20 Best Culinary Experiences and Food Tours in Paris

"Les Caves du Louvre, run by the team at Ô Chateau, a well-known Paris wine bar, is an underground wine-discovery center in the 18th-century wine cellars once used by King Louis XV’s sommelier. To visit is to tour five rooms to learn the basics of terroir, smelling, tasting, labeling, and bottling wine. Entry is 29 euros for a self-guided tour (done with the Les Caves du Louvre app) or 36 euros for a guided tour in English, tasting included. If you've purchased a Paris Pass sightseeing card, you can gain free admission for a guided tour and tasting of three basic wines." - Catherine Down, Lindsey Tramuta

With only a few days in Paris we took the self guided tour as it had flexible times. We greatly appreciated the informative audio guide. Jean Baptiste was very helpful to share about the three wines we tasted and answer our novice questions. It was a lovely visit to a beautiful cellar.

Google
We had a fantastic experience at Les Caves du Louvre! Our guide, Irvine, was exceptional—well-informed, humble, and clearly passionate about wine. He made the tour engaging and educational, sharing insights not just about the wines themselves but also the history, geography, and science behind them. The setting was truly unique—exploring the old royal wine cellars offered an authentic and immersive atmosphere. Everything was thoughtfully planned out, from the layout of the caves to the interactive elements throughout the tour. And of course, the wine tasting was a highlight. Each wine we tried was delicious and carefully chosen to match the themes discussed during the tour. We came away not only with a deeper appreciation for French wine, but also with a better understanding of what makes each bottle so special. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Paris, whether you’re a wine enthusiast or just curious to learn more.

Google
We had a 1 hour tasting tour with Irvin and it was fantastic! Not only was he funny and a great conversationalist but also taught us more about how to taste wine and understand what we like than I've experienced prior during any other concert about wine. The setting was also BEAUTIFUL which doesn't hurt! Highly recommend.

Google
Fantastic experience set in the medieval cellars of the louvre. Fabulous pairings of wine and cheese, hosted by a top sommelier. Fantastic evening, of information, learning and humour. One of the best experiences we’ve been to! Highly recommended!

Google
Great way to celebrate father's day! Whats better to drink champagne and wine in the most beautiful city of France !

Dmitry G.

Google
Our guide was a charming lady with a neck issue, but she gave us an excellent, charismatic tour! She really knows her wines and made the tasting experience very enjoyable.

Eileen Glasshofer

Google
Had an amazing wine & cheese tasting experience. Sommelier was the best, she explained the French wine system and the pairings were perfect.

Rachel Ellison

Google
The best wine and cheese tasting I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few). Great wine & cheese selections. The host was very knowledgeable. Was such a fun experience! Definitely go, you will not be sorry!

Yelp
This was a beautiful and educational experience. We found out about this place on TikTok and was able to snag same day tickets on their website. I think other folks have purchased tickets through other 3rd party vendors. It's a great space to come as a date or group activity. We stayed off the room with the cellar and ended in the bar. 3 wins total per person and juice options for non-alcohol drinkers ( I thought this was very inclusive). All in all a very affordable and cool experience. My only wish is that they served more wines and provided a pamphlet with all the information shared.

Yelp
Jared and I went here with the Go City pass for a tour and it was super informative! We're not very big wine drinkers but we learned all about the different regions of production, the types of soil needed, how its best to grow grapes on a slope for maximum sun... there was a cool room where we got to pretend to be a sommelier and smell a bunch of different scents and try to match them up (i.e. a fruity station, a nutty and chocolatey station) - it was very immersive! On the tour, we got to try 3 different wines; my favorite was a pinot noir. The cellars themselves were very cool - they used to be the King's old personal wine cellar! Would recommend doing a tour here.

Yelp
Had an amazing time wine tasting our guide was excellent and definitely learned a lot

Yelp
My daughter and I did the classic wine tasting and we both had a great time while learning interesting facts about wine. You go through a few rooms in the cave, all of them beautiful, while tasting a white and two red wines. Our sommelier was very knowledgeable and passionate about his cCave, A cool thing to do in Paris.

Yelp
This was a Wine and Cheese Tasting With a Sommelier that was educational and delightful. There were eight of us. In a wine cavern. 10 wines and cheese matching 5 red, 5 white. Each one was different from the last. Almost 2 hours with the small tour. One woman had been before. And this wasn't the same at all. But she had the same host. All guests were Americans and the event was in English. Best hundred I've spent all week.

