We wanted to get away for the weekend and booked this place specifically because of the spa tub. It was a great location and the staff was very nice and hospitable. They have dishes you can use. It was pretty cozy, and our room was very spacious. 2 things that could have been better. 1. The TV placement... it's so high up, my neck even 😩 hurt a little from having to look up. 2. The tub... when I started to run the water for a bath, little floating kept coming out from the jets so we cleaned them out but then when I got into the tub the drain plug did not work well and the water kept draining. That really sucked. I ended up showering 🚿 instead. I didn't complain or ask for another room since I was not about to take another bath, but it would be nice if they fixed it for future guests.

We love unique places to stay. We are locals of San Diego and love this very cozy getaway. Each room was designed differently and so fun to experience different rooms. Today the owner gave is|Us a tour of the upstairs ocean view rooms which is now going to be a problem for my husband as I want to stay in one of those rooms. Lol. It is rustic which is what I like. A simple old school coffee pot in the courtyard for breakfast with cute mill and sugar dishes. I love that vibe. By the way, really good coffee.

Google
Very cute hotel with character. Pleasant welcome. Excellent coffee, maybe the best I’ve tried in USA! Room on the entrance side a little noisy (fountains stop late) but for two nights it's okay. Great location (near to the road but not a big one).

HEAVEN on EARTH- I evacuated Los Angeles fires on Jan 7th and came to find a safe haven at Les Artistes. The staff was wonderful, kind, understanding. They immediately upgraded me at no additional cost to an ocean view room on the second floor, with a fireplace. Natana greeted me with such kindness, warmth and hospitality rare these days and so refreshing. Les Artistes owner Solana is herself an artist. Her artwork is the hotel itself. Everywhere you look is something beautiful- fountains, flowers, wood carvings, statues, seashells, paintings. This is a family run, boutique hotel. And the town Del Mar is still "old California." Friendly, affluent without the pretense of other beach destinations. On Sunday night the owner cooked a meal for guests and staff and we sat round singing songs, and playing guitars. It was truly a high quality experience, and made me so grateful. I didn't just stay as a guest, I became 'family' and will return for as long as Les Artistes is open.

Google
Very different hotel, has personality in each room, cozy, with a wood stove and, very close from the beach and even closer to all the restaurants, amazing service that makes you feel welcome, thank you very much!!!

My friend and I were on a girls trip that turned into a rainy trip so we decided to find a room at a hotel we could enjoy. We rented the deluxe king suite (I think that is what it was called) that has a private hot tub and let me tell you for the price we got a deal!! The regular tub in the rooms with the spa tubs is more than nice but this with the private hot tub was perfect! We sat in the hot tub (it is a covered patio) and watched the rain and drank some wine. I can’t wait to come back with my boyfriend for a romantic weekend here.

Google
Absolutely adore this place!! I got so scared reading reviews while looking for an inexpensive hotel in the San Diego area. This place is immaculate, everything is new and spotless but it has incredible charm, perfect decor. Huge bathtub and more than enough floor space in my queen room for me to spread out my yoga mat and exercise. I will be staying here every time I’m in the area. Truly a gem.

Google
Such a wonderful place! The people working there are so nice and act as though they are your friends and you are coming to visit them. Very convenient to beach access and walking and many restaurants. Each room is unique and comfortable. I will be back soon.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay here. Walking into the courtyard I felt like I was walking into a European vacation. I would use the words quaint and romantic to describe this Inn. The outdoor courtyards feature wood burning fireplaces and there was a gas fireplace and a very very deep bathtub in the room I stayed in. No complaints.

Yelp
Update: we want to come back, but single night rates are up here and all over Del Mar. Bit of sticker shock. We're going to tie this stay to a appointment so I'll put off my call to John. He and I got along. He makes a great pot of coffee. And the French Bakery is across the street. We ll see!

Yelp
This is a charming hotel and every room is unique and makes you feel like you are in a lovely home. Each room is charming and decorated beautifully. The owners are very nice. The reason for the four stars is the lack of privacy as you can hear everything going on. Loud conversations in the early morning are annoying. The small window that looks into the bathroom was wide open and not well covered and I did not realize this right away and people could literally look inside the bathroom by just lifting the blind. They need to update to soundproof windows.

