Imagine if you could buy a Van Gough from Van Gough or buy Google at its IPO price in 2004, well that is what it is like eating at this restaurant. Having just earned its first Michelin Star in 2015, the restaurant is clearly not resting on its laurels. In all aspects, this restaurant impresses, and in many respects, exceeds expectations in remarkable and unique ways. The decor is classy, intimate, but not intimidating. The tables are set aside, so you dine with privacy. It is actually known for it's glass ceiling, which was not applicable as we ate there in December at night.
The Sommelier immediately come to your table to suggest a drink, and forcefully but respectfully make suggestions; the restaurant specializes in Burgundy, so the wines are focused around this expertise. Before you even order, they bring scrumptious appetizers, a whipped chopped liver and beautiful raw fish. Crackers that can only be described as light, dense and rich.
Our family chose the price fixed menu (my wife and I had the wine flight as well), with a big twist. My daughter is a Vegan. We explained this plot twist with trepidation and fear, wondering if the Parisian food g-ds would expel us from a restaurant that had already exceed our expectations. Sure enough the chef immediately made his way over our table; we were in trouble now. The charming chef, young by any stretch of a Michelin star restaurant, inquired as to our daughter's needs. No meet? No fish? No butter? Really? Was going to be hard, he opined, in broken English, but he was up to the challenge. And was he.
The 6 course meal, which came at a leisurely, but continuous pace had to many hight-lights to express in this review. The veal was the best I had ever tasted. Chewy in a unique way, and perfectly cooked. Oyster Carpaccio, wow, what a unique and special dish. And my daughters Vegan meal, OMG (talking in her 15 year old dialect). Hazelnut foam over beets. Might have been the best thing served. I will post pics of the food to further tease your tastes. Suffice it to say, I have never eaten so many dishes so innovative yet without any misses.
The meal, which lasted a little over 3 hours, flew by. By the time we were served our 3 desert course (this is Paris after all), I was a little nervous over the contents of the imminent bill. When it was provided to me, with the subtlety only a French waiter can do, I opened it up to scary music playing, to be surprised at the modest nature of the number facing me. Now, let's be clear, that this is not an inexpensive restaurant, but when you compare it to comparable restaurants, the meal was a steal. The 4 euro designation might be deserved, but this is on the very inexpensive end of that.
In sum, thank you for the experience Les Climats. G-d willing, we will be back.
