I travel independently across multiple countries and one of the main reasons I travel is to experience local cuisine. I eat in street food stalls, local warungs, markets, and restaurants of all levels.
This was, without exaggeration, one of the worst food experiences of my life.
I ordered a fried fish. Visually, the dish looked fine. However, the moment I took the first bite, I had to stop immediately. The taste was absolutely disgusting — strong flavors of mud, diesel fuel, mold, damp cellar and rotten earth. The fish tasted spoiled and completely inedible. I could not swallow it and left the dish after a single bite.
I addressed the issue with the staff right away. To be fair, they were polite, apologized, and did not charge me for the dish, which I appreciate. That said, serving food of this quality should never happen, especially in a restaurant with such a high Google rating, which I honestly cannot understand after this experience.
Another serious issue is the misleading pricing. The restaurant presents itself as low-cost, but fish prices are listed per 100 grams, which results in a final bill equal to or higher than in much better restaurants. Additionally, the 10% government tax is not clearly displayed — it is written in very small print, easy to miss, which feels intentionally misleading.
Overall, I left deeply disappointed and honestly shocked. I have eaten local food all over the world and never experienced something this bad. High ratings here are extremely misleading.
