You can get the Swiss/ Austria Käse as well French Fromage and the Canadian east coast goat / sheep cheese. Great little cheese specialized store by the 2nd Ave.

Hi! I should have written this earlier :) I threw a bachelorette party for my girlfriend last month and needed a meat and cheese board. I went to Le Amis du Fromage on W. 2nd. I got great help from the lovely staff there - confident recommendations on cheese and meats and what would complement one another. The price was affordable as well! And all the girls loved it, so thank you so much!!

Sunny C.

Google
This was my first time visiting either one of these locations and I had an awesome time! I bought an affordable mystery bag with five different kinds of cheeses and two gourmet chocolate bars. I especially appreciated the staff member who assisted me and helped me choose a chocolate bar to pair the cheeses with. Treated myself to a solo charcuterie tonight!

Google
Hit it 👍🏿! Best place in town to get cheese and other products. I'm a consistent shopper here at this location and the other one. They have some pretty amazing baguettes as well. I miss the days when you could try the cheeses. Always make sure to pick up an orphan cheese on your way out 😅!

Google
It's a great cheese shop that I visit every week. They have everything for appetizers and home groceries. The staff, including a French-speaking gentleman, is lovely. Prices are affordable, and the quality is excellent.

Google
The cheese staff at Les amis du Fromage provide a very warm welcome on each visit and answer questions about cheeses with detail that is easily understood and so helpful when discussing new cheese choices and their interesting flavours and combinations with other food products..on our next visit we will explore soups that are available at this store…

Google
I absolutely love coming here. The selection is great and the service is always phenomenal. They are knowledgable and prepared to answer any questions regarding their plentiful selection. It's a little pricy, but this is to be expected given their excellent standards. Highly recommended, especially if you like imported cheese.

JaCo A.

Google
Amazing service and selection of the most delightful cheeses, delicatessen, and frozen dishes. Absolutely the best place to get cheese in town. The staff is very knowledgeable and always welcoming. You can also order prepared raclette and fondue mix. We just wish they would bring back the raclette set borrowing to the Kits location.

Yelp
Are you a cheese fanatic? Come here! I've been coming here since I was a little girl with my Swiss father and Les Amis Du Fromage (LADF) was located on Alma St. in a little plaza. LADF has always satisfied our Swiss house hold, supplying cheeses from all around the world! I've come by and found some unique cheeses that I truly don't believe you can find other than at a speciality cheese store. There is always a line up here (even pre-COVID). They know their stuff when it comes to the taste of each cheese and recommendations. You can find everything for the perfect charcuterie board, including meats, jams, napkins, etc. too!

Yelp
This is it, this is the only cheese spot you need to know about in Vancouver because IT IS LEGIT! We have been enjoying the cheese at Les Amis for over five years now and they've never disappointed! During covid my partner and I have gotten into something we call Cheese O Clock every second Friday where we go to Les Amis and pick three different cheeses to try for the weekend. We pair the cheeses with some good wine and add chorizo or smoked salmon and it's quite a delight! Something that's certainly been a highlight during our stays at home during these times. The service is spectacular and they all know so much about cheese I love how if a cheese I like is out of stock they'll recommend one that's equally as great to me! It's so awesome when staff now what they're selling! We go every second weekend so obviously imma gonna give them a five star! If you're in the mood for fondue, this is your go to as well! They make incredible cheese mixes that you can mix with wine and heat on your stove! If you're in the mood for olives too, look no further! Les Amis has got it all!

Yelp
If you like cheese your going to LOVE this shop. From the moment you walk in you're immersed in the aroma of cheese. A good selection of meats and condiments pair with their wide array of domestic and exotic selections. Small but well considered, you might not notice it in a drive by. It is always buzzing with line ups just prior to holidays. Plenty of street parking and good walkability to Granville island and Fairview/kits. You could visit every day for a year and still not try every type of cheese they offer. Excellent option for the formaggio adventurer.

Yelp
If you love cheese like me then get yourself to this store it's the best cheese shop in Vancouver by far! Their selection is massive and you can sample if you aren't sure before you buy. They also have a large selection of frozen meals ( not all have cheese in them). I especially enjoy their lasagna. They sell crackers, oils and vinegars, chocolates, and other assorted gourmet goodies also if you're looking to put together a nice gift basket for a foodie. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. Not much else to say just do yourself a favor and visit ASAP

Yelp
Stopped in *during* the Vancouver Sun Run for their popular brown bag cheese tasting where they have a bunch of cheeses cut up and thrown into a bag ready to grab and go. Super fast service, they do take credit card tap and I was not the only Sunrunner who popped in that day! Their cheese is so delicious and good - my brown bag today had 5 varieties of different types and I will definitely be back. However if you're in a rush and keen to try something new their brown bag is the best option!

