The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is both a wonderful rest stop and museum. The admission fee for the museum includes admission to Fort Mandan as well. The museum provides a good overview of the Lewis and Clark expedition and has a great exhibit on native American history in the area. The parking lot is large enough for RVs and travel trailers. There is a nice gift shop on site as well.

It was a great experience. When I walked in the worker guy greeted me. He gave me a lot of information and explained things to me before I started walking around the center. He was very knowledgeable. He also informed me of the next tour at Fort Mandan which was great as well and the lady there who was 17 (she said she was going to be a senior in high school this fall) and did the tour was very knowledgeable and nice. Great experience. Would highly recommend!

Very unique rest stop in North Dakota. Unfortunately, I did not have time to go through the museum, but after talking to one of the employees, it sounds like there is a lot to see not only from the Lewis and Clark expedition, but also about Native American agriculture and information about the nearby fort. Very nice gift shop and I was also able to send my postcards right from the gift shop. Absolutely gorgeous restrooms as well very clean and tidy. Nice place to stop and have a picnic on your way through.

Great rest stop on Hwy 83. Ample parking and clean restrooms open all day. Nice walking path to stretch your legs. They even slip in a little bit of local history about Lewis and Clark.

This was a great museum and center not only about Lewis and Clark but also about Native Americans of the area and other early explorers who came afterwards. An awesome collection of 1800's drawings and paintings as well. We spent a couple of hours here, then went to the Fort Mandan afterward for a short guided tour. Both are great.

Great rest area. Closed at the time I was there. Great spot overall and free electric charging for those of us without exhausts!

Easily accessible location just off Highway 83. I haven't spent much time in the museum portion, but have enjoyed what I have seen. Clean facility with nice spaces for private events. The rest area portion has had clean bathrooms when I've visited, men's, women's, and a separate, smaller, family restroom with toilet and sink inside. Staff have always been friendly, cute little curated gift shop that has a bit of everything and North Dakota postcards and some souvenirs.

Yelp
About halfway between Minot and Bismarck, this is a great stop to gather some history, stretch and relieve yourself. The parking lot is huge & people often pull in for a nap while driving. While the center closes at night, the restrooms remain open and there's a ton of tourists info available on stands.

Yelp
This along with, a little further down the road, the full scale reproduction of the fort were wonderful. The guide at the fort clearly knows her history and definitely enjoys talking to people about the expedition. This center is very clearly organized with different facets/time periods in separated rooms. Each room is loaded with information and in some cases has recordings and manipulatives.

Yelp
This is the best historical stop in all of North Dakota (I'd know, I am from North Dakota and I visit every ND Historic Site, check my Yelp). This is a state-of-the-art museum from motion sensors to start small video clips to all sorts of interactive/hands on learning experiences. No doubt, this is a great place to bring your children. I wish I would have come here earlier in my life (Bismarck schools need to send their students here). It is super clean and spacious. This is why I give it 5 stars, it is modern and interactive, but it is also culturally correct and historically accurate. This is all coming from me, an Indigenous person to this area. I came to this center immediately thinking that something was going to be wrong or culturally insensitive or incorrect, but guess what? I found nothing. Everything was really great. This gets my Indigenous seal of approval! The gift shop was awesome! Thanks for selling snacks and drinks! I love that you allow photography. Both outside and inside are fun to walk around! Well done, Lewis & Clark Interpretative Center! I will be back!

Yelp
Wow. So worth a stop to this place. Got a great tour from Daniel (on his first day) - with Ashley. Fantastic 45 minute tour of the reconstructed fort. Pick up the real blunderbust to see what it feels like. The artifacts are real and the history is fascinating. Thank you.

Yelp
Yes, in fact it IS the nerdy teacher in me that makes me go to and love these kinds of places. I liked the info about the context of Lewis and Clark before we visited the fort. And I am a sucker for the gift shops! Lewis and Clark were really cool dudes, if you are ever near by, check it out.

Yelp
It was very neat and interesting. The tour of Fort Mandan just down the road is also included in the admission price. That was very neat too and I loved being able to walk along the Missouri River.

Yelp
We really liked this place. It's not big, but the admission also gets you into The Fort Mandan some minutes away. We spent maybe an hour or so looking at different exhibits, and a gallery of paintings and sculptures at the very back. It has history of not just Lewis and Clark but also Maximilian and Bodmer. Also a little farther are the Knife River Indian villages.

Yelp
I recommend you visit this center before you travel on to Fort Mandan. It gives good background for what you will see then. Lewis and Clark were important in the history of the United States and have 3 Forts to mark their contributions. It is pretty cool to see one of them. Now I have two more to visit. If you are interested, read Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose and then come out here. You will enjoy it.