Yelp
Really nice place, we've stayed here a few times. It's super romantic and the Van Gogh room has an excellent view. It's a small inn and has its quirks but is genuinely a nice place run by nice people. The room could definitely use upgrades but it was just nice to relax and enjoy the ocean view. Definitely will return.

Yelp
Pretty old and run down when you look close but definitively if you dont have a better hotel in Del Mar (prices are not cheap there either) this is a charming spot near the water and shopping plaza. Each room is named with the name of a painter and the whole place has more a 'Thai vibe' than a 'French look' as the name might imply. There are luscious greenery all over the place and the pleasant sound of water and bright painted walls. Nice place to stay to be able to walk to the beach but don't expect top notch faucets, toilets, etc.

Allegra L.

Yelp
Worst place I've ever stayed for this price point and breakfast is not included. It feels outdated not rustic. You don't feel a sense of privacy, it feels cramped, and my room patio overlooked a very close apartment/home. First thing, we arrive at 8pm, we rang the desk and got no answer. (The woman had called me asking when I would arrive and I did say around 8pm). My toddler wanted to step outside and apparently the male owner arrived at this time and twice asked why I didn't call the phone number if no one answered the service buzzer. We had just walked in literally 1-2 minutes before he arrived. I told him that calling the number at the front would be the next thing I did, that we just got there. It felt a little pushy and odd that he was questioning this. It felt very unwelcoming. He took us to our room which was literally filled with the smell of marijuana, as though someone was smoking inside the room itself, it was that strong. I asked for another room which he reluctantly stated there is another but it's only available one night (we booked 2 nights) at which point I should have left, but I had a nightmare day which I won't detail, and we just wanted to settle in to sleep and not try to find another hotel. He seemed bothered to be dealing with me and I asked if there was a different room for tomorrow night and he said this one was available (which at first he said it was not). I owe no explanation but stated that while initially I supported peoples right for legal marijuana I found it offensive that people would smoke in non smoking hotels to which he replied he likes the smell of marijuana, which to me wasn't very reassuring. The air in the room doesn't circulate well, there was a wood fire somewhere outside and the smell stuck in the room even after the wood fire smell was gone outside, it lingered inside all night. You can smell the paint finish a little on one of the beams in the room. For some reason that night I kept smelling paint or some sort of chemical smell coming from outside as well, which was nauseating along with the camp fire smell. It lasted all night so I couldn't sleep. There is not a feeling of safety with the door locks and there isn't an internal dead bolt for the patio or front door. There should absolutely be dead bolts, safety latch lock, or chain locks on the inside of the door. And yet for some reason the bathroom door has an internal dead bold which is bizarre. There was a random dust pan under the bathroom sink and another dust pan left in the sitting area in front of my room. Under the bed was dust and dog hair. Spider webs were on the closet door along with dirt cakes in the corners. The extra blanket in the closet was filthy, strong dirty odor, with a blood stain, for which they did apologetically replace with a clean one. The refrigerator had significant mold and was dirty and the microwave was also very dirty. I am a single mom with a toddler and was made to feel uncomfortable by who I assumed to be the owner, and then worse, when my son was upset when we returned from getting pizza and new toothbrushes, a lady who has also just returned, and happened to have a room next to us, began to say the most rude things to me about my son who was quickly quieted in less than a few minutes, but she basically was telling me he better not cry all night and I'm a terrible mom. I literally started laughing because she was so ridiculous and rude. I promptly left after telling, I assume the female counterpart of the hotel, that this is the worst place I've ever stayed in my life. I figured staying a second night was a bad idea and should have went with my instincts on it after the first night. There are better places to stay for the price.

Yelp
I will say this i have stayed in 5+star hotels, resorts etc... this place by far is my favorite. Me and my fiance just wanted a weekend getaway and we are both used to beach style communities have lived in them and have stayed in many places. Yes to all the yelp complainers this is not a white napkin maid at your door whrn you want but this place has a peaceful calmness like i have never felt before. We were in the japanese room and it was awesome the bed was so comfortable and we did not mind the cobwebs and creaking doors and half a roll of tp on the roll with a full one up above and an old microwave and the remote to tv not working because we were happy inside our souls being there. Our balcony had a view of the ocean just down the hill and the huge torrey pine tree just above us with the fountain in the back off our deck was so healing that all the little stupid things that others complain about seems so irreletive. The young lady that is there in here dutch outfit to greet you and check you in had such a sweet soul and she was always there for whqtever you needed and was always willing to just stand and talk to us i thank you for the awesome person you were to us. We will be back signed christopher and tricia

Yelp
Great owner and property. Each room is handmade. You can tell how much thought, work and live was put into this property. And the early morning complementary coffee is outstanding. Our room had included a front and back patio area. The weather was mild and the shade and dappled light from the trees, despite being a warm day, was a welcome respite. Recommended.