Yelp
I visited this shop for the first time and last time on July 8, 2024. Fodor's gave a rave review stating the shop has an incredible selection of great cheeses and highly encourages sampling first. I was excited to learn about and try new cheeses. I don't know when that review was written but there is absolutely NO sampling allowed. Big mistake because I would have easily dropped $400. They will only "talk" about cheese which didn't help me at all with the overwhelming choices. I bought a wedge of cheese I know I like; Gorgonzola, and one frozen container of beef stroganoff with mushrooms and sour cream. The cheese was rotten. It had a black ooze, foul odour and dark discolouration. I took it back and a woman I presume is the owner asked to inspect it first. She agreed it was rotten. When I bought it I was told it was the last wedge. I pointed that out to this woman and said they should have known this was the last piece of a very old cheese wheel that had been in the case a very long time and that it looked like it hadn't been kept at a proper temp. I asked why they didn't look at it before selling it to me knowing all this. She just shrugged her shoulders like it was no big deal and asked if I would like to exchange it for more cheese. NO!! You have one specialty and you sold me rotten, fetid cheese?! I don't trust you anymore. How would you like it if you came to my restaurant and I served you my specialty and it was rotten? Then I tried the frozen stroganoff, second fail. The thin aluminum pain buckled while removing from the oven and the whole thing landed on the floor. Should have instructions to place on a cookie sheet. The product looked like grey dog barf . The sour cream had separated and kind of curdled. It tasted just as awful as it looked. A really bad product. We threw it away.

Yelp
The customer service here is exceptional. EXCEPTIONAL! Cheese is fantastic, we all know this. This place is the mothership of cheese with so many choices you might have a meltdown. They carry all the cheese, and all the things that go with cheese, and all the things you put cheese on and so on. The lovely humans that run this shop know more about cheese than you do about yourself sooooo just go here already. Short version.... I needed something specific, emails and phone calls were involved, mission was accomplished. Long version.... I go on and on in detail and fawn all over how lovely Allison is, embarrassing us both. I wish they sold all the items I need in my life.

Bryant P.

Yelp
Excellent service. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable. And patient with someone like myself, who knows nothing.

Yelp
OMG really the best shop I've ever visited in the North American continent! They have a variety of cheeses from Quebec, France, Spain and Italy. I bought tiny pieces of about 10 of those to try and it was delicious and guess what the place is affordable too. We tried double cream Brie, truffles Brie, Camembert, manchengo, goat cheeses of various kinds and aged cheddar. They have some varieties of water buffalo cheeses which are pretty good but our favourites were the cheese that were made from non pasteurised milk. Of course, the star was truffle Brie :) Wish they had a store in LA, definitely worth a visit'

Yelp
Great selection of cheese and friendly staff for a cheese newbie like me.

Yelp
"I should not come over empty handed! What do you parents like/want? Cheese... OK" and that is how I ended up at this location. It was on the way, and what they specialize is the aromatic goodness of Cheese, whether firm or soft, smelly of less scented, you are in this haven, or heaven, of 'Fromage'! I didn't even realize they were related to the other shop they have on East Hastings, but when I brought my partner in, after cursing me due to the fact that her hand was going to go into her purse, we quickly scurried in here before closing to pick out some fine items. The staff here are very knowledgable, and friendly to answer you about what type of cheese you are looking for, as my partner did inquire. They allowed us to sample some cheese's so we could make the decision. They know what they are talking about, and just from their smiles they know they have got you once you put those delights in your mouth. The prices are fair, and it is a specialty store that caters to what you are looking for. There are some other items here, like bread from "a Bread Affair" that compliment your main purchase well. They also have some meats to go along in your shopping bag if you put your head toward the back end of the fridge. The store is small, and not as big as their main shop on Hastings, but it does the job, simple, clean, bright, and a good hint of cheese in the air, before you ask them to "cut the cheese" please! Another thing we noticed that they had on the shelves was a Rose jelly spread and some thin crisps that not many places carried. A great experience, that I feel will keep me coming back when I am in this area!

