This place had just opened and was so creepily empty when we arrived starving on a cold January night that the maitre d' jokingly asked if we were lost.
I was hoping for a homey bistro and that wasn't what this was. Until some other people came in to dine, the restaurant was silent, austere and tomb-like. I asked if they could put on music because it was SO quiet, and they said the only music would be if I sang. Since nobody wants to hear me sing, ever, I decided to clank my wineglass around a lot and attempt polite conversation with the hubs.
Despite all this, we had a really phenomenal meal, because the food was SO good. We opted for the five-course chef's tasting menu, since we're terrible at decision-making and figure a French chef probably has a better idea of what we should be eating than we do.
Highlights of our meal included a delicate poached white fish with interesting citrus notes (or, as I called it, "fancy whitefish salad"), a very good cut of beef in a rich, fruity sauce, and a wonderful palate cleanser of lemon ginger sorbet. The highlight was one of the most amazing foie gras I've ever tasted - it was smoked, so it had a wonderful rich smoky flavor unlike anything else I tasted on our trip (and I ate ALL the foie gras in Paris. All of it. If you go and there's none left, it's because I was there).
Dessert was a deconstructed Tiramisu, which was both unusual and delicious. I had to fight myself not to lick the plate.
This is definitely not the homey French bistro I was imagining, but if you want well-prepared, creative cuisine at a reasonable price near the Eiffel Tower, you may want to give this a shot.