Yelp
If I've ever doubted that I have angels watching over me this place of enchantment completely dismissed any questions I may have had. What a hidden GEM! I have a friend who traveled over 300 miles for medical reasons so I thought, why not surprise her and stay at the Inn just in case she might need assistance. Well, I was the one who was surprised, from my initial call to reserve a room through the end of my stay (one night but it felt like a week of relaxation). I came to help her but I believe that I was the recipient of being healed. Solana was our host and she is simply a joy and a wonderful human (I prefer fur babies and maybe she has the same heart). I can't express enough, if you're someone who enjoys a serene environment, straight from a fairytale, I guarantee this is the place for you. Great job Les Artistes!!!

Yelp
What a cute and quaint little Inn! It's so unique and friendly, we are loving our stay here. Perfect view and sweet settings with fountains and Spanish and beach decor. Thank you for allowing our dog to stay as well. He's having so much fun in dog friendly Del Mar! Thank you for giving your Inn such a great personal touch, we feel very welcome and at home here, so cozy and comfortable! Perfect sunset views and great balcony to the other side for sunrise. Cool ocean breeze all along. It's super close to town to take an evening stroll for dinner and close to the beach to walk down there in the mornings for a beach walk. Love that we don't have to take the car anywhere. This hotel provides all you need for your stay in Del Mar. Perfect stay for us. THANK YOU for your hospitality!!

Amanda I.

Yelp
I still love this place!so I make sure to co.e as often as possible, the views are amazing

Zildheam D.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place, dog friendly and close to restaurants and the water, free parking for guests, clean accommodations and great location. Super small and not quiet space, you will hear everything but that's not unusual for this area, we do recommend this place!

Richard C.

Yelp
Love this place! Warm And cost, with a awesome setting! Can't be beat and can't go wrong either!

Laurie C.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the hotel. Lovingly designed by the owner. All the rooms are unique. We had a garden with a bubbling creek. They were so accommodating. We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
I'm going to cut to the chase: this is the I Ku sub $200 hotel you will find in SD and Del Mar region close to the ocean with a jetted tub. Major points scored for this fact alone. Space allotment isn't huge, but the usage of space is uncanny: microwave, mini fridge, heater, AC, books to read, very soft bed, extra bed sheets, balcony with water fountain and garden view, tables and chairs outside of your room for dining, jetted tub, TV, WiFi. Everything is customized and absolutely charming. It has more soul than my stay at Hotel Del Coronado at a fraction of the price, even though I had a beach front room in Coronado with a fire pit.

Yelp
In Short: My partner and I had a fantastic stay at Les Artistes Inn, and I hope this glowing review encourages any indecisive reader to book a stay there. In Long: I found Les Artistes Inn when searching for an interesting, unique boutique hotel in Del Mar. There is no shortage of fantastic, high-end accommodations in Del Mar - but what separated Les Artistes was its character and charm. Upon arrival, we checked in with an incredibly friendly woman who guided us to our room. From our room we had a beautiful view of the dripping June sunset over Del Mar (photo below), and appreciated the stunning view from the eclectic, clean room. When I saw the room, I loved it. Truthfully, I was a bit surprised; I had read some mixed reviews.. so I didn't know what to expect. After my stay - and thinking back on those reviews - I've really wanted to leave a review of my own, to "set the record straight." To be emphatically clear: I was delighted with the room we booked - when I first saw it, and writing this review now upon reflection. It was beautiful, quirky, comfortable and clean. In searching for accommodations north of San Diego, my partner and I wanted to take a chance on somewhere new. I say confidently, we found a real gem in Les Artistes Inn. Had we known it was dog friendly, we might have brought a pup, too! I don't write many Yelp reviews.. However, when I have a wonderful stay, made possible an accommodating, friendly staff, I really want to give credit where credit is due (even at the risk of "blowing up" a place I'd like to keep as a hidden gem). We loved Les Artistes Inn, and appreciate the folks who made our short stay comfortable and memorable.