Yelp
I heart a good cheese shop and the only way to describe how I feel about this fantastic place is to sing you a song by the cure that plays through my head whenever I peer through the glass case at all that cheese....uhem... The sun is up I'm so happy I could scream! And there's nowhere else in the world I'd rather be Than here with you It's perfect It's all I ever wanted I almost can't believe that it's for real I really don't think it gets any better than this Vanilla smile And a gorgeous strawberry kiss! Birds sing we swing......

Yelp
Oh MY!!!!!! Cheese! And lots of it. I darted in here very quickly to get some burrata cheese, so I didn't have an awful lot of time to fully immerse myself in this little wonderland. I did note that there are other things in here that are not just cheese, such as salts. I have a personal fixation with cheese. I eat a lot of it. Would you like some pasta with your Parmesan is basically how much I like cheese. I am definitely coming back to look a little deeper into the treasures that are located in this little store. I like making mac and cheese from scratch, so this fits in perfectly with my agenda.

Yelp
This is bad, really bad... Who knew that cheese can bring such joy to your life? And O... so... addictive... This is my second time in a week to this cheese heaven and I don't live within 10 km radius. (Which I should be grateful for) They seems to have everything from "melt in your mouth" triple creamed brie to my current crush: stilton lemon cheese and I'm never a cheese fan (until now, that is). I've officially traded vinyasa breath for crumbly stilton in my quest to seek inner joy. I'm not sure about the how comprehensive their cheese stocks are, but they must have the most cheese variety per square feet in Vancouver. They also have been commendably helpful and friendly, and pretty generous with tasting too. A great place to fuel cheese addiction.

Yelp
This is an excellent spot for cheese lovers and connoisseurs. It's a small shop but chalk full of a variety of cheeses. Also, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I ended up buying a truffle cheese and taleggio from Italy. Yum. Good pairings for the duck cranberry terrine -locally made- and the duck rillette - from Quebec. They have a lot of cheese, so it's best to know what you are looking for or you are going to be asking a lot of questions. They also have a lot of additions to the cheese. You can find various condiments, such as Orange marmalade with Kentucky bourbon, or tuna, antipasto, etc. Salami is also available alongside crackers. Their selection in the freezer is interesting- it includes gourmet macaroni and cheese, Earnest ice cream and other goodies. This is a great place to stop by and pick up products for a perfect wine & cheese party.

Yelp
At les amis du FROMAGE (yes, that's how they style their name) the selection is enormous and the staff are friendly and helpful. I often go in to buy two or three favourite cheeses of different types and then ask for a suggestion for another one which I haven't tried before. They're always happy to give a taste so you're never stuck with something you don't want. They're open 7 days a week so you won't be caught wishing you'd gone yesterday. Definitely my first choice of cheese shops!

Yelp
Went to the store due to amazing reviews and I agree with everyone! I know absolutely nothing about cheese but the lady who helped us was very patient and gave us samples to try. She definitely knew her cheeses and explained the origin and flavours of each. Prices were extremely fair as well. Left with two blocks of yummy cheese for our picnic! They also sell some Oyama goods in their fridges so you can skip a trip to Granville Island if you're in a hurry.

Nathalie B.

Yelp
Went to buy some gorgonzola and mozzarella for guests coming over from Italy. The lady went to the back to cut the gorgonzola and served me the exposed part of the cheese which was inedible (Orange parts on the gorgonzola) my guests from Italy were appalled. My bad for trusting who works there and not checking what I was being served. Also, they don't have fresh mozzarella, only vacuum sealed mozzarella which expires in 10 months. Not what I'd expect from a store that all it sells is cheese.

Yelp
Les Amis du Fromage makes me want to break out in spontaneous song and dance about the many joys of cheese shopping and devouring. I freaking LOVE this place and would buy a mountain of cheese and cheese accessories (crackers, bread, preserves) every day if I could justify it to my wallet and my body. It's a candy shop for the cheese lover. There are detailed descriptions of each cheese and the marvelous employees will go into depth if asked, and even give you a sliver to taste if you're undecided. Piave, a large variety of blue (Rogue River Blue is AMAZING - wrapped in olive leaves that have been macerated in pear brandy, what?) mimolette, I could just keep going. If you love cheese (and I mean REALLY love cheese) and live in Vancouver, you are not living a full life unless you frequent Les Amis Du Fromage.

