasted like something that you bought from a super market, incredibly soggy, cold with no springiness to it at all, was again deepy disappointed by it. Honestly the staff here is wonderful and incredibly polite and nice, but maybe they were having an off day the day I was there. Would come back just to sample other items to see if they can prove me wrong, but would be very hesitant after my initial run

Jando S.

Yelp
Leo's Latticini Mama's is one of the borough's treasures for all things Italian. In addition to featuring quality meats and Italian products, they also have an outstanding dessert selection, and they happen to have some of the best sandwiches anywhere. Combine all of that with outstanding service and solid prices, it isn't hard to fathom why I make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in the area. The place is clean, organized, yet incredibly old school. The store is sectioned off to various areas from the garlic dangling salad and pasta area to the counter spots where cheese and hanging meats reign supreme together. The smell in the store is strangely aromatic, perhaps reminiscent of an Italian grandmother's kitchen. For a lot of folks coming to Mama's, a big draw are their signature sandwiches. One of their most popular, the Mama's Special ($8) is a nice smattering of meats with fresh mozzarella and spread. I also have high regard for their very tasty roasted turkey, fresh chunks of mozzarella, and pesto spread. ($9.50). The ultimate is the Super Italian, which is a stacking of prosciutto, cappicola, and more fresh mozzarella. On occasion if the sandwich seems stingy or flimsy, don't be afraid to ask for more meat / cheese to make the sandwich to your liking (within reason of course). Beyond the sandwiches, there is always an opportunity to try their hot foods and cold foods, which are changed out daily. From meatballs on Wednesdays to eggplant parm on Fridays, there is never a dull choice for lunch. They close in the afternoon every day, so aim for earlier to get the freshest foods.

Bob S.

Yelp
Last of the old time Italian delis. Everything is cooked fresh that day! Don't forget to visit the garden in the pastry shop. If you're in citifield look for their sandwich stand

Bernard L.

Yelp
Great Italian deli... I've been here twice for sandwiches and both times it was amazing! The homemade roast turkey and the fresh mozzarella are both something special. I've only been here in the time of COVID-19, so I've never been inside. I can't wait for that day though! Extra points for all the Mets paraphernalia!

Glenn V.

Yelp
"Why are we driving all the way to Astoria for roast beef? "Fat encased Tuesday's Roast Beast" (aka Roast Beef). "It's by far the best roast beef anywhere, you'll see." Spoken with an aire of confidence I just couldn't muster up enough hootspha to challenge, so I mumbled and grumbled under my breathe while peering out the window at the passing hope of my Shake Shack desires. Cured meat hanging by rope from rafters coupled with white buckets of olives will thrill me till the day I take my dirt nap. The ante upped - a whole display case of additional cured meats, specifically salami, whatever happened to salami anyway? I can't recall anyone calling its name too top an egg or populate some bread with provolone, never happens, its eighty five percent of my sandwich meat & home noshing. Ham? Turkey? Gosh -- they bore me too death. Two little women advanced the slicing arm purposefully- - too and fro with reckless abandons, a seven or eight pound piece of that spoken gelatinously encased meat was getting wacked up thin, in the Hobart slicer along with thick cuts of mozzarella. Every single customer order was the same as the modulation of chants "I'll have what he's having" grew like crickets playing telephone, chirping to the moon at night, anxiously growing and bellies groaning at the passed deli papered sandwiches reached their homes. Opting for the gravy and mushrooms atop, the taste from bite one to bite last was something out of an edible musical, deliciously dramatic and delictably theatreacle. Overture to cadenza the magical taste had really grabbed me in a food transe that kept me under its uniquely wonderful spell for the remainder of the day and night.
