On the Grid : Ler Devagar

"This enormous bookstore is worth a visit if in LXFACTORY. The store has a cute café where you can sit and dive into a book while sipping on a glass of rosé. You can also work from there and take a meeting - the wifi is great, the coffee is black and it is nice and quiet. Atm there is an interactive installation and there is always something going on in the space. You will find new and old books, music of all kinds and childrens' fold out books." - Relax, we are the good guys

We stumbled into this bookstore to escape the rain, and it turned out to be one of the best surprises! The selection of books is fantastic, with something for everyone, and the prices are very reasonable. What makes it even better is that it’s not just books—they also have a great collection of art and records. The space is cozy and inviting, and we could’ve easily spent hours exploring everything. Whether you're a book lover, art enthusiast, or music fan, this place is definitely worth a visit! Highly recommend!

Google
A truly delightful and hip bookstore. I wanted to buy an English translation of Pessoa and the staff was very helpful. It’s a beautiful and lively place, yet also calm and quiet. I’d love to visit again.

Ler Devagar bookstore, located in the vibrant LX Factory in Lisbon, is much more than just a bookstore — it’s a true temple of culture. Housed in a former printing warehouse, the space preserves industrial details, including an old printing press, creating a unique and inspiring atmosphere. Founded in the early 2000s, Ler Devagar started in Alcântara, moved temporarily to Bairro Alto, and since 2009 has been at LX Factory, where it has become one of the most iconic bookstores in Lisbon — and even in Europe. In addition to a vast selection of books from all genres, one of the highlights is the huge collection of vinyl records: jazz, rock, classics, indie, and rarities that will delight any music lover. Prices are affordable, and the curation is clearly done with passion. You’ll also find art exhibitions, cultural events, and a cozy café inside — perfect for reading or simply soaking in the creative vibe. Well worth the visit, even if you don’t plan on buying anything — though it’s hard to leave empty-handed! 🎶📖

Google
Captivatingly Cool - entering this space hits on multitudes - Neverland meets Narnia meets Escher in that you feel as if you’ve entered somewhere special even sans a hidden wardrobe door. It feels wildly special; your bibliophile and inner child will soar prompted by the artist/inventor P. Proserpio’s ‘flying bicycle.’

Love every space that has books. They also had vintage vinyl records.

Google
Such an amazing bookstore with a great extensive catalogue. I could spend Hours in here. The music section upstairs is great as well

It was cute. But not worth the drive to get there from the city. What you see in the pictures is all that it is. The bookstore is in a fun shopping area if you like to shop. But I do not recommend going just to see the bookstore.

It’s a modern bookstore with so many different floors (stairs kind of mezzanine), but I found the price of books so expensive! I guess it’s the same all over Portugal… the place is cool though it’s so crowded !

Yelp
When you get to the LX factory, there is a lot to look at. But if you can, stop by this really cool bookshop with floor to ceiling shelves of books, and their jazz music section on the second floor. Very cool vibes!

Yelp
Ler Devagar is special and I don't know how to completely explain it. It's located in the LX Factory, which is a cool area to hang out in to begin with, and there's just something about this bookstore that is completely charming. My eyes widened and I smiled the moment I walked in. The atmosphere and the way that the books just seemed to go on forever woke up the curious child in me and made me want to get lost for hours... exploring every shelf... every hidden corner... in order to find out what magical stories waited for me. It is a delightful place. I had been looking for something to take home with me from my visit to Lisbon, a souvenir, and it was here I found an adult coloring book of tile patterns which was just the perfect thing. When I find myself in the area next, and I'm sure I will eventually... I will definitely be back to hunt for another treasure.

Yelp
Worth checking out to see the magnitude of books they carry. It's an old paper mill turned bookstore. I liked taking pictures inside and staring at all the books but didn't need to buy one at the time.