Yelp
I did the free self guided tour but purchased the wine tasting at the end. My friend and I each got a tasting, the basic at 19euros and the mid one at 34euros. Plenty of wine even when split. The staff was super knowledgeable and shared so much with us! We ended to buying a bottle from each of the tastings and very much enjoyed those the next two days.

Yelp
François est exceptionnel ! He is very knowledgeable and an amazing sommelier. We wanted to continue learning about more and after knowing him we decided to study more about the wine industry!

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. Solid 4.5/5 if I was able to get one. I had this on a travel list, and was pleased I was able to make it out here. Easy to book a time slot online. Access to the facility (self-guided tour, sensory bar, etc) is free, and you can purchase wine tastings if you like. There is a phone app that accompanies, but I didn't find much use from it. Instead I walked downstairs and dove right in. I really enjoyed the sensory area. The "scent shakers" area was a very nice spot to reinforce the myriad of notes that can be present in wine. You'll be surprised how many you can pick out! I was at an early time slot ~ 2:15p ~ and it felt like a private event for me. I enjoyed not having the crowds that are present at many of the attractions. I wished I would have gotten their names, but our tasting guides/somms were absolutely fantastic. First, we had the pleasure of having a very polite, knowledgeable gentleman (from the UK/France) guide us through the standard tasting. He was very well-versed in the wines and regions and I enjoyed learning about the particulars of the appellations. I enjoyed all three of the wines. After the first tasting, we decided to stay longer and add the signature tasting. For the second tasting, a wonderful lady led us through three more selections. I could go on, but you should experience it for yourself. It's not an all-day event (aside from tastings, it is quite short, maybe 10-15 minutes to see the other areas in the Caves), and I think contrasting with the other attractions in Paris, it's a great way to get a sort of "sampler" of some great wines. Ended up purchasing two wines to take (the 2017 Bourgogne Chitry Pinot Noir and the 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape). My only reason for leaving a star (or half) off, there were other rooms that looked to be interesting, but I think were only used for larger groups or guided tours, but would have been nice to have an intro or some interaction. ------ My barometer: A tasting in Napa can run maybe $15-$30-$50+, so I feel I got a good value here.

Yelp
Very cool spot to visit and go in the caves/tunnels. However the 3 wines we tasted were very mediocre - not worth the 19 euros we paid. Recommend doing the free tour without tastings to see the place. Also the "sommelier" was shitting on natural wines when I asked if they had any. But they spoke English which was quite nice.

Karen B.

Yelp
Beautiful wine cellar and out host was very knowledgeable. This tour make learning about wines fun. It's a quick one hour with about 4 tastings. I gave it a 3 stars because I found all of the wines they showed us and pushed to sell us in the US at Binny's for less than they sold. For example a 20 euro bottle of wine sold back in the states for $17. So you're paying about $4-$5 more and you have to wrap it up in your suitcase to bring back. Plus, the merchant lied when we tried to get a tax receipt back and gave us a receipt that couldn't be scanned by the machines at the airport. Take the tour, buy the wine at home.

Yelp
This was one of my fave activities in Paris, and I'm so glad I booked it since we got free access from our Paris Pass. The only extra step is to book a reservation online, print your ticket, and you're good to go. We had the option to either get a guided tour with our wine tasting, or a free bottle of wine if we used the audio guide. We opted for the guided tour, and ended buying one bottle to share at the end. It was very informative, and enjoyable to learn about wine from each region of France. We were encouraged to ask questions, and it was helpful that our guide spoke English. There's a fun interactive game in the middle of the tour. Not to mention, the wine cellar below was exciting to explore and look at! Highly recommend that you book this if you are visiting!! Cheers!

Yelp
The wine tour came with the Paris Pass, and was a highlight for us this trip to Paris. We opted for the free self-guided tour and bottle of wine. So glad we did. The tour guide had a heavy accent and rushed the group through each area. We, on the other hand, took our time looking at each activity, taking lots of photos, and reading everything displayed. I highly recommend experiencing the caves and marveling at how serious the French take their wine. You really can't have a bad glass.

Yelp
Excellent experience! The cave is absolutely beautiful and our sommelier was so knowledgeable and friendly to Us Americans :) thanks for the personalized wine bottle too! It was a great thing to do right before a tour of the Louvre. Close and walking distance to the museum! Thanks again :)

Molly K.

