We went to Les Petits Plats de Marc for brunch one weekend, and enjoyed it so much we went the next weekend as well.
The first time we went, the service was great, the woman who served us was very friendly and welcoming, the brunch had an assortment of small sweet and savory items, and they had a chocolate tart to die for.
The second time we went was a much different experience. The owner was in the restaurant this time; he hadn't been there the time before. We had the same server that we had the first time, and she was just as nice this time. Apparently the owner of the restaurant didn't share our opinion of her, because he talked to her like she was his dog. He kept telling her, rather loudly, that she can't do anything right and continued to voice commands that I say to my dog when he isn't obeying. It was painful to listen to and the tension in the restaurant was high.
The server brought us our plates and as she set them on the table, her hands were shaking. She apologized for it. The owner belittled her in front of customers, and she was the one apologizing to us for her body reacting to his abuse of power.
It was disheartening to watch how nice the owner was to the customers and then how poorly he treated the woman working for him. I wanted to leave a tip for her, but given his behavior, I was afraid he would keep it for himself.
In the end, it doesn't matter how delicious the chocolate tart had been--I will not be supporting this business again due to the way the owner treated the woman working for him. It's a shame, really, to see misogyny so present.
