Asheboro, North Carolina, Has Beautiful Hikes, a Lively Downtown, and the World's Largest Natural Habitat Zoo

"Located on North Street, Leo’s is a cozy, speakeasy-style whiskey bar, named after Leo Papas, a veteran, steel mill worker, and handyman. Old-school cocktails like Leo’s whiskey sour and Leo’s old-fashioned, along with music from the 1940s make visitors feel like they've stepped back in time." - Trudy Haywood Saunders Trudy Haywood Saunders Trudy Haywood Saunders is a writer and editor based in North Carolina. We love Leo's! It is mine and my husband's favorite place to go for a date night. We know we will get high quality drinks for a great price, and they always have rare, delicious bourbon to try too. The atmosphere is fantastic as well as the staff. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Google
Always a good experience at Leo's. The team is attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable about Whiskey/Bourbon. A few things to know: - Menu is seasonal so expect to see new, fresh cocktail options - No hats after 5pm, a nod to the past - Get your drink to-go, and sit outside, or in the park - The space is intimate, so expect to be cozy with your neighbor Pics: Classic Old Fashioned, Blackberry Smash Sage, Prickly Pear, Tennessee Tea, and Knob creek on the rock

Do not sleep on this place if visiting town! Went there while in town for the week and the vibe is like nothing I have experienced anywhere I have ever been to. Patrons are friendly and atmosphere is very layed back. If I make it back to town here, will definitely be back!

Google
Such a pleasant surprise to discover this gem! Truly unique menu of custom cocktails dreamed up in-house, "craft" doesn't do these justice. Owners provide great service and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

We attended an outdoor event hosted by Leo's Whiskey Bar. Their service and drinks were incredible. We are looking forward to going back when they are actually open, since we were there on a Sunday morning. If you enjoy Bloody Mary's, theirs was incredible. Along with their expresso martini.

Bar tenders were friendly and very knowledgeable. The assortment of Bourbon’s was incredible! And as a nice surprise, Leo’s also had two of my favorite scotches, Laphroaig and Lagavulin

Google
Came across this fantastic establishment while passing through on a motorcycle trip earlier this week. It has an old speakeasy type of feel, and the location is perfect for it’s vibe. Also has a great story behind it’s start. Can’t say enough good things about the Bartender & Owner. Both were friendly, knowledgeable and had great recommendations. The Leo’s Old Fashioned is a MUST!

Google
Stopped in Asheboro for the night on our way to Charlottesville. It’s a lovely town. There is an art culture and several wonderful restaurants ( and apparently a fabulous zoo). But what a treat to find several craft bars with very talented bartenders. This was one of them. My husband said he had the best Mint Julep ever…We did not eat so I can’t rate food. The biggest surprise was to learn that Randolph county was dry until a decade or so ago so most of these bars are only a few years old.

Yelp
If you love Whiskey and Bourbon, then this is the spot for you. Nice little quiet spot a hole in the wall and the best place to get great service. Date night is always great.

Yelp
This place is amazing the owners are absolutely fantastic and welcoming! This is our go to spot for date night when we have had a long week. Drink quality is great! We have attended some of the events they have hosted and by far the Brunch Block Party was the best one yet.

Yelp
We love the intimacy of Leo's Whiskey Bar. Literally a hole-in-the-wall place with a U-shaped bar commanding the center of the room. You're right there with the bartenders and other patrons at the bar which is great for making new friends. There are a few tables to sit at if you would like a more private conversation. Or all the bar stools are taken. When I say the place is intimate, I really mean it. The maximum capacity is 25 and that includes the staff. What really defines Leo's are the superb craft cocktails. This IS a whiskey bar and the bartenders literally craft your drink. No slinging liquor here! The prices are very reasonable, especially given the quality of the beverages. Definitely a place to stop in for a nightcap, or, hold court from the corner of the bar!

Yelp
If you are a whiskey drinker this is your local place to go. Nice selection, knowledgeable staff. It is nice to go where there is a mixologist not just a bartender. Small place and have always meet nice people.

Yelp
Over the weekend after dining at Taco Loco, my date and I cross the street to "just stick your head in" to Leo's whiskey bar. Or immediate impression was to step in, grab a table and order a drink! The ambience of the place was quite surprising, and extremely welcoming. Although it's a little tight and probably seats around 30 people, I'm guessing, there were still ample room between bar seats, inside tables and outside tables Although their forte is whiskey, they had an amazing menu of mixed drinks and other libations if you are not a whiskey person, per se . The husband of the pair had made a few recommendations for what turned out to be a Mule-style drink for my date and sort of a piña colada sort of a drink for me that had whiskey as the primary liquor. Hers had a touch of jalapeño so it had a little bit of a bite to it but what an amazing surprise in terms of flavors. My drink also was shocking and absolutely delicious and a great recommendation by the owner! If you're looking for a place to have a drink before dinner or cocktails after dinner or after an afternoon of walking the streets of Asheboro, I would highly recommend this establishment. Excellent service, excellent drinks and did not break the budget! Definitely five star all the way !

Yelp
The word "whiskey" comes from the Gaelic uisge, a shortened version of usage beatha meaning "water of life," also known as aqua vitae in Latin.  Whiskey was originally used as a medicine, both as an internal anesthetic and an external antibiotic. Recommend Leo's bar for the skills of the bartender showing off the many of the mixologist's recipes for whiskey and cocktails. Leo's well stocked bar is very clean and has the distinct character of a gentleperson's relaxed retreat from the stress of the day.

Yelp
On an unexpected night out in Asheboro my wife spotted this bar on a side street. We decided to venture in for a nightcap to warm up after dinner and am glad we did. Cozy and intimate horseshoe bar takes up most of the room. Whiskey list was good but not intimidating, with several highly allocated bottles available for a pour and a selection of cocktails on offer. After a pour of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and a Manhattan, I came away quite happy. Definitely check this place out if you enjoy brown liquors, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service.

Yelp
GO HERE! Great little bar on a side street in downtown Asheboro. Super friendly staff, and excellent drinks. Choice of bourbon & scotch cocktails, or straight selections. Private bar, so membership required ($1). No food served, but tasty bar snacks. I love it here! We will definitely be back (since we're members and all!)

Yelp
Excellent selection of drinks and very friendly staff. Stop in and try their fall/winter menu to get into the holiday spirit.