Yelp
Great wine making class. Super fun and educational and the wine was amazing! Instructor was fantastic,

Yelp
I booked a tasting/tour with my Paris Pass and, despite my issues with Paris Pass, this place was amazing! The tour guide, François, was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, and over all a great person. He really unveiled the mystique of the French sommelier. The wine tastings were generous and surprisingly delicious given that I generally prefer wines from South America and elsewhere. I recommend it 100%

Yelp
I was looking at the Paris pass and saw this place. Why not?! It's tucked away and only a quick walk from the Louvre. Some decent bakeries and a little park in the area too. Anyway, it's a small little shop on the surface but a super cool building underneath. We pre ordered tickets which I recommend. Just makes sure you have a spot and can customize your experience. It was a small group maybe 10 people. All nationalities, very fun. We got started with the tour and they walk you through lots of topics. From soil to regions to labels. Very cool and honestly ask questions. It makes it more fun. No questions and it feels like a bad school field trip. And you really don't appreciate the guides till they start with the questions. After your tastings you get to the bar and finish your tour. It was a fun way to spend a few hours. Was it the best one in town? Maybe not but it was well done.

Yelp
I strongly believe the reviews you will find below were written by friends and family of employees. A lot of fluff coupled with unfortunate, inaccurately advertised deals online. This is coupled with staff who behave in a standoffish fashion with any inquiry of why in person and online advertising didnt align. We showed up a few minutes late and had originally signed up for the self guided tour that provided a free bottle of wine per visitor at the end. When we showed up we were rushed into a guided tour and obliged given we didnt know any better. The actual facility was nice and had a good bit of history. Our tour guide was able to provide history about the actual place but had overall provided little for wine knowledge. She was not a certified sommelier. Most of the wine knowledge provided could be easily identified by reading a free, introductory website about wine. Simple questions could not be answered and it seemed like some of the other tourists were more informed. At the end of the tour, we were frankly asked to write a nice review about the place and rate it well on Yelp and Trip Advisor. We tasted something around four different wines total, estimated maybe for a total of 1.5 glasses. The wines provided were smooth and tasted of at least average quality. At the end of the tour you are taken to the shop for the wine tour where you could purchase wine. I asked two seperate employees about the free bottle of wine. The first dismissed the inquiry and pinned the issue on me, stating I should have said something right from the start. The second employee seemed annoyed and disinterested in the question, implying if I wasnt going to purchase wine, then it was my time to leave. I discussed the issue with other tour attendees who were actually disappointed and confused about the situation as well. Prior the the inappropriate treatment by the staff I would say the lack of actual teaching about wine alongside the meager portion of wine would make this a two to three star rated place compared to other place in Paris to taste. The frankly rude and dismissive behavior with the request for good reviews makes it clear to me that this place is interested in your money and not your satisfaction. I would also note that these guys signed my email up onto their mailing list without my permission. These guys snuck onto the Paris Pass and started off by providing a big bang for the buck, the moment they built up clientele and a number of decent reviews, however, the business model changed. At this point, frankly not worth the money.

Yelp
I really struggled with this tour. I would probably recommend if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic and you knew nothing about wine. I booked the tour because COVID-safe procedures were advertised everywhere, but immediately upon the start of the tour, the guide took off his mask and kept it off. The spaces are all pretty small and he frequently put his nose to the bottle he was pouring our tastes from, which made me extremely uncomfortable. He also seemed to focus on the most minor things (I.e. 20 min on the dirt of citrus trees), but told us nothing really relatable for wine tasting, including anything really about the wines we tasted.
google avatar

Dina M.

Yelp
If you're a real wine aficionado then this place isn't for you. The tour really isn't more than a short walk through a few rooms. They charge a lot for tastings of just so so wines. Then offer you to purchase. The tastings was done by one girl who seemed to take forever to get to the next pour. In fact the couple next to me vocalized this saying can we please get to the next tasting, we waited 10 minutes for you to start. And it was that, at least 10 minutes between. She would stop & start over when new people would walk up. Better places in Paris to satisfy your wine tasting desire.

