L'Escala Hideaway, L'Escala, Catalonia, Spain - Explore & Book

"It was love at first sight for Anglo-French owner Trudi: one glimpse of this charming little townhouse and she knew it was meant to be. And who can blame her? The place exudes charm from the very entrance, where a butterfly bush tree elegantly sweeps above pastel-blue wooden doors. It looks like the set of a romantic arthouse film. Trudi’s not the only French resident who’s been lured by the beaches and bays of L’Escala. This Catalan fishing port 65km from the French border is a well-kept secret among Toulousians, she tells us. No wonder – it’s got it all: a picturesque old town, Greco-Roman ruins, pine tree-lined trails and beaches with turquoise waters – all without the crowds you’d expect. L'Escala Hideaway is centrally positioned to take advantage of it all, only 100m from the town beach. Inside its cinnamon-scented interiors there’s a distinct Ile-de-Rê vibe – think beachy-chic décor made up of rattan, wicker, swirly wood, soft linens and exotic shells, all in a seaside-inspired palette of neutrals, bright white and blues. It’s effortlessly cool across all three floors with the bedrooms below and an open-plan light-filled kitchen with breakfast bar and squashy sofas above. And just when you think it can’t possibly get any better, the al fresco dining terrace leads up onto a rooftop splash-pool surrounded by yucca plants, featuring views of the Bay of Roses and Caningó mountains beyond. Perfect for couples and friends to share together. Highs L’Escala itself: the pretty old town hums with cute cafes, trendy al fresco restaurants, boutique patisseries and a glittering bay; all a short stroll away Owner Trudi has perfected the hard-to-get-right beachy-chic vibe: it’s fresh, fun and stylish without even a hint of twee Supremely comfortable beds in all three bedrooms that make lie-ins a must The rooftop plunge pool with underwater lighting for night-time swims – plus mountain, sea and church-top views Access to the Costa Brava’s beautiful beaches Lows You’ll need a car to get here from Barcelona. Otherwise, it's a train to Girona, where you can catch a bus to L'Escala The kitchen features top-of-the-range Smeg appliances and hob, but no oven Steep staircases might be problematic for anyone with mobility issues Each room has an en-suite shower and sink, but two of the three rooms share a toilet No twin beds" - Clemmy Manzo

We stayed 2 weeks at a top level (first floor) apartment. The apartment was bigger than expected and modern. We were very pleased with the hotel and room in general. The garden is beautiful and the pools are refreshing. Also I like the location as it was quit and outside the busy center but still very doable to walk to the beach/center/carrefour. We made a stupid mistake and forgot to check out in time, the staff remained friendly and professional. Some issues were - Slow WIFI - Not enough parking spots in the street - Horrible shower (randomly ice cold/too hot + dirty/cheap shower head) - No shade on the terrace during the day - You have to be a bit lucky with your neighbours as there were some groups of French/African dudes who were loud at night at some point and the rooms are not that well insulated against noise. I wish they would only allow families/couples and no groups of guys. However these flaws did not bother us too much and we would visit this place again.

We booked a two-bedroom apartment for an overnight stay in December. Apartment was spacious and clean, fairly well equipped although with only a 2 ring hob you might quickly run out of cooking options. Although it was quite a cold night, the apartment felt warm as the staff had turned on the heating prior to our arrival. The apartment blocks are set in beautiful grounds with citrus trees and small dipping pools which I am sure are lovely in summer. It is in a residential rather than a tourist area, you will need a car to get to the beach, and there are no real views from the apartments. But there are supermarkets nearby and a few local restaurants. All in all we were pleased with our stay.

Enjoyed a two-day stay here, our second visit! Our apartment was large and well equipped and the staff were friendly and responsive ( our hot water failed but was mended within 15 minutes of notifying the reception). The location was great for us withy free parking on the adjacent road and the main resort within easy walking distance. The free WIFI is quite poor, however - very slow.

