Lewtrenchard Manor

We stayed here in late November 2025. The hotel is stunning and full of history and quirky character. We had a large room upstairs which had access to a terrace. Spacious bathroom with rolltop bath and separate shower and separate basins. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The dinner was excellent and started with canapes in the lounge with its open log fire and leather sofas. Breakfast in the library felt very classy and was also delicious with plenty of choice. Lovely gardens and walk around the old quarry lake. Have already booked to return with friends! Exceptional!

Lovely building, beautifully restored. The hotel has a unique charm and feels very homely. We stayed for the New Year’s Eve gala; the food was lovely and the venue was beautifully decorated for the festive season. There were a couple of minor communication glitches, such as seating arrangements and the live music that was advertised, but overall it was a lovely evening and stay, and we would happily visit again.

I visited Lewtrenchard the weekend before Christmas for both an afternoon tea on the Saturday and Sunday lunch. It was dark when we arrived, which meant the hotel was beautifully lit up. It felt very festive, with a wonderful tree and lots of foliage for decorations. The tea was excellent value (we took advantage of the vouchers). We took some of the cakes home as there were so many. The ballroom might not have been the coziest room for an afternoon tea, but it is a special place to me as it was where we got married, so I was happy to be there. To make it all the more festive, we joined Christmas carols which started at the church, then continued in the hotel courtyard. |Sunday lunch was lovely, and again we had a deal so it was great value. ||There are tweaks that could be made to improve, however my experience at Lewtrenchard contributed to a wonderful start to Christmas

We had a wonderful couple of nights at Lewtrenchard but there is definitely room for improvement for the price point. ||We had booked with our dog, this is something you pay extra for and advertised online is a dog pack in your room upon arrival. We didn’t receive this and we asked twice for it. We met another couple on the first night who also didn’t receive this. ||On our first night we did the tasting menu. Before entering the restaurant, you are asked to sit in the bar. When sat in the bar you are handed drinks menus to order yourself a drink, as a couple we ordered a bottle of wine which was brought over by the barman. Five minutes later, the same barman come over with a wine menu for the tasting menu. This is not something we were aware of, we wouldn’t have spent £50 on a bottle of wine if we were about to be served 5 glasses of wine. The tasting menu was okay, but our favourite course was the soup and im not sure that’s the best feedback. We weren’t shown a tasting menu, so with every course we asked what we were being served and the poor young lady had no idea what she was serving. ||Breakfast was really good but there was no plates for the continental breakfast which meant you had to take your bread plate into another room to get your continental which isn’t great and you feel like you’re doing the walk of shame as the continental is incredibly close to other diners.||There are a lot of reviews about the fires not being lit, that’s not something we experienced. They were always lit when we were staying between Christmas and NYE. ||We were in room 11 and it was absolutely GORGEOUS. An absolute highlight! ||Please don’t be put off staying. The service we received from Jessica was amazing and a highlight of our stay.

A truly wonderful place and an excellent dining experience. just a couple of days break but it was a lovely time despite the rain! The rooms were excellent and extremely comfortable and the staff went above and beyond to be helpful. Altogether an unforgettable time.

Overall package for weekend break celebrating my husband’s birthday. Good value for money using Black Friday deals. Staff were all excellent, bedrooms tastefully decorated and food good. All of the communal areas were comfortable for pre/post dinner drinks.

We booked in September for new years eve gala dinner with jazz band. Over £500 for the night, so a significant price point. During the dinner I asked where the band would be setting up. We were informed no jazz band would be playing. Lady on piano instead. We were never informed of this 'material change' to the event, not even when we checked in. I have repeatedly written and asked why this was not communicated, we have still not received any response from the manager||As with other reviews, the fires need constant attention or we end up asking for them to be lit or tended to. Breakfast was nice, but staff need lots of training and support. Tables are not cleared and it's a rather chilly downstairs.||The bedroom was lovely and the housekeeping staff were terrific.||We would not stay their again, due to the above and no communication since. Such a shame. Lovely old place.

Unique hotel full of history…gorgeous old Manor House. We are locals & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was truly amazing & they catered for gluten free very well. Staff were polite & friendly. It was snowy & icy when we stayed but the fires were lit & we just put on an extra layer when needed. A very special place & we will be back :-)

This is the epitome of Country house hotel. The staff cannot be more obliging and when there is a big function such as a wedding they bring in extra staff who are equally well trained. Their catchphrase seems to be That's not a problem and the food is exquisite. At a recent wedding the whole place was turned over to the families and guests with exclusivity meaning just that. Ok, so it can be expensive but quality and style come at a cost. The decor seems to have been gathered from stately homes, the gardens are well maintained and worth a visit just for themselves. The added joy is the complete lack of mobile coverage which complements the atmosphere. Even the children's meals were special and they loved the idea of four poster beds and hidden treasures to seek out. Glorious, but then again I had one of the best weekends of my life!

This has to be some of the best food that we have enjoyed recentlybut the overall stay was not so good as expected. Dining at Lewtrenchard Manor cannot be faulted -this has to be the best in Devon surely ???? We had a room that was cold when we arrived, an electric heater did finally top the temperature up to acceptable. Beautiful views from all the windows, and country house period furnishings, but no luxuries in this very high priced room. No fridge, no tea making facilities ( although complimentary tea in the room before breakfast) The Bathroom in dire need of refurbishment, a tiny bath that I could not lie down in, despite being under 5'5, and a general lack of attention to detail. The newest glossy magazine in the room was a year old, the rest being just free magazines from the likes of BMW. The main hall also had nothing new to read, and when asking reception about something to read I was told to go and look in the other reception rooms myself. this also did not turn up anything to read ! They new it was a birthday treat -but no mention ,and not even a welcome card !! The reception rooms all have open fires, but they have such big guards across them, no real heat escapes into the rooms, and of course takes away the atmospere !! We would possibly give it another try, but as it is all so pricey, ~I am not sure I would bother !!