Yelp
This motel has enormous well appointed rooms but is located very close to the freeway.

Timothy J.

Yelp
Place was dirty, sheets were all stained. The bed comforter looked like it had been urinated on. The locks for doors were out of date and felt very unsafe. We didn't even spend the night. Couldnt sleep in a urinated, sperm stained sheets. The lady was extremely rude. We asked for new sheets n she brought em and said if theres any more issues we can just leave. Would like my money back but left in disgust didnt even want to argue with the lady. Definitely suggest checking your sheets before you sleep like we did less you dont mind sleeping in dirty linens. Wish I had four Thumbs so I can give this hotel four thumbs down!

Hillcrest R.

Yelp
Gorgeous place - awful and rude ( male) owner. Lady owner is cool. When I checked in I was scolded and no smile because I was delayed 45 minutes. I still was there before 10 and was treated like I was inconveniencing the owner!! Appears to be a bnb but there is no breakfast. I asked to hold my room one more night and they did not do that while I stopped in town --and even mentioned I wanted to stay three more nights. ( my plans were fluid). I understood that I needed to pay ahead and it is a business and my word was not worth anything to them. It's all about the money. I can understand that. What i don't understand is this. Since I had to check out immediately and my weekend plans were now changed I had to arrange for a ride to SD. I was waiting for my ride, sitting in the common areas making a videocall for a meeting after I checked out and was approached by the rule male owner who asked " are you going to be here much longer?" I have traveled the whole world and was never treated so rudely by hotel STAFF. They are supposed to be in hospitality but I did not get that vibe at all. I wanted to ask him to hold my bags so I could go somewhere else to take the call but I didn't think he would help me either. They sound like they are bohemian S and this is a place for artists, but it is not- not friendly vibe at all. The place is beautiful ..homey and quaint but I will certainly not be back. On one end scolding because you are inconveniencing them ( family run bed and breakfast attitude?) on the other expensive and business only/ motel attitude. Decide what you want to be! Artists? If you have 300-400 dollar a night only ... My room was beautiful and lots of garden places to work but the outlets were all busted ( one looked burned) and one surcharged and caused my laptop not to work :( I was going to recommend it to all my friends and that is not happening now. Gorgeous look of the place - rude and mean owner with attitude who definitely is in the wrong line of work and not friendly to paying customers. Too bad! So much potential.

Samantha C.

Yelp
An absolutely charming getaway spot! My husband and I booked on a whim just because the photos were so cute, and it was even better than our expectations... adorable custom-designed rooms (we stayed in the O'Keefe room, with a Southwestern adobe design concept), kind staff with a cute dog, breezy patio and balconies, easy check in and out, plentiful parking! Also a great French bakery right across the street for morning scones. Can't wait to come again!

Conor R.

Yelp
This is not really the greatest place one could choose. While the location is nice, the overall "feel" of this place is not what you might be expecting when you pull in to beautiful Del Mar looking forward to a wonderful place to stay. The L'Auberge, it is not! A few photos might do a better job than a simple review, but...... overall, it was unclean. The floor was sticky and dirty. The walls were dirty. The TV was small, old and dirty. The toilet seat was splintered and not, great. They will call you early on the morning of check in merely to ask, "when are you checking in", which had a creepy vibe and then when arriving, there was no one there. After waiting for a little while, the manager arrived and began the process, which was also odd. It was a little like we were on Candid Camera or Punked, because it was a just a little awkward. When the office door opened it smelled of cats, and lot's and lot's of cats. None were seen, but if I were a betting man, I'd go all in that this was cat central in Del Mar. They are VERY serious about parking and getting your parking pass filled out correctly. You need to know your license plate number or you're parking on the street. That was actually funny and understandable as the lot is under construction and seems a tad limited. Good luck.

Corey R.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for her birthday and loved it! - It is the quintessential example of someone living the American dream. The architect who designed it is also the owner and will probably check you in when you arrive. She also designed another hotel down the street where the outrageously delectable café secret is! Literally a wood stove fireplace in the room with complementary fast-lighting logs. Original paintings and sculptures complement the unique aesthetic of the rooms. Plenty of natural light and a little patio that overlooks the ocean, absolutely our new favorite spot in Del Mar. If you are looking for a beautiful and unique, relaxing and inspiring stay in Del Mar, this is the spot. Every room is themed around a different artist so they are all unique. We stayed in the Vittriano room, which is the only one with a fireplace. Thank you to the owners!