Yelp
Ripe, raw, stinky cheese... every which way you look. The smell hits you like a brick of cheddar when you open the door. More than a superstore of pasteurized goodness, this is the one place in Vancouver that I have always been able to locate an obscure order. The staff are like walking cheese encyclopedias. For years, I've been a cheesy spender, especially around the holidays. This past weekend, I watched as a customer asked one of those head scratching questions that went a little something like this. "Last week I had a cheese at La Brasserie. Do you know what it is?" And to my great delight, the cheese experts flipped through books, searching for what it could be. I didn't stay to hear the ending, but brownie points for the books. I was blown away. And with my burrata, goat, cream cheese and olives in hand, I skipped off to make a beautiful snowman cheese man. True story.

Yelp
Les Amis Du Fromage is an adorable cheese shop hidden away on 2nd ave between Pine and Burrard. The store itself is small, but the cheese selection is fantastic. If you're on the hunt for a specific cheese, chances are you will find it here. They also stock a large variety of crackers, breads, and olive oil's. What I like best about this store is the staff. Every staff member is very knowledgeable about cheese, and are bursting with recommendations. If they don't have what you're looking for, they're quick to recommend something similar. Thanks to them, we've learned about some fantastic brie's and blue cheeses. Also, you can come here and get them to put a party platter together. My husband ordered a custom one for my birthday, and we ended up with a giant platter of cheese plus a large basket of crackers. It was full of my favorite types of cheese, and everyone at my party thought it was great. One final thing that I think is awesome here is their bowl of "orphan" cheeses. They're priced super cheap, and it gives you a chance to try a cheese you wouldn't normally buy. I found a habanero cheddar in the bowl a few months ago for $2 and it was great. Overall, Les Amis Du Fromage is my favorite cheese shop in Vancouver. If you're on the hunt for some good cheese, check it out!

Yelp
We've been there yesterday, got some awesome cheese and ate it just arrived home. I felt soo goooood! Really, if you like cheese and you care about what you eat, get a step through that door!
google avatar

Yelp
I went to a wine tasting that had Peller Estates wine, and a huge wheel of phenomenal cheese from Les Amis Du Fromage at each table. While others enjoyed the wine, I had an unlimited, insanely fabulous cheese orgy! Along with the wine, of course! Loved the triple creamed Saltspring Island goat cheese - I went back again and again. Some of this stuff LOOKS expensive, but if you select the right one, the cheese can be sooooo far above the normal cheedar/mozzarella/parmesan type of stuff as to actually make this taste sensation a complete bargain! Ask the staff for help, or get a broad selection and narrow it down to what you love the best. The huge no-cost tasting that I had has made me a fan for life!
google avatar

Martijn S.

Yelp
Seriously, why even bother buying your cheese at Safeway or IGA if you can get the real deal here, for the same if not better prices. Coming from Europe, it's already painful enough having to take out a mortgage to buy a brick of cheese in Canada, let along getting crap in return at your average grocery store. Individually wrapped slices of artificial milk products. Entere Amis Du Fromage - this is as good as it gets for buying cheese in Vancouver. Real stuff, sliced fresh off of the brick, at prices that are probably as good as they get too (thank the Government for tariffs!!! - not). I always buy my Gouda here... $2.25/100 gr, real Gouda, you can't beat that Safeway!
google avatar

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Wow i love this place. Mainly for helping me make a kick ass fondue. I was a little scared that there would be some cheese snobbery.. but not at all. The girl was super helpful and gave me a great recipe too. As i waited for my cheese to get shredded i checked out the other cheese's and will definitely be going back for more. Plus they had take away mac and cheese! It must be good.. seriously. Prices were reasonable and not gouging.

Yelp
I haven't practiced my French in awhile but I'm pretty sure this translates to "The friends of Cheese." And wow what a selection! You've got a huge variety from the small stuff like the cendrillon (delicious!) to stuff like bigger wheels they let you have samples of! I'm a big fan of the truffle style cheese as well as some seasonal stuff like the Irish cheddar they brought in for St Patty's day! Did I mention how friendly the staff are? And how much they know? I'm always into trying new foods and tastes and they always find something that hits the spot! Check it out!

Daniel M.

Yelp
I have no idea who owns this company. It sounds French and products are French. But customer service is not French. It's very Vancouver sh*tty.Lies lies lies.

