Good place to hang out before or after a concert. Mains were well done, followed by a good range of desserts. Don’t forget to get the home made ginger drink.

We like coming here for lunch on saturdays with the kids. Food is quite good, not overly expensive. too bad they only have one option for the children, always the same. Service is in general fast and the large room is great

An unique experience of dining and exploring this place. I loved the raw and rusty architecture maintained both inside and outside. Adjacent to the railway line and the skateboard park downstairs give it a really look and feel of bar. Good food, great drinks and nice wines are on the menu. They have a great sense of organising Get-togethers and special arrangements. They have a secured parking on site of Friche de Mai. Walking distance from Marseille Saint Charles train station.

Keep in mind that I’m talking about the little coffee shop downstairs next to a library, not a restaurant upstairs. A nice, quiet place to work. Not a good coffee (neither americano, nor cappuccino). This is coming from a specialty lover, but the coffee is not the strong suit of this place even compared to an average coffee shop, not a specialty one. The most tender and delicious pains with chocolate though!

If you order the andouilette please be aware it is the strongest tasting andouilette you will ever eat in your life. The steak tartare also had tonnes of orange rind in it which felt misplaced and made the entire thing taste ONLY of orange? The kid who served us also just didn’t listen to our order and was staring into space the entire time, and repeated a totally random order back to us. The correct food arrived but on the bill it was put down as 2 steak tartares and 1 rosé which wasn’t even what was repeated back to us incorrectly the first time. 3 for atmosphere because our table was very sticky, and the tables around us remained so dirty and full of plates for such a long time that a pigeon started nesting in a pot. Honestly a bizarre experience.

A unique place to visit in Marseille, very quiet in a good way, the food is good and the staff is great. Prices are normal. Must go for an alternative day in the city.

Yelp
Have you ever seen a dish come out and it was so pretty you couldn't eat it, but it was so savory looking you just had to? Welcome to Les Grandes Tables! We walked here from our stay and once we meandered through the complex we found this mass of grand tables (thus the name) and courtyard. We were early, but we got drinks and they kindly served us bread and a olive pâté that was so clean and fresh. The service was kind and quick and, boy, did the tables fill up fast once the kitchen opened. Our meals were so fresh, clean and pure in flavor that I ate every piece of my dish as did my friends. I would easily come back here and bring my laptop to work. Perfect space for meeting friends, business partners or going alone.

Yelp
Now that this business has split the original business in two, I'm due an update. If you want the casual, bring-your-own-food or cheap and fast takeaway options I mentioned in my earlier review, you'll want to head next door to the bookstore cafe (http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-salle-des-machines-marseille-2). This big space is still good for the group sit down lunch, however! It serves a variety of hot and cold entree sized portions priced at about 10-15 euros each. Moreover, you can have a sit-down lunch with 10-15 people and pay individually, or all together. I can also report that in winter they seem willing to foot the extra heating bill to keep this space nice and toasty!

Yelp
A fantastic place-Huge open windows let the mistral wind through, cooling you down on hot summer days. The food was fantastic- from the home made black olive tapenade to the tournedos my husband had, and the best ice cream I have ever tasted. This urban arts centre in a former industrial building is visually impressive. The service was a little slow as the restaurant is huge and the poor waitresses were running around serving customers as fast as they could, but this just meant we had to slow down and appreciate the great place we were in.