Craig E.

Yelp
Really bizarre. The room was dingy and came with nothing besides bathroom towels and a TV from the 90s. No trash can, the soap dispenser looks like it was taken from a public park, spider webs inside and out, hole in the "garden view" deck, and there was a pair of leopard pants left behind from the previous guest. The woman at the front desk laughed as she offered us a complementary breakfast of bananas that sat in the fireplace and fruit bars with a can of paint on top of them. A man approached us asking if we were checking out and asked for our room key. The whole experience regarding the staff was awkward. Felt as though we were imposing on someone's home. Definitely not worth $200 a night.

RS W.

Yelp
Neat place with art theme and ocean views. Friendly staff and within walking distance to local shops and restaurants.

Gloria H.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here over fourth of July this year and I cannot wait to head back! These lovely folks were even able to accommodate our dogs! You are a very short distance from the ocean with sweeping views, a few parks, and even a train if you're feeling adventurous. Del Mar feels like a small town with lots of great local restaurants and boutique shops. We had an incredibly clean room with fresh linens, a beautiful tub and even a small balcony with a spectacular view! I especially loved all the small intricate details from tiles, to paintings, to the literature in the room. They even had a wet bar right outside our room the, "Van Gogh" and had a few courtyard areas for entertaining. I can't wait to check out the other one-of-a-kind rooms!

Christie L.

Yelp
We loved staying at this hotel. There was a small, lush garden outside our room with giant swallowtails swirling around each other in play, and the water fountain was a soothing sound. The beach is a short walk away, as is downtown Del Mar. Perfect location. Our room was clean - no complaints at all! The front desk was very helpful and welcoming. I adored the whimsical, friendly atmosphere of this beautiful, unique place. I hope to stay here again!

Mac T.

Yelp
This is the most unique getaway in san diego. A true getaway gem. Service is second to none, as is the comfort. Beds are large and warm, as you drift to sleep the smell of campfire and the sounds of the crashing waves soothe your every stress away. Walking distance to a bubbling downtown beach scene, you'll not be disappointed. Private balconies, artist themed rooms, and family friendly staff. My stay is rejuvenating every time. By far a one and only of its kind. Much love to the owners and staff. Thank you!

Meg G.

Yelp
Eccentric and pretty, right up my alley. Takes dogs so also works. It was fifty dollars for dog, which I had no problem with because many others are 150 extra with dog and everyone knows these pups are coming from the beach. They have a dog shower in the corridor and all rooms are surrounded by a lush courtyard. The upper rooms have great views of the ocean and it was really quiet and safe in this town of 4500. It's within walking distance (one to four blocks depending on where) of many restaurants and shops and most places have outdoor seating and also allow pups. Every room is named for an artist and each one has a different layout. They all have balconies that face a koi pond or more courtyards or the ocean. I almost booked the king suite online, which would have had a huge ocean view terrace but I wasn't sure if dogs were allowed in that one. They light the fireplaces at night and the whole place smells good. They do need to update TV and decor a little and the beautiful upstairs breakfast bar was closed so that was disappointing, maybe it's open in summer?

David N.

Yelp
This place is a dump. Tiny, dirty and clueless owner. They assured me they had WIFI and after I got a room and checked in the owner said "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't." I got my money back and left. There are much nicer hotels for the same price in the area.

Ryan C.

Yelp
I had an okay time at Les Artistes during a recent overnighter in Del Mar. There were a ton of weddings and a festival in town, so the rooms available were limited, and definitely on the pricey side. We checked out some of the reviews on Yelp and they were all over the place, but the photos on hotels.com made this spot look quaint and comfy, so we ultimately made our reservations. Photos can be deceiving. We pulled up to an older looking building with neon lights signifying that we had reached our destination. Parking was super limited and we ended up having to park in an adjacent parking lot since there is a huge storage container in their middle of theirs. It's also not paved, so be prepared to drive over some bumpy ground. Each room is different in terms of theme. Some are after famous artists, some try to replicate different regions in the world, and some just have generic names like "Zen." We got the "Diego" room and we couldn't quite tell if they meant San Diego, or Diego Rivera. If it was after the artist, I didn't see the resemblance since the art didn't have the feeling of any of his paintings. The innkeeper was a nice guy and even walked us to our room, opened the door and showed us where everything was. I think he might have been the owner, as he was there from sun up to sun down. The room itself was spacious with hardwood floors. It felt more like a cabin than a comfortable hotel room. The bed was standard and there was a small flat screen TV near the ceiling in the upper corner of the room. The sink is also outside of the actual restroom, and the shower is a 70's looking tiled area with soap and shampoo available through dispensers. I kind of felt like I was camping? Our view could see the ocean, but it looked into a lot of people's backyards. Weird, but it was fine. They also offered a desk and free wifi that seemed to cut in and out intermittently during our stay. The grounds themselves were unique and there were a lot of communal areas. Like I said, I didn't dislike my stay here, but I don't think I was ready for the camp like atmosphere that it provided. With a lot of more modern accommodations in the area, I'd probably skip this one on the next visit if I had to stay in Del Mar again.