Yelp
Les Amis is, bar none, the best cheese shop in Vancouver. When you open the door to their rather unassuming Fairview Slopes location, prepare to be yanked in through the door nose first. It is first and foremost an olfactory experience ... until you sample some of the delicious cheese. The customer service is always outstanding and if you should have a question about the characteristics of cheeses or need assistance with wine pairing, the staff is excellent. Some of my favorite things about Les Amis include the freshest Picholine Olives in Vancouver (brine so fresh and clear you could drink it, olives so crisp they are like the first bite of a fresh-off-the-tree apple), Souvagine cheese (a nod here to Quebec for their fabulous cheeses), which is a soft cheese with a medium flavor of grass and butter - at least to my palette. Their blue cheese selection is also excellent and there are too many other wonderful cheeses to list. Conveniently, Les Amis also carries a selection of very good quality biscuits and crackers as well as cheese condiments and many of the other accompaniments that one might want for a cheese-feast. One of the best features, particularly for summer evening nibbles on the beach is their "Brown Bag" which is literally a brown bag with a selection of four or five cheeses that complement one another and a suggestion for wine pairing. It's a great way to try new cheese and it prompts you to visit the wine store afterwards for another new discovery. Cheese lovers: get thee to Les Amis!

Yelp
I'm sure this shop deserves some kind of cheese award, if a thing even exists. The staff seems to know their cheeses well and they aren't afraid to show it. The variety was mind numbing and getting to sample a few was so helpful. I bought half pound blocks of a couple of different kinds, but I decided to also grab a "mystery bag" of cheese. I thought "what a great idea!" Big mistake! It was $20 and it was basically a sampler of remnants and leftovers from blocks they've cut. But, like, the worst kind. The cheeses all tasted so bad I gave them away. Everything else was fantastic though.
google avatar

Littlefish B.

Yelp
They are AMAZING with their customer service & product knowledge. Ask them to introduce you even just to something you likely haven't heard of before, and you'll be treated to some great history and trivia. I had them put together a full tasting tray for me for a family celebration one year. It was a HUGE hit! If you have wine, ask them to pair it with something for you to take with you. They'll likely be busy, but they don't mind helping. They're used to the questions because no one would know where to start! They also have an impressive offering of balsamic vinegars and truffle oils.

Yelp
Gourmet cheese shop. I made a day trip with 2 bus transfers just to go here, but that was a bit much since it was quite tiny inside, in kind of an isolated area, it was raining, and i had no umbrella. However, with better weather the location would have been fine. The real treasure is the products. I expected the usual recognizable fancy categories like brie, gouda, and whatnot but it was more like walking into a designer fashion shop full of names i've never heard of (and cant even understand). One staff member was a little intimidating when i asked questions, but keep trying out different people - there are really friendly ones who are not condescending at all. Ask for recommendations and samples! Oh and the smell put me off a little, but dont let that scare you - it's weird, but at least it's not overpowering. The taste is worth it!

Yelp
If there is one thing Earl loves (besides his wife Janet), it's a big block of cheese to munch on while watching his favorite extreme rollerblading videos. Combine that with a loaf of fresh bread and some olives, and Earl will entertain himself for hours while Janet knits cat pillows. So imagine our delight when we came across Les Amis du Fromage one day while meandering home from Granville Island. It's a tiny shop but they have an excellent selection - we can find everything from good basic ricotta to yummy smoked cheddar to unique choices like blue cheese gruyere. The best part is that the friendly staff can always recommend a top-notch fromage if you just describe what you're looking for, and they will gladly cut you a little sample to taste (much to sample-loving Earl's delight). The store also stocks a small selection of breads and hors d'oeuvres which can be paired with the cheese. We just adore this place for it's delicious offerings, super service, and quite reasonable prices, so as the young folks say, "you gotta check it out!" Sincerely, Earl and Janet

Yelp
Cheese lover paradise. Well arranged store. Have a good curated selection of block cheese ready to slice etc. Not cheap but again well curated and good service and inviting.
google avatar

Anita K.

Yelp
Cheese Heaven. Seriously. That is the only way to describe it. My favorite cheese here that i go back for again and again is the Aged Guinness Havarti Cheese..... Mmmmmm... its scrumptious! They even have books on cheese and sell everything to do with cheese including Fondue sets. The staff is superly knowledgeable on the cheeses that they sell and let you sample the cheese before you buy a big block of it.
google avatar

Nancy V.

Yelp
Friendly staff, delicious meats and cheese! You can rent a raclette free of cost when you purchase a certain amount.
google avatar

Heather E.

