Les Loges Annecy has a lot going for it: fantastic location right in the heart of Annecy’s old town, charming accommodations, and thoughtful room amenities. That said, the first impression—or lack thereof—was a bit rocky.
We arrived about 30 minutes before check-in and were completely fine with waiting. The real issue was figuring out how to actually check in. There was little to no instruction on accessing our room, and the hotel isn’t marked clearly from the street. It turns out the property is managed by an Austrian couple who run the tiny café next door. Strangely, when we arrived (along with another family), they watched us fumble with confusion about where to go or who to talk to—while acting like they had no clue either. After several awkward minutes, the man next door (who we jokingly now call “the gatekeeper”) finally broke character and asked what we were doing. He helped the other family into the hotel and left us still outside wondering what was going on, speaking only in French. Another 15–20 minutes passed before he returned to help us too.
Once inside, things did improve significantly. He gave us a thorough walkthrough of the room’s features, including how to use the appliances, fireplace, and steam bath—which we appreciated. The room was stylish and well-appointed with a kitchenette, plush bed and pillows, bathrobes, and a fireplace. It overlooked the street, which gave it character but also meant noticeable street noise, especially since we couldn’t figure out how to use the AC and had to leave the window open. It finally quieted down around 1 AM.
One small letdown: our Expedia booking mentioned a complimentary bottle of spirits, but when I asked, the host claimed they don’t offer that and said it was an issue to take up with Expedia—not very helpful.
Despite the odd start, our stay was enjoyable overall. The hotel is beautiful, the location unbeatable, and the in-room amenities are impressive. If the check-in process were clearer and a bit more hospitable, this would easily be a 5-star experience.