Cecilia D.

Yelp
We went there 18 years ago. I loved it. I wish it all the best. It was the original air B n B with its themed rooms and cozy corners....pebbles walk ways. Warm muffins in the morning, good wine and little babbling brooks and water falls everywhere. Beautiful memories.

Nicole L.

Yelp
We stayed in the premier room and it was amazing! We had our own private oasis including a jacuzzi, bbq, large patio, fire pit and view of the ocean sunset! Very romantic and cozy. Managers are very nice and accommodating and make you feel like it's your place :) This place is not big so if you are looking for quaint and unique, definitely worth a try. We definitely felt like we were on vacation

Stacey B.

Yelp
This was a horrible place to stay, so not worth the money, to bad I can't give negative stars.. Bugs in the room, thick dust and dirt everywhere, mold on the walls, outlets that don't work, blood on the blankets.. Walls are so thin you cam hear every noise your neighbors make clearly, grounds people can walk right outside your bedroom doors, construction was going on and they didn't call ahead to tell us so we were up all weekend.. Most of the rooms don't have a clear view of the ocean unless you climb on deck chairs, and our room was said to be a ocean view room

Sarah S.

Yelp
Pros: It was artistic and all the water fountains and fireplace were beautiful. I did enjoy sitting by the fire at night. Cons: Owner was rude and staff was awkward. The place needs lots of repairs and updates. Location: Location is great. Its 1 block from the beach (cliffs) and walking distance to shops and restaurants. This place is very funky and has lots of character and neat touches on the surface but its very run down. Our room was full of gnats and mosquitoes, one of the comforters had blood on it, the pillow cases were stained (or dirty) with makeup, there was mold on the shower curtain, lots of peeling paint in the bathroom, the 19 inch television was an old bulky model, the walls were so thin that I could hear all of the noise and conversations in the office and "lobby" area which is really just a patio with a fireplace. We were only provided with 1 roll of toilet paper which was less than half full. I could not figure how to operate the shower and needed to ask staff to teach me as the instructions on the wall of the bathroom were no help. While I was sitting outside enjoying the fireplace, I noticed a woman and her daughter check in. Less than 20 minutes later, they checked out because they were so displeased with the condition of this motel. Each room has its own art theme which was not much more than torn and wrinkled posters taped up on the walls. It was truly disappointing and I would have left had my young son not actually liked it. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're looking for anything nice.

Yelp
We decided to spend a night in Del Mar as a last minute decision after visiting friends in San Diego from Arizona. We found Les Artistes Inn because it was a very reasonable price and was dog friendly. I am a HUGE lover of art and eclectic things, so when we arrived at this hotel I was very, very pleasantly surprised. It was quaint and quiet and even provided a view of the sea from the artist Jack Vettriano room we stayed in (which had a fire place!). The rest of the hotel had an indoor/outdoor setting which made us feel like we weren't even in the states. I loved it. The service was amazing - they were beyond accommodating to our needs. I can't think of anything they could have done to make us more comfortable.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Pros: so freaking cute. Room was clean- our room was not dated. Beds are soooo soft and comfortable. Unique in itself. Courtyard had cute atmosphere. Our room had a tiny patio with a view of a fountain and foliage. Cute skylight in the room. Modern bathroom. Cons: lobby fireplace had a fire going, but you could only smell a strong smokey smell- like a campfire. Our rooms toilet would run about every 20minutes and it was loud. When we arrived and parked (we arrived way early before check in so we just wanted to park by the hotel and then walk around) a lady came up to us and said "you're way too early for check in, people still sleeping, check in not til four..."she kept repeating herself, and we finally asked if she wanted us to leave and not park there until check in and she said "no that's ok" It seemed like she didn't want us there before check in, but it could've been she was hard to understand. Continental breakfast consisted of 3 types of pastries and basic coffee. I don't think we will ever stay in Del Mar again, however this place was alright for a night.