Yelp
If you're going to go to Les Amis Du Fromage, go for cheese. They've got it. Lots of it. And most of it is good. I made the mistake of going specifically for frozen macaroni and cheese. I had read recently that it was good. It wasn't. And neither was the frozen chicken dish I purchased, which was essentially chicken chunks floating in mustard-flavored jelly. It was just weird. And both dishes, although not very large, cost me over $30. But hey, that said, it's called The Cheese Friends for a reason, right? Go and buy some, I dunno, cheddar.
google avatar

Curtis B.

Yelp
Les Ami Du Fromage is a gem in Vancouver. By my experience, it is the best cheese shop in the city. When you walk in you can smell all the delciousness and then you see all the cheeses. The staff have superior product knowledge and are capable of making excellent suggestions. My suggestion, La Sauvagine - always a personal and crowd favourite. The prices are WAY lower than an food store. In addition to the cheese there are also some accompaniments. Rain coast crisps are more expensive than at IGA. The half baked baguette is great for cheese since you can spread the cheese on freshly baked bread and it doesn't have interfering flavours like Rain Coast Crisps. Bring some cheese to your next potluck (including some Sauvagine) and your friends will love you!

Yelp
Les Amis is, plain and simple, the perfect cheese store. Well, it's perfect, if you don't mind bankrupting yourself on a cheese platter for two or three guests. But, frankly, as far as the alternatives (especially supermarket cheese selections) in Vancouver go, I don't mind that, once in a while. Of course, there will always be some type of exotic cheese a store won't carry on a regular basis. But, being a cheese aficionado myself, I'm yet to find something missing here that I was looking for. And, most importantly, all the products that they carry are of the highest quality. So, at least, when you walk out of there having paid nigh $60 for a medium piece each of Comte and aged Mimolette, a small slice of Roquefort and some crackers, you can assuage your guilty conscience with the knowledge that all of the above will unequivocally taste like a slice of heaven. With the Granville Island Public Market cheese shops, I've had varying qualities in the past. Never at Les Amis. And, finally, I also appreciate their array of cheese related products (e.g. Raclette grills, Fondue sets etc.) and their regular cooperation with wine stores to offer perfect matches for cheese and wine lovers relatively new to the game. Like I said in another review, what sums up Les Amis du Fromage for me is simply this: You may walk out broke, but you'll definitely be happy.
google avatar

Luisa S.

Yelp
This little cheese shop sends my heart aflutter. Yes, it's terribly stinky but oh so great. With a focused dedication to cheese, the selection here is wide, varied and very overwhelming. Today, alone, I had my pick of five different kinds of Brie, and that was only in their sale section. As my eye wandered elsewhere, I noticed another two shelves devoted to Brie, alongside another two filled with goat cheese. While the Swiss gouda kept calling out to me, I eventually settled on three-year-old cheddar and a havarti. Also stocked are traditional cheese accompaniments: crackers, olives, spreads, tableware.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Oh sweet Jesus. How did I JUST discover this place? Amazing selection, extremely knowledgable staff, and foodie delights as far as the eye can see. Foie gras! Olives! Salts! Oils! I nearly wept. The prices are competitive with the nicer cheeses in grocery stores, so I'm coming here for all my cheese-related needs from now on.

Yelp
Who doesn't love cheese? I guess some people don't... but I do! If you, like me, liken cheese to chocolate, I've got just the store for you: Les Amis Du Fromage on West 2nd Ave. in Vancouver is the ultimate one-stop shop for cheese connoisseurs. With an offering of over 400 cheeses from around the world, Les Amis (as its name suggests) specializes in French cheeses, but is also well-stocked with products from Quebec, Italy, Portugal, and England. If you're not sure what cheese to choose, or need a flavour to complement a specific ingredient, meal, or wine selection, the friendly staff is more than happy to dispense its expertise. One of the things I love about Les Amis are the party platters, which come ready to serve right down to the silverware. You can even rent out fondue sets, platter dishes, and baskets.

Yelp
Amazing selection, amazing staff, and a great knowledge of all of their cheeses. Because of them, I've picked up so many of my favorites... Abondance, Fleur D'aunis, Landana Sheep Gouda, Fougeres, and many others... so tasty! The prices are not cheap, though they have some great weekly discounts. You need to really peruse the selection, particularly because they are really generous with samples. They also have a selection of frozen baguettes ready to bake! I love this shop. Especially since it's next to one of the best bookstores in the city!