The appartment was very comfortable and luxurious. Everything was clean and decently. The Belgian lady from the reception was also very kind. The only points of improvement for the owner(s) are better wifi connection inside and the bathroom could get a little makeover. Otherwise very satisfied with our week at l’Escala Resort!i

Stayed for two nights at the end of walking the Cami de Ronda. The apartment was spacious but fairly basically equipped - fine for a short stay. |Although thd bedding and equipment had been cleaned, on arrival found the room smelled overwhelmingly of stale smoke so much so that the smell had barely faded 48 hours later. |Biggest issue for us arriving on foot was the location - at the furhest possible point from central L'Escala or the harbour area. Had the weather been better we may have had a more positive experience but the persistent rain meant that we couldn't use the outside areas (not the 'resort's' fault!)

We stayed at L’Escala Resort for 6 nights in mid September. We flew in to Girona late the night before and so did not arrive until the Sunday. Because of this, I contacted booking.com to see if we could check in an hour early at 15:00 instead of 16:00. I quickly received an email back to say this was okay. On arrival, we were around 20 minutes early and after are sarcastic comment from the women on reception, we checked in no problem. ||We were greeting by a big spacious apartment, however on opening the door were greeting by a smell of stale smoke in the apartment which had obviously been left by the previous booking. Not necessarily the hotels fault, however it should have been noticed and rectified by the cleaner before our arrival. ||We had a quick look round and it soon became apparent that a few basic items were missing, that we’d come to expect in self service apartments as we have stayed in a lot now in several different countries. I’ll list below for awareness if you are considering staying here: ||• There is no kettle. I assume this is so you have to buy the coffee machine pods that they sell at the front desk. You’d think a kettle was a basic item that has come with every other apartment I have stayed in. ||• There is no toaster. Again, a cheap and basic thing that you come to expect when staying in a self service apartment, doesn’t make much sense to not include this. ||• There is no oven. Not necessarily something that I expected but just for awareness. There is only a two ring and a hob for cooking. ||• There is no iron / ironing board. Again, not something that is a necessity but it’s cheap enough to buy these things and would have helped to have one. ||• There is no hair drier in the bathroom area or otherwise. Not an issue for me but a minor annoyance for those with long hair. ||• The towels were not changed at any point during our 6 night stay, not the end of the world as we dried these ourselves outside and had plenty to start with but can imagine running out if there is any more than two people staying. ||• The rooms are in blocks of three high and are all connected via a stair case. The one morning where the people staying upstairs had the TV on and loud music we could hear everything. Again, not much the hotel can do however I can imagine this being a bit of a nightmare if you get stuck with noisy neighbours. ||• Lastly, and I knew this because of other reviews before arriving, the apartments are a 15 to 20 minute walk away from the closest beach. This wasn’t an issue for us as we are both young and don’t mind walking. However this may be an issue if the weather isn’t great or you have any issues walking any distance. Again, not a bad thing but just for awareness. ||The stay we had also had good points which we were pleased with. ||The apartment we stayed in was a great size with a dining able and four chairs inside, and also the same on an outside patio just by the front door. We paid for a ‘private garden’ and this meant we had two sun loungers just outside our door however there wasn’t much space there and it was in a shaded area and so we didn’t spend much time there.||The double bed was huge and comfortable, with plenty of storage to unpack clothes and a tv in both the bedroom and living room.||The WiFi was okay for general growing of the Internet, the news or social media. It couldn’t really handle much more than that ie videos or streaming. ||The air conditioning was in both the main living area and the bedroom which was great and helped with getting a good nights sleep in 28oC plus heat. You can leave them on as well so have a nice temperature to come back to. ||The apartments have around seven fairly small pools, of which I have attached a picture. We really enjoyed these and spent a lot of time by the pool. They were quiet and as the apartments weren’t that busy we had a pool to ourselves every day. Plenty of sun loungers but can imagine it getting busy in peak times. ||Also, the accommodation is near to Aldi supermarket (around 3-5 min walk depending on your apartment). I went hear every morning and it was very cheap for fruit / veg and a great bakery.||Lastly, you can rent bikes from the hotel for €10 a day pp. We did this for one day to go along the coast a little. The bikes aren’t in the best condition but they did the job for an okay price.||Overall, we had a good week at L’Escala resort and the good outweighed the bad. Just a few points above that people need to be aware of and if you want a quiet stay in the sun with a pool, then I’m sure you will enjoy your stay. |