Yelp
Love it here! Each room is themed to different artists and is unique in its own way. Our room "De Lempicka" was amazing. We had our own spa right on the patio along with a grill and fire pit over looking the ocean. The staff are so sweet and helpful, going out of there way to make sure your comfortable and more than happy. We will definitely be back. Such a chill little spot!

Yelp
I read the reviews and have stayed here before, AND.... I am still a return customer!! For the people that have nit-picked this place apart, please go stay at the Four Seasons or L'Auberge up the street! I have stayed at both but I have also paid a few hundred more dollars per night for either one. This place is cute, quaint, peaceful, accepts dogs, and is in a great location in Del Mar! It has a spa-like feel to the rooms and makes you feel like you are staying at a bed-and-breakfast up in the mountains. I was on the bottom floor and still had an ocean view. I never received bad service. Coffee and pastries are served by the front desk in the morning and parking is right out front. There is even a notebook in the room where people throughout the years have written about their experiences there, the "old school way!" My pictures include my room around the property. Enjoy!!

Yelp
I recently stayed here (like 2wks ago). It was OK. I was lead to believe that I was booking a different room than I got. I was told I got a "Large" room & it was not what was on Booking. com... It was cute, clean & these ore was lovely. The fireplace was beautiful but it was way too hot to use. The ac was barely noticeable. The owner/manager was nice, although quirky. It is 1 blk from the beach but it's on a beach cliff. There is one way up/down which is rather steep & there is spray paint on the road leading to the cliff that says "locals only". Not the friendliest attitudes. Overall it was quiet, the bath was nice but wasn't what I expected/had in mind... I probably won't be retuning because the room was tiny for what I paid (I'd hate to see what a small room is) & there is a ZERO cancellation policy. If you have some issue you're screwed out of your money.

Yelp
Great experience. Wam and inviting. Very quiet and quaint. Peaceful. Our room was unique and beautiful with an ocean view. Close to the main hwy where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping within walking distance. I would recommend a stay here and will be back:-) Also woke up to a cozy fire kindling in the fireplace where I say and enjoyed coffee and fresh fruit with their cute puppy "Shorty"

Yelp
We had a delightful stay at Les Artistes Inn in Del Mar this past weekend. Low key, low speed. Walking-close to the beach & to downtown restaurants. Reminded me of many warm, quaint guest houses that we've stayed throughout Thailand.

Yelp
First time staying here and my wife and I loved it ! We decided to make it our permanent little getaway. Staff was great and very kind. The room was absolutely amazing and our view of the ocean was beautiful. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I am giving this 4 stars because it is "cute" and different. Location-wise, it is great, assuming Del Mar is your hangout destination. I was on a work trip so didn't have a choice in regards to the city; be forewarned that Del Mar goes to sleep early and wakes up late. For a bit, I was anxious at 6am that I wouldn't be able to find a cup of coffee. Luckily, there IS a Starbucks. But back to the hotel - it definitely has character. If you like unique charm more so than fancy trends, you will probably enjoy the cozy rooms, with floor boards that creak, and interesting artwork on the walls. There isn't a lobby but instead, a welcoming fireplace. The room keys are literally keys that you return, instead of disposable cards that you swipe and leave in your luggage to discover months later. I was surprised to see a flat-screen television because other than that, the room felt like a time machine to 15 years ago. I am okay with pleasant flashbacks though, and probably my only complaint is the customer service. I booked my room in the evening through booking.com, only to learn my employer booked a room for me elsewhere. I called the hotel in the morning and they would not let me cancel - instead, they told me to call booking.com to try to cancel. Ok. I called booking.com and was placed on hold for 20 minutes. I finally connected to a nice customer representative and explained my situation. They told me they could call the hotel on my behalf and would then call me back. It seemed weird, since I had just called the hotel myself, but whatever. 5 minutes later, booking.com called me back to tell me that the hotel would not let me cancel. They suggested I call the hotel myself. Full circle. Had the hotel room really been a time machine, I would have requested that 30 minutes of my life back. I doubt that within the 12 hours of reserving the room and trying to cancel, that someone else called to book the room. In fact, the Vacancy light on the hotel was on for both nights of my stay, so it's not like allowing me to cancel within a very reasonable time frame would have cost money. In fact, it would have made them money because I need to return to Del Mar in 2 weeks and I would have stayed there again. But this time, I am going to let my employer do the picking since they pick hotels that allow you to cancel when you make a booking mistake. I didn't remove any stars from the review though - just user beware.