Yelp
We travelled from our home in South Surrey to Les Amis twice. We decided that we'd like to try different cheeses for the first time so we needed some guidance in making a decision. The first time, the lady that helped us was extremely helpful and we didn't feel out of place even though we were total newbies. The store is clean and a nice layout. Les Amis has a good selection of cheeses. The only complaint is the location - it's difficult to find parking. The second time was not quite as positive. The young gentlemen that helped us gave us efficient service but seemed a little disinterested.

Yelp
I have been going to that store since the 90s (they were in a closet size store on Alma then). The cheeses are delicious, the staff knowledgeable. They have excellent business ethics. I love buying cheese in this specialty shop rather than in a big supermarket, where the same cheese do not taste as good. Thanks to Alison (and her mom, now retired)!

Yelp
This is by far the best cheese store, and chain, in Vancouver. To be an amazing cheese store goes far beyond the amount of varieties available. Any exceptional fromagerie has to have the following qualities: 1) Product knowledge: from characteristics to origin to applications a product of fine quality is something to appreciate on various levels. 2) Proper showcase: cheese should stored in a cool, not cold, showcase that organizes the cheese in an enticing way. 3) Quality: all of the cheeses, along with perishable accompaniments, should be as close to the ripened stage as possible. 4) Diversity: There should be a choice of cheese out there for anyone wanting to try, whether it is choosing fresh vs. aged, sheep vs. cow's milk, hard vs. soft, etc. 5) Quantity: a good fromagerie owner knows how much stock to keep on hand for freshness sake. 6) Customer relations: a customer of fine cheese is your ally. Don't let them become just another nameless customer you'll never see again. Nurture their craving in a way that makes them appreciate cheese on new levels. Les Amis gets checkpoints by every point. I have never stumped an employee with a question about their product. (I know personally that each employee gets intensive training that last months!) Les Amis' showcase clearly presents their well-stocked artisanal cheeses in their perfect maturation stage. Les Amis has some of the greatest artisanal cheeses of Europe. If Les Amis has a specialty it is the imported cheeses. Unfortunately Canadian standard laws prohibits importing raw cheese that are aged less than 60 days, which means Canadians will never try real Camembert from Normandy unless they go to France themselves. I digress though. Les Amis' choices not only in variety but in maker puts them on a level higher than other fromageries. They know their cheese makers: which ones produce handmade quality cheeses with care in limited quantities, and which ones are concerned making readily available mass-produced cheeses that are imitating the real deal. While quantities of artisanal cheeses vary from maker to maker, Les Amis tries their best to make the best sellers available year round while allowing rotation of some of the more obscure cheeses to allow for more cheese to be consumed. And the staff's customer relations is something other companies should model themselves after. I always feel welcome in the store. They gladly recommend I sample a cheese before I purchase it. It makes complete sense! Some of my favorite cheeses, including Pierre Robert triple-cream, pecorino affienato, comte juraflore and french sheep's feta are always available here. Lastly, just know that Alice - the matriarch of Les Amis du Fromage - is a Maitre Fromager in the Guilde des Fromagers Confrerie du Saint-Uguzon. This is the cheese world's highest honour so give great respect when you meet her and her daughter Allison. They are serious about their cheese!

Yelp
The selection of cheeses, spreads, and olives is amazing, and the prices are much lower than other specialty cheese vendors (like Whole Foods) The service is spectacular, though we were unable to assess how knowledgeable they are (since we knew what we wanted) but I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one cheese expert on hand. They also carry lots of other specialty items, like spreads, truffle oils and honeys, craft olive oils etc.

Yelp
First time here. Loved it. The staff helped me pick cheese (over 10 of them). They gave me samples from whatever I asked. I'll be coming back there. Prices are between $4-$9 per 100g. I bought 17 different cheese for $107. Very reasonable and fun. They have olive oils and some frozen food but I haven't tried any of them yet.

Yelp
This place has a fantastic selection of cheese. Even better that their prices are cheaper than Whole Foods. And wouldn't you rather support a small local business anyway? Metered parking near(ish) Granville Island. I prefer buying my cheeses here than GI--much better value and you don't have to run the gauntlet of tourists either. I wish I could give it more stars. The only place I spend more money on cheese than here is Beecher's in Seattle. But Beecher's doesn't come close in selection.
