Cross over the bridge and you will find yourself at the Abattoirs, contemporary art museum. There are a few museums and galleries in Toulouse, but the best are the Abattoirs, the Bemberg Foundation and the Augustins Museums.

This space is incredible, first of all: turning a slaughterhouse into a museum may not be “new” but putting an exhibition in rural life (old and modern, European and African, very conceptual and very tangible) in it was a way to acknowledge the place and celebrate its rebirth. The EROS temporary exhibition upstairs is pretty amazing, I expected something slightly kinky (to be honest: something we have all already seen a million times) but this was very fine and sophisticated eroticism through allegory. Really loved it, entirely worth a visit!

Nice setting in a well maintained, older building. Pleasant staff. With a QR code, you can read about the exhibits in English. The area surrounding the building is a nice setting. Art is subjective, especially modern art. I generally love modern art. The current exhibit was not very interesting (art and photos of rural settings may be interesting to some, but my family has farms, so it's not too interesting to me).

We went there spontaneously and visited the Artistes et Paysans exhibition, which was surprisingly interesting. They have a reading corner, bibliothèque, and some chill points outside. I will want to come back to spend the day there with a book and some art.

Loved the space; less the direction of the art. Installation outside has got nothing to do with the beauty- and the message is debatable. What is great is that the author Julius Koller made it here ;-)) One star down for awfully smelling toilets ((

Les Abattoirs is a contemporary art museum in Toulouse. It is located near the Garonne riverside and next to Jardin Raymond VI park. The building that the museum is located in is lovely, with plenty of art pieces displayed outside. I was only able to peruse part of the museum, as an area was closed on the day that I visited. Of the exhibits that I viewed, I thought they were not to my liking. Contemporary art is more subjective and more prone to criticism. There are some visual art pieces that I viewed that seemed odd and did not appeal to my tastes. Looking online, it seems like the museum changes exhibitions frequently, so this may be more a dislike for a certain artist's work rather than for the museum itself. I would consider visiting again if there was an exhibition that I was interested in.

Very thought provoking and well curated exhibitions. It's accessible and accommodating to a mother and small baby. All the staff were very friendly and eager to make the visit as easy as possible - thank you!

Modern Art museum. I was there on free Sunday and it's been quite crowded: avoid that date if you can afford it. The exposition is grand. More cues inside the building, so I left some out.

Contemporary art museum. Beautiful building conversion and several interesting exhibits. Easy to get there.