Yelp
We booked last minute as our homeaway beach house rental left more to be desired, and this hotel was perfect. It is a relaxed, bohemian, Spanish with a mix of Southeast Asia. If you like a more cookie cutter type place, it's not for you! But if you like originality and ambiance this is the place for you. Our room had a tiny patio that looked out into a water fountain, with built in book shelves and Botero paintings. Each room is themed after a famous artist. My brother stayed on the 2nd floor and had an ocean view. They have coffee, fruit and pastries in the morning. We came during summer but I'd like to come back during winter because they have a lobby in front with a fireplace.

Yelp
Great value for the money. Cute, unique, private patios, outdoor fireplace, etc. It was such a nice change from a chain hotel. Close enough to walk to lots of Del Mar shops and restaurants. No ocean views or sounds, but great location. Cozy, homey, unique feel.

Yelp
I wish i could give negative stars for this place. Where should i start? The beautiful view of the industrial dumpster in the front?, or the incredibly abrupt and rude Asian windbag whom screamed words i couldn't make out as we entered the door.. let me back up... the first thing to greet us as we entered the lobby was a large swarm of flys. Long story short, avoid this place... without asking why we had walked In we were told "get out of here", we don't want your business"... glad we stopped in to look... this place is s dump!

Yelp
It's 2am. You've just been bused from LA because San Diego Airport was closed due to fog. You finally get to your b&b... and it's closed. So you steal their wireless to post a bad review on yelp. And the wireless goes out. Sigh. It doesn't pay to be malicious. Pros: - if you're in town for a wedding, location is convenient - the staff is kind and they'll hold your bag for you all day while you wander around Con: - this is not a b&b - Monet? O'Keefe? Art isn't what you're going to associate with this place. It's dingy.

Yelp
I loved the theme room. It was cute and had personal touches everywhere from the books to the impressively tiled floor. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into the room. The bed was big and comfy, everything was very clean shower bathroom sink. The only thing that could make this place better if they made it a real B&B and offered a real hot breakfast. The space up stairs area would be perfect for that on a sunny morning it would be absolutely delightful what a way to end a romantic weekend. P.S. I understand that this place is unique, and may not be for everyone. Hope you all enjoy your stay as much as I did. Owner were truly nice and know how to make a customer happy.

Yelp
Can't stress enough how bad of an experience we had here. Do yourself a favor and take a minute to call before booking. Speak to the woman who I believe is the owner and you'll immediately understand what I'm talking about. I don't know her name so I'll refer to her as CP. I think you'll quickly determine that you do not want to support this place. Here's our story, I made a reservation via booking.com, however I also called the hotel to ask a few questions regarding the room. CP misinformed me over the phone. I was under the impression we were getting an upstairs room with an ocean view which I paid a higher rate for. When we arrived we were given a ground level room without an ocean view and more importantly, without a bathtub which was essential to me because I was sick with a cold and had been looking forward to taking an epsom salt bath. When she noticed we were disappointed she tried to kick us out. Here's a short excerpt from our interaction with her 5 minutes after we checked in... CP: I'm canceling your reservation, you can go to one of our neighbors. Us: No we'll keep the room. We do not want to cancel. CP: You're not happy here, I'm canceling your reservation. Us: You can't do that, we've already paid for the room, it's late, we don't know the area and we may not be able to find a room at this time since it's the night before xmas eve. All we want to do is go to sleep. CP: I don't care, I don't want to see your face. Us: We're not leaving, you can call the police if you want. CP: Walked into our room and would not leave.... (Her behavior was absolutely ridiculous, RUDE and completely unfit for running a business in hospitality). Meanwhile, John, the really nice guy who works there looked mortified. Thank you John for being the mediator and preventing the situation from escalating further. In the end, we felt unsafe so we left.