Yelp
As I sipped my glass of petit sirah last night, I thought about how much more I now know about what was in that glass. All thanks to a wine tasting course at Les Caves du Louvre. The class was engaging, informative, and well paced. We were able to test all of our senses and taste several wines all while gaining interesting knowledge from a handsome sommelier! He was very patient and made all of us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable...no matter the questions asked. He was no nice and encouraging. And easy on the eyes as well! The location was very easy to find. The space was thoughtfully designed, creating a sort of cellar-like feel. Not stuffy or claustrophobic at all. Want to gain some knowledge about the juice that comes from Jesus to impress and sprinkle your friends with? Hop on in and grab a seat. Oh, be sure to make a reservation first!

Yelp
This place was amazing! We've been on plenty of wine tours and tastings before, but this took things to a whole new level. Our guide was so knowledgeable, friendly, and funny! He made the whole experience even better than it'd have been otherwise. It was neat to experience the different senses and steps in the process. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Super friendly, super knowledgeable, and one of the nicest wine tasting cellars I have been too. This place was a hidden gem. Very cool, interactive history of wine from grapes to the fermentation process. They really help you understand wine on an almost scientific level. Then you get to taste wine from the region from an expert. Our lady was great, really friendly and fun to talk to. Did I mention you get to take home a couple bottles of wine? Oh yeah, that seals the deal. Perfect place to chill on a rainy day in Paris.
google avatar

Ferny C.

Yelp
If you have an hour...definitely do the wine tasting here. Lionel our sommelier brought us on an informative and fun tasting which I learned so much about French wines and history. Notable things are that the cellars are beautiful. They have an art display hall with barrels, the soil room has panels which you have these wooden scent pieces and you test your sense by matching the wooden pieces with the corresponding scents. So freaking cool. Give it a try it was included on the Paris Pass it costs 11 Euros. Enjoy...we left tipsy so don't drive there.
google avatar

Veronica P.

Yelp
The tour itself was great and our sommelier was very engaging, answered all our questions, and provided us with interesting information. They do need to do something about the noisy people on self-guided tours. A very large group came in and made a bunch of noise causing our sommelier to have to talk over them. It was a minor inconvenience.

Yelp
We had purchased the Paris Pass for our trip to Paris and the "Caves du Louvre" was included as one of the free experiences we could try, so naturally we decided to try it out. We weren't really sure what to expect, but figured we'd probably get to taste a few wines and that'd be more than worth it. Our guide was incredibly friendly and *extremely* knowledgeable. She could answer just about any question we had, and after the tour spent lots of time chatting with us and answering any other lingering questions. As for the visit itself, what a unique experience. Built in the former caves of the Louvre, while you taste wine you are taken through several different rooms, each one dedicated to a different element of wine making; be it terroir, scent, labels, and bottling. Our favourite room was the "scent" room which featured an interactive "game" where you had to try and identify scents. Not only was it surprisingly fun, it also really taught us a lot about how to smell your wine. As for the free wine, it was much better than expected. You also got a lot more than we expected. The tour ends through the "gift shop" where you can buy all of the wines we tasted for a very reasonable price, as well as others that you might not be able to find as easily elsewhere (certainly not easily back home). The only downside, was that they were out of wine sleeves making packing the wine for our flight was going to be tricky. All in all this was such a cool and unique experience, in a beautiful location, and considering it was free for us, we couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Genevieve G.

Yelp
Wow. What an experience. This place was the best attraction I went to during my trip in Paris. Our host, Roger, was just so friendly and knowledgeable. I found out so many things about wine that I hadn't learned in USA wineries. I ended up buying about 4 bottles of wine that I had sampled. This is a must stop by if you're in Paris and you love wine.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
This is a beautiful and very informative winery. They have tour guides and interactive games to learn about wine! We came here on our last day of the Paris pass 45 min before they closed and they were so accommodating. We were still able to do the tour and receive our complimentary 2 bottles of wine. This is definitely a great use of your time in Paris, especially if you have the Paris Pass. I would strongly advise scheduling an appointment! I was unaware that they did this and was unable to have the full experience.
google avatar

Freddy N.

Yelp
We aren't big wine drinkers or very knowledgeable about wine so maybe we are easily impressed but this was a great experience. We almost overlooked this place but we are glad we didn't. Everything was impressive, the location, the wines, and our guide. This was one of the highlights of our trip as it was thoroughly enjoyable and one of those things you might not have on your must do list.
google avatar

Jessi T.

