Letaba Rest Camp

One of the best camps in the Kruger. We stayed in a family unit—ample space with everything you need. What made this trip exceptional was the staff. First: My sister left her phone at reception by mistake, and we got a call minutes later. The people at Letaba are attentive and genuinely friendly. Second: I left my watch at the camp and only realised when I got home. Housekeeping found it and arranged for it to be sent to Phalaborwa Postnet—a smooth process. Special thanks to Portia and Jerry for making this happen! There's plenty to see and do in and around the camp too. We went on a sunset drive—it rained a bit, but our guide got us back safely. Her intuition and kindness, especially with the kids, made all the difference.

Letaba still has that wonderful “Old Kruger” feeling — big shady trees, calm atmosphere, and bushbuck casually walking between the chalets. It’s one of the most relaxed camps in the park and genuinely charming. We stayed in a standard rondavel: simple, clean and functional, with good aircon (very welcome at 44°C!), a fridge and the usual outside kitchen. Bathroom was fine, water pressure okay, and housekeeping did an excellent job every day. The only downside was the Tindlovu restaurant, where we had a very bad experience. The shop, on the other hand, is fantastic — one of the best in Kruger with fresh produce, meat, snacks and souvenirs. The pool is great for cooling down, and the elephant museum is absolutely worth a visit. Several viewpoints along the fence offer lovely chances to watch elephants and birds by the river. Mobile reception is better than in most camps, enough for messages and the occasional photo upload. The overall vibe is peaceful, friendly and a nice mix of locals and international visitors. Classic Kruger charm, kind staff and a beautiful setting.

Loved the atmosphere and the location of our hut next to the river. We had our binoculars handy all the time and saw giraffes, elephants, waterbuck, impala, baboons, and lots of birds at the river. It really is exceptional. We ate at a restaurant a few times and it was great! The other nights we used the braai stand and cooked outside. I also used the pool which was nice and refreshing! We loved this camp!

The best camp experience we have had in the Kruger. The views are beautiful and the animals (bush buck and squirrels) in the camp was a treat. Birdlife was plentiful, got a lot of great sightings, especially of the Woodland kingfisher.

We spent two nights at Letaba beginning of October. What a stunning, relaxing camp! The view of the river from multiple benches and from the restaurant were stunning. We stayed in a 4 sleeper safari tent. It was clean and comfortable. The fence was next to our unit and we saw several hyena in the evenings. The pool is lovely, the communal kitchen and the ablutions are sufficient. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Can't wait to be back.

Great Camp. Can recommend. I stayed in a Tent. It was good and clean. I could sleep until the first people left for Safari. But i guess that is everywhere the same. They have a Fan abd a frdige, which is great. I would recomend to stay here two nights and than another Camp fuether south two nights. Do sunset Safari and early bush walks. Awesome :) Laundry can be washed, costs 30 ZAR,also dryer. Dryer ruined two undies and a top. One washing Mashine was broken (they have two). Shop is good for what you might need. The food is ok. They view on the river is breathtaking.

We stayed 2 nights in a river view cottage (BD2V) Accommodation was clean but very cramped- outside kitchen very small and you had to turn fridge in towards wall so monkeys didnt get into it. There were quite a few roaming around looking for an opportunity. The view from these was out to the Letaba river which was lovely to be able to watch animals come to drink. Camp had lots of trees and birds to keep you occupied. The restaurant had lovely views across river and the food was simple but good..

Nice camp with handy launderette, restaurant (no draft beer unfortunately!) and shop. Enjoyed the Elephant Hall and an afternoon walk in the bush with two armed rangers. The park is noticeably quieter this far north.
