Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park

We took the “Classic Tour” at 11 a.m. Our guide Huckleberry was a nice mix between informative, funny & smooth. He led the entire 2 hours tour with knowledge & dedication. We always felt in good hands & safe during the entire tour. The tour itself was quite impressive. Exploring those caves and learning about how they started to exist and developed was interesting and informative. I can recommend experiencing this part of Montana’s cave history.

We loved the main cavern tour. We hiked about 3/4 of a mile up the paved trail to the cavern opening. There were a lot of stairs but as active seniors, we could do it without difficulty. There are some tight places and a lot of crouching so as not to hit your head. The rooms were full of stalagmites and stalactites, rock shaped like ribbons of bacon, popcorn, and columns. It was incredible to see and photograph. We loved our experience. There is another tour that is more accessible for younger kids and mobility challenged people.

I had a really great experience with our guild Dean on the moderate tour. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor but very stern when we weren't to touch something. Now the view of the surrounding area from up top at the cave entrance was just amazing. Definitely recommend a must go see.

Wow! And wow! I know a lot of people did not discover this place yet but if you ever came across to Montana. You’ve got to visit this beautiful cave it is amazing and beyond amazing. The picture cannot even justify. I would say highly, highly recommended this tour you will love it.

We did the classic 2 hour/2 mile cavern tour. Be prepared to go up and down many stairs. First 3/4 of a mile is spent going uphill 300 ft. You have 15 to 20 minutes to get it done or they may send you back. No children are allowed on this tour. Also, no bags of any kind allowed, with the exception of a needed medical one. The staff were all friendly and Rachel, our tour guide, did a fine job. There is a gentler Paradise Tour that is for children and guests with limited mobility. It is shorter in time and distance.

Best $15 (Senior rate) spend on 2 hrs of entertainment. Got to be very flexible to go up and down step and at some points bend or crawl (tall people) but definitely worth it. Our guide LILI (4th generation tour guide) made it so much fun with her stories jokes and facts about the cave and MT in general. Will go back again

This park has fantastic views yet small enough to enjoy for an hour or two and be on your way. They had trails for the avid hiker too. The visitor center at the top has food and gifts.

The Classic Tour 2 hours is the best experience. The Guide was 4th generation with great stories and professional presentation. The path was well worn and drier now my last time here in the 80s. My knowledge of Geology was helpful in the identification of some of the outside parts of the limestone layer related to the last period of Glaciation and how it rose 3 million years ago over the newer Sedimentary Rock. Will take my Tours again as the Campground was lovely.

I had no idea what to expect when I was on a road trip and my travel partner had booked us a tour of the Lewis and Clark Caverns. I knew I was in for a hike, but that's about all I knew. I was absolutely blown away with this magnificent experience! We hiked about a mile up to the cavern entrance. It was a steady incline and almost all in the sun, so come prepared for that. Sunscreen and a water bottle would be wise. By the time you get to the top, you're pretty toasty warm-and then you can cool off in the cold, dark cave. The cave/cavern (what's the difference?) is truly remarkable. Nature can be awe inspiring and what you see inside this mountain is a perfect example of nature's masterpiece. Be respectful and don't touch anything you're not supposed to touch. This isn't a horribly physical excursion, although there's a good amount of stairs, narrow spaces and even one area where you slide down on your bum. People who have any mobility limitations might struggle with this one-although I did overhear that there's an alternate tour for folks who might need accommodations, so ask about that. This was likely my favorite part of the road trip-even more memorable than Yellowstone! (Sssshhhh, don't get me in trouble for saying that.)