Yelp
My husband and I had a great time with this tour and wine tasting! With the Paris Pass this is included but I would have gladly paid given the knowledge, wine quality, and great customer service. Make sure to buy some wine to take or ship home! Make sure to head over to O Chateau for dinner afterwards (ask for any specials).
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Best place to learn about the making and history of French wine in the cellar that used to supply the Louvre. A must take your when I. paris
google avatar

Reza M.

Yelp
Our tour guide was great. A French Chris Martin. Get 3 tastings and lasts about an hour. Get a good feel for wine country in France. The cave is about three stories and there's a bar at the end of the tour. Can get a good bottle of garmay noir for 15 euro
google avatar

Nelle S.

Yelp
All the reviews are true - this place is a must-see! Just a short walk from the Louvre, we were greeted with knowledgable staff and an amazing self-guided app. The cellar space is so interesting to walk through and the wine tasting at the end is great quality. We absolutely loved the whole concept and experience. Bonus: if you redeem this via the Paris Pass you get a free bottle of wine!
google avatar

Victor R.

Yelp
Had the opportunity of going wine tasting for free (not really) as part of the Paris Pass that I bought online and it was a good experience. Although you do not get to try many wines, the staff does enlighten you with some of the history of wine and they teach you about various types of wines throughout the country. The girl serving us wine was really funny and nice and I met two Brazilian women there who I still keep in touch with after a year! :)
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Added this educational wine tasting to our tour. Well worth it and very informative about regions, components and more. Add it to your itinerary.
google avatar

Marcy B.

Yelp
So much fun making our own bottle of wine! Definitely a memorable part of our trip :)
google avatar

Marcus M.

Yelp
This was a very fun experience to go to especially since it was included the the paris pass. Very knowledgeable about the wines and very friendly with us. The place is also bigger than what you would think from looking on the outside.
google avatar

Darren C.

Yelp
The self guided tour was fun and interesting. Finished with tasting 3 wines. Totally worth going to and fully included with the Paris Pass. Their tasting wines were really good. We would have had more if we weren't there right at closing.
google avatar

Tina J.

Yelp
Great experience!!! Our wine guide Amaory was very knowledgeable, friendly and provided an excellent history of wine making in France. He also directed us to an excellent wine bar with over 40 different wines by the glass. Would definitely recommend this experience!!!!
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
This was one if my favorite things in Paris! Learned a lot and had opportunity to bring home fabulous wine!!!!
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
OMG, Kim was THE BEST! She was knowledgeable, informative, and made sure she got to everyone's questions. We felt like we had a wealth of knowledge squeezed into just a couple of hours. I'd recommend this wine tasting to ANY wine lover, just be sure to ask for Kim! You'll love her!!!!
google avatar

Stacey S.

Yelp
For a very unique wine tasting experience check this place out! They know everything about French wine and Champagnes. Rumor has it that the cellar of this place used to be connected by an underground tunnel to the Lourve when it was a palace. Needless to say the cellar in this place is amazing and they have it set up so you really learn a lot about the wines, vineyards, ingredients, and bottling techniques. Go here, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Best wine tasting experience ever. Would recommend to any Paris tourists looking for an authentic French wine experience with great staff and delicious wines!
google avatar

Melody F.

Yelp
This was an excellent experience learning about wine and tasting it as well!

Pam C.

Yelp
We were disappointed. We had heard so much and read the reviews. Made reservations in advance including 4 bottles of photo labeled wines. Lengthy check in. Application on phone didn't work. Frangrance room's snifters didn't smell. We didn't know what to do in the flavor room. Went into tasting room and were allowed to taste 3 different wines. Small samples. We each bought a glass of wine, that was also small. Did a photo to label our wines (did not get any free wine). When we tasted our wine at our apartment, it doesn't seem like the same wine we tested. It was just much lower key than we expected.

Jamie P.

Yelp
I did the wine making workshop there and the staff was lovely. The building was really interesting and our sommelier was nice and full of interesting tidbits. However, I don't think it was worth it for the price. It probably would have been better just to go for a wine tasting rather than try to make my own at the workshop. I would have learned just as much. You should visit, especially if you are visiting Paris and don't have time to go to a vineyard for a tasting elsewhere in France. But don't bother with the wine making.

Paige D.

Yelp
My sister and I just finished our first trip to Paris and the experience we had here was unforgettable! Whether you know nothing about wine or are a wine connoisseur you will have a great time and learn a lot! The staff was helpful and friendly and we even got to take home a personalized bottle of wine! Highly suggest this unique experience during your visit to Paris!
